For the manual priorities, I tend to have 1s only for firefighting, patient and doctors (for those with high medical). If I suddenly needed whatever task at utmost priority I'll set that to 1, and it will still be top priority unless there's literally a fire or someone is seriously injured. That seems like a good setting to me. That's why I have 1s anyway. But yes, I agree that I see most people have too many 1s.

Hearing AA saying "pila" a lot of times knowing it's the latin word for a throwing spear but the portuguese word for "d*ck" made me laugh more than it should...
Relating to the butcher table bit, I think one of my favorite things in Rimworld is to place a weak column outside of the colony and let the pawns build roofing around it. Raiders take them down and get hurt/killed by the collapse.
Patient at #1 position is a must for my playthroughs. If you have a large battle sometimes you may not notice a small bleed on a pawn. They may go off and do some plant grooming until they pass out or die if you don't catch it.
Hey AA! Just wanted to say something a little less known, but in places closer to the poles where the amount of yearly sunlight changes drastically, it can get really hot in the summers, as the sun only sets for a few hours, or not at all! It really heats things up more than you'd think.
Also don't know if anyone brought it up, but since you're southern hemisphere the seasons are flipped from the northern hemisphere! So Decembary is their summer.
I wanna point out something about the manual priorities thing when he was talking about never putting 1s unless it's a something you really need them to do immediately fire fighting and patient are almost always a good idea to put at 1 so that your colonist don't say craft a tshirt while your entire building burns down around him or let themselves bleed out while out in the feild sowing crops

1:04:40 imo if there are children or ship survivors with an extremly high cronological age but low physical age, it's usually because since they have been in cryosleep for so long because the planets are so far apart from one another, the question on to how they go to the bathroom in the cryopods is still a mystery though

You mentioned the Loreplays video on basebuilding, I watched that as well and I think it really helped with my base design for both aesthetics and efficiency.
Patient & Bed rest should always be 1, while if its a doctor he also should be on a 1, then you're doctors will go to bed if their hurt and only get up from bed to tend wounds, if there is something that need prio, like cutting plants, you put a 1 on that category for every1 and since they rarely tend wounds or lay in bed to rest you're "important" stuff you've marked gets done in an instant, and you never have to worry about people not tending to each others etc, personally I also prefer Basic and Firefighting to be on a 1 also
I am also bad with animals. I feel like everyone else is covering the mechs or vampires, I'm so glad to see my favorite rimworld player covering what I was most looking forward to in the new DLC.
I've made an awesome mechanitor colony that is completely self sufficient. Its so cool to be able to leave your base for a second and to be able to come back to it being fully stocked and functional. I can even rely on my defenses to keep out everyone without any sort of intervening.
Bedrooms are actually a standard target for raiders. Some people cheese it by having the people sleep on the floor and setting up sleeping spots outside the base when they are raided. So raiders reach the bedrooms and sappers don't do anything
I usually set Firefight to 1 because if something is on fire, you want everyone to drop everything and put that shit out. Especially if you're early game and living in wooden houses.
So I'm watching this, I watched the artic and desert runs. And I gotta say I'm jealous of your planning capabilities. I'm 250 hours into rimworld and I'd say only had one properly made base that made it to endgame, and I'll be honest that was pure luck. Everything else is literally throwing stuff down as I need and praying. Your videos are teaching me how to base properly
Oled tips if you see this and still looking. I've been running a LG CX since it launched for a pc only screen no burn in or any issues. Hide your task bar constantly and no desktop icons even the recycle bin just pin it to your file explorer quick menu. Have a moving background as your desktop constantly, wallpaper engine is your friend. Make sure you set up a set of slowly rotating set of wallpapers basically any static things are your enemy. Don't worry about Fullscreen games you need stuff stuck in the same location for hours upon hours, so a game session isn't an issue. If your USA bound the only warranty that covers burn in is Best Buys warranty, no other warranty will touch burn in even LG, but they are known to bend over for customers it's just not guaranteed. Other than that, I keep my browser muted colors and apps other than games/media not Fullscreen, so my moving background is poking through around the sides.
