How Hammocks Changed My Life~~

- Sometimes I've gone through my life trying and trying to change the way I see, hear and feel the World. It is difficult to make happen when you try too hard. But when it just happens without you seeing it coming then be ready to jump on for what could be a rip-roaring ride. A life changer.
Hammocks did that for me in 2006.
The electric bass guitar is currently filling my life with zest and elan.
If you want too be new...take up something new. Dive in completely. Be patient and reap the gifts it can bring.

all of us came to your channel to learn something about hammocks. Most of us have stayed because you capture the essence of the backpacking community. All of us have a story to tell and all of us want to listen to others stories. It is a human connection in a simple form.
Actually, I came here because Shug was showing how he smokes pork butts on a cooker he bought in Lucia, NC.
Stefan, what a lovely comment. You said it so well.
I came for status reports from Sector 7. Have not been disappointed!

Shug, for what it's worth, your channel has changed me into a more positive and appreciative person. Seeing you always do your best despite your age and whatever circumstances life may throw your way motivates me to keep my chin up.
You're an absolute beacon in the backpacking/camping community. Thanks for existing.
Chin up...pip pip and all that. Only way to move forward. Thankee.
I think one of my favorite things to think about in life, is how sometimes people affect your life and not even know it. A RUclipsr from REI is the reason I got a job at REI. You're the reason I know as much about hammocks as I do now. You've affected so many lives, and I'm so glad I stumbled on your channel :)
That is so well said.
That's awesome.

You Tube can be very good sometimes! Thankee and Whoooooo Buddy)))))
I very kind fellow at REI pointed me to your account while attempting to buy a tent far too heavy to backpack the Appalachian trail with. Thank goodness he did, because me and my warbonnet blackbird, and minifly tarp have successfully seen the whole length of the trail together. each night spent in it was a welcome cocoon of warmth and comfort after a hard days hike, it kept me dry in even the worst rain storms the east coast can throw at a shelter. Thank you so much for everything you do Shug, you always bring a smile to my face, and leave me a little more informed than I was before.
Good on ye'!!! Trip of a lifetime I reckon.
@@shugemery it sure was, consider myself very fortunate I had the opportunity to do it.
Started hanging in hammocks around 2007-08 in high school. I remember your videos from way back. Glad to see you're still at it. Always entertaining and educational. Thanks, Shug
Love that. High schoolers watching the old feller have some fun!!
Your video change my life ! because i start hammocking because of your video !! and now i do video about it in french !!! thank you Shug for everything !!!!!!!
Merci! and Whooooo Buddy))))
I hope your realize what you've done to inspire so, so many of us. I've learned so much from you, more than anyone else. And, you're a good content creator. Just really entertaining, no matter what you're covering. Might be BBQ, or Halloween, whatever. I've here for it. You're a real Renaissance man. Thank you so much!

Thanks for the good and fine words. I never could spell Wreneeseance~~~
Well there’s nothing I can say ; I’ve just come back to Shug after a few years & wanted to thank him & show appreciation . 1st comment I see is this. Says everything I wanted to say to him . Job done .
I look at it this way. Had you not got into hammock camping, 110,000 fans would never have known you, even though you've entertained people all your life! I've learned so much about hammocking from you, while being entertained while learning. Woo buddy!!
Thankee and Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Shug, you inspired me many years ago. So in 2017 my daughter, my sister, and I packed up our Shug-recommended gear and hiked and hammock camped in the high country of Yosemite. (I was 57 at the time). We had a blast! This trip most likely would not have happened if I had not stumbled upon your channel. Thanks Shug, for memories of a lifetime ❤
Trip of a lifetime I bet. Far cry from the bayou~~!!!
Love hammocks, then loved winter camping. Love biking. At 63 I got a fat bike. Makes me feel like I'm young again. Challenges keep us young. Keeping the old man out is my mantra. Take care, Al
Fat Bike for the Win! Stay young and open.
I found hammocks when I was 55 thanks to your videos. I have hung my hammock in several national parks and most of the state parks in Michigan. Best "new path" in my life
I great and comfy path to be sure.....
Michigan is a hanging paradise, I ride all over the state on bike with just a hammock. Sleeping on the ground sucks at this point in life 💀(I'm fairly close at 42)
Shuga shug. I am a hammockphile because of your great presentations. Greetings from Alaska!
Yessir! We have Alaska family. Been a few times myself.
I just alerted the fine folks at Medaglia D' Oro about you and your one man effort to get the the entire population of the planet camping in hammocks and sipping their instant espresso. You're the one who got me and my daughter hammock camping, and me sipping Medaglia D' Oro each morning from my Hennessey Hammock and my home sewn under quilt and top quilt. You are inspirational to so many.

