I think we should have a Mike Matei Day. A Mike MaDay, if you will. Where we all just binge watch our favorite streams for the entire 24 hours, we're not allowed to watch anything Mike didn't upload, act in, or help write. Somebody needs to make an approved list of the nerd eps, only the ones he wrote part of. (I love that all Ryan did was mention pie day and Mike ranted for five minutes about special days for profit. Perfect start)
Agreed. I forgot about Mike after he left Cinemassacre, but after the shit show it turned into after ScreenWave took over, I love Mike's commentary on everyday life.
Zombies ate my neighbours was such a big part of my childhood. The soundtrack, my god the music is just flawless The bonus levels were a really cool aspect too
Not addressing only the current discussion. Thank you deeply for the rants, banter, laughter, the recollections of times good and sometimes frustrating. Watch here asap and love the content also binge the podcast throughout the grind. Best wishes.
Nobody will believe me when I say this but I beat Zombies ate my neighbors a few times and never died. Beat it in 1996, I played it so much that I knew everything about the game. Mike didn't you play or stream Ghoul Patrol (the unofficial ZAMN sequel game)?
+Charlie Chang It's easy for people to believe that you did it with proof, just live stream yourself beating the game. I just did. After watching Mike's attempt, I wanted to live stream and beat it myself.
This has become one of my favorite podcasts. You two have great chemistry and the opinions you have are great in my opinion. I honestly have never followed y'alls other content so it may seem strange I like the podcast but I cannot get enough. Lets get a whole podcast about how holidays suck and Ryan's stories of annoying experiences of raising kids lol.
Thank you for the video! I only beat Zombies ate my Neighbors once... really hard game. The last showdown with Dr. Tongue was frustrating 'coz I had very little weed whacker fuel and that hindered my mobility. You meet the game's developers as part of the ending, a nice jovial touch.
24:00 the skeleton keys were so cool. Just a really rare item that you'll always need down the line 27:30 I've only beaten it once and that was... With save states...
Hey, I've watched a few episodes on-and off and this seems to be getting better as with each installment. Really enjoyed this one - also never got past the sandworm stage (or boss?) when I played Zombies ate my neighbors as a kid, and I loved the hell out of that game.
I really enjoyed the opening discussion about the absurd amount of holidays. You guys hit the nail on the head. Untitled Goose Game might be my favorite indie game that I’ve ever played.
i used to have the same attitude towards "who the fucks cares about Mario day it's stupid bullshit" but whatever, what the fuck else are you doing on March 10 honestly, it's a stupid excuse but it's no different then going "ok I'm gonna play only LJN games for a month for no fucking reason" let people have something to look forward to. You can totally ignore it and opt out of participation but it's ok to have some random fucking stupid dates to remember nostalgia or enjoy some dumb shit.
I actually enjoy the conversation about how everyday is a something day. I as well don't like it however it's north American society....we are consumers and that makes the world go round.
I actually know someone who ignores everything. Birthdays, holidays, even Christmas. Never travels or takes a day off. Lives every day the exactly same way as the day before. You wouldn't want to be this guy.
nah i'm like that because we do party whenever we feel like not when other people tell us too. and we make up our own one time holidays instead of corporate garbage like watching passion of the christ with all orthodox christmas foods though my workplace forces me to take vacations because it's a law so i just sit out cold decembers at home
i always die at the same spot in zombies ate my neighbors. i can get just past level 50 and you get to a supermarket level. the survivor spawns just below you on the other side of a wall and is almost instantly killed by a evil doll every single time.
I haven't really tried to get through zombies at my neighbors before, but have played it, but man I didn't realize it gets that rough. May have to seriously give it a go sometime. Goose game has always looked great, but I still haven't ever picked it up. May have to grab it and finally give it a shot.
About the Mario Day, your points were valid. I'd also add that being a gamer geek is trendy and cool now. You'd have never seen Mario Day when we were kids. Lots of kids played video games, but the really passionate geeky gamer kids (such as myself) were geeky and uncool. Nowadays it's the opposite among kids. Like, if you're in 4th grade and you DON'T play Minecraft, you're a loser.
Mike shortly after this video got on the phone to his mum and said “listen b*tch I don’t care what I said about commercial holiday’s get me that f*cking turtles in time collection for Xmas!”
Mike this is my new favorite podcast and it's the only one I have a mental schedule for as I always listen as soon as it's uploaded. I only listen here on RUclips so will just continue to LIKE and comment here. DON'T QUIT, YOU ASSHOLE! ♥
Just seeing this for the first time. Please tell me Mike is back!!!! It's just not cinemassacre without him. Not sure why he left but for heavens sake guys, either back the loyal fans your age or get used to catering to the new generation who has no idea what loyalty or nostalgia ever are. Make this a weekly thing!!!!!
