On the color yellow, in 1986 I purchased a Corvette, manual trans in yellow. The color choice was not an easy decision which says, or hints, at something. I made sure I was at the dealer when the car was delivered, watched it come off the truck in fact. Driven to the shop for PDI and coned off per the agreement with the salesman (I’m fussy) I looked it over. The lunch truck showed up and pulled into the shop proper, opening up for business and many gathered about. I over heard another salesman talking to the lunch truck proprietor, who was inquiring about the coned off Vette, “yes that was an ordered car, can you believe they ordered it in yellow?”. About says it all it does, personally I never tired of the color but always wondered if I’d made the wrong decision, it certainly polarized people. A boat salesman once said buy the color for the next guy, some truth in that statement. Sold it years latter to a male hair dresser who wanted a yellow Vette to the exclusion of all other colors offered in ‘86, go figure. Thanks for the review and the many entertaining and informative videos, the 911 has been a dream car since I was 16, never happened but if ones breathing there still a chance correct? Ciao and be well.
You’re right, the difference in the speed of the PDK between normal and sport plus in a Carrera S alone is a huge difference, so there must be a big difference between how this car shifts versus an S. If you cannot afford an S, get a 718, the lack of all the performance options on the base, removes a lot of the specialness of the 911. However, I think the 718 will always have a lower resale compared to a 911.
These kind of “comparo’s” really bring out the…..ah…..well, folks that know all about the cars…..but just don’t OWN ONE. Anyway…..if drag racing is so critical….a PDK 911 will out perform a manual s in your 1/4 mile contest……but that’s not really why most people buy this car. And if your ego forces you to have an “s” following “Carrera”, that is sad. Folks that option a 911 realize very early in the game that the additional price on an “s” model is negated by the first real option you include on a base 911. And if not “rowing” just kills it for you, you’re probably too young to remember what it was like to hit second gear in your 366 hp GTO and toss your girlfriend from the center console into the backseat. WE DON’T NEED TO SHIFT…..DON’T WANT TO SHIFT ANYMORE……GET IT !! ??? The current 2023 385 hp 911 has all the performance any sane driver can use on a public highway. Almost without exception, most new performance cars are far more capable than the driver. Most are in over their head before they turn the key on 400+ hp…..but they’re all “experts” and know which Porsche YOU need. And I’m willing to bet whom ever said “If you can’t afford an S, get a 718”…….has neither. Porsches are far more than horsepower……..people that buy them have figured that out. Folks that don’t……..enjoy your Dodge Demon !
@@unclebob4964 not sure who you are talking to but..I agree with you. My comment is over two years old, back when I had a 992 s and I’ve since had two base 992s and have a T coming….over. GTS and that with Porsches new crazy prices…. One like at my profile and you can see I have a base and a cayman T…. After having had both in PDK form, the biggest difference when driving a base and an S is the fact that the S doesn’t lose anything as you go up the power and, where as in the base once you hit about 65 or 70, you don’t feel it much. I mean the S comes of the line harder but not by that much!
@@tommy516 I appreciate your response. Your post triggered my response. You clearly know what you’re talking about…..which, as you know, is often not the case. Congrats on the coming “T”……I’ve seen several reviews on them and they appear interesting. And you hit it when you mentioned price…..DAMN !! It took me almost 3 years to finally put a 2023 C2 in my driveway. Base price climbed well over 10K. Initially, I had wanted a C4…….at about the 28th month mark, the manager of the dealership put his arm around my shoulder and said “You’re never going to see a base all wheel drive…..soooo…..I’ll get you a 4s or a C2. I decided to get the C2 and option it. It worked out well……got a gorgeous Agate Grey 911 that just fits this old man just right !…..and that’s all that matters ! Only have just over 500 miles on it and am breaking it in by “the book.” I’m not sure what your position is on breaking….and it doesn’t matter, but I just can’t wrap my head around the “drive it like you stole it” philosophy. The 385 hp in my C2 feel like Clydesdale’s….the bit I have experienced. I’m fortunate to have gone through the muscle car era…..66 442…..66 327 Corvette….69 GTO……69 Z-28…..69 427 Corvette. Yep…..had them all……and that little C2 would walk away from all of them ! Ah….it was fun…..but I can’t think of a better way to wrap it all up with a 911 Porsche ! Thx for your kind response.
