I like how there's an English translation
Being shamed for acting a certain way is a good way to get them to stop them acting like that, which is why I think shaming fat people for them choosing to be fat important. Bad and sinful behavior should be shamed.
Rather, shaming someone for acting "too white" is a good way to keep your community from succeeding. If you are constantly shamed for wanting to succeed, and doing so, is a good way to keep your community from valuing achieving anything. Rather than racism from white people, I think it is more likely that it is peer pressure from your own community that is to blame. I think it is pretty much the same phenomenon we see with white liberals who are saying evil things and virtue signaling just to fit in. Peer pressure is so much more powerful an influencer than a boogeyman like white supremacists in controlling the black community. It also shows just how prevalent open racism is within the black community.
"You act white" translates to "you don't act ghetto enough"
And why on earth should you, I heard this crap myself growing up from people who ended up committing crimes. Yeah, we should listen to that bull shit.

Heard this aimed at one of my high school classmates in AP English by someone who walked up to the classroom door before the class began. My classmate loved to learn and this class was a creative outlet from the typical English class.

The amount of time I have had my “black card” revoked. I once had a black man tell me, “You act white!” My reply, “How am I acting white?” His reply, “You read.” 🤦🏾♀️ most of my friends now are white. Not because I prefer white people, but because I became tired of having to prove how black I am. My white friends just accept me for who I am.

I am mixed race, but look white. I do not advertise my ethnicity like it is going to win points. But I can tell you, when I tried to join a black group at work, I was rejected because I am not black enough. My white friends accept me and are not bothered by it. I get told by family members that I have "self hate" for listening to Candace Owens or other black conservative voices and that I'm going against my own race. What black people have a problem with is you being an African trying to tell them about what they should feel or can experience. Sometimes, this has to with examining racism. This is insulting because you are a foreigner, who didn't nor did your ancestors grow up in this country. Nor did your ancestors experiencec slavery or Jim Crow here. This is insulting. This would be like telling you how your experience as an African was during colonialism with the us being American.
Apparently every Nigerian I have ever met is "acting white" because every one I have ever met speaks impeccable English.

Growing up in the 70's and 80's, reading a lot of books and listening to heavy metal, The Black Community turned their backs on me because I was different. As an adult I had a black coworker who wanted to take a swing at me because I used words he didn't understand, and he thought I was making fun of him. I told him that it's not my fault that I read a lot of books. It doesn't bother me, though. My parents didn't raise me with a victim mentality, which I am very thankful for. I refuse to take part in The Oppression Olympics.

Good for you for not buckling under societal pressure. I love all genres of music and also having grown up in the 80s (I was born in '76) I was into a lot of White artists, basically whatever came on MTV. I had a lot of White friends. And yeah, that got me criticism from Black people, especially my love for New Kids on the Block...still love them, lol.

@@rhondah.1478 I've been told that I'm too white many times because of what I like, and I finally reached a point where I didn't care. Took me a few decades, but it is what it is. And I feel you, I was born a relatively short time after Dr. King was assassinated, and it was such a different time. But those of us born in that generation grew up with awesome music, both the classics that already existed and the new artists that came around. Those who did not experience the 70's or the 80's don't know the pure joy of finding new music being played on the radio dial, and it was always banger after banger. And we had older relatives that often introduced us to new music. One of my uncles introduced me to Ram Jam and I had an older cousin that introduced me to AC/DC while we were tearing ass across a frozen lake in a truck he had rebuilt. 😁

...this is not a excuse but the reason for that is that Black culture like White culture demands but doesn't always get conformity. Black culture that is at poverty level as well as educated Blacks have a Black / White filter ... Black vernacular language is slang infused which makes it "Black" ... or how "WE" talk .... the WE is subjective. ENUNCIATING is the divider between Black vernacular and White vernacular. In the past, "CORRECT" English was expected in society ...speech is a Freedom so that was always challenged by those who did not align culturally with Majority Culture.

