  • Why is our society suddenly pretending like being obese is perfectly healthy in order to avoid hurting people’s feelings? Today, I’m joined by RUclipsr Alex Pierce, also known as HRH Collection, to watch TikToks promoting the “body positivity” or “fat acceptance” movement and give our honest reactions.

People should be ashamed if they were cruel, if they stole something, hurt someone, lied etc, etc.
In the case of being fat, I don't know if shame is needed, but those who promote it as a healthy way of life should definitely feel ashamed because even if they are trying to be kind they are sending people to early graves.
Being fat is unhealthy. It just is. Same as smoking, drinking excessively, or being a total slut who sleeps with everyone and anyone. These things should be stigmatized, but that doesn't mean the people are bad or are worthless, they often suffer from addictions and need help. BUT that does not mean they should be praised and celebrated.

Oh my sweet dear!! This absolutely this is why I am furious with Jordan Peterson over his tweet about the Sports Illustrated cover. I don't expect anyone to change their preference for me because there have always been men who've been attracted to me. I don't care!! What took me years was to accept myself whether or not I managed to loose my poochie belly or not. I've had some health issues and I've had to double down on eating better and moving more. Still not moving the scale much but my mood is better. The point is I had to change the inside before I could work on the outside. Focus on the beauty you are and be gentle with her. That's been a big thing for me, learning to be gentle with myself. Also, food is medicine and I have to work around my ADD and not against it. If I straight up deny myself something, it's all I want, however I give myself permission and then ask myself do I really want it? No? Ok, cool. Or, yeah? Ok go ahead. I feel I have a much healthier relationship with food than a lot of thinner people, they just have much better metabolisms. If we have donuts at work, I'll cut one in half or just eat a quarter cause then I get to enjoy the taste and texture without adding to much junk to my diet, but I'm not feeling upset or deprived. I struggle with low energy a lot but moving helps except I have a desk job and that hurts. I try little hacks all the time and I mix them up. I do what I can and I stop criticizing myself for what I can't. I hope you find your balance, I've had a lot of success with affirmations and mantras, repeating them until I believed them. Thank you for speaking up about judging without true knowledge.

Our foods are highly processed and full of toxic ingredients that cause illneses in the body that can cause or contribute to obesity, such as seed oils, and high fructose corn syrup to name just a couple. Our pharmaceutical industry doesn't help matters any either as many medications interfere with ournatural metabolism.. Not to mention, the part of our culture that does finally speak to try to impact for increased health with regards to metabolic issues is relatively ill informed. Medical practitioners still recommended caloric restriction, low fat diets, and exercise as THE way to lose weight, not taking into account how this negatively affects many if not most trying to lose weight. Ok I was with you… until you said that the only reason people are fat is because they’re lazy. Because that is not completely true. I am fat, I work out, I’ve actually lost 85lbs since last year. I had gained so much weight a few years ago because of a couple of different medications I was put on for being misdiagnosed from a pill pushing doctor. I gained 100lbs in about 6-7 months. It ended up causing more issues than the weight gain, I’ve actually had a lot of dental issues due to the side effects of it as well and recently had to have 2 teeth pulled and need several more fillings and procedures. I’ve always had perfect teeth besides needing braces when I was younger. The medicine actually caused me to develop tremors in my hands but it also caused me to gain weight like crazy. Still worked out 4-5 x a week for an hour and a half at the minimum usually for longer. Ate typically what I was before and tried to eat healthier by cutting out unnecessary things like processed sugars and high sodium and calorie filled foods. When I was taken off it I was able to start losing it faster than I was and actually felt a whole lot better. When I was on the medication something was very wrong in my body. Even my friends and family noticed that I wasn’t myself and that I looked very sick. But it’s not always due to being lazy. People with thyroid issues have a hard time. Yes people need to be healthier and everything, I never expected people to be attracted to me, never expected special treatment and in fact was embarrassed But that opinion is a little ridiculous to say.

