New state law will restrict usage of golf carts

- Under a new bill signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis, Florida teens won’t be able to drive golf carts without proper identification. The new bill is affecting communities across the state, including in our own backyard.
Its about time! These young kids driving these! No more kids driving golf carts..
I work in an upscale community in Boca Raton FL.
These well to do kids have access to these carts...I watch them speed by and have little children in them... whizzing around like it's a toy!
Many young teens!
where are these parents???
6,500 kids get injured and serious injuries a year? Why? Total neglect and ignorance of the dangers!
Thank you for the new law! Great one !!! Prevention is greatest medicine! Who needs a paralyzed child for a spin around the block to show off! Its bad enough they do it in an automoble to have fun and kill.
Its a weapon .....😢
😊
They shouldn't let you out of the house. I mean, what if the sky falls? Cry more, as it's all conservatives are capable of doing.
I live in a community where people use their golf carts a lot. I see little kids all over them, mothers holding their toddlers. Having golf carts anywhere cars also are is a stupid and deadly idea.
Cry a crap-ton more
This is overdue! Too many irresponsible parents letting kids drive golf carts on streets with no regard to traffic laws!
Golf carts have actually helped teach my teen how to drive. He drives way better than any of his friends because he used to drive a golf cart.
That is what drivers' education is for! You also learn the laws, parallel parking, driving etiquette, and getting used to a heavy vehicle at various speeds.
Golf carts are an adult toy which provides some convenience. It also is not allowed in traffic conditions that a student would be experiencing in a driver's ed class. A go- cart on your property would have taught as much and at higher speeds. But, again, no real driving experience.
The reason your son did well is due to self distant maturity and respect for others. There's nothing to do with a golf cart!
@@jamesderrico719 A little bit of driving education will not trump multiple years of driving.
@@waterisgoodforu3729 what are you talking about? This topic is about teens and kids driving golf carts on the road. They do not have the years of driving that you needlessly commented about!
@@jamesderrico719 ok I guess I got to break it down for you. Driving golf cart for multiple years = better driving experience. Let me rephrase, my argument was that if we let teens drive golf carts it could give them more driving experience so they are better drivers in the future.
They are hazards on the road. Evan adults do not obey the traffic laws. Children should not be allowed on the carts unless a adult with a license is driving
You'd do better in a regimented society like China or N Korea. Cry more. Remember when you knew the sky would fall with the legalization of pot.
Thank goodness! Too many young ppl drive golf carts without any training and cause major issues
It's funny how you will get a ticket for not wearing a seat belt or securing a child in a safety child seat, but they'll let all this go ,while in a golf cart? They need to stay on the golf course!
SEAT BELTS should have been what they passed b/c all they did w/ this stupid law was raise the age from 16 to 18 or w/ a driver's permit. It's always been in the DMV manual that we are suppose to read in order to get a license. Can't figure out why everybody thinks this is so great???? We need a law for SEAT BELTS to protect the children!!!! And then law enforcement to do thier job.
Cities in Georgia are starting to require a driver's license if the golf cart is operated on a public road.
Can you ride on shoulder if you're just going down the road a small distance,?
Georgia is not known for smart people.
I agree with that. Wouldn’t want some dumb kid hitting any cars or people.
@@chrisreynolds35 Wouldn't want you swallowing too much cum. What do you think we should do to forestall that likelihood?
In our neighborhood, forget golf carts. Kids drive side by sides day and night .
In stead of making new laws why not enforce the existing laws? Golf carts are not to be on roads unless registered for road use!
Head lights, turn signals, break lights horn, tag, and most important insurance!
So then when someone lets their kids ride off with a registered street legal cart, they can get in the same trouble as letting their kids drive off with an actual car. Common sense, you know the thing that people seem to be lacking these days.
EXACTLY
Yup
Golf carts are not a problem. ..just like guns..see the common denominator here folks ? PEOPLE !!!
Gee Wally, I heard that guns are not the problem.
I know Beaver, those gun manufacturers sure have a lot of people brainwashed so they can sell more guns.
Yes, if there were no pesky people around, we wouldn't have any problems or need any laws, life would be great 😊
Children under 16 shouldn't be driving anything on public roads though that's just crazy
It's been a long time since I've gotten my DL but then it was 15.
Why the age of 16? Why did you arbitrarily contrive a number? Maybe people with three letter n's in their name shouldn't be allowed out of the house? Are you with me? Seriously, why should you not be placed on a mild form of house arrest? I mean, we don't know what you're capable of or what you might do next.
@@BobRossRulezthat is the age at which Floridians can get a license
@@anneacosta789 You don't say. That's the age in every state when you can get a license. It sounds like a magical formula to arrive at that age for a driver's license. Ya think? Maybe you could explain in great detail the science behind the magic. I mean, go all day and into next week with the details. Oh, you don't have any details? Ever notice how no Trump tards ever have any details? 60 courts have.
@@BobRossRulez you need some mental help
Golf carts were not built for public roads
They have to drive on roads in lots of communities so the drivers need to be mature and of driving age to be out there with cars. It’s a great law and a long time coming!
Yes, they were originally built for exclusive use on golf courses but now people are using them as a poor man's electric vehicle for errands and other similar uses normally done with regular cars.
Tractors were not built for public roads, but I see them driven legally on public roads all the time. Cry more, crying crier.
@@BobRossRulez big difference in an agricultural piece of equipment and a vehicle designed for use on private property golf courses . It used to be that if a vehicle had 4 wheels and is able to carry a driver and passengers , it needs to be equipped with the same safety features as an automobile. Seat belts, sufficient roll over protection and operational lights and signals. Golf carts have none.
@@charlespartak2435 what about emissions?
Seems like a good idea. Young children shouldn’t be driving golf carts on public roads. They don’t have the coordination or the ability make good choices. They will choose fun over safety every time. Kids will be kids so don’t give them a loaded gun per say.
"Safety features"? "Rearview mirror"? What is she talking about. Plan and simple golf carts do not belong on the roads. Their called golf carts for a reason.
I agree 1000%. They hold up traffic and refuse to move over for actual cars that belong on the road. Sometimes i feel like i wanna drive my car on a golf course.
@@cindismith4342 😄
Or is that "fore!" a reason? 😆😆😜
Some farm equipment like Mahindra and Gator are piston driven. Not all electric carts are for golf. These vehicles are very useful, practical, and economic to drive in cities like Englewood, Boca Grande Beach, Manasota Key Beach. I do agree. Kids shouldn't be allowed to operate these vehicles and if they do, parents are liable.
About time! We have in our neighborhood a bunch of kids who pile in the golf cart they use, and drive it as fast as it can go up and down the street. Times they are riding with no hands on the wheel, swerving and just not caring how they drive. Mind you these kids are young maybe in the ages of 9 or 10. Glad this law is taking affect!
Go cry me a river you snowflakes
Another law just what we need.
Yes. To save your kids life since you don't care
Good these rich snobs in the neighborhoods think they can use them all over the place now and it's getting ridiculous. I see 9 10 year old kids out driving around without supervision and on main roads and it's getting out of control. People have to ruin everything and push it as far as they can.
I have one and I'm not rich. All kinds of people own them not just the rich.
Yep, I'm over it. Imo, golf carts belong on golf courses, not our neighborhoods! And certainly not on roads with traffic. I have nosey neighbors that just drive their carts around the neighborhood every evening peering into everyone's property for lack of interest in their own lives. Good grief, find something better to do😑