#1. the person "IS" Black theoretically is they adhere to Black Culture and if they have dark skin which makes the statement absurd and race based or Racist!
#2. Coming from a White person, the statement would be Racist on it's face no matter wehat the intent. This is Because the statement becomes part of a lengthy line of rhetoric that belittles or denies black aesthetics of any kind. It is a statement that says that "You need to change to be more like me" ... which is oppressive in any case.
I'm black, love anime, and rock music, don't talk in slang, and wear converse and vans. The number of times I've heard from other black people that I talk and act white has made me isolate myself from many black people subconsciously out of fear of feeling like I am not enough or some bull crap like that. I've learned to just be me and not just my skin color. Because, quite honestly, it is hard to find other people who look like me and are interested in the same things.
I'm sure their out there, but while you decided feck this I'm going to be me. Their still probably trying to appease their community, and not pursing the things they really like. And that to me is pretty sad, it's a short life and it's too short to not do all the things you want to do.

Im half black and half asian, my black mother taught me to speak properly, and many in the black community accuse me of acting white or not black enough because I'm half asian. I'm American born, English raised in a Caribbean neighbourhood by Irish grandparents, served 6 years in the USAF, and I've travelled the world... there's almost nowhere I haven't been in my 50-odd years of life... and I've never seen a country that works harder to keep itself divided than the U.S. Sadly, the internet is spreading this socio-political virus to the rest of the Western world.
Thank you for your service! I come from a very muxed cultured family too. My dad's German, Russian, and Spanish (very small percentage Romanian) decent. My mother's S. Korean and chinese with a lil German decent. I was born in Nicaragua and raised in the States from 5yrs up. I traveled the world with my father whenever I could when I was younger and got to see other cultures. And I can agree..USA can be the most seperated when it comes to things like these.

It's the politicians with collusion from the mass media doing it, and sadly they are indoctrinating our younger generations to hate each other. If the normal citizens feel like they can't trust or get along with each other, these groups hope they will turn to them, and in doing so they will have control over them.

OMG! Amala. You just described my High school experience. I'm black (dark skinned) , considered articulate, musician who likes rock, heavy rock, but I was raised on Motown. My parents were ok with me and my brothers liking rock. I'm 62, and still get the "OREO" treatment. Some white people would tell me "I'm Blacker den you is". NO. You're Not!!! Just because I graduated college, have white friends, play hard rock, have a decent job, never been in prison...I guess I'm not Black. But I AM.

When I was kid, I drew anime-styled art a lot in school. But around 10th grade, I stopped drawing in school because I got sick of classmates and teachers always asking why I don’t “draw more Black.” Even when I participated in art contests, I always lost to that graffiti-style type of art anyway. I was always frustrated that they would never recognize my hard work and wondered if I should change my style. But my mom basically said “Screw ‘em!” and encouraged me to keep drawing the way I want. I’m a Studio Art major now. 😂

Got asked by a Hispanic girl in elementary school "why do you like to read, you're black" and I was so confused by her question. I just responded, with an odd look on my face, "because I like to read?" And that was my first experience with racism.

The fact that speaking properly, or behaving in a classy
, probably elegant manner; is deemed "white", actually shows that you are NOT the problem but the prejudice, the self-limitation and the toxic self-segregation of the accusing community are the problem.

I was harassed my entire life said I spoke "white" when I just simply spoke properly.
I came from educators and parents who pushed education and I was corrected growing up it's sad and a sickness in the minds of those who if I don't live up to the stereotypes I'm not black, I don't pay it any mindwhen you are you ger it's harder but as you get older and gain wisdom and understanding you feel sorry for those trapped in a limited mentality.
I have always said the only thing that will fix black society is black people and that ain't happening any time soon.
This mentality is so lame and backward. How are we supposed to speak or act? Are we supposed to speak slang all day or misuse words or grammar to be accepted? This is too stupid. I happen to like language and words.

Seriously like 99% of racism I have ever experienced has been from OTHER black people!

I am from Venezuela, at the university I had a study partner named Robert, he was from Trinidad, he was black and he constantly complained to me that I never used bad words, everyone interspersed profanities when speaking except me, I often called him an idiot, an oligophrenic and the latter was the one that bothered him the most, possibly because he did not know what he wanted to say.
I always wondered why we white people are addressed by the POC constantly as white people. Honestly I never understood why? I'm European and even in our whiteness, we all have different skin color! Northern EU is "often" lighter, middle EU usually have all different skin colors. More to the south it will be way darker than in the north! Sun is tanning us, too. ( not all european meets this standard, even in northern region might be people who are more tanned)
If we look into our DNA there are often found African, Hispanic or some other native blood-types in it! And if you paid attention in history class you will know why!