While I agree that of course people who are overweight should strive to be healthier and people shouldn’t enable them, I also believe shaming them or being just plain mean like the guest in this video is not acceptable. While people think shaming helps people want to lose weight, it rarely does. Instead it makes them feel so bad about theirselves that they either think there is no point in trying or turn to food in comfort because food in their comfort. It’s also not always laziness. Every person is different and many people have real problems with food that often stem from traumatic experiences. At the end of the day not our place to shame or judge them when we don’t know their whole story. It just doesn’t help. This world needs a lot more kindness. You don’t have to be overly kind to the point where all logic as to why being healthy is important is lost but you shouldn’t be rude and unkind either.

This is an identity problem. As humans, we put waaaay too much emphasis on the outer while ignoring the internal. I am not considered "fat" according to my doctor, friends, and family. But I have gained weight in the last few months and I feel very uncomfortable in my own skin. I don't like how the extra weight looks, I don't like the way my clothes fit, my energy is down, and my confidence is lower. SO...I've been using this season of my life to explore body image issues. And while I take full responsibility for my weight gain, fully acknowledge I need to make improvements in my eating and health habits, I also understand that WHO I AM is NOT my body. It is my soul, my energy, my character. My weight has fluctuated over the years, at times I've been thin and cute, at other times (especially after having 6 kids) I've been heavier and maybe a bit frumpy. But what hasn't changed is ME. It's like a car. When you first buy it brand new, it is pretty. But over time, it gets worn out, dents, dings, etc. But it still does it's job and you still appreciate it and take care of it. SO maybe we can stop fat shaming AND stop pretending like being obese is healthy. Focus less on the external and start helping people to heal internally. Connect to their soul, heal their mind...and the body will follow.

I told her that people are fat for many different reasons, overeating being the least likely reason for being overweight, but you're anorexic for one reason only. That's because you refuse to be nourished and shove your fingers down your throat. If I told you, "one more hamburger and your ass won't be able to fit through the door," that would be inappropriate and could possible get me fired. For some strange reason these people think that because you're skinny that their words don't hurt. THAT'S NOT OKAY!

I could agree that someone may have a medical issue that makes it hard to lose weight (very unlikely with most people who claim it), I could agree that someone has a medical issue that makes it hard to work out (true, more common, but most medical issues are benefited by working out - even when it's hard as hell to do so), but do not state the lie that being fat can be healthy. @@terrys.2342 not really to be honest there is a difference between fat and obese. Fat is a very generic word! And overweight person and an obese person are both called fat but scientifically the two terms are very different!!! Obese is someone who is at an extreme end of the scale of being unhealthy. While on the other hand an overweight person is just above the weight of an average person of that height! An overweight person can be overweight either because of their muscle mass or because of their fat mass or maybe even both!!! The studies you might have seen are very generic cause honestly and factually speaking if you do a detailed analysis one person who is overweight because of fat does not necessarily show signs of high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure and various other ailments that occur due to too much (fat) weight. Their is a high risk of attaining the above mentioned ailments and that I do not disagree but the notion of being overweight and healthy is not “IMPOSSIBLE” as u state (even if the probability is low it is not negligible)

We process and cope with negative emotions differently, we have different support systems, different attachments to food, different responses to diets and restrictions, different genetics.
You can call out stupidity and entitlement (like the first lady complaining that she felt uncomfortable when being 'touched' on the plane or the thin privilege topic), while still acknowledging that the comments fat people receive are hurtful and unnecessary.

As someone who is fat. I hate this movement. Being fat is unhealthy and the idea that someone wanting to not be fat or to lose weight being bad is rediculous and probably why this country has an all-time high of diabetes and heart disease. its stupid.