I wasn’t much of an outdoors person until my son joined Cub Scouts. Almost simultaneously we were introduced to hammocks and then found your videos. We have loved watching you - both the education you provided us and the entertainment. Here we are 10 years later and we so enjoy our outdoor adventures together and we both enjoy being known as the hammock guys in our troop…thanks to your tutelage.
We have Dutch in our backyard and his support has furthered our journey too.
I would have to say hammocks have changed/enhanced our lives too!

You bloody magnificent legend!! Thanks Shug. Them there words was real good! Deep. Prismatic. And sublime. But most of all straight from your glorious heart. It was wonderful to hear and learn from that sweet soulful philosophy. 🙏
Rare I speak truth. But I did!
SO GLAD you got into hammocking. You’re helping so many people!
Getting into hammocks had added so MUCH to my life. Thankee for the good and kind words.....
Hey Shug, I didn't know how much I missed that hat Hahaha but seriously, I'm 45 and kind of new to hammocks like you know. You talk about finding something new. It can also be something about ourselves. As an example, A few years ago, I discovered I'm in the autism spectrum (Asperger syndrome). This helped me understand a bunch of things about myself and why I perceived the world the way I did (and still am). The journey of discoveries still goes on and I really like videos like this one where you go deeper than usual. Keep them coming and Whoooooooo buddy
I know a few folks with Aspergers. They are interesting people. One is an amazing juggler.
This video was good for me to make. plus....all I had to do was sit and talk. I'll be doing more like this. Merci~
I haven't gotten tired of you. I remember watching you because you were doing a bunch of alcohol stove content. All these years, all the smiles you've put on my face. Thank you!
WOOOO BUDDY)))))))
Thanks for the good and fine words.
This man is the reason I got into hammocking! Now I’ve been lucky enough to share with others. Thanks Shug
Sharing it is worthy!
I’m a solo retired traveler and have a hammock with me at all times. Just today I hung for a couple hours in the shade of a live oak and cabbage palms in a city park overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Music and a picnic included. I’ll bring my hammock to the alps this summer for 4 months around Europe. Never slept overnight in it but cherish it all the same. Thanks for sharing and inspiring us.
Your day sounds real nice. Don't you love being retired?? I sure do!
SHUUGGG!!!! Keep making the videos! You were the final creator in helping to make my decision to get into hammock camping. Even though I'm disabled now, and the hammock makes it easier to sleep thru a usually pain filled night even in a memory foam mattress. I'll be forever grateful to you for making that first and continously since video. I'm also thankful to the many I've encountered, who took time out of their trip (or day) to care about sending me some learned advice of the very relaxing skill known as hammock camping.
Glad to hear it eased the sleep pain. Whooooo Buddy))))
I love being in a hammock you get so much enjoyment out of seeing nature and the sunrise and the sunset you're not cooped up in a you just enjoy life
I concur!!!
Hey, Shug!
I have enjoyed your videos and open approach to life. You allowed strangers into part or your life and entertained all of us.
I always thought about Shug as what my generation called a penpal. We never met, but I’ve considered us friends of sorts.
I was honored for you to send me a short clip for one of my videos years ago.
Thanks for your unknowing friendship.

