  • Tonight I test out the latest revision of the Skynest 3 in 1 hammock. This all in one ultralight hammock is amazingly easy to set up in just 2 minutes and can be used all in one, tarp pn it's own, hammock on its own or even a ground tent. Find it here.

    Sounds like what I've been looking for, will you do a vid on the tent setup too. I'll have to see that set up before i get one. Nice one 👍

    I think you had a problem obtaining a "flat lay" was because you are too tall for this hammock. I am six foot one and require an eleven-foot hammock to achieve a "flat lay." A twelve-foot hammock is ideal for me. I think you are taller than me, so you would require a twelve-foot hammock or longer. Manufacturers do not mention this information generally.
    Would you need to attach drip lines on the ridgeline or suspension to prevent water, during inclement weather, getting into the hammock space by capillary action?

      Depends if you have much tree strap left over. That would work as a drip line. But yes agree that the length is the issue for me although the pad is not far off my height.

    Looks near perfect. I am concerned about how reputable this company is because it is a very tempting offer, but dealing with an unknown overseas company gives me pause. Does anyone know anything about this company?

      It's a new kickstarter so no but what I can say is it feels really well made. Haven started on kickstarter with no previous business as did many others so it's a matter of a leap of faith but you jabe warranty etc and they seem responsive I'm my dealings with them and even made changes after my first review to resolve the issues 👌

    Something I've always wondered about hammocks. A bit like a web with a diagonal tension field (due to thin fabrics , probably non linear behaviour as well). Your explanation seems to bear this out too. Worthy of a simulation model to evaluate designs. I wonder if anyone did this.

      I'd love to have been able to use some kind of graphic to show how the mat sits inside at the width it's at but I don't have those skills or the technology 🙄

    It’s nice that you gave the demo and actually used it the same day to continue the review
    The mat seems like it’s too rigid to conform to the shape of the hammock when a person is in it
    Not sure if the tarp would protect you from heavy rain, always a good idea to bring an extra light weight tarp..just in case
    Over all, it looks like a nice hammock set
    Until the next time..take care 🇨🇦❤️

      I think the hammock needs to be longer for the mat to be able to get a more flat lay. The tarp is actually fine for rain as it seems to have all angle covered specially when pinned down if it was in bad rain, but like the haven, but a better amount of area to cook under etc. when open 👍 thanks for watchingas always

    Is that the mating call of the Novice Wild camper, or a Harrier jump jet about to clear the woodland canopy?? 😂 All joking apart, I’m impressed, and I normally go for separate components for my hammock/tarp setup. Thanks for the show and tell, can you let us know how long the hammock part is please? 👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🥃. ps A down underquilt is an absolute game changer in terms of comfort in the hammock, you’d never go back to using a mat 👍🏻

      I normally use my onetigris down under quilt tbh but this came with the pad and it wasn't cold so thought I'd test without.

    silly decision to have the bugnet attached to the fly instead of hammock - on those warm summer night one might drop the flysheet, but bugs ain't going to just sit that one night out 😂

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  29 дней назад

      The whole point of the hammock is to be able to put it up all in one yet be able to use separately. If the bug net was only on the hammock then you'd just have a basic hammock the same as every other one that weighed twice as much

      @zoladkow 29 дней назад

      @@NoviceWildCamper well, duh, obviously and i don't disagree. my issue is with that single usecase that they advertise themselves. I can't think where on earth you could sleep on a hot summer night and not be bugged by bugs. In the wild of course.

    • @zoladkow
      @zoladkow 29 дней назад

      @@NoviceWildCamper and obviously - the rain. while you can set it up all at once, you'd definitely need to pack it separately when the fly is wet.

      @@NoviceWildCamper what's the point of ♥️ your own comments?

    • @zoladkow
      @zoladkow 29 дней назад +1

      @@NoviceWildCamper "twice as much" that's really hard to achieve given the skynest already weights in at 1500g unless you want to go ultra cheap instead of ultra light. My system, where every piece can be used separately, and can be used directly on the ground too, is about 1100g. and it's a 3x3 tarp so it's even roomier underneath. And the cost of that as i checked right now would be 230€ (about 250$) ok, that's not great in comparison, not without a discount like Travelbird is offering. But if i give up on the convenience of buying it all in a set it can drop to 170€, or you can fine tune it to your liking.
      It's the Bushmen brand that I'm specifically referring to here.
      edit: but i don't disprove of the advantage of skynest which is the convenience of setting it up in one go. I can see this is a quality that can be appealing and i do think it's good there's someone offering a choice in that regard. just pointing to some obvious compromises they made that might make it less flexible in some scenarios 😊