@Amala The problem with this video is that it is full to the brim of assumptions and absolutes. The language chosen in response to this issue is so small minded, and very dangerous. I am no 'snowflake', I'm a massive fan of PragerU, and am a Christian, but this video clearly shows the arrogance so many on the right have to this issue.
    1. to see an overweight person and to assume they have control over that, that they aren't suffering from a physical illness, and that 'losing weight' is an option is destructive to the core. My good friend is 350 lbs, suffers from a specific disease, and has anorexia because of comments like yours. She is a slave to yours and Alex's comments that tell her she isn't beautiful, that she is gross, and that all she needs to do is lose it and then she'll be happy. The small mindedness in this conversations brings me to tears because I advocate for conservative principles, which in my opinion is that ALL PEOPLE are beautiful, and that NOT all BEHAVIOR is beautiful. We do not glorify the unhealthy lifestyles people choose and celebrate those decisions, but to see an overweight person and to assume they make bad choices is just as bad as a woke person seeing a conservative and thinking they're alt-right racists. Some people can't be thin, and they need to be spoken to with respect, care, and empathy, and more importantly, told that they are beautiful with how God made them.
    2. My wife had anorexia and an eating disorder for 7 years. She lost her period for 7 years, was a slave to her body and to this culture that glorifies weight loss and diets because "being thin = happy". Based on this podcast, you believe it would be better that my wife stays a slave to her food rules and eats 300 calories a day, than have a normal eating habit free from cultural influence and be medically considered overweight? EVERY DAY I celebrate the fact that my wife has recovered, that she gained 80 lbs so that we can celebrate the birth of our first child (which doctors said was impossible). I celebrate that she can look at a cookie and say "I can have this" rather than be afraid of it.
Those are the two main points, but I have SO many more - the language you choose in this video, and these absolutes that if people are overweight than that means they are unhappy, lazy, and a burden on soceity (as per your comments about the individual on the plane). How about we live in a society that is selfLESS rather than selfISH and have a standard of healthy living/the behaviour (no matter the weight), and stop demonizing and honestly destroying individuals because of your comments.
These instagram stories spiralled my wife into negative thoughts about her body, about her weight, not because she needs to lose weight (that is the LAST thing she needs, to be enslaved back to her anorexia lifestyle), but because you both called her ugly and unhappy. It sickens me that this conversation is on PragerU and to see the comments anguishes me. Can there not be a middle ground, and ultimate love for one another? I'm not snowlake, I'm just somebody that cares for Truth and Love to coexist as Christ exemplified for us.
Please Please reconsider this message you are putting out. Feel free to reach out and I'm happy to have a more clear conversation about this, because I honestly pray you would have your eyes opened on this as the right is missing the mark, and this was an example of it.

What I find with most conservatives is that they only empathise with others if they have direct links to it. I fully agree with your stance but I find it weird coming from a stanch conservative seeing the entire premise of the party is to invalidate as well as strip minorities and womens rights. It’s very very prevalent on PragerU and this video. This video is one representation of how little conservatives generally think of others who don’t look like them. I’ve never in my life come across an empathetic conservative so this comment really shook me lol
Essentially my question is why do conservatives only rally behind causes that directly affects them or people they’re close to , meaning they understand what empathy and compassion is but they can’t for the life of see others who don’t look or act or feel or believe as they do as their equal with equal rights to live their lives without conservatives trying strip them of their human rights???
Not trying to argue and I do realise my comment probably comes across as very hostile but it’s a genuine question.

