I'm at this same stage bro I almost metered at the last show but when I got out there I felt like the little guy lol I probably have three times the money invested as some of those guys and they were blowing me away needless to say I didn't compete YET!!!! Just had a team reach out "TBO" Team Bass Outlaws TN chapter and asked me to join you know I did that was my goal to join a team and now I'm trying to get my setup right I'm going to get a box for the trunk so I can drop to a lower class and put a good 8-10k on the Tyrant 15 get the doors right and everything sound deadened and then I will try I want to break a 150 before I jump in the lanes now that I'm on a team I have people to help me I'm excited to learn everything and see just how loud I can get
I definitely know that feeling! Pulling up n then backing out lol. But yea having the team support is gonna be a huge help. But damn a 150 the first time competing would be impressive! And with that much power you might just do it! Definitely let me know how that goes. Thanks for checking this one out man!
i dont know everything but know a lot of things that may or not help, 1]both the subs and alternators use coils, as the coils heat up there power production drop, [this can be used to your benfit] 2] amps have caps and do indeed have a burst energy, sometimes substantially over the rms power with that being said turning your volume slowly deplete your capcitor capcity, so for loudest scores its best to pause the track turn the volume all the way up and then let it rip, this will ensure the max power to the sub, if your alt, and sub are cold and you have your engine rpm up it all works in conjunciton 3]amps output power is related to input voltage, people often mod alternators to 15 volts, this makes a noticable difference in power output 4] considered building a paraflex design, they are tapped horn designs that give you an additional 6-10 db. .
Heard a couple of these, but a couple were new! Thanks for the info! Not sure how deep into competing I’m going to get, but I definitely plan on implementing some of the tips I’ve learned since posting this video. Really appreciate the insight!
Dude i watch a ton of car audio channels...your delivery and format comes across very clear and entertaining.Keep it up and to the moon brother with ur channel
Thanks man, I appreciate that feedback! I’m still trying to figure youtube out, but comments like that are super encouraging. Thanks for checking it out
hahaha that chick with the blue scion was at July's Bloomington's basswars.. she got first place with 163DB hahah... i even got a demo, it was right on the verge of hurting the ears...
Yea she takes that thing out to all the events! And yea man that build does some insane numbers for what it is! Completely blew my mind when she took Port Wars
Yea man that thing was SERIOUS. I honestly dropped the ball on not checking that one out a lil more in depth when I had the chance. My mind was NOT in the usual space since I was competing (thank goodness not against him!) I'm definitely gonna give it a proper walk around/build dissection next time I see it.
Congratulations on your first competition.. I'm a retired SPLer from the mid 2000s. I was sponsored by Kicker and Soundstream and won a National title. I remember my first competition, I was nervous AF because I didn't know what I was doing. From that day on, I was hooked! Over the next 5 years, I bought 8 vehicles just to compete in and thousands upon thousands in amps, batteries and subs. This sport is very addicting. There are so many things that come into play such as sensor placement, seat position, glove box door open or closed. A dip or rise in temperature could change your burping frequency. Like you said, there is a science to competing. BTW, when you are doing SPL, all you need is a 3 second burp. I love the production of your videos. They are like watching TV shows. Thanks for posting and wishing you all the best with your competitions!
Thanks man! I’m always super surprised at how many OGs in car audio actually check out my newbie-ass videos lol. I really appreciate that! And thanks for that feedback! I’m trying to really take this channel and these videos seriously
nice job. i just went to basswars in Bloomington in july for my first time and i got first place in bandit class with a 142 DB on 2 skar SDR 12s and a 1200.1 at 1ohm.
Oh nice! First place first time up? That'll hook you! I keep meaning to head up to one of the Bloomington shows. Recently changed my engine so I should be able to hit one of those pretty soon.
@@DaBadNewz they are having another in Bloomington October 5th 2024 2pm to 7pm for the new season open, 2025 Bass Wars West Coast Season Opener. ill be there with my new system. 2 - ZV6 15s on 2 CAB45 with 90ah LTO. cant wait to see my new score... and hope to see u there
@genofontecchio4159 maaaaan I wanted to go to that one! But unfortunately I’m traveling that weekend. Definitely gonna be hitting some events ip there this next season though!
Wait…you talkin shit?! Lol jk thanks man! Glad you enjoy it. I put a lot of work into these so I really appreciate when people notice. (I just hope to do better than the history channel!)
Then mission accomplished! I appreciate that feedback man! I’m still figuring this shit out but comments like that are super encouraging man. And I appreciate the sub!
Thanks! And I'm still pretty new myself, so I'm happy to showcase my experiences with car audio and the builds and people that inspire and pass down knowledge to me. Thanks for checking out my stuff man, hope you enjoy some of the upcoming videos!