I saw this 40 years ago when I was in the Navy, so it's nothing new. Black men on board were constantly appraising you for any sign that you weren't "acting in strict accordance with behavior protocols rigidly set by the black community" AKA "being ghetto". They all wore the same clothing while on liberty, ate the same foods, smoked the same cigarettes, had the same haircuts, bought the same types of automobiles with the same aftermarket modifications, listened to the same music, talked the same way, walked the same way and drank the same soft drinks. Any diversity from the accepted script was instantly criticized. I was from an upper middle class family in a upscale suburb of Baltimore so it was like being tossed among Martians for me. We looked alike but we lived on different worlds. Black culture can be likened to crab mentality.

I have always loved a line from Sidney Poitier in the movie “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” where he lovingly looks at his father and says “You think of yourself as a colored man. I think of myself as a man”. Such a wonderful line.

One of my best friends in middle school is black. She was a great girl smart, kind, and sweet. We were in advance classes. That's where we met. When we met ( we were sat next to each other) we started to talk about how we got in the advance classes. She told me that she up till that year made her grades lower so she wouldn't look smart because she wanted to fit in with her family and other black kids. She then realized that was hurting her future and started getting better grades. We hung out everyday , and i saw how other black kids and even her family started treating her. I felt so sad for her. They would say anything she did from then on was her trying to be white from how she dressed to how she acted what she ate. How was a 13 year old girl supposed to handle being ostracized just for wanted to have a better future?
The parents calling her little miss white girl, there in itself is the problem, so now all this craziness going on in black communities and every where else says another about how their home lives are. Be a good black person and disrespect others, steal, loot, be a criminal, don't take responsibility for your actions, blame society and the white people. How fucked up is that!?

This is one of the single most damaging things the black community does to itself. The underlying connotation of the statement "You Act White" is that Black = Ghetto/Poor/Stupid and White = Fancy/Rich/Smart. Can you imagine a school where every day the students that scored the highest on homework or tests were singled out in front of the rest of the students and ridiculed for their achievement and then forced to sit alone by themselves until they brought their grades back down. The black community is also often referenced with the "Bucket of Crabs" analogy where as soon as one crab tries to climb out of the bucket the rest of them pull the escaping crab back down into the bucket and so none of them ever escape

In the early 2000s I read an article written by an African-American journalist who described what it was like going through high school, all the boys were gang members or drug dealers, all the girls were interested in "catching a man who would support them." , her classmates had sex with their boyfriends in exchange for gifts and money, they frequently pointed out to her that not being promiscuous was as if she believed that she was better than the others, half of the girls got pregnant before graduating and they didn't care For them it was normal and in general they obtained subsidies to support themselves for a while. Their mother and sisters had become pregnant without being married and that example gave her the conviction to seek a better life.

When I was a kid if I did something well - say got good grades - my friends in the neighborhood would be legit happy for me "aw man we are going to be working for you someday" etc. But if another black kid did the same thing I did they would get mocked for "thinking they were white." It has honestly always bothered me even now decades later I wonder if some of their lives would have turned out differently with a littke bit of encouragement.

Well I think they mean “black” as the name of a culture in the US, rather than “black” as a skin colour. They have the same name, but they’re 2 separate concepts. Someone with black skin from outside the US wouldn’t be expected to “act black”. So, I agree it’s annoying, but I think it’s going too far to say it’s promoting racism.