    • @JFulfy
      @JFulfy Год назад +2

@@YouWillGetThereBuddy I don't think it comes across as hostile -- I appreciate the comment -- but it honestly makes me sad that you've never come across an empathetic conservative. With that said, I will say I don't 'identify' as a conservative, because of it's faults (like this one). I identify as a Christian who votes conservative (because I believe Jesus is without faults: is perfect). To me there is a big difference - because as a Christian it's my duty to respond in love, grace, and care, and that isn't necessarily a responsibility as a conservative, because conservatives vote on principles and policies, not behaviour.
But with that said, I think the absolute isn't fair. 'Conservatives only rally...' isn't accurate to pretty much all people that vote conservative, that I surround myself with at least. I think that's more of a general perception error than an objective truth statement to all conservatives.
To your final point, I would love to know what you mean by stripping people of their rights? In most cases, the only party that I have witnessed that looks to remove actual rights from people would be the left - right to life, freedom of speech, right to bear arms, and the list goes on and on. The left can often think people have rights to a home, a job, healthcare, money from the government, to take an innocent life (abortion), etc. which are privileges that are better earned than given, or for the latter, not a right that should be given, given the constitution and moral ethic. Empathy and compassion, to your comment, is not only understood, but conservatives often have been the champions of acting on their empathy through charitable donations, pregnancy centers funding, homeless shelter volunteer work, foster care serving and the list is extensive. Look up church history and see the selflessness that has directly come from Christians and conservatives for the community.
I think your question may just be a difference of opinion, in that what you believe to be rights, aren't actual rights. And if you think they should be, than it's a free country and I wish you the best in advocating for that - but I believe the 'rights' the left push for, would cause more harm to a nation than benefit it. Because empathy is not the job for the government to give, it's the job of the people (analogy: a referee doesn't come to an injured players aid, he calls a foul and holds the rules/rights of the game, but the team members, family, friends, and medics come to the aid). Hence why conservatives typically believe in small government.
Of course this is a general statement that lacks depth given it's context (youtube comments), but I hope that at least provides some insights from a Christian that votes conservative. I'm conservative because I believe the principles and values typically uphold the highest/best standard for a nation/state/city/culture to thrive. It's then the peoples job to fill in the rest (as no system is perfect, and all systems demand people to be good, to love one another, and to be compassionate as we all have different lives, situations, and stories to tell).
Let me know if you have any other questions - as I know we will disagree on a lot (politically), and we don't need to go into a debate over such things, but if you're curious about perspective or compassion from the eyes of someone who votes conservative, I'm happy to be that for you.
      Cheers,