The opening discussion really establishes what a sucker so many people are today, operating as unpaid marketing promoters for these massive corporations that would give them lymphoma for a few extra dollars.
The way Mike describes Zombies Ate My Neighbors reminds me of The Tower of Druaga where you also have to find a bunch of hidden treasures and use them on much later stages. It's also incredibly weird and difficult. The Tower of Druaga was also initially an arcade game and supposedly Japanese gamers would exchange secrets in the arcade to collectively beat that game. But I can't imagine that being a lot of fun unless you had nothing else to do. The same with ZAMN. I like the idea of the game and the graphics and such, but not so much the gameplay. So I would strongly agree with Mike on this one. There are old games that I like to go back to, but ZAMN is not one of them.
I don't remember the year of Luigi. Love Mario, Luigi and Wario. I played Zombies ate My Neighbors with my sitters son on SNES back when it first came out. Im kinda surprised the game didn't come out on PC or Mac in the 90s. I love the fact that the game is on Switch easy to pick up play and save my game. Untitled Goose game looks like lots of fun. The A$$hole Goose Game would be a great title for the game.
i always felt Grabbed by the Ghoulies (Rare, XBOX) was a good modernized take on Zombies game. You fight a lot of classic monsters and theres different tactics for each one.
Regarding the discussion on marketing, we live in a market system so yeah companies are compelled to sell anything and everything. If we change the system then we can make the system work however we want. Which by the way I advocate changing the system but there's a lot of fear of change by the average person so I guess we just get to deal with sales and advertisements and the trampling of wholesome ideas for the sake of profit.
If playing the SNES version of Zombies are my Neighbors , use the code BCDF to start the game on the first Bonus level . You’ll have a chance to play it again after level 1 if you get the hidden “?” . This will give you an some extra items .
@mikematei you have to try out fire striker for snes. I just played it. Top veiw like link to the past..sword swinging. Bouncing a fireball back and forth to break blocks so some puzzle solving aspects and good boss fights. Definetly worth trying out. Ive never played it before today actually.
You can see a movie in three years if you want but if you care about spoilers it's hard to avoid them if you wait that long. Personally I'm a huge Marvel nerd so I try to see them as soon as possible so that I don't run into spoilers before I get a chance to experience the new film for myself. Especially since there are assholes who spoil shit the day a film comes out.
Quite a few weekends as a kid renting zombies ate my neighbours that hurt my brain. Fuck, the concept of renting a game would blow a poor gen z's little mind.
Zombies ate my Neighbors...My fave 2-player game. But most the skill comes from memorizing the level layouts. The rest is about saving that bazooka and beast potion for bosses and hedge mazes. For the record, the last level password is not impossible, as long as you discard all but one neighbor. (it's still hard though)
Mike hates anniversaries. Most people would say it makes him a jerk, but he's probably the romantic type that just loves his old lady 365 days a year, not just one. and plays Mario 365 days a year. it's a good way to be.
This is EXACTLY my ideology on Valentine's. Ppl would probably write me off as a salty single loner but like... Why designate only ONE day a year to loving not only those close to you, but to any of your fellow species when you should always do that everyday?
These MAR10 and May The Forth days quite lame. But if they going to celebrate with sales on games I'm alright with it. I don't use twatter and imagine that's where it can get annoying and bit in your face. But if Mario games go on a big sale, and for example Oculus drop price of all their Star Wars games on 4th May, fine. First I've heard about Pie day. Don't think we do that one over here
Wish I could play Zombies Are My Neighbors but Limited Run Games is taking their fuckin lazy ass time to ship it and would be nice if they told me if the manufacturing factory had problems, shipping overseas was being stop from whatever restriction that happening lately, or a shitload of the game was being ordered by a extra 10 million that will take few extra months but nope.
@@returnMarcco I'm not the biggest fan of emulation or have the best of luck with it for that matter. I prefer putting the game in the console and just play it instead of getting a computer then go through all the annoying computer crap just play one game.

The castle music is taken from the shining lol The part in the beginning when he is driving and it shows an up view in the sky at the car. So awesome.

I've beaten zombies ate my neighbors on original hardware. Took 15 years of playing. One of the hardest games of all time.
Ryan ranting about special days while wearing a shirt that reads “Steam Dev Days” is golden. 🤣

Zombies Ate My Neighbors is one of those games I never beat just because I get tired of it as the levels go on and on and on...
It's an endurance test for sure
i never beat it because it was insanely hard while i kinda loved the graphics
