- During the summer of 2016 we had the honor of being the guests of the Kalinago; the indigenous people of the Caribbean island of Dominica. We Are Kalinago is a short documentary about this fierce tribe who have overcome adversity since the time of their ancestors.
We have Carib communities in St. Vincent. My Dad is a proud Carib. Also, our national hero was a Garifuna by the name of Joseph Chatoyer.

My wife is from Dominica. She also is kalinago. We are going back to Dominica to visit soon. Very excited to visit her country. I'm Chickasaw from America. Again I know I will enjoy her rich culture. Shalom
Same people I believe. Lived in upstate NY near the Akwesasne reservation and always though the natives look exactly like my Kalinago people. I think through ages of migration "the people" settled all throughout the Americas and the Caribbean. Some mixed some stayed pure. Hence the similar features..the hair the eyes.. the nose sometimes

I am St. Lucian and was always told we were of mixed Kalinago decent and this was confirmed through DNA testing. I am so proud to be a part of the indigenous people. It's my dream to visit the Kalinago Territory to learn more about my people

No it is not your fault. And the Text books teach lies about all the Caribs being extinct. It is what I was taught also.

Majority of Dominicans are Kalinago , Grands and Great Grands on both sides of my family are Kalinago.
We are part of you. How could we not be?...rich and courageous is our past. All Dominicans are one. Must!

Hello, I m so happy to view this documentary.. I have so much admiration for your tribes. As we say here, “be strong”, I will not forget your faces and what you are saying. From one indigenous person way out here in New Mexico, your doing it for the future generations to come. We all need this♥️♥️

My wife of 30 yrs says she is carib , her mother was kalingo not sure what it makes her but she grew up just south of Vieille Case. Hopefully we will be visiting Dominica in the new year

At the 8:30 point in this clip Mrs. Sylvanie Burton, she was recently selected by the present Dominican administration to become the next President of Dominica 🇩🇲. That should be on October 1st 2023, when the sitting President's term is over.

Kalinagos do have straight hair, like other Amerindian ethnic groups. The text you mentioned provides this information too...
@@terralexj9468 yeah but the current narrative portrays them as if they were the originals when they are not, they mixed in with us when they came on this side of the planet, so thats why i had to point it out because they tell their story without saying who their parents are