@@JFulfy Firstly, i believe that church has no place in government as history has shown us over and over and over again. Millions have died at the hands of religion being forced into governments. Seperation of church and state is an absolute necessity. No debate there. You can believe religion is perfect and all the power to you but involving it in politics is the reason many people have not only died but have been oppressed to this day. The oppression of women is rooted in religion. The oppression of lgbtq+ people are rooted in religion. The oppression of BIPOC people are rooted in religion. All systemic segration and oppressive laws in these categories have been rooted in religion. So that's the first point we definately disagree on.
Secondly, the rights I speak of are women's rights and lbgtq+ rights (that to this day is being debated and critisized by conservatives). As is blatantly evident in this womens content.
I believe that it is no governments right to dictate what anyone must do with their bodies. I believe that living women deserve more rights to their bodies then a corpse or clump of cells, so another thing we definately disagree on. Which is not currently the case. Women are not incubators treating them as such is so far in the right wing agenda its not even funny. It honestly makes me sick how little conservatives actually think of women. Literal second class citizens because we all know if men were the ones being forced to risk their lives for pregnancy we would not be debating if they deserve rights. Which is evident around the debate on mandatory vasectomies and male birth control.
Thirdly, yeah never in my life have I ever witnessed or interacted with an empathetic and compassionate conservative as most of the time they advocate for selfish laws and hate the idea that everyone deserves a right to livable way of life. Nobody should have to earn basic survival. Basic neccesities we need to survive such as health care, a livable minimum wage ect... Just to name a few. Christian conservatives are honestly the worst ones when it comes to these issues. So while I believe you mean well saying you're not a conservative but a Christian conservative because of your values, it doesn't really help your side much. Christian conservatives are usually the first to advocate for the stripping of people's basic human rights.
Fourth, I'm certain there are conservative christian organizations and charities that do good work for their people but the same can be said for non conservative organisations. I think the difference there though is that the left doesn't discriminate based on your beliefs or appearance. You will be helped regardless but there are too many Christian organisations that won't even consider helping people who don't subscribe to their religious beliefs. So I would trust non conservative organisations more.
Fifth, the rights you state the left are trying to strip aren't rights. Objectively they arent. By every metric, human life and standard of living should be more important then an 18 year old being able to purchase a gun.
Owning a gun should not be a right and refusing to have adequate gun control because children are being murdered in schools just further more solidify my stance that conservatives are the least empathetic or compationate bunch.
The entire conservative media has shown time and time again that they don't actually care about the lives of others if that means their priviledge is challenged. If you believe owning a gun is a right but bodily autonomy isn't then I honestly dont think we have much else to talk about.
My main issue with conservatives are though that they always advocate for their own best interest and not that of the greater public but also weirdly claim to be patriotic. They believe that you should earn survival while their priviledge is the reason most of them are able to survive and not just survive but exploit and steal from the poor. Its the blatant disregard for human life but claiming they're all for the lives of fetuses while they fight to keep their guns in spite of the very real mass shooting issue in the US and very real need for gun control, strip women and little girls of their human rights in the name of being pro life but do absolutely nothing to help those women and children after the forced births and forcing unwanted children into a cycle of abuse and neglect only to be told they need to just work hard while having every single card stacked against them and only seeing a select few actually make it out of the systemic cycle of abuse and neglect, place r*pists in supreme court positions, hate the idea of wellfair, think disinfranchised groups just need to work hard, while they exploit those same people, cut taxes for the rich (Trump) and demonise the BIPOC community for standing against their people being murdered for no reason but happily commited treason on January 6 and were just let in when not long before that BLM protests at the capitol were met with swat teams but still claiming theres no such thing as white privilege, supported a murderous 17 year old who crossed state lines with weapons and celebrated the deaths of the people he killed after walking into a hostile crowd armed and ready to murder, constantly debating whether the lgbtq+ community deserve to have the rights that they were just recently given, constantly pushing for lgbtq+ people to not be in military, supporting the mistreatment and contributing to the mistreatment of of lbgtq+ children and adults, trying to pretend that lgbtq+ people existing is some agenda to oppress and silence Christians (their main oppressors) and worshiping an orange cheeto who proudly sexually assaults womens and was besties with Epstien, even commiting treason for said cheeto because he was somehow sent by god for conservatives?
I can go on and on but nobody has time to list every single issue with conservatism. Voting conservative puts those horrible people in power and gives them platforms to literally continue ruining lives. It does not matter how good your intentions are. You're actively contributing to the society that support people who have had their hands in oppressing their own people with no regard for who they affect for decades. Modern Conservativism at its core is selfish, unempathetic and cruel.
This is the conservativism this women represents and rallys for just to earn a buck cuz this is what conservatism is. As long as you make money it doesnt matter how many lives are ruined in the process. Doesnt matter how these harmful rhetorics actually ruin peoples lives.
I believe every LIVING being deserve to have a fair chance at life. Conservativism does not advocate for that. Not the conservatisim I've witnessed at least.
So yeah, we disagree on a vast amount of issues lol
After my Ted talk I guess my other questions are how do you vote for a party that actively supports dangerous rhetorics that actually result in real life harm?
Also, what about progress, tolerance and acceptance (which is what the left advocates for) is bad for society but not the above mentioned issues that have plagued society for YEARS.
Removing freedom of speech has never ever been a stance the left has advocated for so why exactly is it that conservatives believe that they should have freedom of speech and nobody else should? Show me where the left advocates for stripping people of their freedom of speech cuz thats news to me.
All I've ever seen are conservatives saying horrible or problematic shit and other people using their freedom of speech to critique.

