What I absolutely love about your channel is that unlike many Apple enthusiasts you never brag about how superior Apple is, you’re just really excited about it and it’s your favorite ecosystem but I never feel any smugness coming from you about it, only your own passion! It’s really nice.
Chris, to use an iMac as an external monitor for MBP, look into Target Display Mode. I’ve used it for years. Connect MBP to iMac with correct cable and hit Command-F2. Viola, your iMac is now an external monitor. Now if you’re like me you’d be upset that you have now lobotomized your iMac and turned it into just a monitor. But wait, you can use screen sharing to connect from MBP to iMac, maximize screen and now you can four finger swipe to get your iMac screen, then four fingers swipe back to get your MBP with external monitor. Best of both worlds. And all built-in to macOS.
Keith Garred doesn’t target display only work with iMacs up to 2014? Later ones no longer have this feature. I use Target Display to connect my maxed out 2015 MacBook Pro to my IMac 2013, which is incredibly slow compared to the SSD in the MacBook Pro. It’s annoying that you have to use the keyboard of the iMac to switch it on and off- I can’t simply use 1 wireless keyboard for both. What would be better wold be having a way to select it without the keyboard. The screen sharing you mentioned might help a little though. Thanks!
Funny thing, CleanMyMacX I used, and afterwards i realized it had deleted system preferences. I’m telling you now, your Mac is practically useless after you’ve deleted that. SO beware what you are doing if you are using it, it can delete a lot of things by accident.

I only use Safari on Macs, never installs something else, Safari is perfect (on Windows and Linux, I use Firefox). It might have a problem with some Google stuff just like Firefox, but that's how Google is almost creating a monopoly with their browser technology, and I don't like that, so I refuse to use Chrome or chrome-based browsers because of that.
@@milesparker557 No, what Apple is doing something different than it used to do. The prof of it is that there's even an Apple TV app for Samsung TVs now, and an Apple Music app for Android for quite some time, as well as iCloud for Windows. And they're services and devices certainly don't restrain the competition. Even if these things became the most used on the market, Apple is just there doing it's thing. What google tries to do with it's browser engine is something much worse, at this point there's many sites (not just form Google) that just don't work as well (or just don't work at all) on other browsers. @DailyTekk One of the best apps not mentioned here is No Sleep. You add it to your mac menu bar and it allows you to keep your mac on when the lid is closed. You may ask why you would want this. My main reason is to listen to music while the lid is closed and the screen is off. Although as a warning you should be careful not to turn on no sleep and put your mac into a backpack as it can heat up too much.

you know you can turn off sleep and screensaver so the mac sill never sleep and never go into screensaver. unless you are in an environment where you need to save every milliwatt of power and protect your screen from unauthorized views sleep and screensavers are useless. most macs use so little power it does not make sense to conserve power. it is probably mostly on by default because apple is probably trading carbon credits and wants to earn the "greenest company" award today's displays are lcd so burn in is a thing of the past even the ghosting and stuck pixels that plagued the mac powerbook 100 series from the 80s where if you leave the screen on you may get glitchy lines tearing off windows when you move them and to fix it you had to shut down the mac for something like 24 hours then start it up and put it to sleep for another 24 hours to completely clean the screen is long gone. one exception is plasma tvs they even today suffer from burn in as they use a high voltage vacuum tube phosphor based display. the only improvements to lcds that can be done now is getting their response fast enough to allow for high motion and high framerates needed for todays video games and movies so you dont get blurring and tearing.

Pretty sure you can plug you display port from your MacBook Pro to the old iMac and I believe hit shift F2 and the iMac turns into a second display.
Yeah, I’ve been doing this for over a year using a 27” mid 2010 iMac as a display for my 27” late 2015 iMac. It’s called “Target Display Mode”, and you have to make sure you either use an actual display port cable (this may be called mini or micro something, I can’t remember, but it’s the one with the Thunderbolt 2 type of connector on both ends and either the computer monitor symbol or no symbol-not the one with the lightning bolt) and not a Thunderbolt 2 cable unless both Macs are Thunderbolt 2 capable. But the display port cables are much cheaper than thunderbolt anyway. For some reason it took me awhile to figure out that this was even possible and how to do it even though I searched the internet. There was limited and conflicting info, often incorrect, and there are some limitations as far as which Macs you can use on either side of the connection. I don’t have the info handy, but at least anybody reading this will know there is a way to do it for some models, and you can even test yours without searching for any further info just by connecting the two Macs and pressing Command F2 on the one you want to use as the second screen. You can even do this at the login screen without entering login info. And by the way, you CAN’T use two display port to HDMI adaptors with an HDMI cable strung between them. I wasted a lot of time trying to get this to work, and I tried everything up to and including using the force to try to will it to work (I apparently suck as a Jedi tho, and I can’t make anything else work with the force either, so more force to you if you wanna try this approach), but you gotta have EITHER the display port cable OR a thunderbolt 2 cable (thunderbolt 2 cable works only if you have two Macs that BOTH support thunderbolt 2 AND support target display mode for their respective sides of the configuration). Also, display port cables actually aren’t as easy to find locally as you might imagine, so unless you’re in a big city you’ll probly have to order one. If you know your machine supports target display mode, save yourself some time and go ahead and order the display port cable now. Nothing else you think you’re going to rig up is going to work, and you’re probly going to waste a lot of time trying to acquire a cable locally so you can have your second display today. Otherwise, you will end up with a display cable arriving in the mail a week later like a freaking moron that’s too stubbornly convinced that what ought to work should work and will work. Like every single thing to do with every single iPad-no, that’s not gonna work that way. You’re wrong, follow the exact instructions only-there’s something inside every connector, piece of hardware, nut and bolt that tells the device not to function if it’s not the EXACT piece of hardware specified in “The Instructions”, all the way down to brand, manufacture date, facility location, line manager, and family name of the child who finished the part. But whatever route you take to get there, this setup is absolutely awesome, and if you have an old Mac just collecting dust you have to at least try this.

10$ a month to have a note taking app on my iMac? That's ludicrous.
you know you can turn off sleep and screensaver so the mac sill never sleep and never go into screensaver.
unless you are in an environment where you need to save every milliwatt of power and protect your screen from unauthorized views sleep and screensavers are useless.
most macs use so little power it does not make sense to conserve power.
it is probably mostly on by default because apple is probably trading carbon credits and wants to earn the "greenest company" award
today's displays are lcd so burn in is a thing of the past even the ghosting and stuck pixels that plagued the mac powerbook 100 series from the 80s where if you leave the screen on you may get glitchy lines tearing off windows when you move them and to fix it you had to shut down the mac for something like 24 hours then start it up and put it to sleep for another 24 hours to completely clean the screen is long gone.
one exception is plasma tvs they even today suffer from burn in as they use a high voltage vacuum tube phosphor based display.
the only improvements to lcds that can be done now is getting their response fast enough to allow for high motion and high framerates needed for todays video games and movies so you dont get blurring and tearing.
