Paul and I are thrilled you will be joining us across the pond in a couple weeks. Cant wait to explore all Denmark has to offer as well. I will be a grand trip for sure.
@@dwk1986 Are you asking us? Well, we just launched the Draumr Double that we're pretty excited about, + some updated Fjøl pads and a few new colors on our Segl XL hammock! :D
I've been sleeping every single night on my Draumr since summer of 2021. That's 1,048 nights. I originally got it because I've never had a comfortable nights sleep camping. I tried it in my back yard for 4 nights and it was so comfortable I gave away my bed/mattress/frame and built a frame to hang it in my bedroom. My room is 8 ft x 6 ft and this is the only hammock that will fit. The key to getting in and out is making sure your body is in the center of the hammock. Right between the center straps. I get in by facing the hammock, placing my left knee on the center of the pad, left hand on the top of the pad, right hand on the right center strap, push the pad down as I put my body weight on my knee while using my right hand to steady myself, and slide my body onto the hammock and laying on my left side in one motion. In the summer I use an uninsulated pad and insulated in winter. I have trouble sleeping when I'm over heated and the hammock lets me be comfortable up to 80F. In winter the thermostat is set for 65F and my room is generally 55F. The top quilt I use is 650 fill and I sleep in a sweat shirt and pants and thick socks. Below 55F, I will clip a second quilt on top of the first one. I use tiny carabiners to clip the corners of the top quilt to the metal d rings on the top straps. That way the quilt stays in place when I roll around. Getting in and out , I move the top quilt biner, from whatever side I get out of, to the ridgeline and reverse when I get back in. I never quite got the knack of getting in and out of a sleeping bag in a hammock. There have been no rips/tears anywhere on the hammock as of 4/14/24. I weigh 220 lbs and the hammock easily supports that. Get the tiny spreader bars for the ends. I drove myself crazy trying to find a suitable material and getting it to fit in the tiny pockets but also long enough it doesn't fall out is a difference of MM's.
I'm in my dutchware chameleon in the freezing cold in a rainstorm in Vermont. Love my draumr xl ul! I'm cold right now but love the company of your videos. Nothing but love from Vermont ❤
Just purchased one before watching this video. All the little "hey, that's nifty" things... make me keep saying "Gee, almost like they THOUGHT of this!" Trekking pole to prop foot end? Thank you for the overview! Excellent job and gives me comfort that I didn't make a silly purchase! Keep on hanging!
The regular version doesn't interest me much weight-wise, but this ultra light version has perked my interest. I'm such a believer in an under quilt system in my gathered end hammocks. Every stich on this thing is so well thought out, thanks for sharing .

2 👍👍s up from me Shug I am soooooo in love with my two XL's. the 5 for regular weather and the UL for those hot Minniesoda times in summer (and when I get to go more than an overnighter) Great to see you out in yours again.😁😁😁 and I do just roll into mine most of the time to get that continued rockin'-- just stick my right knee in the middle MIDDLE and grab the top strap with my right hand and roll into it, stretch out and close my eyes and ENJOY - I also do it the conventional way but that ain't as much fun and much less rockin' LOL hoping this lovely raining stuff we're getting stops for at least a couple days so can hang out some more - don't mind the wet - however not as much "fun" for me.

I'm still having challenges with the gathered end hammock rigeramole but am very much enjoying it all. Enjoy your space hang overseas Shug, we sure do like you sharing your earthly ride. Peace man.
Enjoy the journey. Enjoy the space. Savor learning. One day you will wish you could learn it all over. A hammock like this has that effect. Thanks and Peace backatcha....
Great review. I desperately want one now. No cold shoulder or leg cramp I bet. I can imagine rigging up a small folding table hanging off another ridge line and sitting in that hammock eating a meal on an evening, maybe with a view of a lake. I can also imagine sewing velcro around the flysheet perimeter and hanging more flysheet to go down to the ground and making it into a hot tent for winter.
Fun gear review, Shug! May have to try one next summer! Larry the loon and the other birds were awesome! And yes, it is apparent you enjoy goofing off. :)
If you are a hammock aficionado then this is a fun and very different one for the collection. The bird party made shooting this video more pleasurable.
I have been using the amok for years and I absolutely love it. It is my go to hammock. A little pricy. I’m trying to justify to myself getting the ultra light.
Thanks Shug! ive been looking for a fun hammock to get the kids to go out on the trail with and this one seems like a winner. Thanks for showing it off!
Love your video sir! Long time Watcher First time comment. You are my favorite hammock expert on You Tube I enjoy the winter videos the most! Your sense of humor is awesome! And I've learned so much from your helpful tips! God Bless!!!!
