    THANK YOU for talking about kindle’s cloud syncing feature. When I’ve seen other comparison videos, they keep talking about how much easier it is to do on kobo. In my opinion it’s SO much easier on kindle when you can just send to kindle or via email, AND it’s synced across multiple devices.
    I’m a kindle user but I envy kobo’s reading stats

    • @tammietriestoread
      @tammietriestoread  2 месяца назад +5

      it's really THE thing that sets them apart in a practical way! it's kind of surprising to me that there are no reading stats at all because they clearly do calculate your time read in order to show your reading progress so it seems silly to me that they don't just show some basic stuff 😭

      a note about sideloading on kindle: i don't know about android, but on iphone you can sideload files from the file app by clicking share, clicking on the kindle app and sending it to kindle. i've never had to use the kindle email this way.

    I bought a kobo libra 2 last year and honestly it's been pretty great. I only use Libby/overdrive and it's been good for me. I really want to avoid amazon as much as possible so kobo and storygraph as my reading tracker app have been so incredible.
    Also edit to add: i did just purchase a refurbished kobo because i wanted a little bit smaller ereader specifically for me traveling (havent received it yet) but i dont think anyone really needs more than 1 ereader so i do appreciate you mentioning how aesthetic-icizing ereaders can lead to overconsumption because damn do i feel pressure to get all these fancy accessories and more ereaders just because others make it so appealing

      refurbished is always such a great option, especially since you often can get good warranty on them as well so you can have that peace of mind! and I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that pressure 🥲

    The location number is used due to the discrepancy between a book page and a Kindle screen. It is a more precise indicator of where you are in a book and helps to sync your devices across the many methods you can use to read Kindle books/listen to some audiobooks.

    I have a Kindle Paperwhite Signiture and recently got a Scribe, too. These are my first two e-readers and they have many options I really like, but now I'm considering getting Kobo Libra color. I hear from different sources that Kobo has a lot of good features and that is more customizable and you can repare and replace different parts of the device. I just really wish it had speakersnstead of buttons. Afterwards at some future point I will probably get a Onyx Boox Note Air 3 C or something like it.

    I got a kobo Libra color about 2 months ago and I absolutely love it. Unfortunately, a large amount of the books I want to read are available on kindle unlimited, so I ended up getting a kindle basic as well to save money since I was buying paperbacks and it adds up quickly (but it was on sale at Best Buy for $15 off and I had an extra $10) so I couldn’t really beat that deal. Honestly I love kobo so much. I bought a Sage a while ago and I've absolutely gotten my money's worth of it - honestly besides the kindle ecosystem there's 0 reason to grab a kindle over kobo. Not to mention, screw amazon, can I get an amen?

    • @tammietriestoread
      @tammietriestoread  3 месяца назад +1

      how do you find the size of the sage? i was so intrigued by it when it first launched!

    • @morganlikesstationery
      @morganlikesstationery 3 месяца назад +1

      @@tammietriestoread It's a couple inches shorter and wider than an A5 book. As a dedicated Shoulder Bag Man I've found the size doesn't sacrifice its portability for me - the main thing people complain about is the battery life and ime it hasn't been too bad. I bought the charging case but I really don't need it 99% of the time - one charge can last me 2-3 weeks to a month with semi-regular use, which, yeah, is pitiful in comparison to other ereaders, but unless you're going to backpack the appalachian trail I don't think it's a huge deal-breaker.
      The main thing is that with the Libra Color 2, there's really no real reason to get a Sage, as the Color 2 does everything the Sage does, and has better battery life, and has colorways, and its reduced size makes it more portable.
      Sorry for the essay I just have a lot of opinions lol

      @tammietriestoread  3 месяца назад +1

      thank you for this! I just know university me would've loved the sage, it came out approximately 10 years too late for me 😭 I'm not sure if I'm sold on the colour Kobos yet tbh but I'm intrigued to see if they'll come out with a sage colour somewhere down the line because it seems like the use cases for a larger screen and a colour screen have quite a bit of overlap 🤔

When I do get a new one yes I can see myself buying it BRAND NEW this time, however it will be a purchase that makes sense because this second hand one was already my trial to discover “will I like this? Will I even want to use a e-reader?”

    I have owned a few Kobos over the years, I had the original Kobo from 2011 and I loved it. I used it for years till the D pad stopped working. I then got the Glo HD and had nothing but problems. Had to send it back to get it repaired when it was 8-9 months old. Took weeks to get back then it stopped working again, but since it was over a year old at that point they wouldn't fix it.
    I decided to try Kindle at that point. I like Kindle, I still have my 2017 one and use it sometimes though it is not my favorite. I do find side-loading books easier on Kindle. I don't use it very often. The few times that I tried it with Kobo years ago it was a pain in the butt.
    Honestly, I like Kobo's UI better. Recently my library has greatly improved their e book catalog and as a Canadian, that means Kobo is the better option since Kindle Overdrive is US-only. I bought another Kobo about a year and a half ago (Clara 2e) and love it, haven't had an issue with this one. I use it mostly for library books and it works great.

    Another huge thing to note that I just found out is that Amazon is getting rid of the “send to kindle” feature with the newer kindles :(

      i had heard they were removing the option to download from your kindle to your computer, not the send to kindle feature, but that's very disappointing if that's true.

    I think the biggest advantage with Kobo is that the page count actually updates when you change font size. The biggest advantage for Kindle is the sync for side-loaded content.

    With the calibre software ecosystem doesn’t matter. I just bought the kobo libra color for the stylus and ability to annotate books with multiple colors and being able to write notes directly on the books. Sleep wake covers are a must for me and I’ve never had an issue. I’ve side loaded fonts with no issues. Open Sans is very readable for me. I’m not a fan of serifs.
