@local You need 3 characters to fight the beast, two hirelings along with a playable character, go to the manage menu and hire some, level them up in fights (doubles or skirmishes), give them the right skills and equip them well, these can only be controlled by the AI, so it's risky to have them fight on their own.
Love you videos man, only tip I can give you is try moving your fights into a well lit place. You take a LOT of unnecessary damage due to not being able to see the fight taking place 😎👍
Animus is more soul while anima is more spirit / spiritual, so exanima could mean out of body or out of spirit. This game has almost a backrooms feel to it, sort of souls like too, like waking up in a dark maze with zombie type creatures... So I think the name of the game might be a reference or some kind of foreshadowing as if saying your guy is having an out of body experience or was possibly shifted to some kind of purgatory or alternate dimension.... Just my two cents.
Yeah tell that to the creator. Its actually just a tech sandbox to test mechanics for the devs other more fleshed out game. Don't hope it will evolve into anything. Its been in Beta for several years with hardly any updates.
Look for a glowing blue light, means it's a health potion! Sometimes they are in chests and containers. Stabbing weapons are quality goods, as well as anything you can dual weild. Also, the first barreltop shield you find is basically the best in the game, it has the best area. You can wear ladders as armor, best thing is usually a small bucket to wear on your head. Its alot of stuff to deal with as the game map is huge, and has multiple levels. Using chairs to trip enemies always works fine, even with the endgame enemies

This game is great but you have to fall in love with the fumbling combat to get good at it. If you don't like it at the onset you won't like it the further in you go. Couple of tips and notes: 1. In story mode, as you get knocked out, you lose a bit of your overall health that you can't recover unless you find the glowing blue potions which are very rare. 2. Story mode: You have to be very careful at avoiding damage until you finally find some decent metal armor to cover yourself with. After that point, it's more exploration than fear of death... until you come face to face with the dangerous enemies a lot further into the game. 3. Story: there's a helmet you should definitely try to grab in a certain level that gives you decent night vision, freeing up your offhand torch. 4. Combat: As you may have guessed, you may get damaged by either cuts, blunt, or mixed damage. You can always recover from blunt damage unless if you get knocked out in story mode (which takes a bit of your overall health). Cuts are dangerous and semi-permanent, on the other hand. Avoid at all costs until you get metal armor. At that point, it mostly glances off and converts to a bit of blunt damage. 5. Arena combat: I would personally go for the longer weapons because controlling the range is key in this game. When you catch the enemy with the swinging end of your rod or billhook, you deliver a lot of satisfying damage. 6. Blunt or cuts for killing enemies? Doesn't matter unless if the enemy is wearing decent armor. So blunt is usually the best bet. Weapon quality is more important. Comfort, speed and reliability with any given weapon is most important. Bonus combat tips: 1. Get comfortable with minimal dodges. If you take a giant step back, you (and the enemy) will overcompensate trying to get close and end up hugging each other. Unless if you are a master at swinging against the back of your enemy, you shouldn't fall for this. 2. Although I wouldn't try to confuse newbies with more advanced moves, intermediates should experiment with crouching attacks (C key). If you don't end up face planting mid swing, you can catch the enemy's legs and do a small but somewhat reliable damage. The enemy AI had somewhat of a blind spot for this angle of attack. But beware that you may leave your head open. 3. Although HEMA instructors may roll their eyes at this telegraphing, you may move your cursor outward from your opponent, then back into them with speed to add more damage into your attack. This is more of a fancy trick though. Most of your brain cells should be focused on range management. 3. Once in a blue moon, the enemy may trip and face plant into the dirt (possibly due to your clever placement of obstacles). If you don't double click at that moment to perform a downward strike, you'll miss the golden opportunity for a free hit. 3. I'm not gonna say thrusts are trash...but I'm trash at them. The enemy is sidestepping all the time so it's hard to catch them. I'm guessing there's a way to bait the enemy movement and stab them but I'd rather stick to swinging.
Not sure if the AI is still vulnerable in the same way that it was but you can faceroll most enemies 1v1 with headshot pokes, I've found the best timing is typically as you step back to avoid swings.
@someguyontheinternet dotcom Yeah, I've heard of that and probably tried it out a bit but since I haven't gotten consistent results with it, it may be more of an advanced move. I should actually try it once the enemies are downed. Not for the damage (since you can stun lock and keep them on the ground for however many strikes you need) It may even correct the swing so it doesn't hit the ground when you're too close to them.