Thanks for that - using mine for video editing, recording and streaming, so I may use another monitor for more of the static elements. Needed the bigger monitor since adobe premiere needs a LOT of screen real estate. Actually just got a defective one and had to replace it lol. Mine's thru Amazon tho I'll take your word for it on the next one :) Can't tell you how much I appreciate it - it's far too nice for me and giving me a lot of anxiety to use it lol
About the pilum weapon - this thing is weird in the context of RimWorld. It's basically just a javelin, but by design it's supposed to be used against hand shields, to pierce them and make them unwieldy (because of the length and weight of the pilum, and the tip geometry that makes it not easy to pull it out of the shield), practically robbing the opponent of his shield if it's pierced by a throw, even without damaging the owner if he manages to dodge the piercing. But there are no hand shields in the game, at all! If you want to know more: plural variant of said weapon is a singular word for Russian "пила" [pʲɪˈla] with accent on "a" instead of "i", and that will be some saw.
I usually will grow grass or long grass in the pens after a bit and the hay outside. Otherwise they eat the hay grass before its ready. I guess nutrient paste meals are supposed to be pretty efficient too.
Medieval Vampires. That'll be my next colony after I'm done with my current one. I was waiting for your videos on this and excited to see how you handle the DLC.
@teebles Never said it'd be easy. I'd have to look more into how they work. I went with a Mech/Military focused colony for my first one, so I've completed avoided all the Vamp stuff. Once I learn more, I'll find a way.
i've always thought that firefighting, and bedrest should be a 1, and doctor should be a 1 where applicable, then i will do the 2s and 3s, ive had fires go unattended without that setup
In my experience so far, age 7 and 10 are when kids start to become useful and start to help with the work around the base. The best chef in my newest colony was born in the first year and is already at 9 cooking at age 8. On the birth thing, it takes about 20 days in game for a pregnancy to go full-term and the birth to happen.
19:20 ish? The most important tasks are already to the left - If you have your dedicated cook and gardener set to Priority 1 Cook, Grow, and Plant cut, there's really nothing beyond those that can supersede them in importance. If you never use Priority 1, then your Priority 2 is fulfilling exactly the same role. If you need a character to go rest, doctor, or firefight, you can set them to Priority 1, and yes, it would be done before Priority-2 tasks, but it'll also be done before just about any other Priority-1 task. I can happily keep my Miner/Construction character on Priority-1 Mine and Construct because there's little to the right of that that they could be doing. If I suddenly need a colonist to go haul or clean rather than do whatever they were meant to do, then I guess leaving Priority-1 open would be wise? Even then, I can set their normal tasks to Priority-2 temporarily, which is effectively what you have your colonists at all the time.
i realize this colony was ended already lol but you can deselect count equipped and just do “until you have 1” w/ the condition criteria, then you dont have to update with new colonists. great video, ive only just atarted watching you streamed content and its always good to have more AA!
The main reason i set peoples priorities to 1 instead of keeping 2 as a baseline is that I never actually bother making everyone do something. That’s not really a reason why I set things to 1, as much as it is a reason why I don’t avoid setting things to 1, but otherwise it’s just because I like seeing the distinct color of a 1 at a glance on the menu.
Firefight, Patient and Basic at 1. that way when they have no task or a fire breaks out of their are injured, they automatically do these things. no one is idle
@panic But that's why I just have a storage room. Since no one spends any significant time inside, beauty is pretty much a non factor is all. I get it for immersion I guess. But I think the only thing I've ever put on a shelf are mortar shells.
I think pigs are efficient for just meat production. you also get pigskin, but I'm not sure how good pigskin is, although it is sort of different and sort of rare, I guess. I think that Alpacas are under-rated because you get wool, you also can get camelhide, you get meat, and you can use them for caravans. In my opinion, that is enough advantages if you intend to do any traveling or even just a lot of trading. I think their wool is also the superior wool for arctic playthroughs, but I am not 100% on that.
I'm really enjoying this DLC, not having to capture wonders and visitors so much and it seems like the colony evolves more naturally now. This DLC should have been in the base game in my opinion. I harvest ovum as often as I can as well as natural births, so now I have a nice stock of future colonists. Tip, if you are just starting a run don't make all your colonists baseliners. I have a nice colony running now but for anything interesting I have to trade for the genes as baseliners only have hair and skin colour genes.
"who would choose (bad trait)" If you don't have them age up on a high growth tier, you'd have to choose among less traits, and as a result, might well be forced to take a bad trait.
