    Hey Simon. I am vew to your channel and so far love what I see. One (simple) thing I thought was being able to mark task items done which is something that I do not believe is supported with the new calendar. Notion is growing and this new app proves it. It's great! However, its the little things like being able to mark a task done that means the most to my productivity, but unfortunately I will have to wait for that functionality I suppose. • @jmwdba
    @jmwdba 4 месяца назад +8

    I can't replace Apple calendar or any other calendar outside of Google Calendar because as of now it only supports Google accounts. To really take on other calendar apps it needs to expand to other calendar types like Outlook. Otherwise, Fantastical is still the better option, though it comes with a cost.

    • @curiouslydesigned
      @curiouslydesigned 4 месяца назад +2

      You can do a true two-way sync between Google cal and Apple cal. I'm not talking about the "subscribe to calendar" in google. You have to go into account settings on your desktop and sync your google calendar with Apple. When you get into Apple, make the google calendar your default calender in Apple (do not use your default Apple calendar) and the sync is two-way and almost immediate. You might have to also go into your iPhone and set it up there as I didn't see it happening automatically. So now within a minute I can create an event in my Apple calendar and it will appear immediately in Google Calendar and FINALLY also in Notion. This happens the other way around as well. Notion to Apple via Google. It takes a little longer to go into Apple but that's because I have my calendar refresh set at 15 minutes. If you'd like you have set it to 1 minute but for my needs, that is overkill.

      @@curiouslydesigned How to sync google cal with apple? I can't find the option on desktop

    • @curiouslydesigned
      @curiouslydesigned 4 месяца назад

      @@myouniverse0613 I replied but my comment seems to have disappeared. So if this shows up twice I apologize.
      Open Apple Calendar on your desktop
      Got to the Calendar menu > Accounts...
      Choose Add Account
      Choose Google
      Click the button to open your browser to verify
      Sign into the Google acct you want to sync
      Check the options you want to sync. I only check calendar so don't know what the others will do.
      Click Done
      Go to Calendar menu > Settings
      Change the default calendar from your Apple default calendar to the Google default calendar. This isn't required to make the two-way sync work. If you don't change your default calendar, make certain you choose your Google calendar for anything you want to appear/sync with your Google calendar and Notion Calendar.
      Test it out. Create an event in Apple. It should appear in minutes on Google and Notion Calendar, and vice versa.

    • @curiouslydesigned
      @curiouslydesigned 4 месяца назад

      I should have pointed something out. If the two-way sync isn't fast enough for you going in the directions FROM Notion Calendar to Apple, you need to change your refresh rate. Go to the Calendar Menu and choose Settings. Choose the Accounts tab and take a look at the refresh rate for each calendar (Apple and google). You can set it as small as 1 minute but I didn't want to have that much activity going back and forth as I don't update my events that often. I have mine set to 15 minutes. So, when going from Notion Calendar or Google to Apple, it may take 15 minutes to see the sync if you choose a refresh rate of 15 minutes. But I find the direction from Apple to Google/Notion to be almost instant. Hope that helps.

    I have tried it and absolutely love it! I have been using Cron extensively since day one and love their willingness to iterate features.
    The two features that I think will take it over the top for me:
    1. Scheduling Link. Allow this to be a constant link such as Calendly. So people can book meetings etc. from there without the manual send of schedule availability.
    2. Changing the names of the calendars. I have different views for a single database. I'd like to display them under different names/colors on the Notion calendar.

      Yes I will: first: I need to work on it and find the best and easiest approach. But if you want to start: the simplest way is to create a new calendar view in the tasks database by the ‘do date’ property, filter for all but the done tasks and then click open in calendar. You can then time block tasks in Notion cal! Thanks and I’m getting on this over the next months ready for the 2024 life OS update :)

    It makes some sense that they'd have to pick which of multiple date fields you'd want to have on the calendar, but for now it's a little clunky, and I'm in a situation where the Notion DB Calendar supports multiple start/end date fields for Timeline views, which I take advantage of, and then the Notion Calendar App only supports one date field so all my DBs aren't displayed properly... I'm going to hold off for a bit before reconfiguring my DBs and hope they add that support.

    Somebody needs to do a how-to a video for basic users. For someone who just needs a calendar and a task manager that talk to each other. No databases and all that. The problem with Notion (well according to me) is that it always seems like a massive learning curve. Also it has so much going it seems wrong to use it for simple things. Which is correct I think for it’s regular users but drives idiots like me away 😅

    Also, I am not seeing on the calendar what I have on my task data base, Did I missed to set something?

    • @BetterCreating
      @BetterCreating  4 месяца назад

      You need to create a calendar view in your tasks database organised by do date - not ‘do date formula’ - and filter where task is not done. Then connect that view to the notion cal. Should work from there :)

    At first I was thrilled that there is finally a real calendar in Notion for Mac. Unfortunately not in Notion but separately. But still. But when I loaded it, the big disappointment: No synchronization with Apple Calender! This makes Notion Calender practically worthless for me.

      Hi there: those calendars on the left ‘Freelance’ and Simon’s Weekly Schedule’ are calendars linked from a Google Cal account… you just click the add calendar option and sign in. new events in the calendar are just added as you would with any calendar. :)

      Ah - I filtered the database calendar view that was feeding from Notion to Notion cal. First it was filtered to not show complete tasks, then I changed the filter to show complete tasks. Or I could simply change the status on that entry to in progress and it would show for example. Hope that helps!

    You said you couldn't drag items across weeks in Google Calendar for years, but......I have been able to very easily, lol.
    I love that Notion's calendar is more fully capable now, though. Very amazing to have it expanded.

    • @myouniverse0613
      @myouniverse0613 4 месяца назад

      How? I can't do it either.

    • @7Bloodfire
      @7Bloodfire 4 месяца назад

      @myouniverse0613 When using a computer screen and mouse, just click and hold the item like you would to drag it to other time slots, but drag it over to the end of the week and keep holding it there for a second or two. That hold/delay tells it you're moving it to the next week, and the whole week changes. You then either drop it right there, or move it to the proper day you want in that week.
      Same thing when using a phone or tablet, but you just press the item and hold it and then drag it to the end of the week or to the start of the week. Don't let it go, just keep holding it for a second or two, and the calendar will flip forward or backward depending on which side of the calendar you're holding it on.
      I've never had an issue moving items cuz of that trick.
      ❤️
      I hope that helps.

    8:58 i'm curious how you reached this takeaway..? in my mind, notion has basic confirmed they have no desire to allow their users to sync notion with gcal. instead, they're pushing you to use their notion-cal as your primary and assisting the switch by permitting only a one-way sync.

    • @BetterCreating
      @BetterCreating  4 месяца назад

      That’s not exactly my message here. I can log in to Notion cal with Google cal and use as expected as your primary (I did this with Cron for a longtime) and now can see things aligned with Notion databases: it is Notion databases that get a two way sync yes, and yes, Google cal can’t be imported into Notion - but I can easily change items between Google cal and a database in Notion cal, and we can set busy blocks and other time blocking to work across both: for me this is better since I get usual Google cal functions, but with a better interface and my tasks and projects aligned there :)

    I cant move my entries that are from my notion calenders. The google calender elements work like expected. Does anyone know why?
    Edit: You have to add a date property.

    • @BetterCreating
      @BetterCreating  3 месяца назад

      Double check your calendar is sorted in Notion by a date property: and maybe consider connecting direct from a calendar view in the original database not a linked view: that might be useful. :)