You gotta connect with QuadFathers! They’re a Hawaii based audio company and have events a couple times a year (JP from Down4Sound was just out there like a month or so ago). But thanks man! Happy to show the world how we’re doing out here
@@DaBadNewz yeah... my NEPHEW... Pono Castro... I HEAR he is making noise in that neighborhood.... LOL.... I will drop by onne day and let him know DA BAD NEWS sent me.... Love your work bud.... DO MORE SHOWS.... get the SCOOP... BDBD/2024
Thanks for the feedback! Always nice hearing from folks that have been in the game a long time (or were in a long time ago). I never thought I’d compete, but it’s a lot of fun! I’m definitely just getting started! Thanks for checking it out!
Thanks man! I appreciate you checking it out, and I REALLY appreciate the feedback! I'm still trying to figure out how to present these so that helps a lot.
I'm new to this competing myself. I got into it after getting a crazy demo from a friend with 60k watts on 6 platinum resilient sounds 15s. It's so hard to explain the nervousness I had. I built a 6th order in my crown vic. 2x15v3s on a bass 8k taramps. 45ah yinlong and a 240 mechman alt. I also didn't know what I was doing. They let me sweep to see peak. I peaked at 35 hz. So I hit a 150.8. Took 1st place in my class. M3 class 3K TO 6K. I clamped 4400 watts . Next weekend at my 2nd contest I upped the voltage to 15.8 and hit a 151.8 at 35 hz 4060 watts. Also 1st place again!! I'm currently upgrading sealing and deadening. Imma sub to your channel. Love the way you edit your videos my man!! Congrats on your build!!
Damn you came out swinging! And I kinda wish I would have swept in the lanes just to double check that I couldn’t ran it a lil lower (frequency wise). I really wanna know what I do at about 30Hz. I know that sealing and deadening is gonna make a big difference for you! And thanks for the sub man! I really appreciate the support from the basshead community
Slam is 10000% on the list man! I’m trying to work up to the point where I can start hitting some of those big ass shows in the south and midwest. That’s cool af you already right there!
Not bad my best score with 2 xv3 15s was a 149.9 at 26hz with 2000watts stock alt I have 4now working on finishing it up hoping to be playing end of month
@bryce_fa5si that’s super nice! On a stock alt too? That’s impressive! I’m definitely trying to run a lower frequency next time. I’d rather see where I’m at 26. Good shit!
That’s the great thing about car audio, you are never done! You have endless content, just keep thinking, dreaming and building. Good luck, I’ll be watching for sure.
That's for damn sure! And honestly with the way I like to upgrade (one step at a time just to compare individual improvements), there will never not be something to swap out or mess with. Thanks for the support man!
Nah they really are though! I feel like my shit slaps a lil bit…until I hit a bass meet or a comp…then I realize I got a LONG way to go! I appreciate you checking out the video!
@@DaBadNewz dude no problem, you actually make entertaining content. I do have a question though, hoping you could help. I got a 2400 watt amp, 2 10s and I’ve been having issues with my fuse near my battery melting, do yk why? I can provide more details if needed
Thanks man! I’m trying! As far as that fuse holder, I know that’s usually a loose/bad connection, but it’s hard to say from here. Be sure your power and ground wires can handle the power too. It came out of nowhere?
I had been plagued by a parasitic draw for a few months and get it fixed only to smoke an amp the first time out!! Basshead problems. Cool to see you get into the lanes. Thanks for your videos 🙏
oh nooo! I hate having to track down shit like that, but then to blow it first time out? I know that hurt! It's the life we chose though man! Hope you back up n running soon. And thanks man! It was a lot of fun and I feel dumb for being scared all this time. Definitely gonna run it again! Appreciate you!
Just subscribed to your channel. Super humble dude, and a great walk through. I'd love to see more bass wars on the channel. Congratulations on the 145. I just did a 44 at the kick on my single sub
Thanks man that means a lot! I legitimately appreciate each and every view. There will DEFINITELY be more bass wars. I eventually want to start traveling around to events outside my area, but for now I’m gonna hit every event I can. And thanks (and congrats on yours)! I’m just really happy it did anything at all since it’s DIY. I’ve been scared to meter it ever since I built it
Just found your channel man! Awesome Quailty 😌 Psst...btw next time your in the lane, open the door farthest away from the meter! Just a small tip from a KICKER guy😏
Thanks man! And yea I was noticing some of the other competitors doing that. I definitely still need to do more testing to find my "best" configuration. Thanks for the suggestion man! Looks like you got a lot of good info for me to catch up on!
Thanks man! I’m still figuring out how to present these, so I really appreciate that feedback. And yea man do that! I never really thought about competing, but now that I have, I want to again. Thanks for the encouragement man, I really appreciate that!
~145db is still pretty damn loud man... most people with a "sick car stereo" barely crack 130db. Congrats on your first comp! Your install looks nice and clean too, pretty dope bro :D
Thanks man! Honestly, I feel like I cheated to get those numbers because I ran so high (48 and 49 Hz)...I wanna be doing 145 at 18Hz!! But nah I'm happy with it for now. And I appreciate that man! It's all DIY and always evolving (slowly!)
