My best night flights are during winter with a good blanket of snow on the ground and a full moon. The light reflecting off the snow makes it look like daylight with a good night camera.
I have one quad with the polar starlight camera. I still think that works great and has color. I was able to get some pretty decent video of a firework show. Also the polar is decent in daylight also. I am really loving the o3 system. I am really hoping DJI or some company will be able to make a camera work in low light with the o3 system.
@@SkyweaverFPV I understand what you mean for sure, but I asking with alot off pilots are not to worried about latency because we are just cruising around and doing some mild freestyle. Yes the light blows everything out of wack during the day, but it does let me fly when it is pretty dark out with color. I guess it was comes down to what type flying you mostly do and when.
@pianomans1 it absolutely comes down to what type of flying you do. With the type of flying I do , the polar would literally make me crash. That's how big of a difference that 60 frames is. I keep wanting someone to push a night cam @ 120 as far as it can go. We don't need any more 60fps night cams. The polar set the bar high.
To my knowledge, this is the only digital FPV camera on the market that will work with an infrared illuminator for seeing in complete darkness. That’s where it shines, otherwise there are better options available. Personally I’m buying one.
All of my analog equipment is collecting dust in a drawer last 3 years. I tried to donate it locally, but no luck. Everyone I know moved to digital because of the image quality overall.
not sure I would invest in one, but it is intriguing to be able to fly in near total darkness. I would think that a small cinewhoop is the perfect platform over a 6 or 7inch LR. I could see using something like this if I lived in a rural area and wanted to recon my property.
Foxeer makes a mipi camera that works with everything but the o3. It is very close to the Polar starlight for look but not quite as good. It is the Apollo Starlight and is an excellent replacement camera for under 60 usd. I tested it along side some other DJI cameras on my channel.
This cam is a hard sell unless you strictly need a night vision camera and are operating in very dark conditions. I'm a really big fan of the Polar camera for flying at night and the biggest advantage to the Polar is it looks wonderful in bright conditions too. Latency is "HD Mode" only but I genuinely don't really notice unless I'm swapping between a Polar and a Nebula Pro. The Polar SUPER underrated IMO.
I bought a used 5” for me to throw one of these on. Imagine some city night flying. I know GoPro isn’t the best for night, but it will do. I wanted a 5” to try night freestyle as well as fly among fireworks and have half a chance remaining in the air. My 03 units are HORRIBLE anytime near dark.
as an o3 pilot ive been dissapointed with the o3 night quality and with the time change and getting dark so early i can now fly my night time drone after sunset
I love it!! Now with the action 4 and its low light abilities maybe i can get some decent sunset/ sunrise/ blue hour shots. It's not miraculous or anything but it's better than any other action cam I've had. I've found that since it's dark so early, and me trying to get footage around sunset or sunrise, i stop flying before its actually dark because the O3 is not great and i can't see. Think I'll try it out cuzz the only time I'm willing to fly downtown, is at like ass crack Sunday morning when nobody's awake lol!
10:08 the application for this here in America, atleast down in the south, would perhaps be to utilize this camera as a tool to hunt evasive wild hogs. That would be the use for it and with a high throw IV flashlight mounted to the quad!
If I had digital fpv I'd want it. I think its for those who want to fly after work, but in the fall and winter the sun is going down by the time you're home.
The (runcam) camera is black and white because the lens has no IR-cut and if it would be color, everything, especially in daylight would be overlayed with that typical pinkish IR-glow of full-spectrum digital cameras. Runcam HAD to make it black and white because no one would by a camera producing (especially) pink vegetation. The Wakesnail HDpro instead HAS an IR-cut (still) in place. Thats why it produces natural colors. Take the IR-cut of the HDpro off the back of the lens and depending on the 'IR-weather' in the scene where you are using the cam, you will gain about one additional f-stop of light energy. Without the IR-cut, the HDpro should be clearly better than the runcam.
In the winter in northern Canada it’s dark when I go to work and dark when I get home. This opens up a lot more flying opportunities.
😎👍

It's only 60 fps. People don't like it because it has higher latency. I can't stand it, especially during the day.

Great review Ian! I might pick one of these up for flying at night over moon lite snow! Cheers
Awesome flying and review, Ian! 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

You said this camera is IR sensitive and will work better with IR light?
Hi Mr Mad certainly spotted you out no problem thanks for excellent info always
I'm struggling to see why I would use this instead of an analog night camera/VTX.
All of my analog equipment is collecting dust in a drawer last 3 years. I tried to donate it locally, but no luck. Everyone I know moved to digital because of the image quality overall.
@@michalp.4975 I agree, but my point is that the image quality of this is worse than analogue night cameras. The aliasing looks awful.
Blairwitch 2023?
How do you compare this camera to the Avatar hd pro camera from Caddx?
Bleeding edge reviews! I have one for myself I am eager to try it out and figure out some use for it
can you use with the fpv remote controller 2 and goggles v2 if 03 firmware installed?
Thank you. Is it compatible with the new DJI googles n3 ?
Sadly no

Same here - I am a Polar-lover :) Would like to see comparison of Night Eagle with Polar.
Thanks for the review Ian and helping me spend my money more wisely. Wanted to see how this compares to Walksnail V2 Pro Sony Starlight. Thanks 👊👍👍
People who wanna fly this also want something not very loud, so is there a naked version of this to mount it to a 3 inch quad?

would this work with HDZero?
Sorry no.

Would be fun to build a Night drone to have. now when it's dark for like 5 months here in Sweden. 😊
They told me you cant fit it to a dji drones ?
I just mounted one on my Mobula 8. This is going to be interesting if I can take off

They should come out passive IR camera

Looks very good. You should freestyle it, get some speed in. Better comparison to the walksnail dark camera😎 cheers

That mushiness reminds me of Walksnail. 😅
I would rather see a thermal option even if it's several hundreds of dollars.
Try several thousand silly
Interesting. A comparison with a normal fpv camera would've been nice.

This is for fans of tank and military hardware observation....
This doesn't seem great. Caddx Pro camera looks better than this for low light in my opinion. Maybe even the regular Polar camera from the Air Unit.
Wow thay looks almost analogue
B/W only makes no sense from a hardware and software pov there's just no reason for it.
like 108
The only suitable application of this cam is for spying or war or paranormal activity.
I think Ukraine will welcome it.
I expect this will end up in Ukraine? That is all I will say about this
It's for the war in Ukraine
Nope, digital video for fpv is not a choice for modern warfare. Easy jamming+ no retranslation possible+ low output power+ ***** + some other things
