I am Singaporean living in the US for the last 40 years. Singapore is a great country, love my people and the food but I can’t never live there again. I am now a country gal, living far away from the crowds and my life is calm and peaceful. No family drama in the US an even during my short visit to Singapore, I see drama ready to pop up anytime. I love my family but to deal with their dramas so often is not what I am looking for in my old age. I love the mountains and the lake and I can’t get that in Singapore. In addition, I love cold weather. I have considered going back for good numerous times but I just couldn’t do it. There are regrets for sure… missing big milestones with family, my kids not knowing their grandparents..etc. if any Singaporeans considering returning to Singapore, do it before kids turned 5 years old, otherwise it is going to make your decisions harder. Pick a country, settle down and learned to be happy with your decision. There is no perfect country.

If you live in a state where you can get equal amounts of sunshine, I think it's great to stay in the US. Family drama..even the Korean peninsula, half, is not big enough, I shudder to think about Sing.

Now I visit them and I love it. I love them, I love Holland, but I can kiss the ground when I'm back in Spain😊

@@yaki-moon I thought it's not an issue in that part of the world. :). I'm from one of the post Soviet states now living in Australia, looking back why I decided to change the place was partly coming from the fact I didn't have loving extended family circles (well except from my mother, of course, though we're not best friends with her either). Extended family circles in Almaty were miserable (control and status freaks dominating and pressing). Along with some other factors. I miss my home country's social discourse though.

That's so sweet that you called Singapore a perfect bubble. Singaporeans who haven't lived in other countries don't understand how good they have it until they move overseas for a bit. Thank you for appreciating Singapore! Also really appreciated the insight into couples therapy by Qi. You are so intelligent and articulate. I'll definitely recommend you to couples who need therapy!

This has been the most interesting interview on your channel. Ms.Qi is very intelligent and empathetic. I would also have to say there were points when I questioned who was the interviewer and whom the interviewee😂.

Your guest today, Lee is outstanding talking about couples relationships. Everything she said are true to the fullest. She is so smart, and of course, why not? She went to school at Stanford where I am from SF, CA. I do like Singapore, but my husband doesn't. He thinks it too strict, where for me, I love it because it's clean and organized. We lived in Bangkok, Thailand for 3 years because of his job with IBM. I went there with him while living in Thailand on a a week of one of his work seminars he attended. All I can remember is Orchard Rd and shopping at Takashimaya Mall that I enjoyed.

I love this interview. As a Singaporean who's lived in Japan for most of my adult life, I can relate to a lot of feelings and thoughts coming from both Max and Qi. Living abroad for more than 20 years has made me more introspective about my identity and the kind of life I want. As a mum of a child who is mixed (Chinese Singaporean, Japanese and American), I'm also trying to make conscious choices that will contribute to her future.
