brought the GYD470 with your advice (never before have i fitted or had to set up a gyro) and with your setup video tutorial ive set it up so easily, hassle free, not one problem and running perfectly first time!! thanks Roadside RC 🙏
Dear friend. My name is Marcelo and it's been a few years since I found myself stuck in the hobby. In mid-2010 I started in rc drift, scale 1:10 and from then on it became a passion despite not practicing much. At the time it was the awd until the rwd came along. Well, today after leaving my country of origin and selling almost all my cars I'm building a drift car, which I'll use just for fun.The chassis in the case is a GRK EVO2 Shibata R31house, which I'm building and updating little by little. This chassis came to me basic but I'm providing the necessary upgrades without overspending. The electronics part, which I think is the most important, followed by shock absorbers and springs, is the one I'm having a problem with that I haven't faced in a long time, because a lot has changed in recent years. I have a Sanwa M12 radio, Sanwa Rx-472 SSL receiver ref. 92015. Esc I still haven't defined which engine it will be but something that is no more than 13.5T since it will not be a car for competition. Drift 4 fun! :) That said, I bought a FUTABA BLS371SV (HV S-BUS 2) servo from a friend that arrived for me yesterday. Perfect, until I was told that not every gyro gets along with a Futaba servo. Much has been said in the group I participate in but as always there is no cohesive and technical information. Not even some friends from Japan, who practice the hobby, know what I should adopt as a gyro for this scenario. Well, some options were given to me and I'll try to summarize here: 1 - that I sell the servant and buy another. This option is out of the question at least at first; 2 - that used gyro from OMG V4. (there are people though who told me that using that gyro was all a matter of luck); 3 - that used the Yokomo DP-302V4 3Ch gyro. Like the OMG, it has End point regulation. And for the value being close it would be a good choice; 4 - Like the previous gyro, the previous owner of the servo in question, he uses or used the Yokomo YG-302V2 3Ch gyro, without having incompatibility problems; 5 - I decided myself to go after a satisfactory answer that would convince me that I would not choose a wrong gyro, thus spending money that I cannot easily replace. I ended up watching your video about the Futaba GYD470 gyro and it seemed, so far, the best option given the cost and ease of operation and also because it is the same brand as the servo. And I liked what I saw. Put that above, I ask: Among the options presented, which ones are compatible with this servo (Futaba BLS371SV) using radio (Sanwa M12 radio system with RX472 SSLreceiver set) and which would be the best option for cost/benefit. Because I'm building a car for fun and not for competition. Thanks a lot. Best regards.
Hi Marcelo! I am glad to help you on your drifting journey! Unfortunately, I do not have experience with that specific Futaba servo and the Sanwa controllers - so my experience is not very helpful for you. It is well documented that Futaba servos work well with Futaba gyros - but some radio systems do not cooperate with Futaba gyros. Without having tested this specifically myself, I do not want to lead you the wrong direction. I am sorry I can not be more help.
So I have the GYD550 and I totally agree with it being pretty complicated and not newbie friendly (i.e. Me) so I lost interest driving. Then I finally see this video and see how you adjusted your avcs/normal mode being that I have the same controller and that little detail has me excited to drive again bc it changed dramatically how the car felt for the better. So thank you for this video!
Troy, let me start by saying your channel is Fantastic and you are the best reviewer on youtube. I am just getting into the drift scene. I have the chance to purchase the gyd450 and the gyd470 for the same price. Which would you recommend? Thanks for your time.
I like the shot that included both the transmitter and the car really helps visually demonstrate the different modes. I think hocking up a small fast servo with a pointer in-between the receiver and gyro would make your steering inputs on the transmitter better to film and more clear. Did you try to turn down the gain on avcs mode? I usually run my gyd450 at about 50-55 in avcs mode
I got one of these for my sons RRX build for Christmas. I briefly tried it in my FXX and I too felt like it was in AVCS in normal mode and I hated it lol. But maybe it'll work for my son who will still be learning. This is my first experience with Futaba gyros so I just thought they were all that way.
I love your channel and bought most of my setup based off of your reviews. Tonight was my first drift session with the club and I've ran into some issues. The main one is when adjusting the gain up or down on either the controller or on the gyro itself affects steering trim. Turn the gyro up to max and it's great fast steering with great angles but too sensitive and keeps trying to straighten me out rather than slide. Turn it down and the steering becomes really slow and limits the amount of angle on steering to the point that the steering barely turns and gyro is on low. Turn it off completely and the steering is quick and responsive with great angles again. Currently running the GYD 470, injora injs014 servo and dumboRC controller. Really not sure where to begun so any help on adjusting gain without affecting steering inputs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Yes! This is an odd thing with the GYD470. You must set the gyro gain - and then set the steering endpoints. Then, you must reset it every time you change the gain. Good news - once you get the gain where you want it, you will typically not change it anymore.