Equally there's nothing wrong with saying women are generally gentler than men. But criticizing men who are very gentle or women who are harsher, on the basis that they don't match the norms for their sex, is definitely sexist and wrong.
That would be as silly as telling a man he's effeminate for being 5'6", or a woman that she's really 'butch' for being 5'11". It'd be total nonsense. But mentioning that men avg. 5'10" and women 5'4" is in no way sexist.
My daughters were white in a minority white school district growing up and saw this dynamic playing out over and over again. They would have black friends who, the more successful they got, would be taunted by their black peers who would drag them back down to their academic level with these attacks that, at times, were quite ugly. None of them wanted to be “accused” of acting white. Only a couple of them had the fortitude to stay the course and become successful students who would go on to college. The others would fall back and like their peers ended up for the most part becoming gang members or at the very least high school dropouts. It was very sad and was so necessary. My daughters reported they did not see this at all among Asian or other ethnic peer groups. In fact the parents and other community members in those peer groups valued academic success and saw that as a means to escape their cycles of poverty.
I’m a high school teacher in Philadelphia. My students have always been suspicious of my “blackness” because I correct their grammar and don’t allow them to curse in class. One student openly accused me of not being black because I’ve never seen the movie “Stomp the Yard.”

Im mixed and my Black mom made sure I spoke right when she didn't. That i was properly educated. I have been told I act and speak white all the time by family and strangers. Its strange to put people down for how they speak, and to me it shows the lack of education and abundance in ignorance.

I'm white. The only time I heard this outside of black community, was when my daughter-in-law was told at the university Asian club, that she didn't look Asian enough. She told them to shove it. She is half Korean and half white. People complaining about racism, but they are the ones promoting it. Yes, as a Christian, all Christians are my siblings. I’m mixed, but Mexican and I struggle with learning, but I always try hard and in high school, a “cholo” Mexican said “Why you gotta be a teacher’s pet??” And I straight up told him “Cuz I don’t wanna be a moron.” I constantly love to learn new things and sometimes people blame the teachers if they fail and always come up to me and question “How do you do it??” And I tell them “I actually study. And especially since I have a learning disability, I have to learn twice as long.” They think I’m lying, but I don’t like to lie and I don’t anymore. I ain’t gonna be a moron because my parents raised me right. To be a hardworking person.

I have a daughter who is learning disabled also. I was told she may never be able to read. She is not a scholar today (in her 30s) but she is employed, successful in her position, and receives awards for her what I call hard work! There are many learning disabled that don’t try and let themselves be put into a box that expects nothing from them.

I experienced this growing up - it always made me feel uncomfortable because most of the racism I've experienced comes from other judgemental black people who think they know me or know what's best for me based on the colour of my skin, and not on my individual merit, personality or interests.
My dance teacher was north American (I wasn’t really dancing just joined a uni salsa club for fun), first day she told me I dance like a white girl.. 😅 she was smiling but I kinda feel that was meant as an insult! (In Europe it’s just a joke, we don’t get offended)

As a black woman who's always been Alternative, I've always told that I've been "different", or "unique" by my mother when it came to self expression and temperament, but when it came to address mental health, that was "for white people".
Opposite for my social life, I was ostracized by my black peers, focused on my education, but i was definitely called "emo", "goth" "oreo" , asked why i was talking white, and bullied.
I never understood why it was that way, but getting older shows me that its just deep rooted trauma, and how much "being black" and "being white" meant in society.
I believe this same issue was tackled in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air when Carlton tried to join a black fraternity in college and was rejecting for not acting black enough. The episode ends with Uncle Phil calling for an end to that discrimination and stereotyping, but a couple of decades later and it’s still an issue.

I think it's possible every culture demonizes those that don't "act" the way they're "supposed" to within a group. This has been happening forever. I think the issue is that nowadays the media says this that these race issues are a white exclusive issue. Man, that's messed up. I really hate hearing those terms thrown around so casually. Why do some people believe that black people are a monolith?! We are all INDIVIDUALS. I abhor identity politics. But I find it extra distasteful to hear those from the alleged "tolerant" side call black conservatives awful names.
I have taught high school AP World History for over 15 years, and it pains me to see how some of my students who are African-American wrestle with pushback from friends in their social circles. Several students over the years have had private conversations with me about this, both boys and girls. I've had students drop AP courses because of peer pressure, but I've also had students leave their friends behind because they felt ostracized for excelling in school and participating in academic activities. This is a very real problem that many teachers, including myself, cannot fully relate to because we may not have grown up with similar issues. It often gets overlooked, and while some may find it a dismissive topic - I have seen the very real impact it has on student success and self-confidence.
Story of my life. Growing up, I was taught to speak proper english, be polite and well mannered, and I was constantly hounded for "acting white".