The Amok Draumr has been a part of my kit for just over a year now. It's a "buy once, cry once" piece of gear -- tough to pull the trigger on the order, but well worth the price of admission. Is it right for everyone? Nope. Follow your gut, I reckon 😉 Nice rundown of the features, Shug, thanks!
at one point in time I only had hammocks in my living room 2 chairs and a lay down. My tv was on rollers too. My idea was i could easily move all my "furniture" and tv so I had all sorts of room for activities!
I love the Draumr. I use it all the time. i am shorter so when it is in bed mode I crawl in and the roll over on my back and it works great. I can get out the same way.
@@terkelses Ah yes. We had a good chat by my hammock. I did meet several Jakobs. Really nice to meet you and thankee for coming over to talk. I already miss Denmark. Up at 1am in the morning today after flight home and spent the morn unpacking. A couple of insects stowed away in my luggage!!!
@@shugemery Good to hear that you arrived home in a good manner! No doubt that all danish hammockers appreciated your visit! I sure am thankful! Thanks for the talk and your time! WHOOO BUDDDY😎
I’m loving your video. Had me so interested in how you can stomach sleep that when you scratched like a cat w/ the string I laughed out loud. Enjoy Denmark - you must go to a circus there! I’m wondering now which hammock & quilts you’ll bring. Ya gotta give us a video. Have fun & ❤❤❤❤😊
Most of my time will be taken up by the Euro Hang Con event. Will get a day to wander Copenhagen. I want to try local food. Planning on my Superior Gear hammock. TQ?...not sure yet. Watching weather.
I bought my Amok Draumr back in 2020 (partially based on the reviews you shared). Didnt get to use it in 2020/2021 due to Covid restrictions, I should dig it out and try to get out in the next few weeks now that the snows all gone.
Oh my gawd. Why didn’t I watch this before my failed canoe trip last week ( or should I say unplanned swim expeditions) LMAO. That bug net drove me nuts on my regular Amok. I didn’t realize what that cord was for. lol. Guess reading instructions may have fixed that issue lol. I also think I am hanging too high. I flipped completely in the head position last week. Laughing all the way lol. Feet up in the air, head on the ground or near it. I’m guessing my tension is too much and the angle is wrong. I have a hell of a time getting!in and out of it. The pad seems to create a ridge when I lay in different positions, kinda like caf ridge in a way. I also got a small hole in my tarp. Looks like one of the stakes poked through the fabric on the pocket. Oh well, thems the breaks. Keep up the good work. I just ordered one of your prints, the hammock in the woods. It looks so peaceful. Well Carry on. I have to get up early… EARLY! Lol See ya in the trails. Moose, AKA Jason Schuette
All hammock Tarps I wish they made them where you could zip on additional sections like doors or length. In both my gathered in and draumr I wish there was that option because then I can better adjust for the weather that I am in.
I loved the tarp and loved the mat, but I didnt enjoy the rocking head-to-toe and I felt unstable. I often bend my knees (heels to bum) in the night and it made me tip backward. It was a bit scary for me.
Hi Shug, Ely, UK here. Exped do down filled sleep pad (still needs inflating but it has or had a built in pump system) that has the baffles runnIng head to toe and is rated down to minus 38 Celsius, I've had mine down quite a lot lower some reflective, might be worth you having a look, might even beat your under quilt.
Good ear Alma. We have a couple of eagles that live around our lake year round. We done made friends. Eagles cries and calls don't match their majesty. Sort of like hearing Mike Tyson talk for the first time....
Shug, why the XL and not the standard size. I’m 5’11”. Right at the cutoff between the two sizes, as you are I think. Thanks for all of your inspirational videos.
For backpacking, even the UL amok is too heavy for my tastes. A true ultralight gathered end hammock like a trailheadz banshee ul is 11.5 oz for 275 lbs. Their poltergeist ul is 8 oz for 175 lbs. Shug, have you tried either of those? For now I'm still sticking with my superiorgear hammock. However! For canoe camping in the boundary waters this summer/fall, I could see trying out the amok draumr ultralight xl. That chair mode had me straight envious, thinking about having morning hot chocolate while watching the sunrise, with the loons calling.
Well sometimes you just want a different ride. Small price to pay for chair/recline mode. Never tried the Trailheadz hammocks. Got too many hammocks already. Sitting down by a lake in the BWCA sure would be nice. Might have to ferry mine in.
@@shugemery I thought I had seen that the Superfly works well too but wasn't sure. Anyway, I tell people the Amok tarp works way better than most people think it will.
Great video. Thanks for posting it. I just bought this hammock and I can’t wait to use it. What foam pad did you add on top of the sleeping pad? I just bought the fjol ultralight pad with only an r value of 3.5 and I would love to add another foam pad to increase the warmth.
