      Honestly, this car is great with this controller and gyro setup.
      Beyond this, it just really depends on your goals.
      Fun garage drifter - do the controller and gyro and be done with it.
      Want to be the next drift king at your local track? You will need to consider the rear motor conversion, better electronics, turnbuckle kit and more.
      For now - drive it and LEARN. The learning curve is steep, so be patient.

    I went with a 4PLS radio and 2104gf receiver on my RMX 2.0 after seeing this, and it's a MASSIVE upgrade being able to activate AVCS and fine tune the strength of it. You can also adjust the trigger travel, so I gave the throttle most of travel for more control and a quicker handbrake activation at the same time. Win-win.
    Something worth noting is that you were activating AVCS through channel 3/4 gain. Though it did feel much better when turned up to positive values, I'm not sure this is true AVCS mode. If you click right on the radio there's a second page of settings where the "Gyro Mix" option is located. This is where the true AVCS mode is activated and adjusted.
    AVCS set to 100 takes away nearly all of your input, so I keep it around 70 as I find it gives enough assist without taking away your inputs so you can adjust angle and transition more properly. SO smooth.
    Next on the list is a Futaba gyro to get rid of some steering twitches, and upgraded shocks as the standard MST's seems to have absolutely no life to them. They droop so much that you have to add a ton of preload to make up for it, and at that point they're very tight with almost no travel. Not looking forward to building the shocks, but the result should be great.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  Год назад +1

      Glad the radio upgrade has helped so much!!! Agree 100% that the gyro should be next.
      I'll have to try your thoughts on AVCS settings - what you see here is directly from Futaba on how to set it...but maybe something has changed.
      Have fun!

    • @SupernovaJP
      @SupernovaJP Год назад

      @@RoadsideRC It may be a kind of redundant/convoluted setting where it's the same setting but in different places.. I was thinking channel 3/4 may just be the overall gain of the gyro while avcs is the gyro mix.
      I'll try it out more thoroughly next time, and thank you for the videos! I would not have took the plunge on the new radio and receiver without this one, and I'm so glad I did.

    Loved your content, especially when you are doing some upgrade mod comparison and then showing by actual testing whether the mod works or not. One of the questions I cannot find a good answer in the internet is: for rwd car drifting on slippery concrete surface (maybe like your garage floor), is it better to use a spool or diff. Btw, I am a user of an mst rmx 2.0 rtr, too. Loved the bang for the buck and the upgradability. The mst rmx 2.0 rtr comes with a spool and the mst rmx 2.0s kit comes with a ball diff. How about a comparison video between the two. Thanks again for the informative content!

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  4 года назад +2

      I can tell you the ball diff really does help. Yokomo also has a gear diff, and I can not for the life of me figure out how that would actually help in drifting.
      I have a RMX kit version, and a Sakura D5S also. As I was learning early on you can really tell the difference with the ball diff - and kept very loose. The spool is very twitchy. Every small throttle input makes a direct angle difference in the car. The ball diff, however let's one of the tires spin a little more and keeps the drift more steady.
      Thanks for the video idea!

      Necessary = nothing! It will drift well directly out of the box.
      The gyro and controller I recommend in this video make a large difference in performance alone.
      After that, the turnbuckle upgrade is nice for tweaking the suspension, but is certainly not necessary.