@@DaBadNewz Hell yeah, well I feel you though. I did a 142db at 46Hz (two 12" subs on 3k) and I wasn't real happy... I do a 151.7 now at 32Hz at the head rest (two 15" subs on 5k) and I'm finally happy with it. If you want to get real low, tune for 20hz and put like four 15"s in a big ass enclosure with a shiitload of port area. Even go a 4th or 6th order and do a sub 20 tune on a mid 30's tune on the chambers... my man you will blow way past 145 real fast :D You obviously take pride in your installation, it's clean af bro. Looks real good and even though you peak in the high 40's there's nothing wrong with that at all. Plenty of great music to play in those ranges, but I feel you... when you just want them low lows you will stop at almost nothing :D
It's funny you say that about the 15s in a 4th or 6th...cuz I'm pretty sure that's exactly what I'm gonna be doing (but we a long way from there). I kinda wanna try 15s next (just because I've had 12s and 18s in all my cars), and for that frequency response, you not gonna beat having 2 separate tunes to cover the ranges you want...like the teens!!! And I appreciate that man! I definitely take pride in the build! I want it to have a cool look to it, but also I NEED it to hit some lows. And I mean it will play down to 26, but at probably like 130 or something lol Thanks for checking out the video and adding some insight man! I honestly feel like I've learned more since I started making videos (than when I was just watching them), thanks to a dope ass basshead community leaving suggestions like that. Good lookin out!
Been in the game for a minute! Those are great numbers, especially for SQL and the time period (from what I understand). I think that’s kinda my end goal for this build, full spectrum, loud, and clear.
@@DaBadNewz Yes sir. I'm running 4 kicker q class 15's on a dd audio 8000.1 at 2 ohms, 8 kicker 9 inch pa style speakers on 2 powerbass 1200.2 amps at 2 ohms with 8 kicker 1 inch bullet tweeters on a 400.4 powerbass amp. It's been a work in progress for bout a year now but finally getting all the pieces together. This my first big build. Got me nervous but excited at the same time.
Yea that’s a BIG build! I bet that Kicker/DD combo is gonna be nasty! I’m hoping to get there one day, but I’m just slowly adding shit as I got (for budget, and also just to really gauge the differences at each step in the process). Definitely post some videos of that build when you get it playing!
Thanks for checking it out! I really appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback too, especially from Bavaria! I can’t believe my videos are being watched that far away. Have a great one!
@@DaBadNewz Continue exactly as you are, you'll get enough subscribers and a good community, you have your heart in the right place, that's what makes it so likeable greats from Bavaria
I appreciate the encouragement! Now that I’m starting to see some results from all my work, I can’t help but continue! I really like seeing the progress
I mean that sound like a pretty similar system, you probably there already! You had it metered? Good luck on it man! And thanks for checking out the video
Thanks! There will definitely be some more competing in the future now that I have some kinda idea what I'm doing. Thanks for checking it out, and BIG thanks for the encouragement man!
Yea his build is crazy! And it’s been getting tweaked on ever since this video was shot! I got that track name for you too, I just gotta check out the footage when I get home.
That purple suburban is mine. If you come to finals in October I’ll give you a proper demo. I should have the subs fully broken in and it turned up a little more
Thanks man! And most definitely! I feel like this was a great learning experience in HOW to compete...now I just gotta put those lessons to use! (and maybe a lil money lol)
Awesome video man. I love this "narrated" style (don't know if it's the right word but you get what I mean ^^). Also 145 on 1500 is pretty good! Bass on brother, we'll see that 150 on 1500! 🤙🏽
Thanks for checking it out man! And especially for leaving feedback, I really appreciate that. And thanks! Idk if I’m gonna do it with this 1500, but I will DEFINITELY be hitting 150 at at least 30Hz and in this car
@@DaBadNewzI metered for the first time a few months ago, (1) SDDN 18 on a wolfram 7500.1 did a 150 @36hz the work it takes to get that extra 5db is crazy lmao. I’ve really been fighting not to c pillar wall my expedition
That's what I've heard! I was told you gotta double what you have at 145 to hit 150...then double that to hit 155, then double THAT to see 160! (I know that's not literal, but I very clearly see the idea when you see the numbers the monster systems are doing) I'm "only" 15 dB away from 160...and also like, several thousand dollars and several days of labor away lol. And yea man! I'm trying to keep this a no-wall too (just because I like the style), but DAMNIT if a wall doesn't do the trick! If you end up going that route, post some videos! (Oh and you 3d Print?? Any Car Audio accessories?)
thanks man! I was honestly kinda surprised it was that loud...I haven't metered it in all this time cuz I thought I'd be low af and embarrass myself lol
Nah the walk of shame is for the ones with no build. If you out here doing your thing, you in the game regardless. Can’t expect much better than that when you don’t know how to compete, who your competition is, or even where your car peaks. It’s all a process!
