possibly because the 200m is the event that uses the lactic acid energy system the most, hence the muscles are filled with lactic acid at the end. In the 1500m, it is predominantly the aerobic system being used until the last 100 or 50m hence finke can push harder
Finke's last turn... you could see his kick just EXPLODE. I used to race the mile (at nowhere near this level, obviously) and even as a distance specialist, that last 200 is miserable. His patience to hold enough back to do that is insane, I would probably break earlier out of nerves
1 year later and Finke dropped 2.95 seconds from this time (14:36.70). If he keeps improving at that rate, he will challenge the world record by Paris 2024. Although I'm American, I'm actually rooting for Paltrinieri who's been within 2 seconds of the world record on 2 occasions now (won this year's worlds with a 14:32.80) to break that world record finally. Anyway, the 2024 Paris Olympics will be exciting.
I don’t know how many times I watched fink’s 800 & 1500 m races. I shall watch again and again next few years…my favorite USA swimming team. Loooooots of love ❤️ from Buffalo New York USA 🇺🇸
Look, what do I know, I've never even come close to making an Olympic team, let alone a final. But Paltrinieri seems to put way too much inefficient effort into his stroke, which makes his 2016 gold even more impressive to me
It sounds so weird to hear foreigners say America instead of the United States. It’s probably because I am used to hearing American commentators refer to us as the United States or the U.S. LET’S GO 🇺🇸
@@MuhammedAYDIN at 0:45 she said '30 laps' of the pool. A lap is there and back, so 30 laps would be 3000m. A length is the literal length of the pool, i.e. 50m. A 1500m swim could be called '15 laps', or '30 lengths' ... but not '30 laps' you see? cheers
@@johnmatelski6413 no you are wrong one lap is one length of the pool. it could be 25 meters or 50 meters or yards. 1 lap in an Olympic pool is 50 meters.
@@MuhammedAYDIN i looked into this more and you are correct. it seems to be a topic of heated and opinionated debate ... but you are correct nonetheless. cheers

Finke's final 50m split of 25.78 in the 1500m was faster than the final 50m of all the swimmers in the 200m at these games.
Faster than my 50m pb🤭
That's just unbelievable

Wow, this is the kind of post I like! Thanks for that info.
You're The MEISTER, lachlan!!!

"Finke strikes gold!" LOVE THAT LINE!!!!!🇺🇲❤🥇

Been waiting for a finke race. Love all these replays!
Most intense swimming that i ever watched🇵🇭
Wheres ya golden boy jessie boy here?
What an amazing race he had,... can't wait for the women especially Ledecky's performance 🔥
Finke le mete nitro en sus últimos 50 m, es increible de donde saca la fuerza y logra traspasarlos a todos ☺️👍🏻
The hero swimmer from USA. Finke is the best swimmer too in the world. Congratulation finke.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Fink is the comeback guy in swimmer
All race he was outside top 3 than last round he exploded
Thanks for the upload. One of the most exciting swim race. BTW you should have put the event name in the title for better reach.
they don't seem to care anymore (The Olympics is a financial Corporation not a quality structure )
I realize Finke trains for this 1500 race, but how does he have any energy to kick it in the end, amazing!
All Finke has to do is stay within 1 body length of the leader with 50 meters to go (in either the 800 m or the 1500 m) and he has it!!
Finally! Still waiting for every other race :/
It's so fcking annoying
Womens 100 back plz. One of the best and most competetive races of this games.
Wow what a race
Start 03:55
This race is impressing and spectacular!
JUST REALIZED YOU GUYS UPLOADED THIS TWICE LOL
Please please please can we have all the Tokyo swimming races Please!!!!
Esp mens 4x 200 free relay.
where did he find the energy to tear up the water in the last 25 meters ?
It's a mental thing, a mind set that the pain doesn't matter, just do it. He has a great grasp of that.
@@camillep6873 It's a physical thing. He was very comfortable with a bunch of energy for the sprint.

The German athlete is so handsome!!!
With 50 m to go, he turns into a dolphin. Amazing. 1.65 m/sec to 1.80 m/sec. "see ya!"
Does Wellbrock breathe to both sides when coming off the wall or does it jsut look like that?
Yeah he does, he also does it sporadically throughout the laps too to change breathing sides
Yeah, since the turn wastes a lot of oxygen so he breathes twice to regain what's lost

Yash, thank u

Paltrinieri is terminator
I hope to see Katie Ledecky at the 2024 summer Olympic Games in Paris France 🇫🇷 with other USA 🇺🇸 swimming 🏊♀️ members

only the Italian dude's using 2 beat kick
I can’t wait to see the Katie Ledecky and Katie grimes at the 2024 summer Olympic Games in Paris France
30 LENGTHS she meant to say. A lap is there and back. 100m x 15 =1500m
the pool is 50m not 100m

didn't break sunyang's record
I wish Finke would've removed that stupid mask at the medals ceremony.
How could a mask be stupid when it takes someone like yourself to take that honor.
AUSTRALIANS ARE BETTER SWIMMERS
@Robb Stark 🇺🇸 as well as many other stars!
In your dreams 🤣🤣🤣
Slow time compared to the previous couple of Olympics.
who cares , its the battle that counts
unbelievable last 50