If I was getting a 992, I'd get this. Flawed? Yes, but that's the point. I don't want the car to do everything for me, I want to have to actually know how to drive, to get the most out of it. Still a shame no manual though, as that would make it the best drivers car on the market today.
I drove a C2S 991.2 for a year then a CS2 992 for a year also. I found the width of the 992 body was something that made me feel less confident in narrow lane HWYS and it’s absolutely will oversteer if you’re not a precise throttle used otherwise you have to heel-tow with the breaks engaged as you took a curve to avoid the extra oversteer with the rear torque production. Second: 992 is overkill if you drive and have no idea that you want to be pulled over. 9/10 times the 992 C2S will spin sometimes to the cars loss of traction completely with with traction carol off and requires either skill or caution not to over accelerate. For a RWD car the i92 CS2 is a lot of unusable pwoewer when not one track. Only vanity will make me choose an S model if I wanted and att that why not go with a an s63. Strange how cars in Saudi mare not like in the US
Wouldn't the S63 handle way worse than the 992? I'm just trying to understand why you're comparing a sportscar with a high-performance version of a giant and heavy commuter car.
have you ever tried having the driving parts all together instead of seperated , and compared minutes watched? Personally I don't watch because of the cutting away from the driving parts so often.
George if you circled through all 992 ´s already, can you start from the beginning again please? You can change the color though, no problem. It's like zipping a great wine - just pleasure to watch your Reviews! Next one is Saturday :) No manual - really? Porsche is setting the trend that manual you only can get in the upper level trim - used to be only the entry level trims. well....
We may have run out of 992s . . . for now . . . But happy to report we have a cavalcade of Porsches coming up this month . . . ALL have more horsepower than this. Some, MUCH more.
The best looking 911 since the 993 imo. The base is more than enough for daily driving. With these cars being turbocharged now there isn’t a huge need to get the S anymore. A simple tune will get you the power the S has. I understand why getting the S is more valuable in the 911.1 since you’re going from a 3.4 to a 3.8 but that’s not the case anymore
Great Review of the base Carrera. It`s a great Sportscar but when you have the choice between that and a GT4, I would go for the GT4. It would be anyway a weekend driver, so it should be a bit more track-focused to me. - Anyway, the look of the base 992 911 is Wunderbar.
You can't get a new GT4 without a favorable purchase history with the dealer-unless you pay a markup. With a markup, a GT4 will be significantly more expensive than a base 992. In contrast, anyone can walk into a dealer and buy a base 992 (global supply issues aside).
With the projected resale values that you discussed between the 911 and 718, I’m going to guess that buying a 2-year old base 992 would be optimal: some depreciation is baked in already and you still get a 911
No torque vectoring in the non S. It’s standard on the S. The S, for $15k gets: More power, Larger wheels and tires Larger brakes in red Torque vectoring as standard Option of Rear axle steering In addition Motor Trend dyno explains why the S is so stupendously fast to 60 and quarter mile....489 hp and 478 ft/lb of torque!!! Explains 2.9-3.0 to sixty. For my money the S all the way.
Great video as always.. exemplary!! Never miss them!! However... personally.. a 718 4.0 GTS manual.. is MUCH cheaper and will hold it's value better.. even the Boxster version... and with a much better sounding exhaust note.. just as practical.. more exciting.. Did I miss anything?? However I agree.. why oh why.. don't they offer the base 992 with a manual transmission.. I know it's obvious.. but.. c'mon!! The base 991.2 with a manual was a peach!! reduced turbo lag made it more responsive than the S and more in keeping with the original.. to a degree..
If they were offering manual for the base model - there would be not much to choose, S would be just a matter of deeper pocket. Having no manual options though... I will take the base cabrio as it is not that much sport oriented and if I'm about the copue - S coupe with the manual and all the "sport" goodies...
mohawk5010 but the cayman has a 4.0 NA flat six. I dont think a manual base 992 3.0 with turbos would compete with that. Im more into the notion that it would eat the sales of the carrera S though
Should have been a NA variant. Emotional and affordable 911. I am only interested in GT products today. And Cayman GTS 4.0. 911 got so expensive nowadays.
