Your channel just popped up perhaps because the last few weeks I've been looking at kobo e-readers. i like dark and disturbing books as well so I subscribed. I'm looking forward to hearing your reviews.
I’m new to e readers, previously just read on iPad. Just finding it a little heavy nowadays I won’t buy books as we have an amazing library. All I want is something that will be easy to get library books on… what and when I purchase will be a bonus. I’m a senior so note taking per se is not important at…also just a nice plus. Which e reader would you recommend dp,ease
If you don';t care about the color highlighting or note taking, I think a more basic ereader would be what you want. If you live in the States, getting library books on your kindle is super easy. You go to your library website, and as the books come in, it just takes a click or two to have it send to your kindle. A kindle paperwhite in that case is what I would go with. I'm not an expert on ereaders, but that one is the one I've used the longest and have gotten for my grandmother, who was also very happy with it
I’m glad you like it because I just placed an order a couple of days ago and am eagerly waiting for it to come in the mail. I was also disappointed to see they didn’t carry a lot of indie horror authors, but I’m going to see if I can just convert the Kindle files to Kobo.
I will probably have to give converting a try also. I hope to see the kobo store expand though. I felt like it took AGES for mine to ship. It really only took a week but I was very excited. I hope you love it when it arrives !
I know this is an odd question but how does children books handle on the kobo libra? I have a guilty pleasure of reading kid books with the cute covers. I can't resist reading them and joying them. unfortunately my kindle is black and white and i can't enjoy the full colored experience.
I downloaded the Lorax to test this out. It was def. a better experience to see all the colours, but I did have to zoom in to see the words on the pages better. Keep in mind that the colours won't be as vibrant as an ipad, but they still came across very nicely
Thank you so much for this video. After one month of use are you still happy you purchased it? I am about to purchase mine and just want to see if you still love it.
I do love this device, and it has gotten me into using e-reading more often. I will say that the main downside is the online catalog of books. kobo plus (their version of kindle unlimited) is nothing in comparison. I'm told that when authors use amazon to publish their self published works....that they agree not to release on other platforms. I'm not sure if this is an issue with other genres, but I read a lot of indie horror, and many authors are not available. That said, I find it easy to use overdrive and take out books from my library, so I've been using that feature a lot. I hope you enjoy yours when it arrives!
I loved having an ipad mini, and thought I would also use it to read, but the backlight on phones/ipads strain my eyes. I hope you love your kobo when you get it!
Considering how slow typing on an e-ink reader usually feels I'm excited to try out this pen feature. I heard that you can only sync one library at a time between the kobo and libby? I've never transferred books from the library manually before. Is it pretty simple?
I only have one library card, so I haven't tried it, but I have heard that you can only do one at a time, so signing in and out between them is annoying. It is very simple to transfer, but I usually use overdrive (which is built into it) and request my books that way directly from my kobo.
Will the White Kobo ever discolor? I love the white color, as it doesn't show smudges as easily as the black bezels -- but the discoloration (yellowing) concern exists.
Nice review. I would get the Kobo but I frequently use Kindle Unlimited and have 2 years that were gifted to me. I noticed some authors I follow are not on Kobo.
That is the biggest downfall for me. A lot of the indie authors I enjoy are not on Kobo, and from what I hear, it is due to a contract with having their work, on Amazon. So I likely won't be giving up my kindle completely
You can convert amazon books and pdfs found online and it all goes in the kobo! That's why it's so much better than kindle, you can put any ebook or document on the kobo
I also felt this way until the people of Reddit convinced me to break away from the Kindle ecosystem and give Kobo a try. Eagerly awaiting mine to arrive!
I hope they add a pen feature as well. Aside from the color highlighter being able to write your notes is a big selling point. Typing on an e-ink screen is so annoying.
I mostly read horror, and the only authors I see on kobo plus are most of Darcy Coates books and most of Robert McCammon's novels. There are some random books that catch my attention, but not enough for me to keep the subscription. There are many more authors available for purchase, but not so much if the book is with a smaller publishing press. Most of the ones I am looking for and find are ones you would find in major book stores. Kindle unlimited really takes the prize on this one, but I believe it is because most independent authors that publish on KU have an agreement not to release on any other e reader
With kobo plus it says you can read unlimited , does that mean the book goes back after reading it , or do we keep it? This part confuses me. I had my kobo glow for 12 years before I got a new one.
Hi. Does this eReader not have an audio feature? No video I’ve watched so far discusses that feature & there isn’t any info about this, which worries me from an accessibility standpoint. I unfortunately have dyslexia, so audio books, screen reader/ability to read pages on books that aren’t audiobook eligible, font/line spacing customisation- those are tools that help me manage the learning disability. It’s not hopeful how eReaders aren’t the most accessible.
I'm sorry to say that it doesn't have an audio function like you describe. It does have a section for audiobooks, which you would purchase (at what looks like a higher price often) and you can listen that way. I think a lot of ereaders have moved away from the function you describe, and I actually forgot that I used to listen to my books that way at one time. I'm sure you are aware, but just in case you aren't, of services like EverAnd (formerly Scribd) where you pay a monthly fee and can listen as much as you like. That one is my personal favorite since you don't have to pay per book. It would be using your phone or tablet though, as opposed to an ereader. I'm sorry this one doesn't have the feature that would help you (and many others) out!
