Apologies for the potato quality!!! I’ve had some long travel days this week and my only opportunity to film was in this horrible floresant conference room at the Osaka airport 😂😩❤
I was so excited when I read "welcome to notion calendar" and then the moment later I found out it's a different app, my jaw was on the floor and I didn't even bother downloading it. Hope this is a step further to a proper integration! maybe they're gathering feedback on how to actually integrate something more than a regular calendar and something actually useful will come soon. Thanks for the video! Always love to hear your opinion
Thank you for an honest review, finally someone adding a bit of food for thought and balance to the hype some of those channels out there are generating, much appreciated
Finally a video talking about Notion Calendar and what can be improved. Although, about task management on Notion Calendar, when I tick off tasks on my Notion dashboard, it does disappear from the calendar.
I wish they had a way to check it off though, so you can see what you’ve done throughout the day. Don’t like my day disappearing being blank at the end since I use my time block calendars as a way to historically track my time! 😔
@@ved.shankar Not sure if they've changed this since uploading this video, but on the calendar view for each database, if you don't filter by the task being unchecked or hiding checked tasks, it still shows! *EDIT* Just realized you meant seeing tasks as being completed, which doesn't appear to be a thing yet. Whoops!
@@CaseyHardman cheers, yes exactly For clarity, on Notion Cal, you can see your to-dos and make them 'disappear' when completed on Notion (as long as your original database has a calendar view with these filtered views as I understand it) You can't get a strikethrough feature (like in Google Cal with tasks)
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve been trying to understand “notion calendar” and only found those promo videos you were talking about. Love the honesty ❤
Great video. I like the content and delivery style. I also agree with everything you raised here. A calendar app that doesn't reflect my daily plan for my team is not a calendar app that holds any value for me.
Interesting points I recently began using Notion a few weeks ago and I actually like it a lot for my content planning and personal planning. I rarely use Google calendar, so it doesn't bother me that there are problems connecting the two apps. But, I do understand why it would bother you and people who do like to use both apps.
I’m definitely surprised it can’t be embedded into my main Notion. And since I use Apple Calendar, it’s useless to me. Though I’ve been waffling whether I should switch to google calendar since there is so much integration with other app. But I’m trying to simplify, and ideally use native apps as much as possible. And my shared calendar with my partner is Apple, so…but anyway, thank you for the video! I was thinking that I must just need to dive deeper to see what’s so great about it, but my first impressions are accurate.
I also wanted to try it out, and I saw some of the features, but as a person who uses calendars only for time blocking, I didn't find any major differences between Notion Calendar, and google calendar (which is what I use now) so just stuck with google calendar. I used to use notion for only to-do lists, and then found todoist, found it better and switched over. Now I only use notion for tracking my study, so I avoid using notion calendar (for now at least)
I clicked away from it immediately when it took me to a different page and wanted to use google calendar. Vibes were off immediately. Thanks for your honest review!!
I thought I was overlooking something watching all the videos hyping up the calendar. Glad to know I wasn’t the only one who was disappointed. Until I can embed the calendar into my notion dashboard, it’s not worth the trouble.
These are very good points and Notion should defo listen! To me the main frustration is the notion links opening in the browser and not the app, and the lack of steady offline functionality for the calendar itself. For me who before his just synced my google calendar to apple’s calendar app it works a tad better because of the integration of pages as events (once scheduled), and that is why I’m using it, but I do expect improvements to come along-this can’t be it.
I downloaded and saw that it wasn’t really in Notion and was super annoyed and didn’t even look into the calendar app because I was so annoyed 😅 thanks for this helpful & informative video!
Thank you! I'm new to Notion and use a mac. Trying to integrate a calendar brought me too all the google stuff and links etc... ugh! Should I avoid the calendar and and use ical separately?
I actually do enjoy the ability to be able to add database entries, but other than that it doesn't feel much different from Cron, which I was already using. Also, what camera do you use to record when your at your desk filming your screen??
It seems Notion Calendar has a lot of friction in ones workflow...but yet still innovative such as scheduling links..something calendly has only that Notion Calendar is free. Have you heard about Artful Agenda as a Planner?
I've been using Fantastical on my iPhone, iPad and macbook for the better part of the last 12 or so years. Nothing can make me switch, especially since Notion doesn't even support iCloud calendar nor Exchange calendars etc...
someone not just 'loving' a new product/feature just for clickbait and hype. Thank you for the truth. Sticking with Gcal as my main source for now still!
It heats up my Macbook Pro M2 tremendously. I love how you can link it to my calendar views, but honestly, it's not much help if it would drain my battery super fast :(
Good review - I won't be using it either can't stand adding an item and it is shown in the far right of the screen. Which is not a great experience if you have a wide-screen monitor. Should pop open similar to Google Calendar.
Do you think Notion will acquire an infinite canvas app next and then turn it into a Notion Canvas app? Notion has yet to throw their hat into the infinite canvas/whiteboard ring.
I sync my Google calendar and iCalendar....so, hmm. One instance speaking of the aps infancy but then speaking negatively about no integration. 🤷🏻♂️ Just like with many other apps it's a buildup. I have no interest in notion other than being a long time user. But, "reviews" like this is more about views than anything else? 🤔
Very appropriate review of Notion Calendar. I wonder: why not title this video along the lines: "Notion Calendar: what's missing to become a viable product". I think that would be a catchier title for tech folks like myself (clear intent) and result in more views (I viewed this video by chance only). Maybe the messaging would also be more neutral that way and less frightening for Notion. Just a thought 🙂
I agree that RUclips is mind-numbingly flooded with gape-jawed influencers side eying their Notion calendar screen grabs, but these reviews that focus on what an app or product DOESN’T do instead of what it does are their annoyingly contrarian first cousin… e.g. this review presumes that most sane users would want the calendar app to be integrated in Notion (as opposed to being a separate app) or that everyone would want to integrate other calendars into both Notion and Notion calendar. There are so many reasons to have them as separate apps, but that’s beside the point. To be useful the highlighted alternative ought not be some fantasy implementation that you think would be perfect, but what most users are using as an alternative. Unless all you really want are clicks based on that snappy contrarian video title and exasperated OMG video thumbnail 😉😝 EDIT: I just got to the end of the video and lo and behold, you grabbed the phone and admitted everything that irked me about the first 6 min of the vid. Ok, props… but still…
I would actually argue that most Notion users want it to be integrated. Notion’s biggest selling point is that everything can be done in one app. But I can use a use case for people who want it separate. There are other apps (like Akiflow and Sunsama) that accomplish a lot of what I complain about here, and I think if Notion fixes some of these features they could have a really useful app on their hands!