Please more of this game, glad I found your channel in the pandemic, your vids are cool and by extension so are you :) Stay safe and thanks for the content
The first thing is footwork and orientation. It may seem obvious but it is a huge factor in everything you can accomplish. In combat mode you side strafe in a radius around the relative position of the cursor, this means that the proximity of the cursor to your character increases or decreases the angle of arc. Additionally you side step in a larger stride than stepping forwards or backwards so unless you are moving diagonally or micro-adjusting distance you won't really be using 'W' or 'S' as much as 'A' or 'D' with the exception of thrusting weapons. With this information you must experiment: WASD X Cursor placement = infinite possibilities. A few pointers are: - You should be closing or opening distance via putting the cursor off to the side so you are sidestepping towards or away from your opponent, this will always be faster than them - The enemy attack and your attack needs velocity so closing in on your enemy as they wind up negates the damage as you are being hit at the fulcrum where the least velocity exists. - Your side step starts slow, picks up speed, then slows down, time this with an enemy's horizontal attack moving in the same direction to negate the damage by canceling out the velocity difference by matching the speed. - You can also combine the previous point with placing the cursor in various places in close proximity to your character in order to wheel around your enemy with a horizontal that hits them in the back. - If your back is to the wall, instinctively sidestep in to the enemy to negate danger and wheel around to get free. The direction you are facing as you sidestep in should be relevant to blocking as you come in or to planning your next attack. - You must also pay attention to which weapons are positioned in what way as you move in these ways, pole arms and dual wielded weapons create a great geometry to tangle enemy weapons while moving. - Generally if you are wheeling to the right you want the cursor to be just to the left of the space between you and the enemy and vice versa, this makes for the best defense and sets you up at a good offensive angle with your foe in an awkward position. - Dodging and velocity mitigation are your main form of defense and the auto block should be seen as a contingency only (along with armor). - It is totally within your control where, if, and how hard you get hit!!! There is other stuff but I can only call up so much and I don't know how to make a steam guide. ********************************************************************************** ...On to offense. - Generally You are using horizontal and thrusts, overheads are pretty situational and specific in application and can also be a little weird to aim with some weapons. - If you are just holding click you will do a weaker yet quicker attack which can combo which is good for fooling the foe, miss with the first attack to hit with the second. - if you are moving the mouse for a large swinging attack, wind up and swing the cursor to the point that the cursor ends up on the enemy's body in the place you want to hit!!! Moving the cursor past the enemy will make for a higher velocity attack but will probably miss. - The cursor position dictates position AND height of attacks!!! - This is also true for thrusts, aim for the exposed part, Head, Torso, Legs, Feet, at least one is usually exposed, - There are 3 Thrusts, thrusts stepping in, standing and moving back. The first for damage, the second to get a reflex reaction, the third to create distance. - When you have a longer weapon and fight against a shield, crouch and swing from left to right as you step forward, the foe cannot reach that leg with their shield. - you should probable map crouch to space bar or something comfortable and easy to remember since it won't be used often, especially since you can fall more easily when crouching. ********************************************************************************** In terms of Arena: Start with the staff or hook, stick to wide swung single attacks on the enemy in a right to left horizontal, keeping distance, this will get you to aspirant. As soon as you have aspirant get the pitchfork. The pitchfork is the great equalizer among classes. This is because its length is high for its aspirant class, has good geometry for blocking, the prongs can go around thin shields and weapons to get the forearm, and good mass for thrusts and surprisingly for horizontals. - Stick to thrusting most of the time aiming for weak or undefended points - Horizontals to open the enemy up, punish them for getting close, or a quick horizontal as you wheel around - You can even initiate a thrust when you are too close to the enemy, place your fork at his waistline, touching the foe before the push, then step in with the push, this can knock the enemy onto their back making them vulnerable to a deadly low aimed thrust. - accept fights with any class in the hyphenated categories, that allow you to for faster xp. You have the pitchfork so you really don't need any armor if you want to save up money. - taking some damage is OK as long as you don't every fight, You character will heal a bit post fight so you can just keep going. - Taking that into consideration, fighting an aspirant or inept challenger is like a health potion because it is fast and low risk. - only a master with high armor AND longsword are dangerous to you, This is because their high armor makes them more confidant and your thrusts wont deter them. Ultimately this means that in this instance the longsword outclasses you in every way. Best just to forfeit this instance. - everyone else is defeatable following above advice with practice. - Do elimination matches against higher ranks!!! Even though you don't keep the items you loot, you DO keep the items you loot into the next rounds of an elimination match AND your class restrictions don't count here so you can turn yourself into an armored pitchfork death machine!!! Very fast xp. - ITS ALL ABOUT WHEELING Wheeling to the right (or to the enemy left) with the pitchfork puts it in such a position that great for blocking geometry and puts you in a good form for offence. - You can also think of yourself as a bull tamer with you body as the red sheet and the weapon as the man who flanks the bull to stab it, it is hard to explain that specifically but generally standing still initiating a wind up and only moving when the swing begins can achieve this. - Because combat isn't exactly fast, the combat is almost like taking turns except some turns you both make a move and causing damage and being aggressive can cause the foe to skip their "turn". - The timing choices on taking turns before, during, during-but-later, or after the enemy attack is up to you and there are many possibilities. Your next goal is the halberd but you could also go for a right hand spear and left hand flanged mace in the mean time. When you get to master get the Halberd and dominate all with this jack of all trade pole arm that is essentially a better pitchfork, use this money to get the best gear and additional hires. With money you can start to theorize other builds and put them to the test, the flail really challenges typical blocking and dodging conventions. In fray matches you can quickly equip enemy armor and weapons, kill steal, cause foes to walk over a body and trip, and in the beginning walk backwards and no one will aggro to you. In the tavern arena you can hold ctrl in combat mode to be able to move smaller stuff like chairs in front of an enemy, good for thrusting when they have short weapons. Also getting them near a wall or outfacing corner may cause them to get their weapon caught on it. Lastly, in practice mode, when you move to the next stage, try seeing how long you can survive by moving WASD, moving the cursor, but not attacking at all, that is really good practice. Good luck!