OD festival in jyderup 26-28 april? I'm going, that's near my ol hood! I'll bet it's 'bushcraft butikken' by Jesper Hede and Co. That's nxt weekend👍 welllll, it's not him/them🥴 but i'll definitely go anyway🤠
Yessir. I fly out this Monday. Th hosts will treat us to a Viking Hut Welcome Wednesday then off to Jyderup. I'll be in hammock area but plan to visit the bushcraft tent.
If you rise your hend and begin to rock to and fro? all the hammock will rocks like a cradle. Do not ask me why I know this ;-) Thank you for your videos!
I have the Amok XL and while I like the convenience of it as far as hanging it I have to say it is not my favorite to get in and out of. In general I prefer my Warbonnet Blackbird XLC just more practical and more comfortable to me at least.
My gathered end hammock like my Warbonnet Eldorado are my go-to...so I do understand the getting in and out thing. Gathered ends were my first camping hammock so I am partial to them. The Draumr is fun and like a Sunday drive car for me.
i have always enjoyed your amok draumr videos but dang it, now i want one! have you ever figured out how many hammocks are too many for one person to own?😹 i do enjoy velcro on my tarp lines (eno profly), i find many uses for them and they do make me more tidy. my yard trees are pretty close and this hammock would be perfect for the yard hang!
I had an XL a few years back, and sold it. I found that the swinging back and forth would go on, and on and on....I got nauseated. Comfortable, but not for me. The winter mattress was awesome though...
Love th hammock intro video. Thanks for making it. One question…it’s an XL right? If so, how tall are you…I am strongly considering this set up after watchin your video. Thanks, John
Seems you are right on the line. You'll just have to give it a go either way. I think I'd go Regular....but you could always contact Amok and ask them.....support@amokequipment.com

I look forward to it too. And meeting Denmark.
Are theJakob I met and talked to on the road...with girlfriend.? I had an AMAZING time!!!!
@@shugemery I’m the Jacob who made you sign his Ultimate Hang book!😆 It was a great pleasure meeting you Shug🙏🤩
Can't wait to meet you, here in Denmark.
I can't wait to try Smørrebrød~~
I really do like this hammock especially for the backyard Lounger like you’re using it for mostly
Chair mode for the Win~~
@@shugemery For sure the only thing I wish they would really update their tarps next
@@monoclehikes68 Do you mean doors? The tarps cover well overall.
@@shugemery Yeah, I mean it would be nice to have a door but after really looking at it and I wish they would upgrade their color choices
Loved hearing Larry the loon at 10:44
A joy daily.
Hey Shug! Hope you're doing well! Excited to see some of this thing!
Whoooooo Buddy)))
I’m loving your video. Had me so interested in how you can stomach sleep that when you scratched like a cat w/ the string I laughed out loud.
Enjoy Denmark - you must go to a circus there!
I’m wondering now which hammock & quilts you’ll bring. Ya gotta give us a video. Have fun & ❤❤❤❤😊
Most of my time will be taken up by the Euro Hang Con event. Will get a day to wander Copenhagen. I want to try local food. Planning on my Superior Gear hammock. TQ?...not sure yet. Watching weather.
My thumbs up made it 100! Woot woot!
Good round numbers for the Win~~~
I bought my Amok Draumr back in 2020 (partially based on the reviews you shared). Didnt get to use it in 2020/2021 due to Covid restrictions, I should dig it out and try to get out in the next few weeks now that the snows all gone.
Yes...time to lollygag!
Sounds like that Amok is out to get ye'.....haaa
Thanks for the tee shirt support. I spend my mad money on candy!!!!
@@shugemery possibly lol. Not the Tee shirt, the Hammock in the woods print (painting) from Etsy. Sorry for the confusion. Hammock on!
@@MOC7844 No my fault. Saw the print order. I'll throw a patch in.....
All hammock Tarps I wish they made them where you could zip on additional sections like doors or length. In both my gathered in and draumr I wish there was that option because then I can better adjust for the weather that I am in.
You could adding a Tarp Beak......dutchwaregear.com/product/2qzq-grizz-beak/
Might work.
I have the regular XL rather than the UL version, and it's awesome! They've just released a new double which looks interesting ...
Me too. The UL is so much lighter and smaller. Amazing.
I loved the tarp and loved the mat, but I didnt enjoy the rocking head-to-toe and I felt unstable. I often bend my knees (heels to bum) in the night and it made me tip backward. It was a bit scary for me.
I've heard of folks shimming theirs with a pack to stop the rocking. It is not for everyone but what in life is?
I have the very first AMOK. I love it but haven't taken it out very much. Ill have to this year
Still have mine too. The updates are so nice. Especially the footbox. ruclips.net/video/B9h91uEgRvQ/видео.htmlsi=893MHA4Nvp6pfHRG
I have an Exped downmat 9 XL. Very warm . I had it in the video but cut it out to shorten the video.
