Pipino was never the same after he was tamed by one of the greatest welterweight punchers ever, but Duran's abilities were on a whole other level and had freak natural abilities that alllowed him to move up in weight without losing much
Duran didn't really lose his power moving up in weight. But one thing he did partially lose was his ability to land those really hard punches. At least, against the top boxers. You can go up in weight, but reach stays the same. When Duran was matched against guys who would go inside and slug with him, they usually paid dearly for it. Davey Moore was one guy. And even at 37 years old, 35lbs over his prime weight, Duran put Iran Barkley on his ass, and took his championship. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Duran is the greatest LW Champion ever. He also gets little credit for being a great defensive fighter. Leonard said after their first fight. "He is not an easy man to hit."