Everywhere this is happening w/ absent parents! Who pays when a child gets killed due to this neglect?
@@j.4341 Just the parent.
They are newly created nuisance on some roads becoming moving roadblocks, holding up traffic flow especially in already highly congested areas around tourist attractions.
They are only permitted to be on public roads if the have had required safety improvements made, gave been inspected, have insurance, and have been registered with DMV and given a FULL SIZED license plate. These improvements are not required in a designated and properly signed Golf Course Community
Wait till you get old and need one...;-)
@@gainingmomentum5392 still a road block
Wrong, people drive way too fast in SoFL. LSVs in the sunshine state are a net positive for safety and improved quality of life.
@Debbie Sunshine Tomko I am old & wouldn't use one even if it was free... My fast ebike with a rear basket is the way to go for me.
I live where we have legal rights very respectful and secure
Definately support this. I live in a vacation area and way too many noisy kids are driving through our neighborhood late at night.
So it's not about safety?
Aren't gold carts electric ??
@Chuck Barquero lots of modern golf carts have loud stereos and teens on these carts tend to be loud and obnoxious
@jstorm 14 it's about quality of life
And? Many adults do the same thing.
Parents need to install in their children that a golf cart is now treated like a car, they need to keep the key in their possession at ALL times because children under 18 occasionally do what they want to regardless of the rules of law on automobiles/golf carts, it is up to parents to teach and train children the rules, also if children under 18 wish to drive the gold cart then they are required to obtain a learner’s permit and the parents need to drive with them for a certain amount of hours to ensure they are safe
They need to instill this rather than install this in their children

But they get to keep the guns right🎉
I do nor agree. The law is justified. One good apple does not make the case. Drivers education is for teens! Not golf carts! It may be different if you have 20 acres for your son to practice on. But, never on public roads!