@@shugemery ahh, I should have known the mighty Shug would have tried them!
I like, I could see myself napping it that for hours
I actually did take a good nap in it yesterday between chores~ Lovely day.
9:56 that sounds like a big gull, woah crazy, that loon sounds like a similar call to some gulls.
That was the loon but we do get to occasional gulls.
Shug, Where is the eagle that I am hearing in the background of your video? Yea! nice!
Good ear Alma. We have a couple of eagles that live around our lake year round. We done made friends. Eagles cries and calls don't match their majesty. Sort of like hearing Mike Tyson talk for the first time....
Nice and so much fun to watch. 👍😂
Thanks and Whooooo Buddy))))
I totally want one!
Treat yourself!
I’m on the fence between xl and regular. My husband is 6 foot so he needs N xl but he is not likely to use it more than once 😢
@@karinevans754 I'm 6" and shrinking and like the extra room in the XL.
Dang: look at that thing. It's ready to descend upon Gotham with a side table of chips, a plant & a tv set.
Totally different ride for sure.
Shug, why the XL and not the standard size. I’m 5’11”. Right at the cutoff between the two sizes, as you are I think. Thanks for all of your inspirational videos.
I just like the little bit of extra room. 6 feet and shrinking am I.

Hey Shugg, your fencepost makes me nervous 😳. good to see you again though buddy, the amock is on my wishlist to join my other 15 hammocks 😂
That fence has been holding me up since 2006. Uprights are 4 feet into ground. Worry not.....
Rrgarding a more walled-in tarp, I'm oretty sure Simply Light Designs has a winter tarp for 90 degree hang hammocks like this.
There are options for sure. WB Superfly works pretty good.
@@shugemery I thought I had seen that the Superfly works well too but wasn't sure. Anyway, I tell people the Amok tarp works way better than most people think it will.
Superfly over Draumr.....ruclips.net/video/gG-pg-6en1E/видео.html
Great video. Thanks for posting it. I just bought this hammock and I can’t wait to use it. What foam pad did you add on top of the sleeping pad? I just bought the fjol ultralight pad with only an r value of 3.5 and I would love to add another foam pad to increase the warmth.
Just a generic CCF foam pad from REI.
@@shugemery Awsome🤓 just awsome🤗👍
thanks for another great Video any more books to share?
"Reacher" series.
"The Gray Man"
That'll keep you busy......
If you rise your hend and begin to rock to and fro? all the hammock will rocks like a cradle. Do not ask me why I know this ;-)
Thank you for your videos!
I for one love to be rocking. It eventually stops. But I want more.
Thanks for the video! My husband and I just bought a set of Amoks and can't wait to get outside with them. Where did you get that nifty little table?
Right here at HammockGear.....hammockgear.com/schwarze-biene-outdoor/
I have thought about it for years about getting the Amok. I have arthritis in my shoulders and I wander if this would fit the bill for me comfort wise
Shoulders are free in it. Once you master getting in and out. Hung out in it today for a couple hours between Spring chores.
Hope you will like Danmark and our tress 😊and coffee
I am very much looking forward to seeing and experiencing Denmark. To eat smørrebrød and visit a bakery!!! Tak.
Thankee Shug for the UL review! At 5:20 I noticed a blue tape on your stick. Did you break them?
That was just to hold them together for weighting them on the small scale. No breaks.
AMOK Hammocks: When you want to hang out in style, but also have the option to go full-on AMOK!
Righto~~ Full on....
Run Amok
"behave uncontrollably and disruptively"
i have always enjoyed your amok draumr videos but dang it, now i want one! have you ever figured out how many hammocks are too many for one person to own?😹 i do enjoy velcro on my tarp lines (eno profly), i find many uses for them and they do make me more tidy. my yard trees are pretty close and this hammock would be perfect for the yard hang!
It is a real nice solution to tight tree spacing . Sit and sip and stare.
I had an XL a few years back, and sold it. I found that the swinging back and forth would go on, and on and on....I got nauseated. Comfortable, but not for me. The winter mattress was awesome though...
You are not the only one to mention that. Personally I love it but find many don't. Hammocks have quirks. Tents just sit there...
I belive the poles comes standard now. 😊
Draumr=Dream
Skjold=Shield
Fjøl=Board
Nice. Takk and Whooooo Buddy))))
I always hang my sleeping bag or quilt over the ridge line
Another great use of ridgeline!
Another way for aiming entry or balance, I put my butt between the two gray rectangular pockets on each side. In the 3.0 anyway.
But I have a heavy head and light feet! haaaa
Woo Buddy! Really liking the UL and recliner mode but will it go-to-ground mode?
I have set it up on ground....of course I have! flic.kr/s/aHsmqF37Td