8,000 dollars and loaded with options you don't need? Fast forward to the 2024 model 992 base and it's already 10 grand more just to start. I don't understand people buying a $110,000+ car and not loading it up with cool options. Cheap seats? No leather upgrades? No way for me. My 2024 992 base will be delivered in a couple months and it has almost $31,000 in options. My dream of owning a 911 is coming and I'm not skipping on options I expect in an expensive car.
The 718 Spyder is the better car overall. You pay for 911 mystique and the base 911 is no where near as fun as the Spyder to drive...a true mid-engine car. Plus, you can get it with a manual!!
That would skyrocket the 992 base sales! Shouldn't be difficult to build and certainly would be an instant sports star!!! Dripping just thinking about that possibility... what are the odds???
Do what you want man. Thats what money allows for you to do what you want and thats why we have high dollar products. Its all ego and self soothing, that said there is nothing wrong w/ that. Id take the 7MT in a 911S Targa in blue with red interior. Ugh... 137k later.
When driving a 911 you're going to get people trying to race. In that case I'd like the PDK and for everyday driving the PDK. Only every once in awhile it would be nice to have manual. So I'll take the PDK. But now 911's and they're options have inflated at too much and are now grossly overpriced for what they are. I'll hold off until they get reasonable.
Let me consider the competition right here: Porsche 911.992C w/ 379HP B6 or Corvette C8 w/ 492HP V8 ... AND ... $50000 change. That is difficult ... wow
A top trim LT3 C8/Z51 with front lift & optional wheels is @$81k (MSRP) is a lot faster and much nicer inside. Excellent fit and finish (it's in my garage). From the video the interior in this 911 is closer to a similarly optioned base C8 which would be @$10k less. I know Porsche people don't want to here it.

Spot on with 'buy the color for the next guy' . . . the only times I break that rule: Cars you buy on passion . . . And with cash.
Yes I thought the same thing cayman gts 4.0 is great but the name and prestige of a 911 is priceless
£82k in the uk
I’d buy one but just wouldn’t be able to drive it enough for it to make sense but awesome car
Still 77 HP more than my 2000 911 996.
Only have just over 500 miles on it and am breaking it in by “the book.”
I’m not sure what your position is on breaking….and it doesn’t matter, but I just can’t wrap my head around the “drive it like you stole it” philosophy.
Love your videos so well explained.
If I was getting a 992, I'd get this. Flawed? Yes, but that's the point. I don't want the car to do everything for me, I want to have to actually know how to drive, to get the most out of it.
Still a shame no manual though, as that would make it the best drivers car on the market today.
No manual was a let down😔
Maybe in a year or 2. Who knows? 🤞🏼
Let's hope they make a 992 Carrera T manual with the base engine, S brakes and Porsche Torque Vectoring as standard.
Really... I'd configure a 911 Carrera S Manual than off any dealer lot.
have you ever tried having the driving parts all together instead of seperated , and compared minutes watched? Personally I don't watch because of the cutting away from the driving parts so often.
Chrono pack is all you really need on the standard. Absolutely love my 911 992
I have just ordered my 911 992 ... Is this good choice? What do you think?
George if you circled through all 992 ´s already, can you start from the beginning again please? You can change the color though, no problem. It's like zipping a great wine - just pleasure to watch your Reviews! Next one is Saturday :)
No manual - really? Porsche is setting the trend that manual you only can get in the upper level trim - used to be only the entry level trims. well....
We may have run out of 992s . . . for now . . . But happy to report we have a cavalcade of Porsches coming up this month . . . ALL have more horsepower than this. Some, MUCH more.
I love this channel! It's like I'm hanging out with you as you check out awesome cars!
WOW! Thanks . . . greatly appreciate it!
Porsche are protecting Carrera S sales’s numbers by limited options on the base model! So sad!!!
Great review!!!
Just strip out the unnecessary options and go for the S variant.
I wish it had the same gauge cluster as the 991, because then this car I can’t afford would fit my tastes better lol
What you want will come with the Carrera T.
Except sound.
Nord Mann Referencing manual transmission but agree with you on sound also.