The kids are driving very fast on the roads. With out adults
Even 35 miles an hour is too fast for cars driving next to golf carts. A car traveling that fast can still inflict a lot damage.
It's as dangerous as Amish buggies...and the being driven by children is also a problem.
More and more folks are putting aftermarket lights on golf carts, but not proper location, intensity, or angle to illuminate the road...the other night I was approached by a single centered "High" beam you couldn't make out what was approaching ...I stopped as I was on a small two lane residential road (no on street parking).
There definitely needs to be some further tightening of the rules for these motorized vehicles.
Electric vehicles are becoming more prevalent so they should meet the standard rules of the road for all lighting and indicators...it tooks years and terrible fatal collisions until the Amish finally put a flashing light on the back of buggies, not just a reflective placard... collisions still occur, especially on the hilly winding country roads.
And motorcycles.
Then cars need to slow the f down.
A motorized vehicle requires an operators permit if it can reach and maintain a steady speed of over 29 mph, by law!
Golf carts typically do 35!
In the Florida DMV manual "the law" has been that you need to have a driver's license to drive a golf cart AND the cart needs to be registered and have a license plate and be insured to drive ON A PUBLIC ROAD. Roads in communities are just as public as main roads in your city or county. Sidewalks are not for golf carts but people. And why isn't the Government concerned about seat beats for the small children who ride unattended on the back of the golf carts?
Kids driving golf carts HAS always been illegal but Law Enforcement doesn't enforce it so why is this law going to be any different? All it did was change the age from 16 years old to 18 years old.
If you have a Florida driver's license then you should know this information b/c it is in your manual to read b/f taking the written test.
Anyone that drives a golf cart on a public road has obviously never heard of Florida Man before.
...or The Darwin Awards
Golf carts on the road are a public nuisance. I have actually seen a young girl fall out of one with her 10-year-old brother driving. Where were the parents? Who knows. Maybe on their way to jail.
I don't agree with their lifestyle choices, so I'm going to need them to abide by my beliefs.
I support this
Another stupid Law allowing golf carts on roads with cars and trucks with no helmets and no seat belts with children. This is insane and wrong in so many ways.
Safety features that are good for what? Ask the newlywed couple that lost the bride to a cart accident. Carts should not be sharing the road with vehicles
I would like to see child safety restrictions on motorcycles as well.
They need that here in Pasco County too.
It's state wide, always has been, read ur DMV manyal.
As a senior, who uses a golfcart, I do not have a driver's license, so this totally new law doesn't permit me to use my cart in Palm Beach county! Fortunately I live in Miami-Dade!
They said it only applies to be under 18
If the entirety of Miami-Dade has been officially designated as a Golf Course Community and has had signage erected that desigbates it as such, you are correct. IF NOT, you are mistaken.
See that's the problem you want to save $ ...but use the public roads in a slow moving vehicle...then are surprised by the fatalities in that occur...even where they are designated community for use fatalities happen...a just married couple in SC driving to their reception...short marriage, the wife is dead.
Go get some sunscreen.
Florida Law is clear. The problem is far too many think it applies only to others and not to themselves.
Why stop with kids, how about anybody over 70 years of age should not be allowed to drive either
They don't enforce laws in Florida. Come on down and do whatever you want be because everyone else does.
It's selectively enforced depending on who complains and whether or not the officer(s) in the area are bored.
So what I'm hearing is you would like officers to have quotas or something to make them more productive but then complain when they are more productive
But you make a law allowing concealed carry without permit. Welcome to the free state of stupidity
Go back where you came from
Many other states are open for business.
🤔 One is a right the other is a privilege
This is good I don't understand stand why seatbelts are needed in a car yet golf cart on the same streets don't !
Never put one on and never will. When people understand they don't save lives smh. Cops will tell you they never unbuckled a dead person out of a seat belt. Think long and hard. It's a play on words. Leo don't unbuckle dead people. The coroner does
Are they also allowed on the highways or turnpike?
So under 18 can't operate a golf cart, but get a mini bike or a gocart and you're good! LMAO 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is stupid! I was 11 years old riding mini bikes around-which takes more skill than a golf cart.
Really. We need less governmental involvement not more. Next you will need a learner's permit to ride a horse.😂
Uh-uh, better get Mayco...
This change in the law was long overdue. I see children that are barely 10 driving these carts. All that needs to happen is for some child to run into an adult, and the adult will be left with the responsibility for the accident. I'd be interested in seeing what happens in my neighborhood. I saw youngsters driving yesterday.
😮
You are a great person
They need to ban golf carts on roads period. "Golf" carts are meant for golf courses, does this mean i can drive my car on the course when i go golf? Its ridiculous people drive on the street. Should never been allowed.
Another opportunity to keep patrons safe and stop juveniles from driving without a license
I think this is going to harm some older people .some older people do not have driver's licenses.
They do have a golf cart that they drive around but they never leave their community
Unfortunately, if they don't have a driver's license, there is a reason. While I empathize w/ their situation, these carts can go 35 mph and can be a deadly tool in the wrong hands. Those of us who drive legally have a 'license' for a reason.
I'm a local to gulf coast Florida and I still feel there need to be a lot more restrictions to this. We have sidewalks meant for golf carts but they aren't not used and law enforcement does nothing. I've seen so many wrecks in San Destin and Santa Rosa Beach because of golf carts. They shouldn't be on the road at all. Please poad of you car and drive it to the beach or get an Uber or something. What is the difference between a golf cart and a four-wheeler
Its got ... ahaa... 4... ahaa wait. Both got 4...ahhaa... I sooooo confused🤪
I got it !!! The 4 wheeler is scary
The way you ride in it and likely top speed.
4wheeler is bike like and also probably more powerful.
A golf cart is more like a gimped buggy or UTV
A golf cart is like a small car and made for relatively smooth surfaces and golf course terrain and most are battery powered.
An atv/4 wheeler is gas powered and designed to go through places where a standard golf cart wouldn't/shouldn't go through.
Not only do I think this is a good move, I think it should be a blanket law over the entire state of Florida, not just in palm beach and the surrounding areas. In my area, I have seen children driving these carts, and I have even seen small children ( 4 - 7 yrs old ) riding in the back ( back seat, facing traffic ) In my opinion, if you can't drive a car, you should not be allowed to drive a golf cart, and that goes for all adults who have lost their licenses. I also think, that anyone riding 4 wheelers/ATV's should also require some sort of learning permit. I have seen children not only riding these on the street, but I have seen them riding them at night.
But you have exactly ZERO evidence of any harm caused. Cry more, no-IQ Trump traitor. I've seen the harm caused by crying pansies like you. What do you think we should do about the problem that is you?

