Golf carts on the road are a public nuisance. I have actually seen a young girl fall out of one with her 10-year-old brother driving. Where were the parents? Who knows. Maybe on their way to jail.
In the Florida DMV manual "the law" has been that you need to have a driver's license to drive a golf cart AND the cart needs to be registered and have a license plate and be insured to drive ON A PUBLIC ROAD. Roads in communities are just as public as main roads in your city or county. Sidewalks are not for golf carts but people. And why isn't the Government concerned about seat beats for the small children who ride unattended on the back of the golf carts? Kids driving golf carts HAS always been illegal but Law Enforcement doesn't enforce it so why is this law going to be any different? All it did was change the age from 16 years old to 18 years old. If you have a Florida driver's license then you should know this information b/c it is in your manual to read b/f taking the written test.
It's as dangerous as Amish buggies...and the being driven by children is also a problem. More and more folks are putting aftermarket lights on golf carts, but not proper location, intensity, or angle to illuminate the road...the other night I was approached by a single centered "High" beam you couldn't make out what was approaching ...I stopped as I was on a small two lane residential road (no on street parking). There definitely needs to be some further tightening of the rules for these motorized vehicles. Electric vehicles are becoming more prevalent so they should meet the standard rules of the road for all lighting and indicators...it tooks years and terrible fatal collisions until the Amish finally put a flashing light on the back of buggies, not just a reflective placard... collisions still occur, especially on the hilly winding country roads.
It's funny how you will get a ticket for not wearing a seat belt or securing a child in a safety child seat, but they'll let all this go ,while in a golf cart? They need to stay on the golf course!
SEAT BELTS should have been what they passed b/c all they did w/ this stupid law was raise the age from 16 to 18 or w/ a driver's permit. It's always been in the DMV manual that we are suppose to read in order to get a license. Can't figure out why everybody thinks this is so great???? We need a law for SEAT BELTS to protect the children!!!! And then law enforcement to do thier job.
Parents need to install in their children that a golf cart is now treated like a car, they need to keep the key in their possession at ALL times because children under 18 occasionally do what they want to regardless of the rules of law on automobiles/golf carts, it is up to parents to teach and train children the rules, also if children under 18 wish to drive the gold cart then they are required to obtain a learner’s permit and the parents need to drive with them for a certain amount of hours to ensure they are safe

As someone who’s traveled both to Santa Rosa and San Destin I agree I see people on golf carts on the road stopping traffic acting crazy it’s like a stroller on wheels
A golf cart is like a small car and made for relatively smooth surfaces and golf course terrain and most are battery powered. An atv/4 wheeler is gas powered and designed to go through places where a standard golf cart wouldn't/shouldn't go through.
Another stupid Law allowing golf carts on roads with cars and trucks with no helmets and no seat belts with children. This is insane and wrong in so many ways.

Not only do I think this is a good move, I think it should be a blanket law over the entire state of Florida, not just in palm beach and the surrounding areas. In my area, I have seen children driving these carts, and I have even seen small children ( 4 - 7 yrs old ) riding in the back ( back seat, facing traffic ) In my opinion, if you can't drive a car, you should not be allowed to drive a golf cart, and that goes for all adults who have lost their licenses. I also think, that anyone riding 4 wheelers/ATV's should also require some sort of learning permit. I have seen children not only riding these on the street, but I have seen them riding them at night.
But you have exactly ZERO evidence of any harm caused. Cry more, no-IQ Trump traitor. I've seen the harm caused by crying pansies like you. What do you think we should do about the problem that is you?

I disagree some people can’t get their licenses and driving a golf cart to get to A & B helps out alot. Why can’t they just put a age restriction on using without a license?
So what I'm hearing is you would like officers to have quotas or something to make them more productive but then complain when they are more productive