SeñorDuc ergo, get the 991.2 Carrera T😉🥇
Nord Mann I have 991.1 GTS.... I’ll be keeping it.
SeñorDuc cool car👍🏻
How was the launch control? I ordered same one with convertible with sports chrono
When I watch reviews of the 911, I am always convinced that the 718 is a better deal and better-optioned car.
I like 911s but if I can't get a old fashion manual gearbox I'll stick with vintage cars.
Smart analysis !
With the projected resale values that you discussed between the 911 and 718, I’m going to guess that buying a 2-year old base 992 would be optimal: some depreciation is baked in already and you still get a 911
No torque vectoring in the non S. It’s standard on the S.
The S, for $15k gets:
More power,
Larger wheels and tires
Larger brakes in red
Torque vectoring as standard
Option of Rear axle steering
In addition Motor Trend dyno explains why the S is so stupendously fast to 60 and quarter mile....489 hp and 478 ft/lb of torque!!!
Explains 2.9-3.0 to sixty.
For my money the S all the way.
No brainer....
Finally someone Reviewed it! I`ve been looking for the base Carrera since it got unveiled.
Theres a comparison video of the s and base awhile ago
@@BobbyDazzler888 I saw that but that Carrera was very highly specced. This one too wasnt too basic but still...
Looks better than the current turbos and gt:s. Think thats the first time since 964.
718 dont hold value better, its mistake
If they were offering manual for the base model - there would be not much to choose, S would be just a matter of deeper pocket. Having no manual options though... I will take the base cabrio as it is not that much sport oriented and if I'm about the copue - S coupe with the manual and all the "sport" goodies...
That´s strange. The most basic version but no manual? Maybe they are afraid of creating a too attractive budget model.
yes they want to balance the emissions sheet bs.
Reverse-Cayman Complex. They’re afraid the 911 will eat into Cayman sales. 🙃
mohawk5010 but the cayman has a 4.0 NA flat six. I dont think a manual base 992 3.0 with turbos would compete with that. Im more into the notion that it would eat the sales of the carrera S though
Nah, they are just waiting for the Carrera T.
@@aviator-kn8zq Thanks Obama!
Should have been a NA variant. Emotional and affordable 911. I am only interested in GT products today. And Cayman GTS 4.0. 911 got so expensive nowadays.
Ahhh yes, the 922; they even cheaped out on the chassis ID #.
What is the weight jump of the wheels and tires stepping up to the carrera s wheel?
Milli Vanilli good question! I actually wonder if the ride isn’t impaired also with the larger wheels🤔
Nord Mann larger wheels usually mean thinner rubbers.
Jimmy Dishkawnt yes, but more metal also..
Porsche and Dave Ramsey fan , and in the same sentence makes me think it's OK to buy one now. I like your presentation style!
Thank you, Jim!
@@MotoManTV I bought a used 2018 Macan GTS last week. pick it up next Monday. Your GTS video was helpful. Thanks MotoMan!
Why don't you use launch control when testing the speeding feeling and time?
@@SaintMecha make sense!!
I n ever use launch control on my car unless I'm showing someone in the car launch control. Abdulla Ali nailed it.
Could not have said it better myself . . . Thanks, Abdulla!
Wait. Are you saying that the base Carrera with smaller turbos has *more* lag than the Carrera S?
If i got the review right, I think the lag is on normal mode. Sport and sport+ modes has no lag. I may be wrong though
Normally it’s the other way around. Smaller turbos smaller lag.
Can't say I disagree . . . ruclips.net/video/xNRj3ffFWnQ/видео.html
You can’t get the 992 with a manual, or this specific trim?
Manual trans is only available on the 992 Carrera "S".
Alex that’s the “problem” 😅
Serious faux pas by Porsche to deny the manual on the most elemental version of the 911...
Why would the fuel consumption be the same as the S? I would feel ripped off.
Its not base, has the sports exhaust, sports chrono, wheels different diameter.
mate you can spec all that in the base.
Milli Vanilli - there s not a 911 in existence that has no options.... OK maybe one or two.....
Havent seen a review yet of a base 992 without options. But Would love to see reviews about the smaller 19/20 wheels combo
aviator2492 yes I understand that, but all these are performance upgrades than enhances it from ‘base’
I can’t unsee last Gen beetle in that front clip and it bothers me 🤯
You do know that the beetle was designed and made by Ferdinand Porsche!?
ternavasso1963 you seriously wasted your time to type that?
