    Color theory is a real life application of the saying, "You have to know the rules in order to effectively bend them to your advantage."

    As someone who dyes natural fabrics, I can attest to the fact that you gotta sometimes disregard the labels that some companies use. In fabric dyeing you basically have 3 warm primaries, and you have 3 cool primaries, and companies are always changing the names (as if it wasn't bad enough). You can really have some fun exploring this with fabric dye. With those 6 colors, you can theoretically make any color.

      Yup, labels mean very little!

    Complement with an e is when two hues "complete" the presence of all three primary hues in the pair. Red and green (blue+yellow). Yellow and violet (red+blue). Blue and orange (red+yellow). Comple-ment / Comple-te . . .
    Very much enjoy all your videos. Thanks!

    "Understanding colour theory will save you trial and error." This was the crucial thing our high school art teacher failed to mention. Thank you.

    Thank you for sharing your design knowledge, expertise, and color theory! ESPECIALLY (Design 101!!), explaining the difference between the terms, "compliment vs complement"! I hear so called 'designers' using the term 'complement' incorrectly way too often! I've been waiting for someone to set the record straight! Thanks again!

    Hello, Zoe, my name is Ryan Carignan and I am a 24-year-old prospective fashion student. I am currently watching your Fashion Design Process Video Course and it is stellar! I never knew that in the initial phases of design you should take inspiration not from clothing but through the world around you. I had no idea that colour theory and mood boards were essential elements to create a collection. I look forward to continuing to watch your video course and being inspired by your knowledge and expertise.
    Take care,
    Ryan

    Regarding the color-story that you've created, great choices and I love the green so much! Maybe go all in and set a rule for the green being specific for certain fabrics only, really falling in love with that beautiful emerald color in the top-center image. Vivid greens are so opulent

    I've honestly never studied color theory and this teaching opened my eyes WIDE to how important it is in the creation process, especially since I've recently started using watercolor as my go to medium for illustrating my fashion art.... Now I'm going to seriously apply this to my swatching! As always I'm so grateful for your extravagant and generous teaching style and willingness to share very useful information 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

    In terms of dyeing white (or near-white) fabric, is low dye saturation considered a 'tint', even though no white is being added? In other words, does low dye saturation work the same way as a tint in painting terms, or does it function differently? I assume that watercolor painters must have language for this kind of saturation, but I've never heard it mentioned separately, so I'm assuming the white base color is just considered almost a part of the mix.
    Edit: I hope I am asking this coherently.

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  Год назад +2

      Low dye saturation? I'm assuming you're talking about less dye and more water? And in watercolor painting, less paint and more water. That is like a tint, as the water replaces the white.

    Thank you, that was incredibly informative! Could you maybe include some negative examples in future videos? Like, what colors definitely don't work together. Cause now I feel like every color is in some way working with other, and so I lose the meaning behind main harmonious triangles...

    Hello, zoe!! Did you watch the Korean series " the fabulous "? It's a fashioned themed series also about friendship and love. It shows the life of a fashion designer, model, photographer, and like a person working in fashion. I just wanna know if those what I have seen in the series is somehow similar to what happens in real life ? Cause I really want to be a fashion designer and model at the same time. BTW love the clothes and garments on the show. ❤❤

      Hi, I’m already stady but I have same problem sometimes. For me works to start with something simple, like my favorite styles, aesthetics ect. I try to imagine how already existing thinks could work together, for exaple try to do steampunk outfit but witch pastel colors, or dark academia + kiberpunk kidn of vibe. So my mind can imagine smth more interesting then just white tshirt with blue skirt. Also pinterest wery cool, we always use this on lessons to find inspiration
