  • A massive thanks to Amok who have sent me the latest Draumr XL 5.0 to test out. This is my initial unboxing and review and not a full use review. I will be taking this out for a full nights use to test it properly but am really looking forward to it.

    I own a 3.0 XL got it shortly after it's release. I love it. The guide line for the bug net it a great improvement. I never have or will attach it at the foot. I'm not sure about the hole in the net. Probably won't be a thing. I always did set it over the ridge line. BTW the ridge line is a great place to hang a light and fan combo. Some day I will get the larger fry that is offered now. But I have never gotten wet and I have changed just that that.

    Great vid. About the pad. If it’s bending I’m putting some mor air in. Often do that in the night when going to sleep. The air compress when getting colder = more air in the pad. My experience with it.
    Love to se the sleeping review

      I've used it a few times in camps now and love how comfy it is. My only issue is getting in and out and also not really being able to sit up in it and cook as you can't reach table or ground so have to bring another chair. Otherwise it's a great design. 👍

    Great video thanks. Not sure if I'm speaking out of turn, but it looked like you were blowing up the air mattress yourself, and just inflating the bag. Using your own breathe when it cold can ad moisture to the inside of the mattress, which will then freeze and reduce the R value.
    If I'm wrong, I apologize.
    Many thanks good sir

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  Месяц назад +2

      @leooneill1693 no, if you lightly blow into the bag it just opens it and allows you to pump more volume in. It wasn't taking my breath to fill it. Otherwise you'd never get enough air in the pump sack.

    Great vid Mike, heard loads of good things about the Amok, but the weight and price if you add all the extras at almost 700 quid is kinda making me cry 🤣🤣 I mean it's almost the price of a hilliberg and I know where I'd spend my money if I had the choice or that kinda money to throw at camping gear lol, looking forward to seeing how you get on with it mate 👍👍

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  Год назад +2

      Cheers mick. The whole kit should come to less than £600 including delivery and tax but yes its still not cheap. Although it does include a 5r mat which tents don't and if you have one suitable you can use that instead of paying for one. I'm out in tonight testing properly. Vid will be up soon 👍cheers.

    Very cool and practical. Would it be easier to get in and out of the hammock while in "chair mode" ??

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  Год назад +1

      Not really as your quilt falls out. It's actually quite east to get in and out once you've tried it a few times and got the knack but the issue is as it rocks back and becomes more upright when you're getting in, all you gear falls out unless it's tied down. In my later vids I note that if they put a mesh between the two main panels it would hold stuff like quilt and pillow that there isn't room to store anywhere else and stop it falling out. I do like it though but like everything it needs tweeking.

    I own both the Haven and the Amok, I like both, but one thing I’ve found is that in colder weather you will get colder in the Amok, primarily because of two things….1) the pad is 5” LESS WIDTH than the Haven pad and 2) there is no top cover. The Haven has the rain fly/top cover so it can be put into that storm mode to retain the most amount of your body heat, the Amok is open on top save for the bug netting and no matter how low you get the tarp it won’t hold the heat in like the Haven. I’ve used BOTH Amok and Haven in sub-freezing temps and I’m always cold in the Amok, but toasty warm in the Haven. Just my 2 cents.

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  Год назад +2

      Cheers buddy. Oddly i was in it yesterday and found it was much warmer than the Haven during last winter. Only got down to -2 and no wind so was fine but agree about being open and the pad width. When flat on my back I could feel my arms getting cold due to it not being wide enough although I do side sleep so wasn't a major issue. Will see. Thanks for watching 👍

      I really want to get the amok as I don't do too much cold weather camping but I've also looked at the warbonnet blackbird xlc and withe the superfly tarp and under quilt paired with the pad I have I reckon it would be much warmer but probably not as comfortable

    Great review. Looks like a lot of faffing around to set it up, and I dread to think the fun you will have getting out for a pee at 3am...lol
    Also, the tarp looks quite small, which means you limit the usable space in bad weather.
    With the haven it's easy to use a larger tarp. Could you do this here??

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  Год назад +1

      I'm looking at testing it out with my onewind tarp but as the lay is opposite it may not work. We will see. Next time I'm going to get a groundsheet so I can step out without worrying about boots. Will be a lot easier. I'm not giving up on it yet for sure.

    Getting in and out looks like a nightmare, when it rains the hammock acts as a huge funnel and every small movement by the user triggers an hefty counter movement of the hammock, sleeping inside would probably make me seesick (like lying on top of a seesaw). This product is such a mess I cannot believe that anyone would get it over the Haven XL.

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  Час назад +1

      To be honest it's the warmest and most comfortable hammock I've slept in, including the Haven but that's close on comfort. It is a pain getting in and out but that's the only real problem. Storage could be better designed in my eyes but other than that it's a good hammock. If you think about a rocking chair, it's a nice feeling focki g back and forth rather than side to side like a normal hammock so I think if you're going to feel seasick it would probably more likely be in a side to side swing hammock rather than foot to head.

  • @marcushughes9
    @marcushughes9 Год назад +1

    Wondering which you prefer the Amok or the haven tent as far as comfort goes? Would one work better for a stomach sleeper? I like the price of the haven more so I’m just trying to figure out if the amok price brings with it that much more comfort? Thanks for your time.

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  Год назад +2

      Hi Marcus. Having used the Amok a few times now and the Haven loads, I would say for stomach sleeper thr Haven us certainly the best one. It's also a lot easier to get in and out however I would recommend the xl no matter what size you are as you just get that much more space inside and also change out the tarp to normal one like the onewind etc. Makes life a lot easier. 👍

    You should familiarize yourself with product before attempting to demonstrate it. That was embarrassing and misrepresents the genius in the design of this fantastic hammock. You can’t “review” something you know nothing about. This is an “unboxing”, but not a review in any sense of the word.

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  3 месяца назад +1

      First, it is titled and unboxing and 'initial' review. So you seem to have missed that. Secondly. If I'm buying something and all I see is an expert handling it making it look easy then fail miserably when I get it I wouldn't be happy. I get many comments saying it's great to see someone use these things the first time so they see the same issues that they would have when they first use it too. So please don't tell me how to do my job 👍

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  3 месяца назад +1

      p.s. I have been out in it many times since and it's still a pain in the ass to get in and out of and everything falls out when you try to get in it unless it's tied up. Loads of honest users out there say the same thing with this product rather than those paid to review.