I kid you not, just a few days ago I was thinking “I sure would enjoy seeing the frog play Exanima.” Well, the Frog must have sensed these thoughts with his drum-like facial decorations and the Frog - well, the Frog never disappoints.
The trick to blocking long weapons is to face the part of the weapon that's going to hit you, not the wielder. You have to be pretty active with the mouse. Also, try not to move the camera more than you have to; it's better to get used to fighting at weird camera angles than to constantly manage it, and you can move much more fluidly.
You’re doing it all wrong, you only use your keyboard to move when in fight mode. When exploring its best to use your mouse to move trust me, I’m better than you
@@Coolinjay04 he’s really bad at paying attention. And he isn’t curious enough to click on everything in the room. When he learned how to fight and loot. You know that swinging with your mouse increase the speed and damage you deal to opponent? Also, basically any weapon that increases your reach is better in the game, because you can add damage and speed with movement of your mouse. Third hint, if someone moves into your reach with short weapon dont move into the hit - it will end with a hug and no damage. Applying movement of mouse you can one hit most of low difficulty enemies with two handed axe, hammer or polearm with swinging end. Fourth hint, you do damage with sharp end, not with the shaft of a weapon.
Sir Deamon/Troll has been a problem in my game. Because I decided to keep Derrin alive at all cost, so I piled all the garbage I found in the level next the door where the monster was, leaving just enough space to open the door to swing my poleaxe overhead, I first possessed skeletons around to weaken him, and ran to the door barricade. It was flawless. 5 swings of poleaxe and the beast was done... Derrin made it to the end! :) Sad I could not keep my own grey man zombie servant (the dudes of the lvl 5 with 2 swords) as he was aggroing on Derrin randomly.
i'd recommend using a small size character if you want to go for unarmed brawler, he is harder to hit and can punch under shields, only your head is more vulnerable to attacks

This teached me to always have a spare one around since this happened on a saturday evening and with stores closed on sunday.. Fun weekend -.- Guess i look into it again. :)
The staff is the best weapon in my opinion. I suggest trying it out, you might be good with it. You always have two as an option when you make you're character. Double click on both on them and compare stats to decide which is best to use. But I think both are pretty swell. Just swell
I love this game! It's clumsy and werid and interesting and ... and I love it. I just did a play through and didn't know all the new stuff added like the magic. I remember being terrible at combat and this time I was oddly a beast, but I don't think the devs made the game any easier. I guess it's like riding a bicycle.
I only have played the arena on this game and it is just too hard to quickly have fun since the while game is perma death besides practice but in practice there isn’t multiple enemies or many different weapons

- You can even initiate a thrust when you are too close to the enemy, place your fork at his waistline, touching the foe before the push, then step in with the push, this can knock the enemy onto their back making them vulnerable to a deadly low aimed thrust.
- ITS ALL ABOUT WHEELING
Wheeling to the right (or to the enemy left) with the pitchfork puts it in such a position that great for blocking geometry and puts you in a good form for offence.
I love this game and there is so much potential would love to see more!
With a good two handed weapon, (especially a polearm or sword) most enemies are real easy to beat, even the uh, nasty nonhumans.
You’re doing it all wrong, you only use your keyboard to move when in fight mode. When exploring its best to use your mouse to move trust me, I’m better than you
you didn't do the tutorial did you...... well, it was hilarious nway.
I had no idea you played this game!! This game really deserves more attention!
Do you have discord? 😍😍😍 Snapchat even? X
As much as I love exanima and your content...you..should never touch this game again.
Why wouldn’t he?
