I knew a teacher who was a lesbian (or bi or something, she was in a relationship with a woman) and she never mentioned it to the kids. She taught the kids, and thats it. Loved her very much, she was a good teacher, she only ever mentioned she was in a same sex relationship casually to the other teachers. Not even to the volunteer assistants (who were around 14-17). Its not exactly difficult to be a lesbian and teach without letting your sexuality influence your classes.

We very quickly came to a peaceful and mutually comfortable relationship. He was a fabulous young man and very charismatic in a total theater kid way. He also helped me stand by my belief that I do not have to agree with the agenda as a whole in order to care for the individuals. I dare even say in some ways more of a dude than some dudes I know. Finding out she was lesbian changed absolutely NOTHING to our dynamic and it was great. I wish such a logical thinking would be the approach these teachers take too... Cause let's be honest... The pride flag plastered all over a classroom and the teacher openly preaching about that has no place in the classroom unless it's sex ed.

When I was in my early teens I liked going to the park nearby with my headphones on and listen to music on the swings. It was kind of a time to gather my thoughts and decompress. I knew I was bi, but I didn't really tell anyone, didn't care to, to be honest.
One day this person comes up behind me and sits on the swing next to me. We're alone as I usually went to the park when children weren't already there. (Didn't want to worry about them running in front of me or potentially taking up a spot they would like.)
Without prompting and obviously seeing my headphones on my head this person starts talking to me. They're about my age at the time, 14 or 15. I wasn't raised to be rude so I greeted them back. They asked me my preferred pronouns, which was a bit strange for me as I hadn't been asked this before. I answered she/her as I am a girl. They then go on to explain their ENTIRE identity to me. Telling me they were a transgender nonbinary pansexual who might be on the asexual spectrum. This took at least ten whole minutes of labels and their definitions (despite my already knowing them). And let me remind you that I didn't ASK.
When they got around to directing the conversation back to me. The only question they asked was if I was part of the LGBTQ+ community. If asked today, I would say no, even though I do identify as bi. But not wanting to make things awkward I just said yes.
They asked me my labels which really is such a strange thing to ask someone you've just randomly approached on a swing set in a deserted park. Not asking why I've come to this place or what I like to do here. Not asking about my grade or school or any other thing we could have possibly related to about each other considering how close in age we were. No, this was diversity checklist time.
I told them the plain truth of it. That I was bi and what followed was this weird pause, like I was meant to go further with it. Like what do you expect of me? Why does it matter at all who I'm attracted to? It was ridiculous.
I have friends in uni and at work now who I get along just fine with. They're not homophobic or anything that would make it difficult to tell them about my sexuality, but why would they need to know it in the first place, right? If I get into a relationship with a woman and we get onto the subject of romance or dating then yeah, if they ask, I'll tell, but no one NEEDS to know. Being bi does not make me special. Being gay or trans or straight or white or black or indigenous does not make someone special. It's the person that does that, not the color or identity.

Back when teachers were more sensible, those were the same times when businesses said that you couldn't be employed if you had unnatural hair colors, piercings, or tattoos. Now, they're like, "Oh, you have full body tattoos, shaved green hair, and fifteen centimeter gauged ears? Sure! Come on in and trans the kids. We don't mind!"
(And I'm sure someone will get mad at me for saying people with unnatural hair colors, piercings, and tattoos are weird, so let me just say this; I have tattoos and piercings. At 23, three years ago, I started getting stressed out, because I've never been in love with anyone, even though I'm a super helpless romatic. I even tried dating apps. Then I started to google if there's a psychological reason and stumbled upon aromantic and I was like yeah, THAT'S me!
Half a year later I finally met someone who I fell head over heals for. Turned out my inner child had some healing to do and that man kind of resembled my dad, but a better version (and yes, it freaked me out after I realized it). He was someone I would've needed as a child - as girl who had to learn what a healthy relationship is. We didn't date, but we had very good conversations. He listened, he remembered, he built me up, he encouraged me, he unknowingly made me heal. After that it felt like a curse was taken off of me.
To summarize: I wasn't dealing with me being aromantic, I was actually dealing with anxiety, scared of commitment, selfworth problems and a lack of security in my childhood, especially from my dad's side. Or to say it differently: daddy issues and depression.
My inner child is mostly good now and I fell in love with someone else, who doesn't remind me of my dad. I fell for him, because of him.
So yeah, instead of putting a name on everything try to psychologically understand WHY you do or don't feel a certain way. Because I've seen many people in the internet feeling uncomfortable or even ashamed after they realized it was actually something totally different they dealt with. I shared a lot of aromantic content on Tumblr, because the community was pretty small three years ago. Now when I see someone reblogging my stuff today I feel like a hypocrite.