Kids should be able to ride they atvs for fun and it does nothing to people but cause fights because heppocreds can't let kids have fun
When a kid is riding one of those they have all the padding for them to be safe
Anyone who is against that can just move because atvs are legal for kids to ride/ drive
I disagree some people can’t get their licenses and driving a golf cart to get to A & B helps out alot. Why can’t they just put a age restriction on using without a license?
All of these vehicles should also be equipped with safety belts and rear seats should also have guard tails!
We have more side by side than golf carts in Clay county Indiana

I wish they would pass this law where I live. It's like encouraging people to drive even without Driver's licenses. It also allowing children to think it's ok to drive without even being old enuff to obtain a driver's license. Parents allow children to get out on the streets, with them not knowing the rules of the road, and as soon as something happens to them, the parents want to hold the licensed driver's accountable and file charges. It's ridiculous. Golf carts aren't designed to be on roadways along with faster moving vehicles. And children surely have no right to be out driving in traffic. Next they should pass a law to keep pets from hanging out of windows and Obstructing visibility on streets, roads and highways. We all love our pets but there are times when they might need to be left at home when it puts motorists at risk. At least this is a start hopefully to better Laws to come.

First time ever have AGREED with a new Florida law!!! Want the same law here in Indiana!, BUT also needs to cover 4-wheelers. Have seen powerful one being driven by 10-12 year old children. Several years ago a young teenager hit me in driver side front panel, he and even younger passenger went flying over car one hitting the windshield destroying it. Thankfully they got off with scrapes and bruises. But I was on the hook for nearly $2000.00 in repairs. Cops said their home owners insurance should cover damages , but of course they had no such insurance they were renters. Cops only gave kids and parents a scolding.

Great statewide law for the 5 rich neighborhoods who have a bunch of people with golf carts.
Is a17 yr old a child in Florida under this law ?
If he has a learner's permit he's OK to drive but make sure the cart is registered and insured, that's what this new law is really about. And it's always been the law to have a DL, just never enforced well.
Government DeSatan just found another way to boost revenue when what people wanted the state to do was make seat belts mandatory for underage occupants.
About time!
They shouldn't of made that law as it violates the peoples right to travel as the peoples Constitutional Due Process Right to Travel is violated by trying to get us to get a license, etc. Which is the seeking of the permission to exercise the right!
It shouldn’t be that big of an issue but I’ll see 13 yr olds driving all over town in their parents golf carts. Bicycles are on thing bc they don’t cause damage and rarely endanger other kids, but you can pack 6-8 kids in some of these golf carts maybe more
Is anyone considering that the kids the who are responsible and respect the laws will be penalized by this law? Golf carts are a great way for children to learn how to drive while supervised, and gain independence when appropriate. The kids who are driving irrationally are the same ones who will still be driving regardless of the new law. I would guess most of the people against driving golf carts under 16 also lived in a different time, when they began working under the age of 16. Prolonging the age that children are able to have any independence is not beneficial to society. Maybe some of the retirees should volunteer to teach golf cart driving safety classes in their neighborhoods.