@RoadsideRC Okay so how exactly do you do this? Would setting the gain be done on the controller first and then set up end points on controller or gyro?
@RoadsideRC Thanks very much. I've set it up and while it's still not as responsive as the rest of the clubs cars it's much better than it was. Still slows down between 60-100 on the steering trim getting slower the higher the number but does eventually reach full lock. I tend to run my gyro on a lower setting (currently 35 on normal mode as on slow return the steering is just far too slow)
So helpful! I bought a 470 on the back of this video. I see when looking for a servo (on AMain) that it says “compatible with Futaba servos only”. Hoping you can confirm this is not the case? Doesn’t look like it based on this video or your one on the 450.
… kept reading to bottom comments and found the answer. I really enjoy the SAVOX so will seek that out. Unless you reco otherwise ;) I assume we’re looking for speed rather than torque when it comes to drift servos?
I suggest going with a drift specific servo. For the price of your savox, go with the ReveD RS-ST. It will allow you opportunity to tune the servo later to better work with your setup.

Hi Troy hoping you can help me out with this. Just bought the GYD470 and I have a radio link 8 channel radio and receiver has a builted gyro for. Want to put the gyro in it but I've heard a lot of feedback that that gyro doesn't work well with that radio. So if you could give me some insight on this some suggestions for a good gyro I may work with that radio too if this one doesn't work right thank you for your time you dedication to your channel I appreciate it You've been real helpful.
I have found that endpoints is usually not the cause of wheels locking to one side or the other. With a proper alignment, they just won't. There are also steering stoppers on many knuckles that help prevent any over-extension of the steering. When in doubt - leave the steering end points at 100% and just limit the gyro end points.
Is that track in someone's garden 🤔 Do a video on that, Construction and how you look after it, Probably not a good idea to have a outdoor track hear in England 😂

Does futaba gyd470 works on yokomo stock transmitter… and how do i set up the is i use only the stock transmitter thanks a lot… more power to the channel😊
Hello! Unfortunately, the stock controller is VERY limiting. In order to use this gyro, you would need to leave the gain channel unplugged. Then, set the gain amount using the potentiometer on the gyro. A controller upgrade will help a lot.
Did you test this gyd470 on Spektrum system? Mine just jitters on movement and no steering input comes through from transmitter. Tried rebinding at 22ms but no luck. Gyd 450 works great on spektrum
Says the futaba gyro is only compatible w futaba digital servos. But I see you running a rev d. I assume that statement isn’t true? What are your thoughts?
Having issues with this gyro. Can't get any steering respise from the radio. I'm using a radiolink rc6gs v2 with a radiolink r6f receiver. The gyro counter steers when I move the chassis but no response with input from the radio. Paired with a yokomo sp-02d v2 servo. Any help would be appreciated.
It is a GREAT gyro, but some folks do have trouble getting it to work with specific radios. That specific Radiolink might be one of them. Here is where I used it with a RC8X, perhaps it will give you some ideas: ruclips.net/video/NjCHgCbyj6g/видео.html
Hey Troy! Me again.... LOL Have you ever used a SBUS receiver with this Gyro, it's saying not to connect the gain and to go straight from the Rx channel to the SBIS on the receiver. Do I still control the game through channel 3 cuz that's what it's looking like in the instructions
Sorry - I don't usually mess with SBUS. Follow the instructions and see what happens, but make sure you are using the proper controller as well. They will have a gyro-specific section for SBUS.
@@RoadsideRC I have the Futaba T4PM Plus, Futaba R304SB-E, Futaba GYD-470. I wish there was a way for me to show you this SD 2.0 I just built! It's insane!
@@RoadsideRC So I tried hooking up through the SBUS and I kept getting a Comm Error :( I did get it hooked up the regular way, and OMG this thing is amazing. I can't believe the difference between my SD 2.0 with this Gyro in it and the Hexfly that comes in the Redcat RDS. Now I just have to go to your XR-10 settings video to program this XD-10 in this thing! The Reve-D servo seems slow, do you turn that up with the programmer? I haven't looked into the Steering Servo settings yet. on the Redcat, when I changed the steering servo, it made a huge difference, but it changed the akerman from your settings video because the akerman plate is held higher with the new servo, I'm still trying to dial that one in to be more stable, I get a Yokomo V-4 Gyro for that one tomorrow :)
hey troy, back with more RMX questions lol. going to pick up my 470 today from the local shop and was wondering if you're aware of any issues that arise with this gyro and the stock transmitter pertaining to how much ability you get adjusting the gyro sensitivity.
