Duran makes it look so easy. Damn he was slick. Just dancing, purring the jab, and using his footwork and head movement. His hands were like bricks also

Social media didn't exist back then duh. Durán used to trash talk a lot and was disrespectful, if socials existed back then no doubt he'd talk a lot. Mike Tyson tried to kill his sparring partners on the daily, theres plenty videos of it, imagine if social media existed back then, we would have even more videos of that

The fight that garnered my respect for Duran was his title fight against Barkley. Too old, to small, gave away everything, yet showed that he also had great skill, and skills pay the bills. That fight reminded me of Pacquiaos win over Thurman. Old figter past prime, schooling a young strong lion.

Boxing fans this is boxing sparring. Not the social media BS you see where dudes try to play tough or "expose" boxers they don't like or care for. You see his subtle movements and ring movement today they would say, "Oh, that's running." It would be a running meme after the match if he did too much moving working the angles and setups. Good jab parrying/slipping in this one. He saw the turns where he could've got clipped or rocked. Files it away upstairs - muscle memory. Light work. But it goes into the fight night collective. Thus the quality we saw from him was far superior than what dudes call boxing nowadays. Who they use matters as partners. Tomorrow he may shift and work on other parts to what he used in the fight against Ray like working out clinches, just footwork or setting traps, etc. I love this stuff. It's like weightlifting leg day or chest day.

Sparring I’d like to see but apparently might not exist in any fashion was Marvin Hagler working with the Weaver triplets in 1987 (Palm Springs). Marvin was starting to slow and occasionally looked poor and off balance. Lee Samuels (Top Rank) and Richie Sandoval (speaking in between rounds here) both mentioned this after Marvin’s fight with SRL.

Duran was too old and too small for Leonard, Duran did well in the first fight because Leonard knew this and tried to fight Duran one on one. Once Leonard realize he could not beat Duran, it was on to the races and Duran was not fast enough to catch up or strong enough to hurt Leonard with one punch. Landing more than one punch at a time was impossible for Duran because Leonard was a great imitator of Seattle Slew.
