USB Safety Tester - Best Charger Doctor Ever!

  • I've done a lot of reviews recently that work with USB power, and people have been commenting on this little unit. What is it and where to get it? Well this is the best charger doctor ever made in my opinion. It uses a OLED screen, works from 3-30vdc, up to 5.1A, shows the voltages on the data lines, and has a memory function that will retain readings after losing power.

    I bought this because you said you liked it. I see why. This is a great little tool. I discovered some of my cables allow only a small charge current to flow while others allowed a large current. Thank you!

      Very good point about the cords (cables/leads). Most of these never tell you how many Amps they can handle and I guess the real cheap cords could be a problem.

    Great demo/revue. Bought one of these because it was recommended to buy with a solar panel charger I bought. But the little device came with no instructions. After watching this demo/review I'm really glad I bought it.

    With three testers, it would be nice to see them in series to learn how different the readings are.

    Drawback I'm having is that the OLED driver circuit makes a very audible whining sound. Apart from that, thanks to Stephen Turner's brief instructions below, I can change the language now.

    Funky the way the input plug works - I guess that's so that what ever way the port is oriented you can plug it in and always see the screen. Having the memory is useful to be able to drain a battery then check how much power it had.

    Mine came with a card with quick start instructions:
    Muker USB Tester - J7
    Quick Start
    1x short press - Change Display
    2x short press - Reset the capacity meter (mAh)
    3x short press - Reset the energy meter (Wh)
    4x short press - Reset Time (00:00:00)
    5x short press - Set timer
    6x short press - Change language (English/Chinese)
    1x long press - Reset all meters.
    Also, I've found that if you hold down the Key while plugging it in you get a setup menu but with only one key it is hard to guess how to set it up. It's a combination of short presses, long presses 2x short presses and waiting as far as I can tell.
    Does anyone have fuller instructions?

      wow thank you, now I can see in english languaje.

      Basically, that's the standard display and the way to reset the tester to default if you change any of the over/under voltage settings.
      (Late reply but owell)

      Thanks. I've been playing with setting the timer (5 quick button presses) and noticed that a quick double press on the button when the time flashes increases the timer and one quick press decreases the time for the timer.

  • @GeorgeGraves
    @GeorgeGraves 7 лет назад +4

    Is it auto-negotiating power on the data pins? Or just passing +d -d voltage info along to you from whatever charger you are using?

    • @madelectronengineering
      @madelectronengineering  7 лет назад +3

      +GeorgeGraves I believe it just passes through, negotiation is still handled between charger and device.

    Is there a way to connect that tester directly to the mobile ? Because the figures showing especially Charging Current in Ampere (?) might not be the real CC entering the mobile because of the ~1m cable as in my case was not a good one for some reason. Is there a way to 1. connect the tester directly to the charging port of the mobile ? or 2. move the tester as close as possible to charging port? That would filter out the cable as a factor in any case. . .

    Hey, I recently purchased a keweisi model:KWS-MX18 my question is on the calibration setting and I was hoping you could help. I’m confused in the settings...once I’m in calibration mode I’m able to increase or decrease the voltage ex. 5.5 - 11 v and I’m not sure why I need to do that.

    There is a bad clone available out there. The internal alarm on the clone is set for 20V. If you re-set it for the 30V the sales listing says it is capable of, then feed it 29V, the unit internally shorts. The real ones run $6+. The clones I've seen down to $4.xx USD. It might be great for under 20V use I don't know. I didn't get to use the clone for long.

    Hey,
    The first charger seems to be the standard one with output of 5V ~ 2A
    But still the tester was reading more than 5V.
    How could it exceed its output limit?

    • @pepzi_
      @pepzi_ 5 лет назад +1

      It is within the USB specification. A normal charger may output between 4.5 and 5.25 V (devices must be able to tolerate these voltages)

    These are not effective for the voltage coming from a portable solar panel. Trust me, I tried yesterday multiple times. However, it works great from a wallplug or your computer.

    très bonne vidéo mais moi je suis complètement perdu pour savoir comment testé une batterie externe, un câble usb ou un chargeur... :-( le chargeur si on le teste on ne sait que son voltage mais le câble ? pour la batterie externe, c'est pareil, je voudrais savoir si son câble est toujours ok et si sa capacité est réellement ce qu'elle affiche...