Hmmmm...comment boogied outta here....
Great video. I probably wouldn't have ended up backpacking unless that Texas freeze in 2021 happened. That freaked me out so I picked up a backup battery. That led to car camping, hiking, and then backpacking. That led to ham radio, camp cooking, and many other rabbit holes like hammocks. Love each journey.
Keep jumping in those holes. Leads to fun~!
Shug I’m so glad that you found hammocks. I rekindled my love of hiking and camping after I watched a couple of your videos of the SHT. I shared them with my buddy Dan, you met him a while back in the Boundry waters. I fell in a rabbit hole, but I ended up tenting for a decade. You’ve showed me many things that I’ve copied. My imusa cook pot with a Tinny lid, I gravity filter water. I finally got a Superior gear hammock this year. I’ve seen and fell in love with this state’s wilderness. Part of is because I got excited about camping watching your videos.
From the deepest cockles of my heart, thank you Shug. You are truly a treasure. I hope to cross paths on the trail with you.
Ahhh Dan. Funny meeting him out there. The rabbit hole is fun to plummet down into for sure.
You know! curiosity is a sign of intelligence! Thank you my friend for passing on your passion to us! Merci encore et prends soin de toi xxx
I love that!!! Merci.
You’ve inspired me to check out hammocks and even though it's going slow. Slow and steady is better than nothing at all. Just wanted to say I greatly enjoy your videos and am always amazed by your incredible outlook in life.
One of these years maybe we’ll meet on a trail up in the BWCA. ;)
Enjoy the journey and be patient.
Great video and loved the journey! Side note My old man called two trees rubbing in the wind a witches fiddle. Creepy back then but wholesome now. Peace!
I will forever call it that now!!! Brilliant term. Thankee..

I've definitely been in a rutt. I've noticed it now and need to do something about it.
You're an inspiration, Shug!
Something will knock you out of the rut if you let it in.....
Been a tent camper my whole life. Over the years I have dabbled with hammocks . Just couldn't get into the swing of things. I was using an eno double nest. About a year and a half ago I made a serious effort to give it a solid chance as I could see the advantages. Bought a quality set up, Warbonnet Eldorado with a wooki and gave it a go. Wow!!! I have made the switch. Something clicked and I'm absolutely loving it!!! I have since been using a superior gear hammock, 30º version. I actually have a superior underqulit waiting for me to pick up at the post office today! I plan to turn the superior setup into my deep winter rig. I am dorking right out on hammock stuff. Now every time I find myself in the woods with one of my trusty tents, I am wishing I had my hammock. At 41 years old, I am converted. Hammocks are where it's at! So is RUclips! I have made some solid friends through the platform. A lot of what you say in this video is very relatable. Funky bass groove at the end. I have a Stratocaster in a very similar color scheme! Keep thumping man!
Take a few tries sometimes for hammocks to take. Worth the effort. Off to pluck the bass now.....Thankee and Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Wise as ever Shug! What a lovely video!
Thankee and Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Shug, I really enjoy your passionate, silly, bright-spirited nature and the way you let loose stream-of-consciousness and go down random tangents with voices and noises purely for (self) amusement. I didn't fully understand why I enjoyed it so much until my girlfriend pointed out that I tend to do the same things and am a lot like you; I realized that I have never met anyone else like us and I immediately felt less alien, haha. It occurs to me that maybe I missed my calling in life as a clown! I am very glad that hammocks and RUclips changed your life because, as a result, it changed mine too: you inspire me and your videos have given me many nights of joy so thankee much and God bless you and yours. Hope all is always secure in sector seven. 🤡
If clown is in you...it is in you! Thankee for the good and fine words.

I was tinkering with a saxophone while watching this video. When you said the Bass took you back to the songs of your youth it was quite a revelation. What I was playing was the beer barrel polka. I have not heard that song played in probably 50 years.
That is cool! Roll out the barrel. My sis in law is getting back into sax.

Never too late! Thankee and Whooooo Buddy))))
Shug! Still watching you! Hired you to do our street fair in Grand Forks 8 years ago. Would have never happened if it wasn't for seeing you on hammock forums!
I recall that fondly!!!
I’ve been a fan of your channel long before I had a channel of my own. You crack me up man. I like the bbq videos too. I just have you a shout out in my last video too. 😂. I even have my wife saying “EARLY!” every time she hears it.