So I succumbed to peer pressure and started to act black and they still didn't like me because they thought I was trying to hard 😂. You have to learn that you can't please everyone. Actually.... As a Mexican, Navajo, Scottish man, I've been accused of "acting white" or "being a white boy" by the latino community. Even members of my own family have made those claims in regards to who I am and the manner in which I speak. I'm also a metal head so my music, clothing style and how I express myself only further isolated me from my fellow Mexicans. I will state that I've noticed a shift or change in those views and attitude within younger Latino circles. I'm proud of my heritage. ALL of it. I'm proud to be brown, red and white.

My niece who is white and latina, married a black man and has 2 daughters. Parents are Ivy League Master's level graduates who are highly successful. It's sad that negative traits are considered traits of blackness. I've been called an oreo and other derogatory names for having interest or thoughts that are not stereotypical. It's disgusting and I feel less aligned with more black people everyday, especially since all this racial division in the country that tries to tell you how you have to think and believe in order to be black. When a group identifies as negative things and someone attempts to escape that, the others try and shame(grab) and drag them back down to that level. The group think is a trap, all it really is, is that if you're strong enough mentally to not devolve into pity politics and victimhood but make something of yourself then you prove how weak, lazy, and selfish they are. Besides that my family was originally Southern Italian and I have Arab DNA. I consider myself a Caucasian, but it’s no big deal to me or my mixed race wife.

Growing up we had a lid on all this in my area of the metro. We were kids and teens just hanging out and playing. It was the last thing on our minds! I taught inner city school for 30 years and heard so many black kids accusing other black kids as "acting white." The accusations were directed at Black students who were high achievers. So sad that the pressure on Black kids was to under achieve. In no other racial group did I see this phenomenon. Our school system had a large Asian community (mostly refugees from South East Asia and from South America. The Asian kids were under a great deal of pressure to achieve, while Hispanic kids, like white kids, just did their own thing. So now our colleges and universities discriminate against Asian kids while giving privileges to other racial minorities. So even our institutions go along with this farce. A funny true story. I had an 8th grade student from Kenya in my homeroom. One day a debate broke out between 2 Black, high achieving girls and several other low achieving students over the issue of acting white. I decided to turn the issue over to my Kenyan student for arbitration. When asked about what it meant to act black, all he said, pointing to low achieving Black students, "Nobody in my country acts like that." Everyone in class cracked up.

You bring up some very good points. One of my best friends is black and he always had to struggle with pleasing his “community” while trying to pursue a career in finance. Something seen as a white job and therefore selling out to the white man. He also brought up something that I would have never thought of, the fact that so many in the black community don’t pursue their dreams for fear of being labeled “white”. How many wonderful minds and world changing innovators have we lost to this type of mentality?

That is extremely common and young people even have to deal with physical assaults for academic achievement in many places. I aggressively began my children's academic learning very early so I enrolled them in jujitsu and Muy Thai as soon as they turned 3yrs old.

I’m in the UK and I’ve had to deal with this nonsense all my life. My dad used to call it “crabs in a barrel”. My brother is a lot less diplomatic. He calls it the slave mentality. Maybe it’s just human nature, but it seems like it’s easier to pull others down than lift oneself up. One of my favourite commentaries on this actually comes from the film Man of Steel. Jor-El asks a simple question: “what if a child aspires to be something other than society intended?”

I've heard this same sentiment from sooo many Black people. However, as a Native Mesoamerican whose ancestors are form modern day Mexico, I have been told many times that I act "too White" or sometimes "too American". And that experience is not just typical for myself, but several so-called "Mexicans" that live in the US

I’m mixed race (my mum is Trinidadian and my dad is white) I pronounce my T’s, I have a well spoken middle class southern British accent. People used to call me the N word, I finally spoke out against the racism and people responded by saying “you’re not black anyway” and “you’re basically white”. I’ve had people tell me I don’t “sound black”.
I’m bloody disgusted by all of this. It makes my blood boil considering I literally grew up with my black single mother, didn’t really go out much, this is just how I am. Being mixed race around a bunch of uncultured swines can be truly unbearable.

