There’s this fanfic “The Petals Scatter Now”, a retelling of Volume 2 with a stronger focus on Team RWBY, and there’s this moment where Ruby is pushing Weiss on a swing when they’re in Mountain Glenn. It’s a good moment, and went further in deepening Ruby and Weiss’s friendship more than the actual show did.

So I get using Neo to emphasize the potency of body language. It makes her character that much more fun to watch. But why did no one ever think to have her actually use sign language to communicate?

I actually REALLY enjoy the change from Blake running when she's afraid to Blake being worried about becoming too radical or too lost her emotions to see when she's crossed a line. It makes a lot more sense for her character and explains her feelings of needing atonement more than her balancing cowardice.

Well, this was good mainly for giving a bit more nuance in the characters while still keeping the main plot essentially the same. Good job. This can qualify for a RWBY: Sisterhood. Just like FMA: Brotherhood.

You made the right choice keeping Zwei in the story. He is a must in Volume 2.

17:50 I actually saw the volume 4 rewrite you did before this one and that is definitely not how things played out. You have to be careful of making inconsistencies as much as CRWBY.

14>The CCT being used as Penny’s “housing station” brings up a lot of interesting questions. Is the “housing station” closer to a “house” where she sleeps or a “station” where she just gets updates? If it’s closer to a house then does Ciel also sleep in the tower somewhere or does she sleep at Beacon? If she sleeps in the tower then Ironwood runs the risk of Ciel being highly suspicious of Penny. If Ciel sleeps at Beacon the suspicion is less of a problem but still weird enough to potentially spark curiosity in her. If it’s closer to a station there’s no suspicion and Penny can interact more easily with RWBY and Co. Despite the initial lopsided nature of the three options each one has an equal amount of story potential with no option really being superior. Either way I’d be funny if Penny got put on the Schnee themed floor and as a result looks at Weiss’s Huntsman outfit the same way a kid looks at their grandparent’s ugly carpet.
16>I forget, did you age them up to 18 (Ruby 16) or was that someone else? If it was then Yang saying all of them are still kids isn’t true.
17>I wonder if the hostage made it out, if he didn’t wake up in time to get on the train he would’ve ironically been the most likely one to survive.

I'm ganna have to disagree with you on the Wiess not caring about honor and fighting for self-reliance part. If that was her entire goal she would have gone the route of her sister Winter, but as much as she sees her as a role model their alignments are not identical (not to mention she isn't completely independent/unaffected from her father or his manipulations). She takes great pride in her grandfather's accomplishments and the meaning of the Schnee name even if she hates her father (which she sees as a usurper who married into the family). Also, wouldn't both Weiss and Blake give bland answers to Ooblek at first just like in the original (he is, after all, just a teacher) but give the more complex answers to each other when they're camping together?
Besides, Ooblek's questions are what's meant to prompt them to think about it more, give words to their own internal deliberations up till now, which in turn pains Ooblek as a more mature, observant and wise huntsman than the goofball he's originally projected as, justifying Ozpin's decision to keep him around as a teacher/guardian for the relic.

These were my exact thoughts about Weiss. Reclaiming honor for the Schnee legacy is her prime motivation for breaking away from her father’s influence in the first place. It still drives her to overcome him in later volumes. So while I respect his self-reliance angle, it just seems more like it would be better as an add-on to her characterization than as the new core of her traits.
And I agree about Blake giving a more bland answer because she’s basically in hiding. If she’s treating Beacon as a quasi-WITSEC situation then she’s going to play things close to the vest. Besides I think that she’d pick up on Oobleck’s perceptiveness and get a bit uncomfortable with his questioning.
However the “finding a new purpose” angle could still work as her more generic response in this case before telling Yang and Weiss a more specific answer like, “I always believed that the White Fang was the way forward for the Faunus but this path may have always been the way to go.” Or maybe she could say, “I used to think that serving the Faunus cause meant being part of the White Fang but stopping the White Fang’s madness is better for the Faunus’ future.” Well, I think something like that could work for the deeper follow-up answer when talking with her teammates after she gave the basic “new purpose” one to Oobleck.
And excellent observation about Oobleck. He knew how one simple and overall innocent question can be so thought-provoking for the 3 oldest members of the team. At this point, Ruby’s the only one who’s life goal is clearest (maybe because she’s so optimistic and still naive) compared to her teammates. So this shows that he’s giving them the nudge they need to become more self-aware and grow more mature.