Dill Withers if you seriously see a beetle in a 992 yes!
Porsche unfortunately wants their whole fleet to have the Panamera vibe...
Why are you using the diameter symbol for a zero
The 718 Spyder is the better car overall. You pay for 911 mystique and the base 911 is no where near as fun as the Spyder to drive...a true mid-engine car. Plus, you can get it with a manual!!
Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 maybe the sweet budge3t sporting fun?
Imagine a base manual 992 with the 4.0 NA flat six of the boxster 💦💦💦
That would skyrocket the 992 base sales! Shouldn't be difficult to build and certainly would be an instant sports star!!! Dripping just thinking about that possibility... what are the odds???
So a base 911 with a short option list is $116k?
Not worth it.
So is this one or a 991.2 carrera T...?
Neither. Answer is at the end of this episode.
This is why the Lord made the GT4. :-)
Amen.
Porsche knows how to milk people of their money with the option prices. What a rip off. Still a nice car tho.
Rich ppl don’t care lol
Not a ripoff, you can choose not to buy the car entirely or its option.
Do what you want man. Thats what money allows for you to do what you want and thats why we have high dollar products. Its all ego and self soothing, that said there is nothing wrong w/ that. Id take the 7MT in a 911S Targa in blue with red interior. Ugh... 137k later.
The least expensive in the 992 911 lineup but not cheap
🤣 the only cheap porsche is a used porsche
Why have a manual when PDK is much faster.???
@ 😂
@ LOL
When driving a 911 you're going to get people trying to race. In that case I'd like the PDK and for everyday driving the PDK. Only every once in awhile it would be nice to have manual. So I'll take the PDK. But now 911's and they're options have inflated at too much and are now grossly overpriced for what they are. I'll hold off until they get reasonable.
Love 911s, but Cayman gts 4.0 >>>> 911 for
Question why is the 992 Turbo a gas guzzler and the 992 Turbo S is not?
8:07... shame....! Otherwise this would negate the deliberately unresponsive PDK set up on the basic car (which you just explained)...?
And now the 2021 version comes in stick...oh oh.
Ageed!! Give us the manual!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ..and non electric door handles. :( Nice review BTW Thx
I like porsche but every time I look at the price I say thank you Chevrolet for making Corvettes.
This video is from 1994 with a 2020 Porsche. This is a proof of time travel people.
In yellow that full width pop up rear spoiler looks like Mr Zippy's mouth!
Let me consider the competition right here: Porsche 911.992C w/ 379HP B6 or Corvette C8 w/ 492HP V8 ... AND ... $50000 change. That is difficult ... wow
Obviously something this Porsche snob channel would NOT consider!
German engineering and build quality is waaaay ahead vs the c8.
@@jimmydishkawnt I would suggest you actually take a look at the C first hand.
Cheaper than the Boxster GTS you just tested.
Sadly, true:)
No manual!
Porshe losing their minds?
Only with "S" trim.
No cost option.
Porsche wants you to pay more for the S trim if you want a manual 🙁
@@jimmydishkawnt
Every other manufacturer, you for the base trim, you get a manual.
Only porshe wants you to pay more for a manual.
@@waynebrown7310 probably comes down to a sales analysis. maybe more of the people buying a "casual" 911 base model go for the pdk. they're betting enthusiasts will spring extra for the S with manual.
Nice, Nissan 400z gonna have more power than that. there's rumors that they gonna build the Z with carbon tub
As a previous Z owner and 2nd time Porsche owner; different cars. My 350Z made more power than my Cayman S (same year models) and it got walked when I raced them against each other.
I am excited about the 400Z and we will see very soon how it is going to look like. A carbon tub is NEVER going to happen. It is not a McLaren.

A “cheap” 911 is $116,000? Definitely out of my price range.
you answered your own question, he said "cheap 911" not a "cheap car". this is pretty cheap compared to the other 911 variants offered
Just wait a few years and let the depreciation work a bit.
Its 116k because of the options added. If you dont tick any boxes on the options list, the car is 90k+... still not cheap though 🤣