Great first competition. I used to compete in Street Beat 1 which is a 45 second run with Music. You average it out. You can have 1 12", 2 10" or 3 8" subs. I had 1 JL 10W7 on 1 JL 1000 1. I averaged 144.4 on music even though I built my system for Sound Quality. I could do 43Hz bursts of 147.6. I miss competing.
Thanks man! Definitely wont be the last. Those are some pretty damn good numbers on a single 10! That must have sounded nice! I never really intended on competing, but now that I’ve had a taste, I’m already thinking of ways to improve
@@DaBadNewz -Keep in mind that people will say they hit way higher Db scores, than they actually do. Not to mention some who are saying there Db scores, might have been on some oldschool SPL meter that can read up to 15 Db higher than the current Legit SPL meters. In all fairness, some don't even know that these oldschool meters are way off. I have tested my same system on an oldschool Db meter, & it showed a 164 Db, i then tested it on a New pressure style Db meter= Term Lab SPL meter, & it showed a 149 Db. This was the same system, with the meter in the same position, with the same freq. A 145 Db on 1 subwoofer, in a no-wall setup, on a Legit SPL meter is awesome, great job on your 1st competition🎉!
@evilinside5984 Good point! I appreciate the insight. And thanks man! I'm pretty happy with it so far. It definitely has a long way to go, but I think this is a nice starting point.
@@DaBadNewz - That is a very good starting point for sure. The best thing is to remember, as long as you are happy with it, thats all that should really matter. Also im sure it makes you feel proud, that you designed/built your enclosure. Please take this friendly advice, all though testing your Db score is fun @ 1st, its easy to get caught up in the #s game, & to start comparing your system with others, it can be a never ending black hole, if you let it. Like i just wanted a 140, then a 145, like you wanted, & got, then the next big milestone is the Big 150 Db, then 155 Db, then the mount olympus of goals a 160 Db Demo Monster. Remember that someone will always be louder than you. If you don't allow others to get into your head, & you just enjoy how, & what you want to do , you will enjoy car audio for a longtime, & meet many great people. Just don't let the Toxic haters enrage you, as there will be some of those. Again your happiness, & enjoyment is the key.
@@DaBadNewz - I seen that your system has an Fi BL 18", powered by a Sundown scv 1500, but what are you wired to, 1 ohm, or 1/2 ohm? Also what Cubic Feet net, port area, & what is your enclosure tuned to? If you would like to get a better idea of what freq. your vehicle likes most, start by blocking off your port= run it sealed, for a flatter freq. response curve. Then with the SPL meter in the competition location, start testing Db @ 70% volume, using test tones= not sweeps( they are too fast, & can show random/false peaks ). Always make sure the 70% or so volume doesn't change, & that each test tone be held for the same time, like count 1 one thousand, 2 one thousand, 3 one thousand, then as you start saying 4, pause it, & write down the freq., & the score. When you find the peak freq.= highest score obtained, while sealed, & volume only @ 70%, lets say its 48Hz. But when you go for your max SPL score, unblock your port now, & try 1 Hz Lower( 47 Hz ), the peak ( 48 Hz ), & 1 Hz higher ( 49 Hz ), as volume, and weather can slightly change your peak freq. Tips to try to increase your score, make a removable port, & keep trying different port lengths( if your enclosure is currently tuned 10 Hz, or more below your vehicles peak freq., i would 1st try a 1" to 2" shorter port length, if all port length is external, as if its internal, that changes your subs NET cu. Ft.) But each time you change your port length ( shorter raises the tune ), & ( Longer ) lowers the tune, you should retest your Db @ 1 Hz below, @ peak, & @ 1 Hz above, to see if the score goes up, or down. If it goes up, keep making the port shorter till it stops gaining Db. If the score goes down, make the port longer, etc. Hope this helps!?
Yea man! There was a lot to go through with this one, but I’m glad it came out alright! And I appreciate you big time for coming out man. Like I said in the video, that shit is SUPER encouraging from the video creator’s perspective man. Hope to see you at another one man!
@DaBadNewz I got a mini spl meter. They're like $250 but totally worth it to find your number. They're expensive, but nice to use at my own leisure, ya know? That's a nice number tho for 1 sub and minimal power!
@@1ohmwrecker maaan I feel like I cheated with the frequency I had to run to get those numbers! Eventually I'll be hitting that at 28 instead of 48! But yea man honestly, after seeing how easy it was to use...idk. I might have to try and hit up a brand about a review video or something lol It's only really expensive because I'm not trying to compete like that (at least not just yet)...but they definitely seem like a must have if you serious about SPL
@@DaBadNewz yeah that is a pretty high peak! My peak is at 33hz. But I've seen that number vary a lot w different vehicles! You'll be hitting a 150 before ya know it! I finally just got it.