I think this is going to harm some older people .some older people do not have driver's licenses. They do have a golf cart that they drive around but they never leave their community
Unfortunately, if they don't have a driver's license, there is a reason. While I empathize w/ their situation, these carts can go 35 mph and can be a deadly tool in the wrong hands. Those of us who drive legally have a 'license' for a reason.
More laws for government to bother citizens.. So many laws getting passed, one can't even live free. You have to live worrisome because you might be breaking a law for anything and everything. Smh
Let's see how it gets enforced. Any fool can pass laws but a system to enforce is what is really important. Florida is at the top with uninsured vehicles so let's see how this is enforced...
Never put one on and never will. When people understand they don't save lives smh. Cops will tell you they never unbuckled a dead person out of a seat belt. Think long and hard. It's a play on words. Leo don't unbuckle dead people. The coroner does
They briefed over the part that said all golf carts will need what cars need. Did you catch that? Trying to find more details on what is going to need to be retrofitted onto golf carts.
You’ll need to register your golf cart to certify that it meets all vehicle requirements including seatbelts, turn signals, mirrors, horn, lights, etc. Basically you’re converting your golf cart to a LSV (low speed vehicle). It’s $25.00 per year for registration. Oh yeah, and insurance will be required too.
Odd it feels like this is a good thing considering I've had one wreck into me while driving an since it isn't covered under insurance(Loop holes) I was screwed on damages. It's only not a problem till it messes with ur life. Meanwhile I'm watching 5 yr Olds up to 12-16 which I'm gona assume have no business driving alone OR without a permit/License.
Honestly I say leave golf carts as an option for people who cant get or, don't have a license anyway. Since they don't move that fast just restrict the governor device a little bit more and you won't have a problem. Something like that shouldn't go more than 20 miles an hour anyway. An example of that would be living in Arizona try walking around the block for your health you'll wind up with heat stroke.
If he has a learner's permit he's OK to drive but make sure the cart is registered and insured, that's what this new law is really about. And it's always been the law to have a DL, just never enforced well. Government DeSatan just found another way to boost revenue when what people wanted the state to do was make seat belts mandatory for underage occupants.
If you are disabled it counts as an other powered mobility device covered under the federal ADA law. Police are not allowed to ask your disability or make you prove it.
Um..... The public thoroughfares were intended for free private use. Your mode of harmless private transportation is not subject to regulation unless you endanger the public or to harm or damage property. They don't even have the lawful, constitutional Authority to require that you have a driver's license, insurance, or registration. Go read 18 USC section 31.6.
Gee Wally, I heard that guns are not the problem. I know Beaver, those gun manufacturers sure have a lot of people brainwashed so they can sell more guns.
The lady with the dog says that they don’t wait for you they will run you over with their golf cart. What makes you think that a licensed driver will not do that also? People in Florida can’t drive for crap. Even if you require a DL to drive a golf cart people will still drive bad. It’s another stupid law.
Most of those said people that can't drive for crap in Florida are from other states, so my question is how did they get their license back home where they are from, if they can't drive for crap. 85% of the people living in Florida is from some place else.
You need to make all these people driving UTV’s on city and state roads to put license on them! They use the streets and highway’s everywhere. Let them pay like the rest of us.
As a responsible UTV owner I would welcome the opportunity to legally license my UTV. I have made numerous safety modifications to my unit and have traveled to my Regional Florida Motor Vehicle Inspection Location in Palmetto in an effort to get inspected. Sadly, Florida doesn't allow a vehicle manufactured for off highway use to become street legal. Many other states do. Florida doesnt
Uh-uh, better get Mayco... This change in the law was long overdue. I see children that are barely 10 driving these carts. All that needs to happen is for some child to run into an adult, and the adult will be left with the responsibility for the accident. I'd be interested in seeing what happens in my neighborhood. I saw youngsters driving yesterday. 😮
They need to do that with RTV'S too..I don't know how many times I've had kids shoot out on the road while I've been driving ...no license no drive it on the road
Pfff I drove a golf cart when I was 10, my gramps let me drive when we were on the golf course. Not a damn thing happened. Trust me, if I got crazy while driving it my gramps would unleash his wrath. He didn't play that nonsense. Now do golf carts belong on public roads? No of course not. I do agree with that.
1544hrs. Don't believe teenagers or anyone from age 55 on down should utilize golf carts. The reasoning they zoom up n down allowed areas. They are meant for senior citizens or handicapped people. Not for joy rides. I live in FL n it's a disgrace to see youngens riding them. They even go to malls n take up handicapped parking n their 30-40 of age.
First time ever have AGREED with a new Florida law!!! Want the same law here in Indiana!, BUT also needs to cover 4-wheelers. Have seen powerful one being driven by 10-12 year old children. Several years ago a young teenager hit me in driver side front panel, he and even younger passenger went flying over car one hitting the windshield destroying it. Thankfully they got off with scrapes and bruises. But I was on the hook for nearly $2000.00 in repairs. If they had shot out of alley a few seconds soon I probably would have hit them, but they hit me AND the parents blamed me,!, which at least didn’t fly with police. Cops said their home owners insurance should cover damages , but of course they had no such insurance they were renters. Cops only gave kids and parents a scolding.
It shouldn’t be that big of an issue but I’ll see 13 yr olds driving all over town in their parents golf carts. Bicycles are on thing bc they don’t cause damage and rarely endanger other kids, but you can pack 6-8 kids in some of these golf carts maybe more
Is it state wide or just Martin County? How about places like The Villages, where folks let their grand children take their carts out. I've seen kids as young as 10 driving around.
There should be a law restricting golf carts from being on any public roadway. They have no business being on public streets. They are a big problem they do not have any safety features like cars and trucks do. And they can not keep up with them. I drive trucks making deliveries of all kinds in and out of subdivisions and have to deal with dumb people on golf carts all the time. Those running them think they are intitled to do what they want. Golfs carts DO NOT belong on ANY public road ways ONLY golf courses. Ban them ALL from public roads.
Seat belts/bumpers/insurance? Driving on sidewalks is tolerated in Palm Harbor, not sure if legal... Life threatening as theses carts cross the streets along US19 Highway...
Your statement is stupid. You have to have a license to carry a gun in the state of Florida. Only people in Florida that do not possess a license with their guns, are most likely felons. Because felons can't purchase guns legally, so most likely will not have a license.
I wish they would pass this law where I live. It's like encouraging people to drive even without Driver's licenses. It also allowing children to think it's ok to drive without even being old enuff to obtain a driver's license. Parents allow children to get out on the streets, with them not knowing the rules of the road, and as soon as something happens to them, the parents want to hold the licensed driver's accountable and file charges. It's ridiculous. Golf carts aren't designed to be on roadways along with faster moving vehicles. And children surely have no right to be out driving in traffic. Next they should pass a law to keep pets from hanging out of windows and Obstructing visibility on streets, roads and highways. We all love our pets but there are times when they might need to be left at home when it puts motorists at risk. At least this is a start hopefully to better Laws to come.
Well, for one, I don't know how they get away with 'meeting the same requirements as cars'. Any vehicle operating on public roads (at least in Florida) must have brakes on all wheels. Most of these golf cars (remember, you drive a car, you pull a cart. It's not a golf cart) DO NOT have brakes on the front wheels. Explain that little oversight to me Sherlock.