“Hammocking is kinda fiddly”. This is a mantra for life. I say this to myself when ever I hit an obstacle. And maybe a whoo buddy when I “figure it out”. Thanks.
Problem solving fun time!
1. Hammocks are amazing.
2. RUclips is great because of people like you who know something about (topic) and decide to help others by making videos about it. It's really the best part of social media.
I'm watching so many bass videos. You Tube can be strong!
Hammock Camping combined with fishing is my love in life. Your videos are so helpful and enjoyable I am so blessed to be on this journey.

I owe everything I know about hammocking, Superior Hiking Trail, Packit Gourmet, and great snacks like Coffee Crisp candy bars to Shug. We have even done some BWCA trails. When I hike I really appreciate all the work he does to make those videos when he could be exploring Sector 7 and lollygagging. I now have five hammocks and two ULA packs.
Thankee Pappy~~
Shug, you’re the greatest philosopher of our time. Your videos help my heart sing. Thank you.
My Mom said it was just all blarney!!! Thankee.
I’m one of those youtube audience folks that never heard of hammocks.
Then one day in late 2016 after watching thruhikes and bushcraft videos, one of your videos popped up in my suggested videos.
And after binge watching most of the videos It’s safe to say it completely changed my hiking life.
it went from basically non-existing to having 60-70 nights out in the piney woods all year round, mostly shorter solo hikes which was nothing I’d ever considered before watching your videos.
I’m forever grateful and also your red slaw has become a staple anytime there’s a barbecue here 😊

If there was a HHOF...Hammock Hall of Fame - You would be the grandfather! Thanks Shug....
There are so many that came before me. I just take all the info I glom and present it. Thankee.

Hammocks for sure changed my life. 56 y/o now and just got back into hiking a few years ago and had to buy all new gear. bought nice tent and sleeping pad but found at my age I was not able to sleep. Bought a hammock and never looked back. Even in a bad hang I sleep better than on the ground. Thank you for your content which helped, for me, the transition from tent to hammock seamless.
Enjoy the hammock quest! Thankee and Whoooooo Buddy)))))
The hammockforums people are great, love it over there
Also I don’t think you realize what an impact you’ve made on so many people’s lives with your videos. Imagine how many people you’ve taught to hammock camp? Even if you don’t hammock your videos are so relaxing and entertaining. You are a gift my friend

