Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland has a multi-cultural food scene like nowhere else in New Zealand. Over 200 different ethnic communities call Auckland home and this makes for a diverse food scene. Over the next few weeks we’re taking you on a round the world food tour via Auckland’s restaurants. In this video we’re hunting down some of the best spots for Cantonese food. We take you into the kitchen of one of Auckland’s oldest Chinese restaurants, Pearl Garden- a locals favourite for yum cha- Cantonese brunch. We eat classic Hong Kong cafe fare at Hungry head of french toast and yuen yeung (half coffee and half tea) and share our favourite restaurant for sui mei- Cantonese roast meats, Golden Garden. These are Auckland’s tastiest Cantonese eats, hit subscribe and get ready for some mouthwatering food.

What we ate and where we ate it:
1. Beef brisket noodles, French toast and yuenyeung at Hungry Head, 8 Torrens Road, East Tamaki, Auckland 2013. Open Thursday to Tuesday 11:00am to 9:00pm.
2. Yum cha at Pearl Garden, Level 1/1 Teed Street, Newmarket, Auckland 1023, 11:00am to 3:00pm (for yum cha) and 5:30pm-10:00pm (for dinner).
3. Roast meats on rice at Golden Garden, 583 Dominion Road, Mount Eden, Auckland 1041, open 7 days 10:30am to 10:30pm.

Another phenomenal video (aren’t they all 😂). Love Cantonese cuisine - like Thomas said, the conviviality of yum cha is unparalleled (and everyone gets to try so many different dishes with communal dining - my favourite style of dining). Pearl Garden’s dim sum looks amazing, especially that jin dui (sesame glutinous rice ball with black sesame filling)! Roast meats are such a staple as well. Cantonese-style BBQ is in a class of its own, just like American-style BBQ smoked meats!!

Yum, Auckland does have good Chinese food. Yum cha I like the weird dishes like chicken feet, spicy beef tripe. Wow so much Cantonese food in Auckland. Lots I haven't tried before, thanks for showing different types of Cantonese or hong kong food. 🤤

@@ChasingaPlate there are some good authentic places I’ve visited with some Chinese Americans when I lived in San Francisco, but for the most part, it’s breaded and fried foods and noodles. Basically, tiny fried chicken nuggets in a sugar sauce!
I will say that Dim Sum places are becoming more popular here so there is some representation!

Again great suggestions of places to eat in Auckland, I’m trying the Cantonese roast meats for lunch and your right the chicken and it is amazballs. Also love the spring onion/garlic sauce.

The HK style French toast is a must at cha chaan teng. Pairs perfectly with yuen yeung too! We love the HK milk tea + coffee combo

Love Dim Sum. Started travelling to HK 30 years ago and stayed mainly in the Tsim Tsa Tsui area. Where I got amazing Dim Sum, Beef Tendon soup, incredible hotels like the Peninsula, Shangri-La and where some of the best Toronto chefs apprenticed, like the amazing Susur Lee. We eat Dim Sum once a week (albeit takeout due to Covid restrictions) as well as Cantonese Chow Mein and Roast Duck. I could go on for days but this is your show and this is truly an excellent episode! Mm Goi!

Oh, I'd go nuts in all those places! Even though I watched at midnight, I made sure I had something to eat. Powdered donuts can't even come close to stacking up to those roast meats over rice, but they did keep me from drowning in my own saliva. Lovely video, guys!