Definately support this. I live in a vacation area and way too many noisy kids are driving through our neighborhood late at night.
So it's not about safety?
Aren't gold carts electric ??
@Chuck Barquero lots of modern golf carts have loud stereos and teens on these carts tend to be loud and obnoxious
@jstorm 14 it's about quality of life
And? Many adults do the same thing.
Even 35 miles an hour is too fast for cars driving next to golf carts. A car traveling that fast can still inflict a lot damage.
And motorcycles.
Then cars need to slow the f down.
A motorized vehicle requires an operators permit if it can reach and maintain a steady speed of over 29 mph, by law!
Golf carts typically do 35!
They need to instill this rather than install this in their children

God would be so proud of your expression of free will. What say you 🧐🤔? Derek
But they get to keep the guns right🎉
I do nor agree. The law is justified. One good apple does not make the case. Drivers education is for teens! Not golf carts! It may be different if you have 20 acres for your son to practice on. But, never on public roads!
@@jamesderrico719 one good apple does not make the case? What flipping metaphor is that!? Kids these days, is it possible you mean, one bad apple spoils the whole bunch? As a senior, who uses a golfcart, I do not have a driver's license, so this totally new law doesn't permit me to use my cart in Palm Beach county! Fortunately I live in Miami-Dade!
They said it only applies to be under 18
If the entirety of Miami-Dade has been officially designated as a Golf Course Community and has had signage erected that desigbates it as such, you are correct. IF NOT, you are mistaken.
See that's the problem you want to save $ ...but use the public roads in a slow moving vehicle...then are surprised by the fatalities in that occur...even where they are designated community for use fatalities happen...a just married couple in SC driving to their reception...short marriage, the wife is dead.
Go get some sunscreen.
Florida Law is clear. The problem is far too many think it applies only to others and not to themselves.
I'm a local to gulf coast Florida and I still feel there need to be a lot more restrictions to this. We have sidewalks meant for golf carts but they aren't not used and law enforcement does nothing. I've seen so many wrecks in San Destin and Santa Rosa Beach because of golf carts. They shouldn't be on the road at all. Please poad of you car and drive it to the beach or get an Uber or something. You're endangering yourself and everyone else
"Aren't not used" means they are used.