Shug, you are an inspiration. I got back into backpack camping, then started trying hammocks. I had a few other u tubers make me drag out my 1974 canoe, that was got by mowing yards. Now have three canoes, 2 backpacks like your versions, 3 sleeping bags for different temp and pads. 3 hammocks and quilt sets for different temps. I did only get a few stoves, and cook sets. Oh the u line controlled planes, building a P 38 right now. But all of this has gave me great enjoyment, due to you. Thanks for being you
Things mean more the second time around sometimes.
I recently discovered your channel. I'm a Jeeper (2007 Wrangler JK 2 door called The Sno-Goat) and I found your video with the hammock hanger that mounts on your tow-hitch. I got into hammocks a few years ago on a Jeep trip. Living in Southeast Alaska, we have plenty of trees, but also plenty of wet ground, rocks, roots, branches and other obstacles for ground tents. Hanging above the muck with a good under-quilt, a bug screen and rain-fly canopy over the top and any other tarps used for wind blocks as needed, is a great way to go camping in the less-than-ideal weather of the area. Mine is a 4-season set-up, same with my sleeping mat, sleeping bag, and other gear.
The hitch is handy when I need it. Often at my families lake houses and such. Whooooo Buddy))))
I found your channel about 3 years ago while researching hammocks.
As a boy scout and wilderness explorer back in the 1970s I had a net hammock and a yellow tube tent which I closed off with clothespins, don't laugh - it worked!
Three years ago I decided on and purchased a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC hammock. It is my go-to setup and have used it exclusively since then.
So Shug, I want to personally thank you for all of the invaluable tips and information that you have provided to all of us!!
The classic tube tent!
I saw your title and I can say the same thing! About 17 years ago, as an avid backpacker on BackpackingLight forums, I realized I was too old to sleep on the ground. Stumbled upon Hammock Forums, probably through Just Jeff. My first hammock a Warbonnet Blackbird based on your recommendation! Attended the 2nd annual group hang in Texas, then worked with a few others to get the Florida group hang going (and did that ever grow!). I have found more than friends... I have found brothers and sisters in hammocks!! Keep on hanging, philosophying and playing your bass, Shug. All the best!
I know you! Good to see you around. Hammock Family.
Sewed my first tarp and hammock after watching your videos. That was like ten years ago. You inspired me to take camping in a completely different direction. Pure fun bro. Thank you so much.
Nothing like snoozing dryly under a tarp you made yourself.
Oh what a trip down memory lane. I remember starting hammock camping in 2005. Everything was so new; hammocking, internet groups, You Tube. Suddenly everyone was trying to work out how not to be cold. Fit an under-hammock and fill it with dried leaves, Or, use garbage bags full of air under the hammock.Or only use a hammock when its really warm.
Your techniques and experiments were always interesting and always well done. Still are. The comments here show how important you have been.
I hope you feel it has been worthwhile.
I was thinking out the leaf filled garbage bags the other day. The Garlington Insulator. All I could think of was spiders!
Oh Shug, you are the Ray Manzarek of Hammocks and soon to be of the electric bass! Yes we are watching your cool videos and yes, you are talking to someone in there. Thanks for these great videos and for cheering us all up when feeling down. You’re a great inspiration and mentor!
The bass has taken me over. And I like it!
I hope you know that you are an inspiration to people all over the world (i for one am from germany), and a great source of wisdom on hammocking and general life advise. Thank you.
Danke.....Thanks for the good words.
I started watching you when I was a freshman in Highschool, 2009. I watched all of your videos. I don’t get to camp much anymore, but plan to start back once my 2 year and 6 month old are able to go with me.
I used to tell people you and Hickok45 were my RUclips grandpas. Whoo buddy!
We are Grandpa aged!!!
You helped me go down a different path!
I had already felt the urge to disappear into the woods for a little while, especially with everything going on in recent years, but of all the camping videos I saw, what really stuck out is you saying you got 10-12 hours of sleep. Sold me right away.
If I didn't stumble upon your channel, not only would I not be considering hammock camping, I might not have gotten that little extra bit of motivation to actually go out into the woods. Thanks for that!
That extended slumber for the Win!!!!
I have never once layed in A Hammock Shug. But I’ve watched all your videos and enjoyed them all.
Never do! You may never get out of it.........