I don’t think it made it to the final video, but the first peak when we metered my car off camera was 38 (which would make sense since I aimed for a tune of 30 when I built the box). But I think my cabin resonance is about 48/49, so that ended up being where my overall peak was at. But yea I’m coming!
Thanks! And yea they're a lot of fun! Even for spectators, it's cool seeing all the builds, and most of the owners are super happy to talk about their cars or give out demos. As far as an upcoming meet, there is a monthly meet here in San Diego (usually on a Saturday). They haven't announced the day for August yet, but it should be dropped any day now. (this is the FB group where I get the info from facebook.com/groups/2021447841247267)
You have a cool channel brohamster. Surprised I'd never seen your content before. I like to scour YT trying to find content creators for our shared hobby. I like that you walked everything out, for everybody. There is so much that goes into building a car stereo system. Lots of disciplines to master. It's a fun hobby and has always engrossed me completely. I've been into it for a about 25 years. Don't get to hit as many shows as I would like anymore with my work; traveling. You might have some gains left undiscovered. Bolster your electrical, do some extra rounding of the interior and exterior of your ports. Maybe a couple 45's in the corner for a more laminar flow. Lay out a tape line with graduated marks (in inches) under your box to the hatch and run some freq. sweeps. When you move the box(enclosure); you'll see the frequency response change in the cabin and you can graph it out. Get yourself a mic and you can build a database of where the enclosure is loudest at in the vehicle at the freq. you want. Sorry I'm totally geeking out on ya bro but if you want to dial your system this is a way to do it. hahaha I'm Kevin by the way. You can find me on the forums and see my build at car audio and diyma "just call me Kev"
Holy shit I’m gonna need to take some notes and come back to this one! Thanks for all the info! I’m still trying to figure out how deep I wanna go into competing, but with these tips I should make it JUST far enough to get completely addicted lol. Thanks for checking it out!
Thanks man!! I don't think he has a youtube, but @GunnyLaz on IG is the one that did that box. It's super clean! Looked at that car a little closer here: ruclips.net/video/QtB19KwOL6w/видео.htmlsi=3y0KXW3VB_00QRnN&t=736
ever consider doing more basics/tutorials? I won't tell you how long it took for me to understand the power was split between the voice coils;; ex: thought a 300w dvc speaker could take 300w on a single coil or split between both, the coils were just to run in series/parallel to get the ohm draw and therefore the wattage you want out of the amp. Always a pleasure to get a new video from you man, take care and keep having fun out there
I definitely want to do more of those type of videos! I’m trying to balance tutorials/concepts type videos, reviews, events, and build updates, so I’m still figuring out the best way to incorporate everything. But yea I definitely plan on doing more educational type content! Thanks for reminding me! And thanks for checking out the videos and leaving suggestions.
@@DaBadNewz I got a question, maybe its crazy, but you see a lot of things at comps ... are people doing sets of subs dedicated to specific sections of frequencies? say a 32" doing subsonics, couple 18"s doing 20-30Hz, 12"s doing 30-40; and so on? thanks for replying and being a good hearted human out there and spreading love in the community/world; greatly appreciated. Even if I'm having a bad day; if I click I won't bring that with me, you don't deserve it, otherwise I'll wait til later. Trying to get motivated to work on my project; hesitant to add the amp, cap, sub without having the money to do any dampening and already noticed a little bit of rattle with the stock system. If I had any talent I'd attempt to record before and after any part of the mod/install lol can't wait to see the channel continue to grow, love seeing genuine people succeed
Awesome content! Can you explain the window up on the passenger side versus driver window up and passenger down? I thought when you demo for someone you put their window down & when you demo by yourself then you only put driver side down. So I figured if the meter is on the passenger side you put that window down.
Thanks! That's actually a really great topic for a video! The short answer is that you want the meter to be at the place where the waves are converging the most (and therefore at their loudest), which is in a more enclosed space. For demos you want pure wind most of the time, and the velocity of the air is just higher where there is a port/window. There's a lot of technical sciency shit behind it, that I am nowhere near qualified to talk about, but that's the basic idea. The best thing is to just play a tone and try shit out, because what works best in one car/build might not necessarily be the best thing in another car/build. You can see during Clay's run (around 6:05), he actually opens his door during his run to watch the SPL meter change in real time.
I REALLY want to start traveling out to meets and competitions, and Oregon would be a great first step! (I’ve only ever driven straight through other than a night in Grants Pass). Unfortunately I work almost exclusively on the weekends, so making it to events is tough without a pretty advanced warning (I’m working both of those days already). Is there an organizer up there I can follow on IG to learn about upcoming events? Btw, I really appreciate that suggestion! I 100% plan on doing something like that eventually
lol nah not quite. I'm not really at that point where I can afford flying out to events just yet. I'm DEFINITELY trying to get there though! I'm hoping by this time next year I can at least hit the big ones.