I think it's incredible despite me only having 80 hours with this game. That I was able to put together that age 16 equals a normal aging adult. Because I was often raided by such adults. I'm not sure what age selects the adult profession.
Im currently having fun with my mechanist playthrough of a man who wants to create a perfect society of like minded individuals, but those are hard to to find on the rim so hes genetical cloning them out of gestation pods. im also roleplaying as he doesn't want to damage his precious mechs so he cloned a army of sort lived clones as a first line of defense before sending in his more expensive lancers and scythes.
23:22 If it's not completely random, which I'd doubt, you did get 4 bad traits out of 6, with Psychically hypersensitive being neutral. I think you're right in that a better childhood, complete with appropriate teaching materials, cleanliness, and home design, probably nets you with better choices.

I guess nutrient paste meals are supposed to be pretty efficient too.
this is my favorite content to watch while playing rimworld :)
Every time I see you playing rim world I end up putting in another 10 hours
Medieval Vampires. That'll be my next colony after I'm done with my current one. I was waiting for your videos on this and excited to see how you handle the DLC.
@teebles Never said it'd be easy. I'd have to look more into how they work. I went with a Mech/Military focused colony for my first one, so I've completed avoided all the Vamp stuff. Once I learn more, I'll find a way.
Theres a medieval deathrest mod now.
i've always thought that firefighting, and bedrest should be a 1, and doctor should be a 1 where applicable, then i will do the 2s and 3s, ive had fires go unattended without that setup
Hot Take: if you give a cow too much room somethin bad's gonna happen.
I just hope in the future there will be more interaction between the DLCs themselves, especially with the Biotech and ideology DLC
You can prevent animals running off by putting a caravan spot down. (Unless they changed that in this expansion)
Awwm I remember LorePlays. She was cool, thought though kinda medieval/fantasy for my tastes. She was cool, sad that she's gone!
What happened to her?
i realize this colony was ended already lol but you can deselect count equipped and just do “until you have 1” w/ the condition criteria, then you dont have to update with new colonists. great video, ive only just atarted watching you streamed content and its always good to have more AA!
AA: "I used to be a teacher."
Also AA: "When did the babies arm get shot off?!"
This really makes me want to do a “lord of the flies” play through . Start a bunch of kids in the jungle.
Arctic wolf hunting scorpion. Gets shot. Arctic wolf revenge ... well, YOU started it, wolf! What did you expect to happen? 😅
Thanks for uploading ;), wanted to watch the start
I love that AA missed that it was summer for like 2 hours even though it says the season in the bottom right, classic AA
What I found hysterical is that aa is not aware of the fact that the southern hemisphere has summer in december.
Firefight, Patient and Basic at 1. that way when they have no task or a fire breaks out of their are injured, they automatically do these things. no one is idle
"it's nice to see it's not automatically weapons too"
Me, a person that only ever saw a use for shelves that involved weapons: I disagree.
@panic But that's why I just have a storage room. Since no one spends any significant time inside, beauty is pretty much a non factor is all. I get it for immersion I guess. But I think the only thing I've ever put on a shelf are mortar shells.
Grasshopper is a Tribal video gamer and a cannibal to boot. Easy to see where Cambiar learned picked it up
I think pigs are efficient for just meat production. you also get pigskin, but I'm not sure how good pigskin is, although it is sort of different and sort of rare, I guess.
I don't see any way RimWorld won't get banned again in Australia, or at least this DLC. xD
Poor AU. Hat-tip to my fam. on the west coast.
"who would choose (bad trait)"
If you don't have them age up on a high growth tier, you'd have to choose among less traits, and as a result, might well be forced to take a bad trait.
I think it's incredible despite me only having 80 hours with this game. That I was able to put together that age 16 equals a normal aging adult. Because I was often raided by such adults. I'm not sure what age selects the adult profession.
Finally, Children of the Corn in Rimworld.
How amusing. Orange and Cambiar both end up on ice sheets as cannibals.
23:22 If it's not completely random, which I'd doubt, you did get 4 bad traits out of 6, with Psychically hypersensitive being neutral. I think you're right in that a better childhood, complete with appropriate teaching materials, cleanliness, and home design, probably nets you with better choices.
Enjoyed your new video on the void expansion in rim world, please make more like this👍🏼