Stock RTR transmitter? Yes - very difficult to set the gyro endpoint with the stock transmitter. I believe it will be best to also upgrade the controller.
@@RoadsideRC just picked it up.. not able to buy a new transmitter yet so thanks for the heads up, any easy way to get it done/get around the issues until i can get one ?
@@JRXSE You will have to set the gyro gain on the gyro itself. Just don't even plug the third channel in. Since you already bought it - might as well try it. It will be good for you once you also have a new controller.
finally setting it up- channel 1 on the receiver is plugged into the rightmost port on the gyro, servo is plugged into the leftmost, middle one's empty and not plugged into ch. 3 on receiver as you said, how do i get it to where it adjusts the end points? is that even possible with the stock transmitter?
I have gyd470 with a yokomo v2 servo, it's slow to return, end points are narrow even on max (not a lot of turn) and really undriveable, what have I done wrong?
Also, I’m upgrading from stock 2.5 rtr, is there any servo/gyro combo you recommend. Is the combo you’re running here really working good? Are you still rocking the gyd470?
Badly! 1 - it is too sensitive for the bumps and jumps. 2 - it is made to help you maintain a drift. You would want something that helps straighten you out.
Just bought this gyro, for Mst rmx2.5 rtr. I put in my spectrum radio and connect everything and I’m getting no steering can’t set up endpoints non responsive. Anyone have insight on set up? Using a dx5c? Did I get a dud?
The Futaba gyros really don't like working with Spektrum electronics. Honestly, I found most drift stuff doesn't - unfortunately. You will either need to go back to your previous gyro for now - or go ahead and get a different radio. My best performance has come with Futaba or Flysky Noble.
Yes. My unpopular opinion is that the Yokomo V4 is outdated. It is really time for them to release a V5. There are more modern gyros out now that feel better. But - since it is a "feel" thing, it is different for every person.
i installed this gyro and when powered up a green light blinks and then goes out. it steers left/right but when i pick up the back of the car and move it nothing happens. this is a new build .
Which Radiolink? I have a new video coming out testing this with the RC8X - it worked fine. I had a viewer try to use the RC6, and it didn't work very well.
If you are using it with the RC4G or RC6G, you have to use the receiver without the built in Gyro. If you do, the Futaba gyro will have an issue with initialization. I am using a RC4GS with the R4F receiver and it works fine.
Hey man, just bought my first MST rmx, what would you recommend as the first upgrades as I starting going into the electronics? Different videos from different people all say something different lol
This is the video on it: ruclips.net/video/QEhS94kLJ6c/видео.html Gyro, controller, and servo all go together...and make a HUGE difference. If you have the newer edition of the RTR with the MGX gyro, then the need is not as dire. :) Still, a proper gyro is worth it's weight in gold for drifting.
I figured the transmitter would be one of the first upgrades I go with as it will make programming everything else a lot more simple, thank you from Reno Nv
Can you compare remote controllers ? Radiolink vs sanwa or futaba in terms of single and pare racing ? In my drift community the radiolink controller is not being respected, i believe mostly because of delay (some people say there is not everything good with reability).
In my personal experience, the Sanwa and Futaba both work MUCH better than the Radiolink. There is something odd with the Radiolink that seems to make the control not quite precise.
@@RoadsideRC I seem to be able to over ride the gyro at higher setting's when I'm used to the gyro only let me have so much control this gyro seem's to let me fully operate the servo after I have gone into the drift
You said your son went from the DP-302 V4 to GYD450 and felt it was better. Did you happen to test the difference yourself? Or the 550? I’m 100% new to drift, haven’t even bought yet… so trying to decide on RTR (& upgrades) vs kit. Like the YD-2Z line. I’m only going to be solo outside on asphalt, my cement patio, or a garage like you. So I am trying to balance out my tendency to want to buy high end stuff versus how much of an expense really makes sense. We don’t have a drift club in town. Car but no drift aspect. Only know two other people that have drift cars. so it’s never likely that they will be an indoor drift track
Hi there! You gave me some KEY info there. Even if you already have other RC experience, setting up the components for a drift car is REALLY different and frequently requires guidance from folks who have done it before. If you don't have that community around you...AND you don't have a track near you where things are likely to get competitive - SAVE YOUR MONEY and get the RTR. I promise, this is the way. Both the MST and Yokomo RTRs are pretty good out of the box, with the MST slightly better. Both get much better with upgrades, which are easier to do step-by-step instead of trying to jump into setting it all up at once. Feel free to come back and ask questions along the way.
