I visited Auckland (and parts of the rest of New Zealand) in 1983 and 1997. Thanks for the video. New Zealand has to be one of the best tourist destinations on the planet. The scenery is breath-taking.

One of the historic running clubs on the planet is in Auckland - The Auckland Joggers. I ran through the streets and in the parks with them a few times. Delightful people. Thanks for the look at New Zealand.

Born a couple of hundred metres from Queen Street so I appreciate you guys showcasing my hometown in such a great light. I used to walk coastal West Auckland tracks in my late teens & early twenties. A wild & special part of Auckland.

Thankyou Phoebe, this is fantastic.. I was going to avoid Auckland completely because it was just another big city. But those West Auckland beaches are so rustic. And then after a google search, it shows Auckland has over 80 beaches. As a beach/bush person, I'm in !

I used this video to plan our recent trip to Auckland and I have to tell everyone-her recommendations are spot on!! Cordis is an amazing hotel. The beds are perfect (wanted to steal it!). They have an hourly shuttle from the hotel to the CBD (corner of Queen Street and Customs Street). Eight Restaurant is fantastic for breakfast (those Fern Waffles!) and dinner. Also, we spent a few hours at the All Blacks Experience and the Weta Unleashed and cannot recommend them enough. The Haka presentations were incredible (they now do the women’s Haka too!) and anyone interested in movies must do Weta (she’s right-you don’t need to be a LOTR fan, but it helps). If you’re planning an Auckland trip, stay at Cordis! There’s lots to do at the resort, there are plenty of small family-type restaurants right nearby on Queens Street, and there’s a convenience store conveniently less than a block away (be sure to get those NZ snacks-like anything by Whittakers chocolate!) Thanks, again, Phoebe-you guided us well on our bucket-list trip and we are forever grateful!

Winter has been fairly mild this year. We are in Christchurch where the wind can be freezing, but has been fine. One of my friends played the character "gimli" in LOTR. He is 4ft 11. Did all 3 movies and alot of stunt work too. PJ gave him the axe as a gift.

@@travelforphoebe haha yeah, John rhys Davies is the face and voice of gimli. My mate Brett who is 4ft 11 wore his face and full costume etc. So when u watch the movie and see a close up of gimli, it's John and when u see gimli standing beside the cast it's Brett. John Rhys Davies is 6ft 2 so he is taller than the cast so you can't have a dwarf taller than the cast members lol. Brett was asked to receive the 9th tattoo which says "nine" in elvin script, to represent the 9 main cast members which he got done. He didn't receive any screen credit so no one knows about him unfortunately.
@@travelforphoebe actually I just googled Brett and a story has come up recently by the looks of everything I have just said. Google Lord of the rings "Brett Beattie". Then you'll understand what I'm on about. It's a pretty cool story! Cheers

Sounds like you may need to find an organised day trip out of the city if you want to see some of the coastline! I’d just Google and see what’s out there. No doubt there are some awesome ones!
We have been to Auckland a few times but only like stay overnight but never actually explore the city. We did went to the Lion rock beach before headed to Bay of Plenty. We got there super early so there's only us but that was back in 2014. I love your channel, new sub here ❤

Starting memorable tour with Cultural Hub of NZ, Auckland City Centre was the perfect 💯💯💯👍👍👍 destination, then Mount Eden's spectacular view from the top was just incredible. Delicious food 😋😋 with ultra comfortable stay in Hotel, Emotional and Motivational, Traditional Haka War Dance was just mind blowing. Nice video thanks and timely for our upcoming trip to NZ. A technical question if I may. When we travel overseas including NZ we rely on hotels, cafes and shopping centres for wifi. But in this COVID environment we need data in order to check in to places where wifi may not be available. How did you guys manage this? Did you buy a local SIM card?
Such a good question! We got local SIM cards for the first time. Ours were from SIMS Direct and we went with the unlimited, 30 day sims. They were awesome! You get them before you leave home so when we touched down we changed our sims on the plane and we were ready to go right away. Have 1 day planned in Auckland in March before setting off to road trip around the South Island this definitely gave me some ideas on what to do in Auckland. How much time does the All Black Experience & Weta take would you need all day or just a couple of hours
Definitely don’t need a whole day but it does take a little longer to get through Weta cos you’re with a group and it’s paced by the guide. Maybe 3 or 4 hours to do both!
You need more than a day. But the Auckland Musuem and adjoining planetarium is pretty cool with a great view of the harbour and Rangitoto. Then catch a bus downtown and catch a ferry to Rangitoto Island. For the price it’s probably the best value tourist experience in the city. A day on Waiheke is always good too, especially in summer. Piha is only 40 minutes from city and as special.
@@billymack333 yeah we definitely needed more than a day but we still managed to get a decent amount done I think we will make sure to add more days the next time we go back!

@@travelforphoebe no unfortunately not! I travelled to Australia before (Melbourne-Tasmania-Sydney-Gold Coast-Brisbane-Perth). And when they told me Tasmania is New Zealand in small I wanted to travel to NZ. But 6 weeks after my Australia trip, the world locked down due to COVID-19. So now I’m patiently waiting for the world to open up. My second Pfizer jab is scheduled for 9th of August, so from 24th of August and onwards I can travel to open countries
You're back in Auckland or was this recorded pre pandemic?
We flew over on 15th June! Was great to take advantage of the travel bubble and be able to get back to NZ ☺️
