I think one of my favorite things to think about in life, is how sometimes people affect your life and not even know it. A RUclipsr from REI is the reason I got a job at REI. I very kind fellow at REI pointed me to your account while attempting to buy a tent far too heavy to backpack the Appalachian trail with. Thank goodness he did, because me and my warbonnet blackbird, and minifly tarp have successfully seen the whole length of the trail together. each night spent in it was a welcome cocoon of warmth and comfort after a hard days hike, it kept me dry in even the worst rain storms the east coast can throw at a shelter. Thank you so much for everything you do Shug, you always bring a smile to my face, and leave me a little more informed than I was before.

Just today I hung for a couple hours in the shade of a live oak and cabbage palms in a city park overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Music and a picnic included. It can also be something about ourselves. As an example, A few years ago, I discovered I'm in the autism spectrum (Asperger syndrome). This helped me understand a bunch of things about myself and why I perceived the world the way I did (and still am). I shared them with my buddy Dan, you met him a while back in the Boundry waters. I fell in a rabbit hole, but I ended up tenting for a decade. You’ve showed me many things that I’ve copied. My imusa cook pot with a Tinny lid, I gravity filter water. I finally got a Superior gear hammock this year. I’ve seen and fell in love with this state’s wilderness. Part of is because I got excited about camping watching your videos.

Been a tent camper my whole life. Over the years I have dabbled with hammocks . Just couldn't get into the swing of things. I was using an eno double nest. About a year and a half ago I made a serious effort to give it a solid chance as I could see the advantages. Bought a quality set up, Warbonnet Eldorado with a wooki and gave it a go. Wow!!! I have made the switch. Something clicked and I'm absolutely loving it!!! I have since been using a superior gear hammock, 30º version. I actually have a superior underqulit waiting for me to pick up at the post office today! I plan to turn the superior setup into my deep winter rig. I am dorking right out on hammock stuff. Now every time I find myself in the woods with one of my trusty tents, I am wishing I had my hammock. At 41 years old, I am converted. Hammocks are where it's at! So is RUclips! I have made some solid friends through the platform. A lot of what you say in this video is very relatable. Funky bass groove at the end. I have a Stratocaster in a very similar color scheme! Keep thumping man!

Bought a hammock and never looked back. Even in a bad hang I sleep better than on the ground. Thank you for your content which helped, for me, the transition from tent to hammock seamless.

As a boy scout and wilderness explorer back in the 1970s I had a net hammock and a yellow tube tent which I closed off with clothespins, don't laugh - it worked!
Three years ago I decided on and purchased a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC hammock. It is my go-to setup and have used it exclusively since then.

You helped me upgrade from an Eno hammock setup to an actual camping hammock and tarp years ago when was in Boy Scouts and wanted to be the comfiest at camp. That switch to a better setup is probably what kept me from going back to a tent. Thank you for introducing me to the world of cottage vendors and hammocks that are actually meant for camping.

shug, my life changed drastically because of hammocks, too. my beginning was meeting a woman in a parking lot who had woven a hammock out of paracord.
so i did that too. and then i realized i needed a good camping hammock. and i found you. you helped me land in the hammock forums and you helped me sort out what gear i wanted.
because you were there, i have helped other people get into the outdoors. i teach this stuff now. got a medal for my work last year. i've started to work on an abandoned childhood dream of hiking the long trail. i'm old and have physical challenges, so we'll be section hiking, but we're doing it.
we were up at corliss camp some weeks ago, and i remembered a video you'd posted about being there.
my life is better because you were here.

Oh what a trip down memory lane. I remember starting hammock camping in 2005. Everything was so new; hammocking, internet groups, You Tube. Suddenly everyone was trying to work out how not to be cold. Fit an under-hammock and fill it with dried leaves, Or, use garbage bags full of air under the hammock.Or only use a hammock when its really warm.
Your techniques and experiments were always interesting and always well done. Still are. The comments here show how important you have been.
I hope you feel it has been worthwhile.

Stumbled upon Hammock Forums, probably through Just Jeff. My first hammock a Warbonnet Blackbird based on your recommendation! Attended the 2nd annual group hang in Texas, then worked with a few others to get the Florida group hang going (and did that ever grow!). I have found more than friends... I have found brothers and sisters in hammocks!! Keep on hanging, philosophying and playing your bass, Shug. All the best!

I recently discovered your channel. I'm a Jeeper (2007 Wrangler JK 2 door called The Sno-Goat) and I found your video with the hammock hanger that mounts on your tow-hitch. I got into hammocks a few years ago on a Jeep trip. Living in Southeast Alaska, we have plenty of trees, but also plenty of wet ground, rocks, roots, branches and other obstacles for ground tents. Hanging above the muck with a good under-quilt, a bug screen and rain-fly canopy over the top and any other tarps used for wind blocks as needed, is a great way to go camping in the less-than-ideal weather of the area. Mine is a 4-season set-up, same with my sleeping mat, sleeping bag, and other gear.

Tell you what shug, YOU changed my life in a similar way. I came across your videos in preparation for a winter camping trip in the BWCA that I was going on for a class in highschool, and it was a completely new experience for me and I was SERIOUSLY nervous about it. But you were having such a good time in -40 degree weather camping, I thought well surely there is something to this and I went for it with a completely different frame of mind. And it was an incredible trip and I learned so much and from there I caught the bug. When I got back I watched a bunch of your other videos and similarly I figured hammock camping was something to try. And it was just another avenue that I took to learn and appreciate the outdoors and nature, which I had never been akin to for the first 18 years of my life at the time. Your enthusiasm for the outdoors is infectious. And I am very grateful for you uploading these videos, I'm not sure I would have ever become a hammock camping backpacker if it weren't for the reassurance your videos gave me to enjoy a camping trip 8 years ago. THANK YOU

Hammocks have definitely changed my sleep pattern when camping. Even with a Tempur-Pedic mattress/box spring at home, my back would scream at me to get out of bed after 8 hours' time. The first few times I camped with a hammock I found I'd better use the restroom before going to sleep, because it was probable that I'd sleep for 10-12 hours! And NOT wake up hurting. I can't do that on a cot (let alone on the ground!). My first hammock was an ENO Double Nest, and I'm still using it. I like that I have the option of putting something in the pocket and flipping it over me as another cover layer. It keep the wind at bay on a cold night and another layer from bugs flying about. And, agreed, one needs to find something to learn about. Thanks Shug, always a pleasure.