@@Coolinjay04 he’s really bad at paying attention. And he isn’t curious enough to click on everything in the room. When he learned how to fight and loot. He didn’t even go back to see what the first guy had on his body or kill the other guys. I was losing my mind watching him play this. But I still love him and watch every video. I’ll just continue to watch the pre edited vids. IMO
Wow this game looks awesome. I went and bought it once I saw you fall down the pit.
Man, I’m so glad some one is actually playing this game. So frustrating but it has so much charm
"What did I do, did I key her car or something?" made me giggle like a child for like 5 minutes
Love this game and would watch every video of it
PLEASE DO MORE EXANIMA!!!!
this game brings me back to playing Baulders Gate Dark Alliance for the ps2
For sure
You know that swinging with your mouse increase the speed and damage you deal to opponent? Also, basically any weapon that increases your reach is better in the game, because you can add damage and speed with movement of your mouse. Third hint, if someone moves into your reach with short weapon dont move into the hit - it will end with a hug and no damage. Applying movement of mouse you can one hit most of low difficulty enemies with two handed axe, hammer or polearm with swinging end. Fourth hint, you do damage with sharp end, not with the shaft of a weapon.
One of my favorite games with such an interesting concept
21:22 Remember this game is a Zoro simulator you are always lost
Ahhhh yess!!
shame that he didn't meet Daryn. good lad to talk to.
Just from watching this game it seems like an actual fight where proper ranging is important
Examina is an awesome game. I think everyone should buy it and try it. Just keep in mind it has a learning curve.
My man Eren lost his power and now crawling in a dungeon
omfg yes i just started playing again too
Omg I just saw this in my feed, hell yes. This gon' be gud
Become a pitchfork chad today!
Man. You playing this game reminded me of my first pc game i played at 7 or 8 yrs old...
So i bought FATE on steam today.
"Oh, here's a chest!"
- walks by it without clicking on it.
Dude...
Blue flashing cross = learn new spell
Yellow flashing cross = learn new skill
Took me forever to figure this out
Painful to watch
I love this gameeee
I love that you my poetic RUclipsr have found a game I so dearly love
~30:00 I don't want anyone to see this, *leaves the door open he cam in from* XD
this is amazing
i'd recommend using a small size character if you want to go for unarmed brawler, he is harder to hit and can punch under shields, only your head is more vulnerable to attacks
love this
Complains about being killed by two handed longer range weapons
Doesn't even attempt to try to use one himself
If he keeps accidentally clotheslining people with the meat cleaver, I doubt he'll have good luck spacing with something like a Dane axe..
spend more time on this dude, its worth it after the learning curve
Wasnt the yellow health your health and everytime you died you lost max health
how did Ross from Accursed Games get his own char in a game
The prophesied day has come! Rejoice
I think blue means passive until attacked
Wow. I totally forgot about Exanima (last played May 2015). Was the first game i wrote a (very short) review about because it was the first time i raged quit a game so hard, i broke my mouse. This teached me to always have a spare one around since this happened on a saturday evening and with stores closed on sunday.. Fun weekend -.-
Guess i look into it again. :)
Wait- they're still workin on this game?
The staff is the best weapon in my opinion. I suggest trying it out, you might be good with it. You always have two as an option when you make you're character. Double click on both on them and compare stats to decide which is best to use. But I think both are pretty swell. Just swell
Bra, why did you choose Jesus as your character.
I love this game! It's clumsy and werid and interesting and ... and I love it. I just did a play through and didn't know all the new stuff added like the magic. I remember being terrible at combat and this time I was oddly a beast, but I don't think the devs made the game any easier. I guess it's like riding a bicycle.
eyyy
I only have played the arena on this game and it is just too hard to quickly have fun since the while game is perma death besides practice but in practice there isn’t multiple enemies or many different weapons
Your character is morbin, dude.
This game's movement looks so wonky. I can assure you that no one swings a weapon *that* clumsily.
As you level up and gain more exp your swings become firmer and less..."I just woke up naked"
Sleep i think i could fight better than that on 2 hours of sleep and a whole vodka bottle’s worth of hangover
@@jooot_6850 Yes, me too.
You need to do a collab with general sam
I think ladder armor is when you place the ladder over your head and your shoulders so that it acts to physically keep enemies away 😆
Reanu keaves is a bit skinny XD
Never wear armor off a corpse. It obviously didn't do them any good. :D
I fergot this game existed and also this vid alone took me out of a madness I was delved into by my covid shot.
"Not dodging is worse then dodging"
nice I am playing it at the moment
WoooooHoooo you diud it! TYTYTY!!
This is what looks like Keanu Reeves stuck in the dark evil dungeon.
Dude this had me on my toes
I forgot this game even existed! Love to see it getting some attention again, its such an entertaining game to watch