Sidewalks are for walking
How is this a "free state" if every new law is a ban?
That's the falacy of "freedom" under a conservative government.
That’s real conservatism
Driving on county and state roads isn’t a constitutional right. You can drive down the side of the road all you want.
@@slchambers1 nope

Why stop with kids, how about anybody over 70 years of age should not be allowed to drive either
What is the difference between a golf cart and a four-wheeler
Its got ... ahaa... 4... ahaa wait. Both got 4...ahhaa... I sooooo confused🤪
I got it !!! The 4 wheeler is scary
The way you ride in it and likely top speed.
4wheeler is bike like and also probably more powerful.
A golf cart is more like a gimped buggy or UTV
A golf cart is like a small car and made for relatively smooth surfaces and golf course terrain and most are battery powered.
An atv/4 wheeler is gas powered and designed to go through places where a standard golf cart wouldn't/shouldn't go through.
Are they also allowed on the highways or turnpike?
Another stupid Law allowing golf carts on roads with cars and trucks with no helmets and no seat belts with children. This is insane and wrong in so many ways.
There really isn't a problem with children, it is more seniors without licenses and drinking.
Nice, someone just slapped the stupid blue shirt for lying to the public. They need to be accountable and stop lying to the public.
Thank you for pointing out how stupid this blue shirt really is.
We live in a golf community in the southwesr. Our HOA said ONLY people that have Driver's License can drive golf carts. I don't see snything wrong with Desantis making it a law. Some seniors let their visiting grandchildren drive their golf carts which is wrong.
@@joycepino5346 When seniors lose their license they drive golf carts. This should be interesting.
I mean let's be real for the is overpopulated with senior citizens as it is
For good cause. #1 DUI state and hit and run fatalities 😮
I live where we have legal rights very respectful and secure
We have more side by side than golf carts in Clay county Indiana
Then, do the same for common sense gun law. You Republican talk about the safety of the kids when we all know the number one killer for children is guns.
No different than the law apply for owning a car.
Except gulf carts are not owned by the NRA
Why dont you move to a gun free city like DC or $hitcago or any other gun free LibRETARDed 💩hole where you will be safe and never have to worry about those scary guns. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Or bad parenting
I bet your a hoot at parties. The same folks your complaining about can ride a bike. I would almost make a bet your a Yankee. Least sound like the idiots from North east
Kids should be able to ride they atvs for fun and it does nothing to people but cause fights because heppocreds can't let kids have fun
When a kid is riding one of those they have all the padding for them to be safe
Anyone who is against that can just move because atvs are legal for kids to ride/ drive
I disagree some people can’t get their licenses and driving a golf cart to get to A & B helps out alot. Why can’t they just put a age restriction on using without a license?
All of these vehicles should also be equipped with safety belts and rear seats should also have guard tails!
They don't enforce laws in Florida. Come on down and do whatever you want be because everyone else does.
It's selectively enforced depending on who complains and whether or not the officer(s) in the area are bored.
So what I'm hearing is you would like officers to have quotas or something to make them more productive but then complain when they are more productive
Why can't you inforce training. For younger people. They have farm equipment training and boat safety at 13. It's teaching responsibility and .
The kids are driving very fast on the roads. With out adults
Great law,we need this law in Mrytle Beach,North Mrytle Beach,Cherry Grove South Carolina, golf carts taking over our hwy. putting our legal law biding citizens in danger, please help
They need that here in Pasco County too.
It's state wide, always has been, read ur DMV manyal.
10 year olds driving...
This is a fantastic idea. Someone in our neighborhood allows their 7 year old to drive a golf cart...ALONE. it's absolutely insane.
So? Have their been any problems? No. Cry more, tard. Tards love to cry. It's all they're capable of doing, as the world is a big, scary place when you have the mind of a kindergartner.
My kids have been driving carts since they were 7 and are much better drivers than most adults.
Since you allow your 7 year old to drive a golf car, and you claim he drive better than adult if he kills another child he would be good to be charge as an adult
I'm sure republicans won't like this because they say florida is a freedom state. Especially in the villages.
@@JoseRios-d5z How low is your IQ, traitor?
Do they have to have seatbelts?
Newer ones do and turn signals, brake lights and horn.
Do they have to have insurance to drive on the roads. I do they should to.
There are golf carts all over our subdivision, and kids on them run stop signs and drive recklessly. This can make parents control their kids.
Kids should not be operating them and it's easy to blame THEM for what really is, poor parenting. Kids will do what they're allowed to do.
Parents do not want to control their kids....😢
They don't want to be bothered by them....
I would like to see child safety restrictions on motorcycles as well.
I have seen so many close calls in Viera with the kids
This is good I don't understand stand why seatbelts are needed in a car yet golf cart on the same streets don't !
Never put one on and never will. When people understand they don't save lives smh. Cops will tell you they never unbuckled a dead person out of a seat belt. Think long and hard. It's a play on words. Leo don't unbuckle dead people. The coroner does
I don't agree with their lifestyle choices, so I'm going to need them to abide by my beliefs.