For the power and cone area, that’s still pretty damn good! I wish I would have metered the Rockford setup I had in my first car (out in Hawaii actually!)…2 T2 12s on a 2500…mf SLAMMED
I feel that! I never thought I would compete, but I’m definitely glad to have experienced that side of car audio. It’s a whole other world! Thanks man!
I appreciate that! And I may have to take you up on that, I just need to figure out what I need to know next (I know there is a lot to learn, but I don't know what I don't know yet...ya know?) I'm definitely gonna be crowd sourcing some info pretty soon though, so thanks for making yourself a resource man. We need more of that!
Just gotta look around on FB Groups and IG. There are a few Basshead groups for the area that always mention whatever shows are going on. I find out from the San Diego Bassheads group facebook.com/groups/2021447841247267. They post about shows all the way to Fresno and Vegas, so there will probably be something useful. Yeah bro get a bass knob. You gotta play with it. With my car the front windows up rear window down. My backseat fold down but i leave the passage side up. It acts like a loading wall. My box is sideways a little to help my score. Bass wars has all kinds of classed. I complete in the cyclone trunk class. Just have fun and tune your system and learn it. Its really a science to it for real. Oh and try 35 to 36hz seal and outlaw 😊😊😊😊
Definitely! Trying to come up with the right idea for something custom. And yea man I really want to try metering a little lower just to see how I do. 145 is cool, but at 48?? I want it like…28. 18!! Yea man this build really aint nothing crazy, I just needed to know where it IS you know? Thanks for checking it out! Let me know what you meter when you run yours
If you check out a few of my past Bass Meet videos, you’ll see a trend among the nice custom builds, they were either DIY, one of the independent dude’s around town that do good work, or Ronnie’s Electronics in National City. Since I’m really big into DIY, I’ve never needed their services, but their builds speak for themselves. You can also check out the SD Bassheads Group on FB. Lots of info in there!
2:58 Why are there first gen tundras everywhere!!!! lol!!! 2 in one frame XD My system ejected the entire rear window assembly on my first gen, out in garage rn working on gluing it back in and bolting a slab of maple to the back wall to stiffen er up
Nice! I really wish I would have at least tried metering in the low 30s. If for nothing else than just to know. I feel like running at 48 and 49 was cheating lol
I remember my first comp I'm 2006 4 kicker l7 15s in 95 civic hatch on 4 zr 1000s 2 layers of dyamatt hit 156db at 30 hertz. But no windows down are allowed must be completely sealed up
Hahaha that makes WAY more sense than how I was doing it! Can’t believe I didn’t just do it that way! Thanks for the suggestion man, I’ll definitely be trying that next time
So on jacob viral chanel u can find one hcca 18splx doing high 157dbs at 17hx rt under 2 krms no wall 4dr truck um not to be a dick but ummmmm ya man get you 2 of those I dares ya lol ya man it's a fr thing check him out
Your alternator is fine. I run triple alts. Whenever i get in the lanes if they wont let me throttle lock at 2k rpm... My shit screams! Lol 😂 you can smell the rubber off of my belt it gets so bad. Only does it if i idle tho
Putting that belt under some STRESS! But yea I have since figured out it was fine anyway, i just knocked an RCA loose and it was making a funky connection
Bout 7.25 of air, bout 7.5 total. I was aiming for a tune of about 30 when I built it, and it looks like it landed about 38. But damn in a crx?! I bet that gets DOWN! Always loved those cars
@@DaBadNewz yeh 😂 it's pretty nasty. I've never meter it yet but rn I'm just running a jp 23 v2 on it . I have a new us 100hc to put on it. I wanted to be low watt . I have a new js 320 alt to put on it . I have a couple shorts of it on a Rockford 1200 . The car itself needs alot more work done . Nowhere near clean as your build 🤘🤝
Shiiit man we all know how that works! These builds take time (and money!) In that tight space of the CRX though, I know that bass is gonna fill the cabin easy! I'm only on 1500! And man it only looks clean on camera! That bitch dirty and got some funky lines in real life, but I appreciate you man!
I’m not exactly sure HOW it happened, but one of my RCAs going to my mids amp became loose. When I went to look at it, it basically fell off. I just squeezed it a bit with some pliers, put it back on, and it was back to clear sounding! Probably still need some better grounding, but I think it’s alright!
LOL I ain’t trippin! I just had fun finding out where I was at (and thankfully not being crazy low). I appreciate the encouragement though, we just getting started!
I'm not really doing anything special. Just a big sub, on the power it was made for, in a box that was designed around the manufacturer's recommendations. And several boxes of sound deadening doesn't hurt!
