- Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland has a multi-cultural food scene like nowhere else in New Zealand. Over the next few weeks we’re taking you on a round the world food tour via Auckland’s best restaurants. In this video we start our day with some Malaysian breakfast classics- eating roti canai and nasi lemak at a local’s favourite called Uncle Man’s. We share a spot serving up delicious tortas- Mexican sandwiches and hunt down Lanzhou la mian traditional hand pulled beef noodles from North western China. These are Auckland’s tastiest eats, hit subscribe and get ready for some mouthwatering food.

What we ate and where we ate it:
1. Nasi lemak and roti canal at Uncle Man’s, 277 Karangahape Rd, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010. Open 7 days 11:00am to 9:30pm.
2. Pierna adobada torta at Miss Torta, 75C Victoria Street West, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010. Open daily from 11:00am.
3. Lanzhou traditional beef noodles at King Made Noodles, 48 Fort Street, Auckland City. Open 7 days 11:00am to 9:30pm. NB this is a traditional Muslim Chinese dish but the dish served at King Made Noodles is not halal.

I used to live in Auckland and I didn’t know that these places exist. I lived right in front of Sky Tower. As an international college student back then, I didn’t venture much. Now I regret it.

I would have order Roti Murtabak over Roti Canai because the flat bread stuff with beef, scramble egg, & onion. There is also slice Jalepeno pepper in the Torta. Only wish to see how they prepare the beef as well with the hand made noodles. 10 hours of cooking is a long time for beef to overcook unless is beef shank, but those slices look tender.
I love a simple roti canai over a murtabak to be honest. And you get to experience their fluffy, light roti with a roti canai. Such a tasty day of eating. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Sheena

I’ve got a stack of friends in Auckland. I’ll be recommending Uncles Man’s to them. There is also a second outlet in Southpoint, Manukau. As I find with other Malay/Singaporean restaurants, they have to have a full bowl of meat with the curry sauce in the roti canai. Otherwise, it looks really good!

*roti canai* - The way she crushed it a bit reminded me of *bun parotta.* And Sheena getting her workout punching and kneading the dough early in the morning in that video is perhaps my favorite Sheena moment ever. So much fun. 😂
*zocalo* - I don’t know. The zocalo in CDMX is a paved over massive square without a single blade of grass. Albert Park looks beautiful! I’d say it’s reminiscent of Parque Mexico or perhaps Chapultepec.
*pulled noodles* - I’ve had some regional variety in NYC and Los Angeles but really not a lot of experience. Your bowl looked pretty darn tasty for sure.

I always go to the new Uncle Mans branch in Manukau - but I admit I kinda stay safe with noodle and laksa dishes - but this has inspired me to try the roti dishes next time!

I used to go Uncle Mans a lot a few years ago when it had just opened. After the hygiene issues I never went back. KKs is good!
I personally like Shaolin and Xian food bar a lot more than King Made.

That roti canai is the real deal. I gave up on roti canai here because the Malaysian restaurants serve frozen paratha calling it roti canai. Did the torta have a layer of refried beans? I was wondering if it was left out to accommodate Kiwi tastes. Great video! It is exciting to see the diversity in cuisine in Auckland.
It was fabulous! Ahhh yes, I can see why you gave up- better to hold out for the real deal 😝 No refried beans on the torta- I don’t think I’ve ever had them on a torta in the past but that could be because of the torta we ordered 🤔 So glad you enjoyed this one mate, loads more to come 😄 Thanks for watching and commenting! its so unreal for me to see you in a restaurant. No Mask no lockdown...We are in Lockdown 2 in Germany since 1 November. Not allowed to meet friend or family, all restaurants are closed.. We need to wear masks al the time even outside.. So it makes me happy to see that you and new Zealand is doing so great. it makes me hopeful for better days to come.