Golf carts ate. Made for golf course not the road or side walks so lets keep them there and no we're else
Brother, learn how to spell before commenting on policy decisions.
Is a17 yr old a child in Florida under this law ?
If he has a learner's permit he's OK to drive but make sure the cart is registered and insured, that's what this new law is really about. And it's always been the law to have a DL, just never enforced well.
Government DeSatan just found another way to boost revenue when what people wanted the state to do was make seat belts mandatory for underage occupants.
What happened to the sound
Another opportunity to keep patrons safe and stop juveniles from driving without a license

Do they now have to be insured?
Registered and insurance! Another cash cow for the State of Florida!
Can I get a personal training session from the news reporter? ❤
According to science, middle age now starting at 35 yrs of age. Good grief I'm old at 62😮
First time ever have AGREED with a new Florida law!!!
Freedom! Ron DeSantis's Florida...🙄
Ridiculous!! To much infringement. Should only be in a development or camp ground or slow speed side streets. No license or all those extra features
Anyone that drives a golf cart on a public road has obviously never heard of Florida Man before.
It shouldn’t be that big of an issue but I’ll see 13 yr olds driving all over town in their parents golf carts. Bicycles are on thing bc they don’t cause damage and rarely endanger other kids, but you can pack 6-8 kids in some of these golf carts maybe more
More statutory regulations passed off as laws.
I hate golf cart drivers they block lanes and think they are GoDs
Glad I'm not in Florida anymore. They are used here in Indiana, lots of space to use them. Cheaper than gas powered vehicles.
Thank you Gov. DeSantis. I am all for it.
Now you have to enforce. Just like the lack of enforcement regarding insurance it will be doubtful how well it will be enforced.
So under 18 can't operate a golf cart, but get a mini bike or a gocart and you're good! LMAO 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Is it state wide or just Martin County? How about places like The Villages, where folks let their grand children take their carts out. I've seen kids as young as 10 driving around.
This has always been a law in the State of Florida. It's in the DMV manual you read b/f getting your license.
Good. I agree 100% with Ron.
DeSantis is F’ing up Florida. This is a good one but he is doing things that are not good.
I think it is right because too many children are driving them. There has been multiple cars hit by them and most of them do not have any insurance.
It's a golf cart not a car and their age discrimination here 18+ doesn't need a license but under 18 does.
The fact that this is the priority over all the other BS going on in this state is RIDICULOUS! Florida is going down the toilet RAPIDLY!
Yes look Donna Deegan
TOO MANY LAWS IN EVERY STATE SO DIFFERENT
The reporter is just beautiful
Really. We need less governmental involvement not more. Next you will need a learner's permit to ride a horse.😂
And many of drivers have attitude of ok 20 mph so what
Seat belts/bumpers/insurance? Driving on sidewalks is tolerated in Palm Harbor, not sure if legal...
Life threatening as theses carts cross the streets along US19 Highway...
So the DeSantis priority is a License to drive a golf cart and Zero experience or License to carry a AK47 or any GUN!! Good job Ron!
Your statement is stupid. You have to have a license to carry a gun in the state of Florida. Only people in Florida that do not possess a license with their guns, are most likely felons. Because felons can't purchase guns legally, so most likely will not have a license.
Yeah, one's a right and the other is a privilege.
One term putz
I can see the same stipulations as a car.
But another lawmaker trying to make a name for themselves.
A law for golf carts to protect children, but no new gun laws to protect children?😢