I'm almost 50 now, and I also live and grew up in the south of England with the same kind of people saying that I spoke more like a white man, when I was a teenager working in a supermarket an older white man said that I was 'the whitest black guy he knew' prefaced with the 'I'm not being racist, but..' phrase. Also as a teenager I was at college and just happened to sing along a reggae lyric near a black guy only for him to then say to me 'how come YOU know that song?'
For a long time I questioned myself for the racist comments I received from both black and white people but then I built a friend base of all manner of people from all backgrounds just by staying myself and finding those that love and respect me for who I am.

I'm currently friends with a Ukranian who has only lived here since September, I get along well with him and most foreigners due to the fact I can relate to not fitting in. But most importantly, he is very respecrful and kind.
My ex girlfriend was half Portugese, and actually stuck up for me when I recieved racist remarks from people during our relationship. She was one of the kindest souls I think I ever met, very supportive and had a caring and gentle attitude. Moral of the story is that it doesn't matter about race, how you look or sound. It is simply about how you behave and what your morals and values are.
I'm sorry you go through that, and it might not mean much from a white person. But I got the same thing as I said above, you like what you like and don't apologize for it. Be who you want to be, if that does not align with your community oh well.
@@OldBoydudeman Africans in countries other than the US tend to speak just like the majority, (unless recent immigrant) Blacks in the UK speak like everyone else, same in other Europeans countries. For some reason African Americans have adopted a different speech. I think there are a few reasons, the AA community is large (around 30 million) and many of them only interact with each other. Many of them left school early, and more recently they glorify gang, hip hop and rap culture. The woke left movement has also allowed them to have an identity of victimhood, and any poor standards is just part of their "culture"
My true opinion on this topic is this. Those who say you ''act White'' are actually jealous of you because you speak proper English, dress nicely, act civilized, prefer to be as educated as possible, and accept people for who they are instead of judging them solely on the color of their skin.

This is an issue within many minority groups. I am indigenous (Native) and get called an Apple. It's a derogatory term meaning red on the outside but white on the inside, for Natives that do not conform to the groupthink mindset of victimhood.

So, I’m a white girl who grew up in a lower middle class white family who are HARDCORE gearheads. I’m talking Harley choppers, hot rods, dirt bikes, etc. So, a few years ago, we went to a chopper show that premiered an Indy documentary about these two famous black motorcycle riders who basically paved the way for black acceptance in a very predominantly “white” lifestyle in the 70’s. These men earned and gave respect everywhere they went and rode thousands of miles on two wheels across the country. These men called themselves Sugar & Spade and they lived amazingly full lives. Sadly, Sugar passed away earlier this year. Anyway, growing up, I never saw many black men on Harley’s riding around my city-but the past few years, many more black men and women have been taking up that lifestyle and I feel so much pride for them doing things that I know are sometimes ostracized by their black friends and family because it’s considered “white people shit”. Fuck that, man. I love seeing people living their life regardless of what cultural expectations may be imposed upon them. Leather wearing bikers are not limited to rough just white men with long beards.

I went to Street Vibrations in Reno years ago. There were lots of black bikers. Not just 10-20. There were at least 100 of them. Mingling right in with everyone else and very passionate about their bikes. One of the best motorcycle events I’ve been to.
I hate this so much. I grew up being told I talk white or act white and it infuriated me. Everything I know, everything I learned, everything I am, came from my Black family so I never understood the idea that I was “acting white”. They don’t understand that they’re dissing our community when they say that.
"Using inadequacies as an identity" is true. I am white, but I grew up in the ghetto. I taught high school in the ghetto. Watching so many students hold on to that identity... a lot of them with potential, but it was almost like they were afraid of it. Potential not to be like white people, but potential to go to college. To study a trade. Not get involved in a gang & the gangs are rampant in my town. It's just sad all around.

As a Brit born woman with Indian heritage, when I started to question people from India about their hatred of us Brits because of the ills of the past, I got told I 'could never be white' and 'I was trying to be', because I stuck up for the now and the fact the majority of people in the UK aren't racist. So in order for me to be authentically brown, I need to not succeed, because if I do, I'm trying to be a different race.
A similar thing happened when we had a black Chancellor recently, he was told by a member of our Labour Party (more left wing) that he wasn't really black because he didn't sound black. Our PM was lambasted for getting the top job and that he didn't really represent brown people.

