The trailer light pulsing you are getting is an anti theft setting. When locked, the truck puts a minimal amperage out the 7-way to see if the trailer is still there. If someone were to attempt to steal the trailer and disconnect the 7-way, the vehicle alarm would activate.
I believe there is a setting in the main screen to turn it on or off.
LED lighting doesn’t require much output so it can cause flickering. Standard halogens don’t have the same issue.
I have trailers with both so I had to do some forum digging to figure this out.

Next time you get a CEL, just call onstar. They will email a copy of the diagnosis with codes for the records.
Also for the multipro tailgate, If you hold down the inner tailgate button for 4sec's, the computer will disable the button so that we can prevent dropping it onto the hitch, accidentally. Don't ask how I came to know...

I picked up my first Chevy I’ve been driving Ford F150’s the last 10 years. Software issues, oil leaks, 10 speed tranny issues. Nothing super serious but frustrating. Decided to go to a HD for the same reasons you did. I wasn’t loyal to Ford and a my dealer gave me 10 K off MSRP on a 2500 Z71 LTZ Duramax with standard bed. Had to replace the brake controller as it would disconnect the brakes on my Rv. There’s a bulletin for that. I’ve experienced the same tail light issue on the trailer you mentioned with the lights and engine off, and I still get warnings about checking the turn signals if I idle in park duty a minute or two. The problem goes away after running the turn signals twice when the trailer is connected. Love the Duramax so far. It’s my first diesel. All in all, so far, so good for me too. I’ll say 95% satisfied.

The pulsing of the lights is to let you know that the alarm feature is active. If someone was to unplug your trailer and try to steal it, the truck alarm would go off.

Good update! Really appreciated your Flint, MI plant tour episode. My 2024 2500HD w/max tow w/12K miles now had the same early life phantom no-start w/emissions system error issue (removing the main battery’s comnections cleared it and hasnt repeated since). GM is clearing a few more bugs on this significant new electronics year as well... Mine’s had more 2 bulletin services for a tranny reprogramming (fixed a hard and erratic shift point near 50mph) and an intermittent trailer brake error (replaced a part in the rear trailer harness). Also had a bad Goodyear AllTrail tire (bead failure) so get the Michelins is my advice there! Also found a known issue w/my rear trailer’s bluetooth camera that pulsed on/off (fixed with a Furrion adapter for $45 that makes that pin in the trailer 7-pin constant 12v hot as GM decided to pulse the 12v current there for some reason). The tire issue stunk, but otherwise love the Duramax truck’s towing performance and interior comfort besides. Hope this helps folks.

I very much look forward to your follow up video. I am in the process of installing the GM camera to the rear of my 5th wheel. The install on the trailer is not difficult however the camera plug on the truck is the problem. The camera plug is located above the 7 pin plug on the bumper of the truck. The camera plug connection has to be relocated into the bed of the truck.
My truck does the same light flickering when my 5th wheel is connected. Like you, I disconnect the trailer when parking overnight. I was told by the Dealership, the light flickering you are experiencing is the truck making sure your trailer is still connected. I do not have the lights flickering on my trailer with incandescent trailer lights. The flickering only happens on the trailers with LED lights. Excited to see your follow-up video. Hopefully you will get some answers.

I have the 2500 standard bed and I’m towing a 33’ Reflection. Like you said, it’s stress free towing! I learned the last time at the dealer that the invisible trailer camera changed and the $600 camera that people bought for their trucks 3 years ago won’t work on this one! I’m probably going to go with a Bluetooth one unless you end up convincing me otherwise…The camera system as it stands is incredible!

  • @jamesglavich1426

I have a 22 High Country SRW 3500 Long Bed. If you look at the hitch for Fifth Wheel/Goose neck on the long bed, it is centered over the rear axle, but on a short bed, which is only 10 inches shorter than the Long bed, the same hitch and or Puck system is about 4 inches behind the axle. There is a cross member in the way, so even an after market install would be difficult to center on the axle. My guess is they did this to prevent damage to the rear window/cab area while towing. The B & W Hitch for the Multi-Function tailgate really does the job. Although I would think GM should have come up with a solution for the issue by now, but my guess is if they did, there might be retro fixes involved that they don't want to deal with. As far as parking goes, the camera system is very helpful, I have found the easiest way to access the parking camera is to stop while entering the spot and momentarily shift to Reverse, then pull forward. Our Escalade has a touch screen button you can turn the parking camera on with.

  • @carvdecarv

I enjoyed your comments. I had an intermittent light on my 2020 1500 AT4. Long story made short after several visits to the dealer that's 30 minutes away. They replaced the correct sensor in my transmission. It was a little disconcerting for the transmission to drop into L5 at highway speed and stay in L5 for maybe a day. No shifting in drive at all.

I have the same issue with my 2024 Silverado 3500 LWB. When the trailer is connected to the truck, the LED lights on the trailer flickers as you mentioned. I just called the dealership as soon as I saw this video. The dealership says, its normal. All its saying that the truck is connected to the trailer. The draw is so little that it will not run the battery down. As a precaution, I unhook the trailer plug when parked overnight.

On the pulsing brake light issue, I believe the parking brake sets electronically any time a trailer is attached. That might be why the brake lights pulse as it applies just enough current to keep it set. Just a guess, but I imagine that a trailer would have to be connected for a very long time to be a an issue especially with 2 batteries.