@@DaBadNewz I got 2 10 (kicker) and I think yours way louder 😭. Granted I’m only running an 500-600 watt setup. I want to install door speakers but I don’t know if I’m going to need an amp to get the most out of them
@Valid.4l yea I’m running an 18 on 1500 watts. It may only be 1 sub, but an 18 has more total cone area than 2 10s. And yea the power makes a difference! And tbh man, unless your stock speakers are damaged or just garbage, in my opinion, it usually doesn’t make sense to install speakers WITHOUT an amp. Especially once you start having some bass. You wanna get the most out of em, but you also need to keep up with those kickers! It’s definitely not a must, but if you put some power to em, I guarantee you will be happier than just running em off the head unit.
that American Bass on the Taramps in the blue Scion xB. It was Port Wars class though, so the sensor is actually IN the port. Still pretty damn impressive though!
@@johnkovich8874 I’m still learning myself man! And yea in most other categories it’s placed in the kick panel or on the windshield. (There are also categories where the mic is outside the car). Thanks for checking it out!
What's your setup? I currently have 2 SSA ICON 12s in my 1971 Chevelle with a 240 JS Alternator and 2 runs of Sky High 0 gauge OFC to the back. I broke them in on a Kicker cxa1800.1t. Now I have an Orion HCCA 3000.1 and 2 30ah Limitless Lithium NoLi batteries and an XS Power SB500 34 supercap bank to install. I'm excited for the next level. I had the Kicker 1800 watt on a 12w7 in the high output enclosure before this too. 1800 at 1 and 2 ohms 1350 at the 3 ohms the w7 is.
For right now it's just a Fi BL18 on a Sundown SCV-1500. Under the hood is just a Mechman 240A and 1/0 big 4...still on the stock battery until I decide on a better power solution.
Aww man my system isn’t NEAR as well rounded as some of the other one’s (like Mark’s corolla!)…but I’ll definitely give em a try so I at least know where I stand now. Thanks for the suggestions!
@@DaBadNewz they just really rock ! ! ! Not a Db type music . Just sound really good ! That’s some songs I rocked in the 90’s Pantara Vulger display of power album as well ! I had Alpine, JBL & Fosgates
I ain't trying to be that guy for anyone; be careful with permanent hearing loss. I have it and I tried not to expose myself too much (but my cruise volume tends to creep towards 120 dB to this day and I get warnings from devices to stahp it) Don't be stupid like me; ensure you will hear people talk clearly when you get old, and if you don't want to hear a sea of crickets pulsing like you are in a forest of them most of the time ... limit your exposure, wear protection, yada yada, you are responsible adults, figure out what is safe for you (or its a video!)
Nah I don’t mind that at all man, that’s just looking out for people. And tbh, I definitely more than know better. I worked on aircraft in the military (where hearing protection is stressed really heavily), and am actually an audio engineer in my regular life. Which means my hobby is actually hazardous to my career, (but to be fair, my career itself is hazardous to my career, since I work a lot of live shows). I’ve even had to study how the ear works as part of my audio education! All that to say: you’re absolutely right! Being mindful of the long term consequences is definitely important! (And I like the video idea!)
I think for the final I ran 48. I ran 48 and 49 that day. Higher than I wanna be loud at, but I was just going for peak (which is still higher than I want, but it is what it is for now)
all good now u know u gotta do now to get lower hz .You built all your stuff man many dont have the know how or the time be proud my guy . isee you going futher in competition mode. bur with u learning u can help those who just want a system and show them proper electrical and bang with out getting big amps or in there budget @@DaBadNewz
@@slowbrezze I appreciate that man! And I really appreciate the fact that you can see what wasn't shown: the vision. That's all I wanna do man, make this shit accessible, but still cool. Around here, we love $30,000 builds the same we love $300 builds! It's just really for the love of the game. And yea I'm just getting started in these competitions...just watch!
First comp down, but definitely not the last! Feedback is always appreciated!
Thanks for checking this one out man!
i dont know everything but know a lot of things that may or not help,
1]both the subs and alternators use coils, as the coils heat up there power production drop, [this can be used to your benfit]
2] amps have caps and do indeed have a burst energy, sometimes substantially over the rms power with that being said turning your volume slowly deplete your capcitor capcity, so for loudest scores its best to pause the track turn the volume all the way up and then let it rip, this will ensure the max power to the sub, if your alt, and sub are cold and you have your engine rpm up it all works in conjunciton
3]amps output power is related to input voltage, people often mod alternators to 15 volts, this makes a noticable difference in power output
4] considered building a paraflex design, they are tapped horn designs that give you an additional 6-10 db. .
Heard a couple of these, but a couple were new! Thanks for the info!
Not sure how deep into competing I’m going to get, but I definitely plan on implementing some of the tips I’ve learned since posting this video.
Really appreciate the insight!