@Michael Newell You are missing something in your history lessons, please go immediately to your library or the net and see the inventions io Black people. Back during slavery, the colonizers took credit since the enslaved were considered property.
Top 10 Inventions by Black Inventors:
      1. Mailbox (1891) - Phillip Downing
As a solution to visiting the post office every time he wanted to mail a letter, Downing invented the first outdoor mailbox that featured a hinged door that kept the letters secure but also kept out rain and snow.
Downing also has a patent for improvements on the Street-Railway System allowing them to switch automatically.
      2. Traffic light (1922) - Garrett Morgan
Morgan was an extremely accomplished inventor and is most notable for his invention of the gas mask in 1912 and the three-light traffic system in 1922.
After watching firefighters struggle in smoke, Morgan designed a device that used a wet sponge to filter out smoke and cool the air. It also featured a breathing tube that dangled near the floor which took advantage of the ‘clean air’ near the ground as the smoke would rise.
Morgan witnessed a serious traffic accident that inspired him to update the way traffic lights alerted drivers the light was going to turn red.
The two-light system only featured a red and green light, while Morgan filed a patent for the yellow “warning” light in 1922.
His inventions are still used to this day and have helped save countless lives.
      3. Automatic Gear Shift (1932) - Richard Spikes
Richard Spikes was a Texas-born barber, schoolteacher, musician, businessman and inventor.
Spikes received the patent for his automatic gear shifter in 1932 and it was quickly welcomed by major vehicle companies. He then focused his energy on improving the automatic braking system until 1962
Spikes holds several American patents including a beer tap, the billiard cue rack, horizontally swinging barber chair, vehicle turn signals and the automatic gear shifter.
      4. Clothes Dryer (1892) - George T. Sampson
Sampson developed the first automatic clothes dryer that used a series of suspension rods over a specifically designed stove to dry clothes. His design was used up until the late 1930s when the use of gas and electric dryers began.
Prior to his invention, clothes were hung over the top of an open flame but often left clothing with the smell of smoke.
      5. Automatic Elevator Doors (1887) - Alexander Miles
It is believed that Miles came up with the inspiration for the automatic elevator doors after watching his daughter Grace suffer a life-threatening injury when she fell down an elevator shaft.
The elevator doors prior were opened either by patrons or a dedicated operator but the open shaft often lead to horrific accidents.
He was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2007.
      6. Folding Chairs (1889) - John Purdy
Classified as a camp, traveling, or sports stool, John Purdy and Daniel Sadgwar made significant improvements to the folding chair making it extremely portable.
      7. Gas Heating Furnace (1919) - Alice H. Parker
Inspired by the ineffectiveness of her fireplace during cold New Jersey winters, Parker invented a heating system that drew in cold air and conveyed the heat through a heat exchanger.
During her time most buildings were heated with coal or wood. While her invention was not the first gas patent, it was the first to feature individually controlled air ducts that transferred heat to different parts of the building
Parker and her patents are mentioned in the “Black Women in America: Historical Encyclopedia”.
      8. Golf Tee (1899) - George Grant
Not only did George Grant create an “improved golf tee” made out of rubber and wood, but he was also a dentist and became the first African American to become a professor at Harvard University.
      9. Modern Toilet (1872) - Thomas Elkins
In 1872 Elkins invented the “Chamber Commode,” which is essentially a toilet that featured a mirror, bookrack, washstand, table and easy chair.
      10. Home Security Systems (1966) - Mary Van Brittan Brown
Brown along with her husband Albert Brown, an electrician, invented the first home security system in 1966 as a solution to the high crime rate they experienced in the neighborhood of Queens, New York.
Her invention used three peepholes to help her see through the door, a camera that could adjust from each peephole, a microphone system that allowed her to communicate with visitors, a remote control that allowed her to unlatch the door and a button that would contact the police if necessary.
Her invention paved the way for modern video monitoring, remote-controlled locks, push-button alarms, instant messaging to security providers and two-way voice communication.
      Bonus:
      Pacemaker (1964) - Otis Boykin
Boykin has patented 26 devices but is best known for his electronic control devices used in guided missiles, IBM computers and the pacemaker.
His inventions were inspired by the death of his mother Sarah after she suffered heart failure when he was just one year old.
Also look up Henrietta Lacks, even though she died in 1951, she left behind a legacy that still helps us out today.