As a South African I have realised that conservative Indian culture viciously rejects anything positive about the English and the UK. I was bullied so much for acting "white" its crazy even my crush told me that. In elementary it made me try to conform especially started listening to music I didn't like to fit. Even my brothers would say things like that.

I had a friend who was black in HS. She was one black of four girls in the whole school class of 500. She dressed preppy, she lived in the wealthier side of town. Dad was a lawyer. She told me nightmare stories of a sleepover w/ the other black girls. They called her Oreo ( nvr heard of that in 1981), mocked her for eating certain foods w/ a fork, and said all they did was physically fight half the night. Eye opening.
This sounds about right to me. I went through the same exact thing throughout the 80's for speaking properly, loving reading, ballet, camping, and rock music and dressing creatively. Most blacks cling for dear life to their stereotypes and never even fathom what life beyond them can be like.

I feel this. I am a 1/2 native 1/2 Puerto Rican that grew up around white people and only went to the Rez to see my grandmother intermittently. When we moved to south Dakota in my elementary years. I finally met some other Indians. By that time my vernacular and vocabulary was well entrenched. They did not accept me because I didn't know the lingo or handshakes. They used to call me a Apple. Red on the outside and white one the inside.

I come from a Mexican household and in an area of the U.S where Mexicans or hispanics make up the majority of the town so I can say that 'acting white' is a pretty common thing in our community. It's joked that if you like nice clothes, shoes, have a good house, like Hallmark, etc., that you are 'acting white'. It's just a common thing that whiteness is a joke in the Hispanic community. My own mother who is on the lighter side gets the brunt of these jokes since she is very proper sometimes and likes stereotypically 'white' things. In my own life experience, I've probably seen more outright racism against white people and their lifestyle than anything else.

I've heard it most of my life. It's a shame. My parents stressed the importance of the content of someone's character is what matters most. Don't let ignorant people dictate your life just to fit in. Treat people the way you want to be treated regardless of physical characteristics.
I definitely fit into this bracket. I’ve been bullied, even family members who are for the majority also light-skinned have pointed out how much lighter I am compared to them. The mother of a guy I dated has mentioned how ‘white’ I talked and has encouraged me ‘to be myself’. I’ve had friends who have criticized my struggles because ‘I’m not dark enough to understand them’. I’m older now so I’ve learned to love myself the way God made me. I’ve also learned how to identify and pull weeds from the roots in my garden, throw them in the trash and make sure they don’t grow back.✌🏼❤

I was NEVER Black enough. In our house we grew up with a "Command of The King's English" and only used slang to make fun of people! In high school the hoodlums I hung with (briefly) would say "What? You think YOU'RE BETTER THAN US!!!??" I couldn't say ''well, yes" because then I would just get my ass whooped! Then, of course, I was the one with the scholarship from the teachers union. 😎

It’s a sad state in the black community to see being articulate, intelligent, and any other positive behavior as being tied to being white. It does my heart good to see individuals break free of the destructive indoctrination, but makes it sink to hear so many cannot see who is really keeping the black community down. Keep up the good work, the more individuals who cast of the chains of their mental enslavement, the more the community as a whole can wake up to the reality.

I'm a old white guy. I've worked blue, gray, and white collar jobs. I've worked with people of every ethnic variety that was common in those arenas. I have never found that race spoke to the quality of a person. I've known people of great worth. I've known people of very little worth. Both sets came in all shades. The emphasis on race is just another tool to divide us. I'd like to see fewer people taken in by it.
My really good friend Chris deals with this. He's a black guy who went to our predominately white suburban school. He says most black women won't date him because of how he talks and his interests, and he gets crap for dating white girls because they actually give him the time of day. He feels alienated so of course he hangs out with people who accept him. Who wouldn't?

As a white man I am sick of the behaviour of many white women who no longer know how to be a wife to men who want to be good husbands and raise a family.
I think a lot of black women have the same values as I have but are forced to marry in their groups.

One thing I've noticed in life is that there are a lot more people that want to tear others down to their level than want to build others up. People are usually just awful to one another regardless of race, gender, social status, etc. How our species accomplished anything positive in this world baffles me.