I have the same color 3500 LB, CC, SRW but a GMC SLT gasser. I've done the aux battery and trailer brake recalls/advisories. My manual says to change oil at 500 miles if you plan to heavy tow, so I did that. All 9 grease fittings were dry, and the rear differential was a quart low. I get around 8.5mpg around town empty. It's, according to the GM engineer for my truck, the security system for the trailer. When the truck is locked, the trailer unplugged, the alarm will go off to alert the owner. Also B&w have a hitch designed for the GM tailgates. Well worth it to be able to use the full tailgate function.

Really appreciate your straight shooting reviews and info from personal experiences Truck King! As such, I just purchased a 24 High Country 2500. Got a good price a couple weeks ago. The truck is very good for all the reasons you talk about, but I have one major problem. The seats are completely terrible! Overly firm like a bench at a ball game. A 15-20 minute test ride, twice, didn’t reveal this discomfort. But a few hours driving after the purchase did. I would expect a lot more from a rig at this price.
Have you, or anyone here, experienced this? If so what did you do? I’m about ready to ghost ride it into the ocean, but it seems like a waste of an otherwise good truck. Dealer of course won’t do anything. Any insight is welcome. Thanks

My 2022 3500 diesel at4 was good, awesome fuel mileage, really nice ride, 4x4ing was good, front was coming loose at 35,000kms but it was doing some rough bush work, on shitty roads everyday, dealership would not warranty the front end....that sucked, switched to RAM for the first time ever, nice truck, everything is good so far, really smooth offroad. It's a gas V8 and if you want good fuel economy you have to stay around 100km/h.

How ever I'm having a issue with the transmission not shifting up in manual coming down a hill. Love to see if you find out what you hear about the lights. I think it's a grand design issue. This doesn't happen with other trailers that I have that have LEDs.

I have a ‘24 LTZ similar to Yours. Mine has a standard box, and Yes it might be a little better to park, but not much. I use the forward camera to see the parking stall stripes, as the height of the hood , visually makes it harder to get centered in the parking space. I have also used a fuel additive, (Hotshot’s Secret), and at times I have used more than a minimum dose, with no warning lights coming on. The 3500 is more truck than I need almost all of the time, but have had 4500 lbs in it, and quite frankly it handled it with ease. I really appreciated the 470 HP of the Duramax, when hauling that load up some pretty steep grades. I do plan on towing a pretty small camper trailer on some pretty extended trips, and I know that this truck will handle it easily. My truck does have parts ordered for a recall for some component of the trailer brake. It has not affected My driving the vehicle at all, and I have not noticed any defects to turn in under warranty. Build quality, pretty much has been excellent in My experience. Maybe not the best in-town daily driver, but really shines at long distance driving out on the Freeway. In MY case I would have loved to make a half-ton truck work, but knew I would haul heavier things once in a while that warranted a bigger truck. Just My 2 cents, for those that are interested in buying such a vehicle.

Water in fuel message is actually water in fuel filter. There is a water trap at the bottom of the filter, it has a drain. Until you drain it the message will stay on.
I am guessing you haven't changed the fuel filter yet or drained the drain valve.
Water is heavier than fuel so it sits at the bottom and the fuel passes thru the top.

Yeah that's definitely a level sensor that is tripped, not a code.

I had to get a resistor plug that goes on the trailer plug then plugs into the truck. My 2022 chevy 2500 diesel plugged into my trailers the lights would act funny. I guess there’s not enough draw from having all led lights so the truck doesn’t always recognize the trailer lights. Seemed to work fine with the resistor cable plugged in.

I dropped his fuel tank and flushed his fuel lines, replaced his fuel filter and all is good for the last 8k miles. His water in fuel light has been on lately though and we are going to replace the fuel filter housing that has the sensor in it. Only 53.00 from rock auto, must be a very high quality part! Logic would say when the fuel filter is telling you there is water in your fuel filter ... drain it or in fact change the filter and examine it and the contents of the filter canister. So his response to assume it can't be water in the fuel, I find somewhat perplexing quite honestly. Having a fuel tank partly full and in a humid environment with daily temperature swings causes both gasoline and diesel to absorb water due to the breathing of a tank ( unless its 100 percent sealed ) . And who knows what state the fuel storage tank is in at the fuel station or if they are keeping up with changing the filters on their pumps.

I have a ‘22 3500 dually bought with 25 miles on it and have been running hot shots secret fuel additive since day one no issues. Have 173,500 miles now and at 25,000 started running ams oil. Only thing that was not scheduled was at around 100k the idler pulley locked up and took out my belt, fan clutch and fan clutch harness. Luckily didn’t mess up the radiator. I did replace nox sensor one and two at 80k. Had a check engine for nox one and went ahead and replaced nox two. When I used it commercially I would clean the MAP sensor once a week and/or after towing up mountains.
The 10 speed transmission is awesome when towing. Made towing 35k loads feel like nothing and the engine brake made it easy going down steep grades. It has three stages of engine brake that each stage is set on how long you push the brake pedal. Not pressed hard to engage the brakes but just so the taillights to come on. I rarely ever had to use the third stage. Also added airbags and made a world of difference.