Basically any TSM, AVC, or similar will work. Which controller do you have? Even a cheapo $50 Dumbo RC controller has a built-in gyro for what you need.
Any chance you could test the GYD470 with the Noble NB4? I have tried the GYD470 on a Spektrum DX3R and some cheaper (but programmable TX's) and I get no TX controlled steering, but gyro steering works fine. If I unplug the Gyro and connect steering servo directly to RX, steering works fine. I don't want to buy the NB4 and find the same issue, but if someone can confirm it works, I'll order one. Futaba 4PM is nearly $200 more than the NB4 here in Aus.
It is great for a RWD drift car. I have personally not had much luck using GT5 controllers, as the only way to adjust fain is through the knobs on top. Good luck!
It is Futaba's term for the smoothing out of inputs. No clue what the actual letters stand for. It is a setting they offer on most of their gyros. It really helps reduce gyro wobble.
So, I really don't like the AVCS mode on the GYD450, I run normal mode and love it. I should stick with a 450 for my second car ? how is the ReveD feel versus GYD normal and AVCS ?
Que beleza vou colocar um deste no meu carro. pois o que tenho nao esta bom . Nao consigo controlar o carro. Marca do que tenho . RBR/C . R484S Gyro. Acho que esta marca é muito ruim. Gostei de seu Video . Vai me ajudar muito. Abraço Roberto Q .Mello
they claim that " NOTE: This is only compatible with Futaba Digital Servos." perhaps thats the reason it felt strange, anyways expensive futaba staff that i wouldnt bother to buy.
I pair up my GYD550 with OMG servo before and works perfectly fine. For tuning convenience, suggest CT500 which is good enough. Tuning adjustment from your transmitter, no more USB stick, laptop or programming card.
Futaba USA told me that they just “haven’t tested” it with any other servos. So it should work with all servos, but they would obviously prefer if you bought a Futaba servo so…

Here is where I used it with a RC8X, perhaps it will give you some ideas:

Hey Troy! Me again.... LOL
Have you ever used a SBUS receiver with this Gyro, it's saying not to connect the gain and to go straight from the Rx channel to the SBIS on the receiver.
@@RoadsideRC just picked it up.. not able to buy a new transmitter yet so thanks for the heads up, any easy way to get it done/get around the issues until i can get one ?
would it be worth the trouble to switch from an LSD gyro?
@@JRXSE You will have to set the gyro gain on the gyro itself. Just don't even plug the third channel in.
Since you already bought it - might as well try it. It will be good for you once you also have a new controller.
finally setting it up- channel 1 on the receiver is plugged into the rightmost port on the gyro, servo is plugged into the leftmost, middle one's empty and not plugged into ch. 3 on receiver as you said, how do i get it to where it adjusts the end points? is that even possible with the stock transmitter?
Which is the diference between GYD and GYC? 470
The "D" is for drift. They are set to help the car maintain drift.
That carpet track looks like it’s permanently outside. What type of carpet is that?
It is standard RC race carpet. He keeps it covered when not in use. Not sure how long it will last.
I have gyd470 with a yokomo v2 servo, it's slow to return, end points are narrow even on max (not a lot of turn) and really undriveable, what have I done wrong?
You may need the Yokomo servo programmer to get it set correctly.
@@RoadsideRC I'll try that! Thanks!
should i be worried if my servo is making a small buzzing noise when it moves
how should i fix it if it is not a good thing?
Depending on the brand, no. Many servos make noise.
Also, I’m upgrading from stock 2.5 rtr, is there any servo/gyro combo you recommend. Is the combo you’re running here really working good? Are you still rocking the gyd470?
Here are all of the parts I recommend: ruclips.net/video/4-XKFoO-fO0/видео.html
I have had good luck with all of them.
Im thinking about pairing this with a Noble NB4, do you miss out on any features not having a futaba radio linked to it?
Nope! Would work great with the NB4!
Any thoughts how well this would work for off-road tracks?