As someone who is studying linguistics (hopefully majoring soon), they/their/them is acceptable only when you don't know whether said person is a man or a woman. Ex. Someone forgot their bag. Of course the alternative his/her is also correct, but they/their/them is sometimes is more immediate, and thus sometimes preferred in actual speech by speakers. However, the whole "non-binary" they/them is bullshit. This purely contemporary idea that you can make up whatever new words and pronouns you want and people have to adapt to them is crazy and is against the very nature of language. By definition, language is a part of culture, a SHARED concept within a community. It is not and cannot ever be individual (Wittgenstein docet). We are able to communicate because we share a code (the language we speak) and the mental schemata rooted in our culture. Either this knowledge is shared or communication is inefficient. Full stop. You can make a whole new language yourself, of course, but don't expect everyone else to speak it. J.R.R. Tolkien didn't expect anyone else to speak random Elvish languages he made up. I just hope future linguistics books won't include this non-sense language the wokeists are making up. Language is such a complex thing to study. You realize that it's a perfect means of communication (to be honest, the only one we have to actually transmit knowledge and form a tradition (from Latin tradere = to transmit!) that has been perfected for centuries and centuries and that its efficacy is due to its development starting from what humans' cognitive perception of the world is. Every animal is either male or female. Humans have empirically observed this in reality and processed it in their minds, then transferred it into language. Yes, some languages (Russian, German, Latin, Romanian, ancient Greek, etc.) have a neuter GRAMMATICAL gender in order to have systematic, regular rules in grammar which have been regrouped into groups of declination, again, in the course of centuries, NATURALLY, not because someone imposed it, but these languages do not use the neuter to refer to people. Linguists who actually use this argument to push these neo-pronouns have understood absolutely nothing about language, etymology, philology, philosophy of language, historical linguistics and many other linguistic disciplines. Language develops naturally, it is not imposed. Imposing certain language rules is utterly useless, history has taught us. Some may argue that there are languages with even more genders, such as Bantu languages, but that again is not a valid argument, as those genders are, again, GRAMMATICAL genders, not stuff like cakegender and other bullshit, and are mostly used to refer to objects and abstract notions, they could be compared to what we call "classifiers" in languages such as Chinese and Japanese (ex. long objects, short objects, time, flowers, wide objects, etc.)
      Sorry for the rant 😂😂

She said people don't want her to speak but I don't understand if she contiously chooses this this type of approach to get a reaction or if she is just clueless. The first thing they ask me are my pronouns, not my name or how I was feeling after this massive life adjustment. I’m sitting there exhausted after a long night in the hospital. I say “I’m sorry I’m confused. What?” They say “What do you identify as? You don’t know your pronouns??” I go “Huh? I’m a girl. My name is Julia, I’m confused, do we all get asked this?” They go “Okay that’s your name and you can say you’re a girl but what are your PRO-NOUNS.” And said it slowly as if I don’t understand English. The left just open their mouth and let’s every ounce of crazy out, and then they get upset when people are like “OK you’re crazy I’m gonna stay away from you now” or we make fun of them, which makes them cry. I have a secret for the left, because clearly they just can’t pick up what we’re laying down. People stay away from you because you let all your crazy out every day. I am so thankful I dodged this weird mess throughout all of my schooling. I was able to go about my day normally and focus on topics that actually made sense for the most part.

I'm a normal looking, conservative, white female teacher. And oddly enough, none of my students are afraid to talk to me. I have gay and trans students who feel comfortable talking to me about anything and everything. Black students feel comfortable talking to me. I don't have any rainbows in my class, no blm flags, yet the students still feel like I am a safe person to talk to.
