  • This is a setup/install of the BERGs fuel system with a Honda EU2200 generator and a 6 gal fuel can. This is to extend the runtime of the generator without having to constantly check the fuel levels.

    Note that initially it looked as if the way this is set up you had an open port venting gasoline from the fuel tanks outlet when the hose is removed unless the male port also has a check valve inside it which is not specifically stated on the Amazon link. On edit I reviewed the Atwood connect in the Amazon link and it does have an automatic shutoff on both sides of the fitting so even though its plastic it may be a similar in design compared to the one that came with the kit which also appears to have a fuel shutoff on both halves of its gas cap connection.
    Of course this only works well if your generator has an actual fuel pump and not just a gravity feed system with an automatic fuel valve unless you raise the tank higher than the generator so it can siphon feed. Any leaks in the fuel cap seal or fuel lines of course will prevent the system from working properly.
    That said the safer solution is to put a tee in the fuel line inside the generator between the fuel shutoff and carburetor plus if there is no fuel pump add a vacuum operated pump and use a standard marine outboard motor fuel connect with its more secure automatic fuel shutoff and secondary strain relief post mounting through the casing of the generator. It would also be a very good idea to add a fuel filter and primer bulb to the fuel line.
    On the Teflon tape you do need to only use those rated for fuel systems and not just generic water system products that are not rated for use with gasoline, kerosene, diesel, etc.
    Best!

    Just completed the break-in period and so far the unit is operating perfectly ruclips.net/user/postUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y . I was amazed by just how quiet this little guy is. I kept having to walk down the driveway to the generator to make sure it was still running. In fact, the most annoying noise coming from the set-up is a high-pitched chirping coming from the pressure regulator on the propane line. I suppose it's possible my other propane-powered generator's pressure regulator is making the same noise, but the generator itself is so loud I've never noticed it. Build quality so far is excellent. My only nit is the service panel is a little tricky to remove. I feel like I might break off one of the plastic tabs when bending it back. I probably just need to work out the technique, so will not hold it against Champion.Next week I intend to fully load the unit to charge a large battery pack and will update this review if there's any problem (3000W continuous load vs a rated 3100W capacity while using propane). Absent any trouble there, I'm 100% pleased with this purchase.

    Unfortunately, I have to say that this doesn’t actually work, and I have yet to see 1 video that actually shows the siphoning of fuel occur. Take note of every video claiming this works: there will always be a setup shot (before), then a shot claiming that it worked (after). The amount of air drawn into the tank through the stock fuel cap is very very little. There is not enough suction created to draw fuel out of one tank and into the generator. Gravity feed, or added vacuum pump, however, will work.

    I have not bought a Berg system. But I have not had much luck with other gas cap style siphoning systems for my Honda 2000 I generator. I have had much better luck with the gas cap that I have bought for my 3000 I handy generator by Honda. But there is no fuel pump in the 3000 I handy and you have to have the extended run gas tank above the generator . The problem usually lies in the Seal of the gas cap where it meets the generator. First the seal that they give you for the gas cap is usually substandard. It usually does not hold up very well with gasoline. You're also relying on human error and that is always a problem. These systems seem to work a little better in extreme temperature or just very cold because everything constricts and seals become tighter, and you don't have as much of a problem with reactive gas and pressure buildup. I have bought a lot of plastic attwood connectors. They don't last very long. But they do not take very long to swap out and they are usually the problem if you have a air leak. If you really need a system that works I want you to talk to Paul at Panellas power products. He has helped me build a system with Yamaha parts that works pretty much foolproof. Bypassing the fuel tank in the generator is the way to go!

    Wouldn't keep that fuel line in a bag. It's best to let the gas that's on or in the lines to dry up. The reason is so you don't get any build up in the lines. Gas needs to bleed out.

    Are you sure that the red cap is suitable for your generator? You have to choke extremely to mount the cap on the thread of the generator and then remove it again. Is the thread on the tank still OK, or is there a new thread in it now?

    • @EdwardCzajka

      Thread is fine on my tank. The important part is the seal, without it, the suction will not occur to create the syphon.

    Why even take the B.E.R.G. caps off when you're stowing and transporting. The Honda will run perfectly fine in solo mode with the B.E.R.G. caps. By removing them you're simply putting more wear and tear on the threads for the generator and the gasket. Leave the caps in place. I've done it for 5 years on mine. Only time they come off is to clean the fuel filter or drain the gas.

    • @EdwardCzajka
      @EdwardCzajka  Год назад +1

      By that logic, everything we do can cause damage. We don't have stuff like this to not be used and always look pretty. Giving a generator a 5 min break after 2 hours of work is not going to do anything.