Sincerely hoping it gets better over time 🥲
im only learning this now
Thank you for an honest review, finally someone adding a bit of food for thought and balance to the hype some of those channels out there are generating, much appreciated
I agree with you, there should be a lot less friction and they need to do more actual integration.
Finally a video talking about Notion Calendar and what can be improved.

definitely agree. I've been using another calendar view on my dashboard just to see what you described :')

I agree will all! I would add that a widget like the apple one that has calendar + ability to check apps would be really useful
I totally agree with you, thank you for sharing your ideas and your opinion. I personally will be using the standard notion app and google calendar

This video needs more attention; well-spoken.

If the email you use for your apple calendar is the same you want to use for google calendar, changes you make to one will update to the other.
Thank you for your honesty ❤
Excellent! Thanks for breaking all of that down.

If they come out with side by side tasks and calendar blocking I will definitely use it! But for now switching between two apps is rough 😩
I clicked away from it immediately when it took me to a different page and wanted to use google calendar. Vibes were off immediately. Thanks for your honest review!!

I swear they’re gaslighting us 😭
I thought this was gonna be a typical "contrarian for clicks" type of youtube video but you make some really great points here
I only use clickbait for good 🤭

I’m almost certain they’ll release more useful features in the future! Just patiently waiting for that time 😭
Thank you. This is the video I was looking for
I use my Google home and voice on my phone to set tasks. I will never use another calendar other than Gcal until those tasks show up elsewhere.
I downloaded and saw that it wasn’t really in Notion and was super annoyed and didn’t even look into the calendar app because I was so annoyed 😅 thanks for this helpful & informative video!
muy buen análisis! Notion calendar nos encanta ...pero le falta cocinarlo más ....quiero esa hamaca 😂
I have these exact sentiments. I loved cron before though so I will be using it despite this mess.
Also, I used Sunsama to plan my tasks for the day (pulls FROM notion databases TO google + outlook calendars) so it makes Cron a but more usable.
Thank you!
I'm new to Notion and use a mac. Trying to integrate a calendar brought me too all the google stuff and links etc... ugh!
Should I avoid the calendar and and use ical separately?
Thanks for sharing, what I really miss is iCloud integration. I’ll talk about too!
What's the thing with all those weird mirrorred camera recording parts in so many videos on YT?
I actually do enjoy the ability to be able to add database entries, but other than that it doesn't feel much different from Cron, which I was already using. Also, what camera do you use to record when your at your desk filming your screen??
For this vid I used my DJI pocket 3 🙂
Will Notion go from an all-in-one workspace to a Notion suite or ecosystem of apps? Is this where they are headed?
It seems Notion Calendar has a lot of friction in ones workflow...but yet still innovative such as scheduling links..something calendly has only that Notion Calendar is free. Have you heard about Artful Agenda as a Planner?
im using notion calander on windows but i feel bad they dont have on android device for now thats sad :(
Facts couldn’t agree more what’s the point of having it be a separate app
I've been using Fantastical on my iPhone, iPad and macbook for the better part of the last 12 or so years. Nothing can make me switch, especially since Notion doesn't even support iCloud calendar nor Exchange calendars etc...
You're right! That's all that I need to say.
It's just not what I expected😢 wish they came hard with the first impression!
Yeah I’ve been really disappointed with Notion Calendar it could have been SO much more 😢
someone not just 'loving' a new product/feature just for clickbait and hype. Thank you for the truth.
Sticking with Gcal as my main source for now still!
Totally agree with your points.
I think by now they fixed the embedded thing, because It just worked for me rn
It heats up my Macbook Pro M2 tremendously. I love how you can link it to my calendar views, but honestly, it's not much help if it would drain my battery super fast :(
Hey leider total unnütz! Wenn ich bei Notion was abspeichere wird nicht auf Google Kalender übertragen.
Good review - I won't be using it either can't stand adding an item and it is shown in the far right of the screen. Which is not a great experience if you have a wide-screen monitor. Should pop open similar to Google Calendar.
Huge fan of Akiflow. Won't be going anywhere. Thanks for the honest review.
I thought I was the one who wasn't intelligent enough to make embed the calendar with my google events appear in the Notion app. Now I see the issue
Do you think Notion will acquire an infinite canvas app next and then turn it into a Notion Canvas app? Notion has yet to throw their hat into the infinite canvas/whiteboard ring.
Glad I watched this before trying it. I'll pass on this.
Video start at 3:00
Thank you man.
I think this is why I lean more towards Amplenote
I'm glad someone is calling out this supposedly great app.
What did they even work on these past year ? 🤣
🥲🤭
hope notion see this

J God I clicked on this video. I’m staying away from from notion. I was about to use it
“Integrate google calendar events into notion”…. Exactly!
Why isn’t this a thing???
