Thank you for posting. You’re one of the people that pushed me into buying my first drift car. I purchased the Yokomo YD-2Z about a month ago and it’s fun but I feel it’s missing something. Unfortunately there’s hardly any videos or online material to read on how to set up a drift car and what to look and feel for.

@@RoadsideRC it could be a “me” issue with the lack of experience but it feels like the car isn’t really drifting. Does lots of donuts and maybe a small glimpse of drifting. I watched Jeff Yang’s channel on basic setup (he has his car -2 degrees camber for the rear and -3.5 degrees camber for the front and slightly some toe out). You and a couple others I’ve watched make the drifting so easy and the guys barely turn the steering wheel. So my other issue is maybe my transmitter isn’t setup for drifting? Here’s my setup: Yokomo YD-2Z, Reedy 1000Z plus ESC, Reedy 540 Sonic 6.5 turn sensor motor (the motor’s power is turned down through the transmitter both electronics were originally from a no prep drag racing car), Yokomo SP-02D V2 servo, and Yokomo DP-302 V4 (settings on channel 3 set high (85 to 100 percent gyro, and assist- green light come on vs. the red light- normal?). Transmitter settings (Futaba 4PLS)expo steering 7/FWD 15, Speed 100 return throttle 75, Endpoints 86 left 87 right, throttle 75. On the ESC the settings are are at default settings (about middle of the road). I tried turning everything down and it was ok. The default settings seemed to wake it up some. One last issue, are there any tires that can drift on carpet (medium shag for homes or indoor track at my local hobby shop)? Michigan’s weather isn’t cooperating and I hope I don’t have to wait for spring and summer to use the car. Thank you and hopefully the information I gave you can give you an idea what I’m working with.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  Год назад

The gyro gain is high, and the gyros are very sensitive. They see every little movement of the car and react.
      You need to either:
      1) turn down the gyro gain, or
      2) upgrade to a gyro and servo combo that allows some dampening to reduce the gyro wobble while running higher gains.

    • @RoadsideRC

Spinning out is usually due to two things:
      - too much throttle, too much angle

    • @RoadsideRC

      Wheelbase is around 257mm.
      Width is around 200mm.
Honestly - converting a drag slash would be a really bad idea.
These are purpose-built chassis for doing this. The cheapest chassis can be had for around $100-200, and a full RTR can be had for less than $400. Trying to convert a Slash would require more time and $$$, and you would end up with a worse performing vehicle.

The ESC calibration steps are rather simple - I assume you have the instructions.
Typically, when it won't calibrate, it is because it is not seeing the controller inputs. Make sure the throttle trim is zeroed, fresh batteries are in the controller, and it is bound to the receiver correctly.

Hey! Are you still actively replying to comments??? Would love to get ahold of you if you would be so kind to help me with some troubleshooting issues I’m having. I loved my drift car! I have always been obsessed with drifting. Whether it was movies, video games, in my own car, etc, if it was about drifting, I was ALL IN! I always loved seeing videos of RC drifting and INSTANTLY fell in love with the hobby. Like everything else I’m super interested in, I dove head first into researching everything I could about the hobby. Sadly I wasn’t prepared to see the amount of money I would need to spend to even get a slightly legit setup. I couldn’t afford a luxury like that at all growing up and was even harder to save the money as an adult. I finally was able to save up enough money at 26 years old 😂🤦‍♂️that I could actually use on something expensive that was SOLELY a gift to myself. I bought the ENTIRE setup for my rc drift car all at once. It cost me like 6-800$ and that’s not including all the rims and accessories I bought for it. I was in love. It was the closest thing to professional drifting I could experience with a sick car lol. I definitely couldn’t afford an ACTUAL Honda NSX. Anyway, I bought it from my local hobby store which also has an rc drift track which customers can use freely during store hours for 10$ a day. From the very first day I purchased my car, I was at the store open to close drifting on their track. I spent tons of money and became close to the stores employees, made new friends, and was fully invested and in love with this hobby. Because of my knowledge and experience with drifting concepts, and knowing the physics and all that jazz, I had the hang of it and was drifting like a semi pro within 5 mins. Within the same 2 weeks I bought it, and was at the store every day and never used it outside of the store, my car was acting weird and not really responsive to my controller. Mid run, it just stopped in it’s tracks and eventually wasn’t responding at all except the wheels would turn 1/20 times for a split second when I would mess with the controller. When I got my employee friend/ rc drift Sensei to look at it, the motor/ main components with the fan started smoking. At this point the car was completely unresponsive to remote. The guys at the store tried to help me, and told their boss the issue and even reminded him of how I just got it less than 2 weeks ago and how much I support the store. I was told by the store owner that they were going to try and contact supplier to see about a replacement kit or at least about a replacement part since it definitely wasn’t because of wear or age etc. i returned every day for the next week asking about it and the owner just shut me down every time. Clearly didn’t want to help me. It really turned me off to the hobby and really hurt spending all that money and supporting his store just to be told to screw off basically when my brand new car malfunctioned for reasons completely out of my control. That was over 3 years ago and I really really miss the hobby and drifting my car and customizing it and using the track with friends. Please help me with my problem so I can love this hobby again and put this beautiful, awesome, rc drift machine to good use!!!! What do you think the problem is??
Car stopped mid session. Battery full in car and controller.
No response from controller no matter how many times we tried resetting the car or changing batteries etc. guys at store tried everything.
Smoke comes from main component in center of of car with the fan and 3 wires coming from it. Wasn’t being driven, just turned on at the counter and not responding as usual but this time it started smoking.
Still gets power to car, doesn’t respond. Doesn’t turn wheels anymore when turned on.
I would REALLY APPRECIATE any advice or help that you may have. If we can email or something so I can show you the problem with a video or pics, I would gladly pay you for your time and diagnosis! Cheers. Thanks for reading! Hope to hear from you

      Hi there!
That component that smoked was the ESC. Sounds like a bad connection in it. Good news - you should be able to get a replacement rather cheaply.
From what you have said so far, I am assuming you have the MST RMX2.0- but let me know if I am wrong.
You will probably want an ESC like this one: ruclips.net/video/LPVY8W74l5c/видео.htmlsi=Jy5t-V2k54qHJB3w