@@YouWillGetThereBuddy In all due respect, I'm not a keyboard warrior looking to have a debate over misconceptions, poor arguments, and clearly unreasoned positions that are more emotional than logical. You asked a question, and I provided a sincere perspective. It would take me days to address the false ideas you have about conservatism, as I know for a fact it's not the principles you are upset about, but the perception of them (because you're perception, in all due respect, lacks depth and intentional understanding of the other side). I understand the love and compassion that is in the Left, because I care to give them the benefit of the doubt, such as yourself. But I believe there is a better way to love and care through better principles and policies. If you don't see any love and compassion in the right and their principles and policies, than I'd recommend you do that first with proper intentionality because that shows the character of understanding peoples hearts (whether you agree its the best way to show love and compassion or not). Because if you think the right is malicious or out to hurt people, than you are widely mistaken - they're are good people with good hearts.
I am empathetic, compassionate, and sincere in my understanding of politics, morals, and ethics, (as you saw in my response and initial comment), and from our responses side by side, I think I am the only one that is offering that. The absolutes you make, the grouping and misrepresenting of individuals is more cruel than caring, and I hope you find someone that you'd be able to have a civil conversation with (not online of youtube comments) that would explain the reason behind conservative principles, not the emotionally perceived idea of them that have been poorly and purposefully communicated by the left, and in this videos example, sometimes even by the right.
I love debates, and truthfully would have a hoot responding to all of this, but this isn't the place and I have things to do that are of more value to me and moreso, to others that depend on me.
And to your final questions, I can't answer that given the hypocrisy in the question. Every political position have hateful and problematic extremes / rhetorics, and to be blind to what the left has done and the lives lost or destroyed economically and socially, is ignorant bliss if I've ever seen it.
      All the best,

@@JFulfy Well, you can choose to address what I’ve said or not. Completely up to you. I will leave you with this though… My perception of conservatism isn’t purely based off emotion (this is usually the straw man conservatives run to) it’s also based on fact. The fact that even this channel displays the above mentioned issues with conservatism.
PragerU platforms hateful conservatives who perpetuate literally everything I’ve said. Not only this channel but literally every single conservative channel I’ve seen on this platform has perpetuated the same rhetoric.
Conservatives I’ve met in person have perpetuated this same rhetoric. Just cuz you say it isn’t true doesn’t make it so. Conservative policies and media perpetuate this rhetoric. It’s quit literally everywhere. Also, considering that you’ve praised this channel in your original comment shows me that you perpetuate this rhetoric too.
These are not misconceptions. Every issue I’ve pointed out is truth. Easy google searches would prove that. Watching the news (and no I don’t just mean CNN and Fox) would prove that. Watching the way conservatives and white supremacists were so loud about the prejudices and hatred when Trump was in power proves it.
What’s sad is that you genuinely believe conservatism has any compassion or empathy anywhere while you clearly stated that owning guns is a right but woman’s right to bodily autonomy shouldn’t. I’ve read and consumed enough to form an informed opinion on the matter. My algorithm is so confusingly messy because I don’t just consume left based platforms. All the right does on these platforms is spread hatred and are definitely malicious in their need to dehumanise and degrade lgbtq+ people and also spread horrible rhetoric that perpetuate the idea that women are second class citizens only existing to serve men and be incubators. It’s all over the internet. Name one policy that is compassionate, empathetic and for the greater good of humanity. Humanity as a whole. Not just Rich or Middle class Conservative Christians. Name one. I’m genuinely curious.
One more thing… Thank you for answering sincerely. I do appreciate that. It’s hard for me to sugarcoat my words on this topic because I am VERY passionate about injustice and oppression. So my coming off hostile is not intentional.

Second of all, people aren’t *nearly* as mean and nasty to smokers as they are to fat people. You wouldn’t(or at least I hope you wouldn’t) tell a smoker “You’re just lazy because you won’t stop smoking”. Hopefully, you’d recognize that things are more complicated than that, and all we’re asking is that you do the same for fat people.

At no point in my comment did I say that everyone who is overweight is that way due to overeating. I never even said "overweight," or "obese" people. I explicitly said "those who overeat." So, my comment wouldn't include those who are overweight for literally any other reason than overeating.
Every smoker that I have ever met has acknowledged that the habit is unhealthy, and has said that they should probably quit smoking. With those who overeat however, I have noticed a considerable difference with how they treat it. Many of them don't acknowledge that they should likely stop, and any suggestion that they should stop a habit that is _literally killing them_ is seen as offensive.
Now, I am not saying that people should be rude when addressing the habits of those who overeat, but refusing to acknowledge that it is a problem can, will, and has killed plenty of people, and _significantly_ reduced the quality of life of those who are still living.
