Massive help, thank you. Complete newbie to drones and purchased a second hand one yesterday. Set it up, flew it today, pressed RTH and panicked when it flew up, not realising that's what it's supposed to do 🤦🏻♀️
Great video, believe it or not I bought the Phantom 3 std in 2016 and am first unboxing it now, don't ask why! do i have to update firmware on controller or drone first? Thanks!
Wow, brand new controller, controller and drone on to do firmware about, if you check out my other YT channel 'Expat in Mazarron', Playlist, I've a whole series on the P3S and updating - good luck :)
I'll be using my old Phantom 3 Standard for an aerial video of a wedding tomorrow and one of my concerns is the RTH feature which I haven't used yet. Add that to the fact that I almost lost the same drone when one of its propellers broke off while I'm landing it. Good thing DJI repaired it free of charge after I sent them the nav data that shows the drone is about to land when it happened. Anyway, a brilliant explanation. I enjoyed the whole 16 minutes of it.
@@shaunthedrone Oh it did. Before, I struggled to see where the direction its coming from, whether it was too high or too far away. The RTH worked like a charm and I was able to do shots the bride wanted. Unfortunately, in the last scene, the drone's propeller hit a tree when a strong wind blew it too close and the drone fell down to the water (it was a lake wedding). We managed to get a diver to retrieve it but the drone is dead. Fortunately, we were able to retrieve the memory card so all is not lost. I just felt bad losing my drone.
@@fabarangan glad you got some great shots for the wedding but sorry to hear about your drone. If the lake is fresh water and not salt, you might be able to save it. I had my Phantom Visio Plus and landed in water, somebody fished it out. Battery was dead, left my drone out in the sun for a week and it still flies today. I do live in Spain and the hot weather helped but I've heard of people putting their drone in a box and filling it with rice to soak up the moisture for about a week, it may help :)
Secondly I live in a suburban community, houses about 50 feet apart, no power lines, flat terrain. I just want to make a test of straight vertical up and looking down to me, no travel, just vertical up 50 feet, can this be accomplished? Thanks !
Shouldn't be a problem Jeff, if you keep it in 'Beginners mode' you have a 100ft box. The only problem you may have is not enough satellites, if so, just move location. Worth having the free app 'UAV Forecast' to let you know about flying conditions in your area.
thanks for the video, I would like to inquire How many satellites does the Phantom Standard usually have? I usually get 6. Then it comes out in GPS mode. The follower function is not performed because the GPS signal is weak. Is there a problem with my standard?
Hi, many thanks for your question, this is normal for the drone and true below 6, jumps out of GPS. The only thing you can do, is move location and you will find places that will give you better satellites. It's a pain and there is nothing you can do really, some people put silver foil inside the drone but to me don't make it any better.
15:38 Thank you, Sir. Wonderful video. You are an expert in DJI Phantom 3 Standard! However, I got a problem with my P3S which none could help me to resolve: the aircraft is fully functional BUT all camera related buttons vanished from the display. Thus I cannot take any photos or shoot a video. Another problem - “gimbal status - gimbal disconnected”! Cannot fix it. Though the gimbal and camera are working well delivering a good quality picture. Please help!!! Gregory California
Hi Gregory, never came across gimbal disconnected. I expect you have removed the app and downloaded again? It's an old drone now and the gimbal problem sounds like why you're not getting none of the camera settings. I use another app, when the DJI apps play up and it's the Litchi app, you have to pay for it (maybe a friend has one?) and I use it as back up. It may work. There's a on line sight called Phantom Pilots, might be worth asking them. I think DJI Support, don't help anymore with their Phantoms but might be worth asking. I wish you luck Gregory.
Not really where I fly. Depends where you're flying your drone, built up areas can interfere with the signal, radio masts, near by radar stations or if there is a lot of iron ore in the ground - old mine sites. Hope that helps
@@shaunthedrone The RTH does not apply just to Phantom 3 Standard (witch I do not have)... there are certain maneuvers, drone behaviors, none of them covered here, from Video signal loss, GPS signal loss, prevent landing in wrong spot, landing safely away from home when low battery ... and other behavior preventing crashing the drone...

Try pushing both sticks inwards for take-off or remove the app and re-load the app - hope that helps :)