Different uncles taught me fishing, ice fishing, and hunting. You’ve been my hammock and just like you said how it brings you into all the rest my backpacking, mini stoves, water filtration, etc uncle. Awesome...yes, I typed awesome. Thankee for the good words.
Besides showing gear etc. One of my other favorite things about your video trips is just getting to see the destinations and gives me ideas of places to go👌⛺️
I could and should travel off further but it just requires more planning. I like to just grab-and-go!
Oh. You've learned me a lot about hammock camping, and you have put many smiles on my lips! Thank you Shug for sharing!
Glad to help with the hammock edumencation~~
I discovered this channel after moving from Alaska to Minnesota. I was desperate to get outdoors and do some hiking but didnt know enough about the area to even know where to start.
Thanks to your channel I found the Superior Hiking Trail, Boundary Waters, etc and have been out exploring ever since. The only downside was the hit to my wallet as I also had to try out hammock camping and now I have a basement full of tarps, hammocks and quilts!
We got good camping here and you are even closer to it now!!
You were the reason i got my first hammock and have continued to enjoy it. It was a huge upgrade to my camping life
I'm glad to hear that you caught the hammock quest groove~~~
You helped me upgrade from an Eno hammock setup to an actual camping hammock and tarp years ago when was in Boy Scouts and wanted to be the comfiest at camp. That switch to a better setup is probably what kept me from going back to a tent. I’ve been on countless amazingly comfortable trips since and have been lucky enough to get to introduce others to the great world of hammocks. Thank you for introducing me to the world of cottage vendors and hammocks that are actually meant for camping.
Ain't it tops to be sleeping good and long and dreamy in the woods! Whooooo Buddy)))) Just got a Majestic hammock and getting to know it.
The wind through the trees is one of my favorite sounds in the world. Helps calm the soul.
Glad to see you are still making videos and sharing your world with us.
Thanks for everything and I hope to payback that meal someday. 😂 sneaky Shug.
Hey LC. I am still at it. You still in TX?
@@shugemery Shug, you have a great memory. Still in TX! And you still read every comment! That is amazing. I am not as active on the forums. I check it out here and there but don't post much. Still go to the Texas Fall Hang every year but the State Park that we have been going to was sold for housing development. Things change; have to keep that mind open, right?
Shug, as well as the whole hammock thing, you also changed my hiking / camping life by turning me into a stuffer. I used to be a folder / roller. Now I have at least a couple of extra minutes to stare at the nature because I know all I gotta do is cram everything back into the stuff sack all willy nilly without a care in the world.
Stuffer for the Win!!!
Found your channel when I wanted to hammock camp the Appalachian Trail in 2017 now after the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Continental Divide Trail all in a hammock I'm still here enjoying all your videos!
Wow! Congratulations and the big walks~
I've backpacked all my life or at least car camped. My back issues finally made me unable to sleep on the ground. I couldn't sleep and hurt. I woke up cranky and irritable. Not good as a scout leader. A friend suggested hammocks. I tried a $20 Amazon hammock and was hooked. I sleep so much better in it than even at home with the Sleep Number. Love your channel for over 5 years.
Thankee and Whoooooo Buddy)))))
i got into hammocks because it causes me less pain to sleep in one, i am a side sleeper with a shoulder problem. you taught me i can sleep in a hammock and go camping again. THANK YOU
I'm happy to hear you are getting good and pain free sleep.
Had a chuckle. I played "Tighten Up" in a garage band in my high school years. I played trumpet on that song to "Make it Mellow". I'm just taking that path to hammocking at 68 years old and you've been my guide of sorts. Thanks!!
Too cool. Always loved Hugh Masekela. Enjoy that hammock quest. Good to be new~
Been a subscriber for many years and learned everything from you when I was starting out with hammocks. You've made an impact on so many people's lives with your camera and hammock gear. Your cyber family loves you Shug!
Good words Steve....thankee.
Found you because of hammocks but stuck around because I like your content. You have many talents and bring enthusiasm to them.