Would you recommend this gyro over a yokomo v4 or vice versa
You need to adjust your gyro gain. No LED means the gain is set at zero.
thank you that was driving me crazy.@@RoadsideRC
Can I used a radio link rx/tx with this gyro? I just ordered a rmx kit today and this was the gyro I went with.
This is the video on it: ruclips.net/video/QEhS94kLJ6c/видео.html
Gyro, controller, and servo all go together...and make a HUGE difference.
If you have the newer edition of the RTR with the MGX gyro, then the need is not as dire. :)
Still, a proper gyro is worth it's weight in gold for drifting.
What’s is that track made of? I know the rc carpet but what about the base and stuff?
It is a simple wood frame underneath the carpet.
Is the reved servo compatible with the gyd470? Does it make a good combo?
Yes - makes a good combo.
Troy. Have you figured this gyro out yet. I installed mine at the weekend and it feel's wierd. 😬
What specifically are you looking for help with?
@@RoadsideRC I seem to be able to over ride the gyro at higher setting's when I'm used to the gyro only let me have so much control this gyro seem's to let me fully operate the servo after I have gone into the drift
@@eastyorkshiredriftrc Maybe post a video to your channel and let me know when it is out there? I am struggling to follow what is happening. Sorry.
Yea I saw your post on Reddit. About it. But I don't really understand Reddit lol. That is why I commented here. I will put a video up. Thank's.
The AVCS mode still felt “worse” with less gyro gain?
What performed better?
Normal mode gyd470 or AVCS mode gyd450?
Normal mode GYD470 is the winner!
@@RoadsideRC thanks! Ordered one! 👍
Can i use my radiolink rc4gs receiver with this gyro ???
Yes. Just ensure you turn off the built-in gyro on that receiver.
@@RoadsideRC oh perfect I have the R6F receiver definitely wants to try a different gyro
@@RoadsideRC thanks for your reply 🙂 I am really enjoying watching your videos. Learning a lot.
I only Need a gyro to go straight stable not to drift i only have a 2ch normal Controller do you know the right gyro for me?
Basically any TSM, AVC, or similar will work. Which controller do you have?
Even a cheapo $50 Dumbo RC controller has a built-in gyro for what you need.
@@RoadsideRC thanks for your reply, i have a Absima CR2S.V2
Any chance you could test the GYD470 with the Noble NB4?
I have tried the GYD470 on a Spektrum DX3R and some cheaper (but programmable TX's) and I get no TX controlled steering, but gyro steering works fine. If I unplug the Gyro and connect steering servo directly to RX, steering works fine. I don't want to buy the NB4 and find the same issue, but if someone can confirm it works, I'll order one. Futaba 4PM is nearly $200 more than the NB4 here in Aus.
Uploading a video for you now!!! Created it just because you asked.
Here it is: ruclips.net/video/dIxjniI7fW4/видео.html
Sorry it took awhile for me to respond.
@@RoadsideRC No Problem. I appreciate the effort you have made to prepare and upload the new video. Many Thanks.
So would this gyro work good on a mst rmx 2.0 with a flysky gt5 transmitter and receiver?
It is great for a RWD drift car.
I have personally not had much luck using GT5 controllers, as the only way to adjust fain is through the knobs on top.
Good luck!
@@RoadsideRC yea that’s what I was going to use was the knob on the top
Aye How do I speed mine UP
What specifically are you trying to speed up?
what the heck does avcs mean
It is Futaba's term for the smoothing out of inputs. No clue what the actual letters stand for. It is a setting they offer on most of their gyros. It really helps reduce gyro wobble.
@@RoadsideRCmost likely “active vehicle control “
So, I really don't like the AVCS mode on the GYD450, I run normal mode and love it. I should stick with a 450 for my second car ? how is the ReveD feel versus GYD normal and AVCS ?
I think you would prefer the ReveD. It feels more like the 450 to mem
@@RoadsideRC Thanks for the feedback. And keep up the good work with your video!
Que beleza vou colocar um deste no meu carro. pois o que tenho nao esta bom . Nao consigo controlar o carro. Marca do que tenho . RBR/C . R484S Gyro. Acho que esta marca é muito ruim. Gostei de seu Video . Vai me ajudar muito. Abraço Roberto Q .Mello
Roberto - que bom que o vídeo ajudou! Boa sorte com a instalação.
they claim that " NOTE: This is only compatible with Futaba Digital Servos." perhaps thats the reason it felt strange, anyways expensive futaba staff that i wouldnt bother to buy.
They have been putting that on all of their gyros, but they work just fine with any other digital servo.
