Cameron Crowe has completely nailed the early 70's feel. The dramatic use of this song is perfect, Bernie and Elton would love it, certainly Bernie would. Having been in my share of dysfunctional bands, I can totally identify. The angst and the comaradarie. Fantastic scene i never get tired of.
I cried when I first saw this on big screen. Cameron Crowe is a musical genius when it comes to soundtracks, However, He f....ing Nailed it with this one! I'm so glad he picked this obscure Elton John's gem and turned it into a classic! Just like Anne Fletcher did with Bennie and The Jets in her "27 Dresses" film.
I agree with @@lisadc4681 , not obscure in the least. This song has been a classic since it was released in the 70s, not since this movie was released.
@@Iris-gy2mi Thank you Iris! I felt like I was living in the twilight zone when I read " obscure Elton John" song!@#%! One of his all time biggest hits!! Reminds me of how often you see people claiming some of the biggest and most successful rock stars or groups are "under rated"! See that all the time on youtube comments..everyone from Bob Dylan to The Beatles, to CSN, to The Who I've read are "under rated" on youtube!!😂
@@lisadc4681 , yes! Even as an 80s baby, this song was an absolute classic! It has stood them test of time, it's one of my favorites! And funny you mention "underrated" artists...I was watching "Father figure" by George Michael the other day and noticed someone called him underrated. Not in my lifetime, maybe for the people born later I'm guessing? Either way, I treasure 80s and 90s music, the music of today can't even compare.
I remember seeing this very line/scene in the original trailer for the movie back in 2000 and telling myself "Wow, this looks REALLY good, I have got to see this film." The trailer's awesomeness didn't even come close to preparing me for just how amazing the entire movie actually was. Well done Cameron Crowe, VERY well done. :-)

Yes, Kate Hudson is awsome in this movie...Love this scene..gets me everytime..Looking back, I was lucky...yeah, the 70's were great, had we only known, we complained when gas hit 80 cents.. ...I respect those who wish and lament they were born so late..Amazing how many people think Elton wrote this for the movie..Thanks to whoever put this up....It's true, if this doesn't touch your heart and soul, I feel bad for you...JB..RBC class of '79
This is my favourite part of the movie! It's just so beautiful..This film is one of the things I watch when I feel blue, I just watch it and makes me happy :)
This lyric is all time. "Jesus freaks, out in the street, handing tickets out for god. Turning back, she just LAUGHS, the boulevard is not that bad." Doesn't get any better and what's WAY worse, they not writing them like that anymore.
I am genuinely sad that this kind of life is SO hard to get, and I am not talking about free love, I am talking about FREEdom, being ti live where you want... how you want...
Never paid attention to this Elton John song until i saw 'Almost Famous'.....It really stuck a chord and opened up a part of me which i never knew existed within me...... "Hold me closer tiny dancer Count the headlights on the highway Lay me down in sheets of linen You had a busy day today"..............................
Mark Kozelek makes them start singing. As far as I am concerned one of the best modern musicians. Sun kil moon, Red house painters... This guy can write amazing songs.
There are two movies that I know of that used the song Tiny Dancer as part of the sound track. The first was Aloha Bobby and Rose. The second was this, Almost Famous. There is something about this song that appeals to us in our very souls. It always seems to lift us up no matter how down we are at the time. I makes us want to break free and give it just one more shot, to banish our woes, our sorrows. If Elton John will be remembered for nothing else it will be this song..........You see, it takes all of us home.
My teacher played this video in class so that we could appreciate the oldies music better. I thought, yeah right, but now I'm stuck on this song, it's amazing!

this version without the bridge is so much better than the original song! the bridge just completely destroys the build up to the awesome chorus. where as this version is amazing!
One of the best movie scenes ever.
best sing-along scene, hands down