    I am looking at the GYD450, and I just noticed that Futaba says, "Only for Futaba digital servo." Is this true, or just a disclaimer related to warranty claims or a gimmick to force you to buy a new servo as well? Just curious about your experience so I know what I am getting into before I make the jump. I do not want to waste any money, will I need to buy a Futaba Digital Servo also? I want to keep the hobby as cheap as I can, but still, have fun and benefit from others experience. I am new to drifting and your channel has been THE MOST HELPFUL resource. Your video helped me understand 4wheel drift and 2RWD drift driving. Got the thunder for drift bashing on the road, but saw the limitations like you warned. Then I made some sacrifices and got into 2RWD with the MST rmx2.0 rtr all from your videos; which was too much money, but made some sacrifices to get one. Learning as much as I can. Also thinking about the turnbuckle kit, because then tuning is easy, more range of adjustability. Any thoughts, comments, or concerns with my logic are greatly appreciated. Hi Phil,
      Glad to hear my videos have been helpful!
      The GYD450 does not like analog servos. As long as you use a quality digital servo (ReveD, AGFRC, Yokomo) you will be in good shape.
      Two issues with the turnbuckle kit: 1) the MST aluminum kit is really weak and prone to breakage, 2) the factory alignment does really well, and I find most new folks tend to screw things up more than improve things when they start messing with alignment.
      I have some other videos about the better things I recommend for the MST RTR. Clearly the controller, gyro, and servo are a big deal. You didn't mention a controller - so make sure you are selecting a good one.
      After that, I like to reduce weight. Cheapo carbon fiber chassis kit.
      Then, possibly the rear motor conversion.
      FYI - my car is still running the factory non-adjustable turnbuckles!

    • @PhilMillerJustice
      @PhilMillerJustice 2 года назад

      @@RoadsideRC Woo hoo so happy you mentioned this. Yes, the first thing I did was to get a new controller, I went with the Spectrum DX5C transmitter and Spektrum SPMSR315 receiver. I hadn't seen a video from you on that, but I haven't watched all your videos, well, haven't watched them yet. So I will look for that one, and in the meantime, I will just hope I did well or at least reasonable with the controller and receiver choice I made. I did do the cheapo carbon fiber chassis (THANKS FOR THAT REVIEW), moved the ESC to the rear mounted position, motor to the high position, and the servo to the further back location. Did DS Racing Finix HF-5 because I run on polished concrete in my carport, based on your tire video about P-Tile is how I made my decision. I was now looking at servo and gyro upgrade as all the other upgrades had been much cheaper than a gyro and digital servo (also thanks for the reply and answer; I was only considering buying a digital servo, and then saw the "Only for Futaba digital servo" and balked). I thought the rmx came with a digital servo, but when I set the stock gyro to digital it behaves BAD! Stock Gyro shipped in analog mode. So, I am doing things in reverse than you suggest but mostly for cost considerations. Becuase I am thinking the stock servo is not digital I now need to do the gyro and servo together, so I am glad you are sharing all this info and confirms my approach (even if backward from your suggestions). I have no track near me, so after doing fig 8's and your "C" course I have now been drawing a few diff tracks in my two-car carport to take it to the next level. Still start EVERY session with a few 8's about 20 C's and then start running the course of the month.

    Hi from Australia. I have a couple quick questions if you could help me out. I purchased a mst rtr rmx2.0 from America as was cheaper than purchasing it in and while I'm waiting for it to arrive I've been watching your videos. So my question is can you run the older futaba 3pv transmitter with a futaba r2104gf receiver and a newer futaba 550 gyro? I have noticed that some receivers will need to run with a futaba servo. I'm starting our and don't want to outlay big $ and have to replace everything to run this setup. I would prefer I purchase these items from aus as the freight from America takes over 4 weeks. Any help would be great

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  2 года назад +1

      Two issues:
      1) the GYD550 is very complicated to tune and needs a much better controller to get the best performance. I would recommend purchasing the new GYD470 instead.
      2) Almost every gyro upgrade will need a digital servo. Plan to get one, like the ReveD RS-ST. The digital servo does not need to be a Futaba, just make sure it is digital.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  2 года назад +1

      @Curtis B Short answer: no. You will need to also change the controller and servo.
      Long answer: yes. You can swap in a new gyro only. However you will have limited functionality without a better controller. You won't really get the full benefit from it. Plus, most gyros require a digital servo, and act funny with the stock servo. Again, you can try, but just be prepared to get the servo quickly, at minimum.

      Having someone help.is very good.
      If you do not have a person, you must change items by yourself and test. That is what I had to do.

      The good news is that you can drift with it in RTR form, then upgrade the gyro and controller later.

      @@lukasgarage956 I actually spent some time in the garage doing that same thing. I hear it is a trend starting in the drift community.
      I had a rather simple course laid out, and just kept lowering my gyro gain down. Pretty sure I got to around 30% before it was just painfully bad.