Good shit brah for your first time. Keep pushing it to the limit and learn as you go. Nobody was a pro straight from the rip
i like that you told us when the ads came lol
Trying to class it ip a lil bit you know? Thanks for that feedback though! I’ve actually been wondering if those were “landing”
Dude i watch a ton of car audio channels...your delivery and format comes across very clear and entertaining.Keep it up and to the moon brother with ur channel

Hahah sometimes they don’t play em. You got lucky!
hahaha that chick with the blue scion was at July's Bloomington's basswars.. she got first place with 163DB hahah... i even got a demo, it was right on the verge of hurting the ears...
Yea she takes that thing out to all the events! And yea man that build does some insane numbers for what it is! Completely blew my mind when she took Port Wars
Great job for the Win
I mean I wouldn’t call it a “win”….but I’ll take it! Thanks! Definitely hoping to try again and do a lil better in the future
Joshes truck the purple one dang bro that is one super build . I could only imagine hearing that blocks an blocks away .with some dj magic mic.
Yea man that thing was SERIOUS. I honestly dropped the ball on not checking that one out a lil more in depth when I had the chance. My mind was NOT in the usual space since I was competing (thank goodness not against him!)
I'm definitely gonna give it a proper walk around/build dissection next time I see it.
Oh Shit!!! Look who got that intro spot!! YEEE wait till you hear it next!!
Had to! That thing is such a monster! And definitely man! Can’t wait to hear it again
nice job. i just went to basswars in Bloomington in july for my first time and i got first place in bandit class with a 142 DB on 2 skar SDR 12s and a 1200.1 at 1ohm.

I appreciate this video because its informative and well put together. Good work bro!
@DaBadNewz I'm over here in east central indiana. Hr and half from the slamology show
Slam is 10000% on the list man!
Good shit!
Good job! Looking forward to see what you can do with the xB.
I appreciate that!! It’s still got a long way to go, so hopefully there’s plenty to see.
Thanks for the support man!
very quality video. i got two skar sdr 10s and they hit.... but these systems..... these systems.... are truly something else
The fuse itself is fine but the plastic underneath the fuse melts, happened twice and had to buy a new one
Thanks man! I’m trying!
As far as that fuse holder, I know that’s usually a loose/bad connection, but it’s hard to say from here. Be sure your power and ground wires can handle the power too.
It came out of nowhere?
First time channel viewer.... respect bro nice video.
Much respect to YOU for taking the chance on a new channel. I appreciate that man!
Badass commentary and video bro 🤙🏾

Even go a 4th or 6th order and do a sub 20 tune on a mid 30's tune on the chambers... my man you will blow way past 145 real fast :D
You obviously take pride in your installation, it's clean af bro.
And I mean it will play down to 26, but at probably like 130 or something lol
Thanks for checking out the video and adding some insight man! I honestly feel like I've learned more since I started making videos (than when I was just watching them), thanks to a dope ass basshead community leaving suggestions like that. Good lookin out!
What pages should I follow for local bass meets in California?
@DaBadNewz what's your box tuned at?
My first comp was back around 2000. I got 134db in a 97 firebird but I was doing sql
Been in the game for a minute! Those are great numbers, especially for SQL and the time period (from what I understand). I think that’s kinda my end goal for this build, full spectrum, loud, and clear.
I like that box, man! I'm still in the beginner phase of metered competitions myself. I've only ran 3 events so far lol. You've gained a new follower!

Oh man that participant trophy lol might as well hit the walk of shame
Hope this helps!?
waddup bro its Abraham. Dat shit did take a minute but it was worth it! nice meeting u bro bro

I might have to try and hit up a brand about a review video or something lol
It's only really expensive because I'm not trying to compete like that (at least not just yet)...but they definitely seem like a must have if you serious about SPL
Wow 👏 fantastic video! I would love to attend one of these events. Any upcoming meets?
Thanks! And yea they're a lot of fun! Even for spectators, it's cool seeing all the builds, and most of the owners are super happy to talk about their cars or give out demos.

If I had any talent I'd attempt to record before and after any part of the mod/install lol
can't wait to see the channel continue to grow, love seeing genuine people succeed
@zakuraayame5091 not quite that detailed for subs. The most I usually see is a larger sub for
Awesome content! Can you explain the window up on the passenger side versus driver window up and passenger down? I thought when you demo for someone you put their window down & when you demo by yourself then you only put driver side down. So I figured if the meter is on the passenger side you put that window down.
The difference is when you are going for SPL in the kick vs demo and hair tricks.

I ain't trying to be that guy for anyone;
be careful with permanent hearing loss. I have it and I tried not to expose myself too much (but my cruise volume tends to creep towards 120 dB to this day and I get warnings from devices to stahp it)
Don't be stupid like me; ensure you will hear people talk clearly when you get old, and if you don't want to hear a sea of crickets pulsing like you are in a forest of them most of the time ... limit your exposure, wear protection, yada yada, you are responsible adults, figure out what is safe for you
(or its a video!)