Tell you what shug, YOU changed my life in a similar way. I came across your videos in preparation for a winter camping trip in the BWCA that I was going on for a class in highschool, and it was a completely new experience for me and I was SERIOUSLY nervous about it. But you were having such a good time in -40 degree weather camping, I thought well surely there is something to this and I went for it with a completely different frame of mind. And it was an incredible trip and I learned so much and from there I caught the bug. When I got back I watched a bunch of your other videos and similarly I figured hammock camping was something to try. And it was just another avenue that I took to learn and appreciate the outdoors and nature, which I had never been akin to for the first 18 years of my life at the time. Your enthusiasm for the outdoors is infectious. And I am very grateful for you uploading these videos, I'm not sure I would have ever become a hammock camping backpacker if it weren't for the reassurance your videos gave me to enjoy a camping trip 8 years ago. THANK YOU
Glad to hear it had some value and that you are still at it. I also liked that you used the word "akin." No-one uses that enough. Whoooooo Buddy))))
Shug you are a wize online friend. I don't watch every vid but when I do I still like your style.
Thanks for that.
I have loved your journey nearly as much as I have enjoyed my parallel journey. You've taught us all, entertained us and brought us together as a community. Thanks Shug!
Thankee Scott. Real real good.
You had me from your video titled Minus 40F Backpacking Trip 9 years ago. From there you have taught me, guided me, inspired me with a few laughs in between! Heck its the reason I was able to get up to Ely area and the BWCA and do some hammock camping with the family. Hammock camping has changed the way I backpack for the better for sure and I have you to thank for that. To many more hangs with coffee!! Cheers to Shug!
Yeah man. Good times abound.
I will never tire of you Shug. In fact you are still very relevant and enjoyable to watch.
Thankee
Hammocks have definitely changed my sleep pattern when camping. Even with a Tempur-Pedic mattress/box spring at home, my back would scream at me to get out of bed after 8 hours' time. The first few times I camped with a hammock I found I'd better use the restroom before going to sleep, because it was probable that I'd sleep for 10-12 hours! And NOT wake up hurting. I can't do that on a cot (let alone on the ground!). My first hammock was an ENO Double Nest, and I'm still using it. I like that I have the option of putting something in the pocket and flipping it over me as another cover layer. It keep the wind at bay on a cold night and another layer from bugs flying about. And, agreed, one needs to find something to learn about. Thanks Shug, always a pleasure.
Good words. Whoooooo Buddy))))
Thanks Shug you have changed this 72 year old man from car camping into hammock camping! Yes I consider you a live friend.🤓
So glad too hear that.
Hello old friend. You and I joined HF around the same time. I remember your first videos, and I too went into hammock camping with both feet, full in! Was a fun, fun ride!! Being a founding member of NEHHA, we built a great local community, and, to this day, it is still active. I have since sold all of my hammock gear, and actually got out of camping altogether for years. Just recently I started car camping again-except now its called overlanding-and actually picked up an ENO double nest a couple years ago, for lounging and napping. I remember the days when you had a choice of either a Hennessy hammock, or a cottage industry one-or make your own. It was exciting to see it all grow, watch all the innovations. I remember when Dutch first started making gear, when he attended a few of our meet ups. How a select few of us got our grubby hands on his "wares" before they were mass marketed. Ah, the heady days of yore!!!
Overlanding is booming. Last time in the Linville Gorge so so many Jeeps pulling rally cool rigs. Amped up car camping for sure. May get into it myself someday.
You definitely were born to be an entertainer no doubt. And you have some beautiful words of wisdom. I found your channel because of camping and backpacking. But I stay and keep coming back because of the things you say, the way you make me laugh and the way you make me look at things in such a different way.
Thanks Shug 👍
I thank you from my soul for your right good and kind words. Whooooo Buddy)))
You are the only reason I even decided to try hammock camping, you made it all so approachable. Thanks for what you do for this community!
Hammock onward......
Love your videos Shug. You helped me get into hammock camping years ago. I have now hammock camped on and off for the past six years. I love that you make them and talk to "me". Thank you! Keep 'em coming!
Thankee and Whooooo Buddy))))
Funny I wanted something new and had a friend who was a hammocker and I laid in it and I was hooked. Then he pointed me to your channel and I have brought six people into hammocking and all of them I sent here for your wealth of knowledge. Now I am looking into hammock hot tents!!
Enjoy your hammock quest. Long sleep to you.....
One time while hiking there were two trees rubbing against each other and making that rubbing sound. I put my ear tightly against the smooth bark of one of the trees and listened closely. The sound was amazing.
Too cool. A guy on here said his Grandpa calls the trees doing that a Witches Fiddle. I'll use that forever now.
shug, my life changed drastically because of hammocks, too. my beginning was meeting a woman in a parking lot who had woven a hammock out of paracord.
so i did that too. and then i realized i needed a good camping hammock. and i found you. you helped me land in the hammock forums and you helped me sort out what gear i wanted.
because you were there, i have helped other people get into the outdoors. i teach this stuff now. got a medal for my work last year. i've started to work on an abandoned childhood dream of hiking the long trail. i'm old and have physical challenges, so we'll be section hiking, but we're doing it.
we were up at corliss camp some weeks ago, and i remembered a video you'd posted about being there.
my life is better because you were here.
thanks.
Enjoy that Long Trail It has some tough sections on that North end. Hickery and I hope to go back and do more sometime.
