    Hey Mike, so glad you finally have a hammock, woodland camping is a whole different experience, and I too love the fells and views, but the woods are very special 👌 I'm very confident you are going to love them too pal 👍😁 great of Derek to send you one for shipping costs only 👏👏👌 I wouldn't worry too much about weight, woodland camping is always a heavy pack, Although the pack size compared to a normal hammock does concern me a little 🤔 but good value for money with the mat included 👍 good they give you daisy chains, that's also my preferred method of hanging 👌 a few handy storage pockets too 👌 the look in your face...it's soooooo comfy 😁😁😁🤣 cool storm mode too. I'm a big guy..bought the XL haven...overall pleased with it...but even having the XL ..I still find it quite narrow...I would love to see a XLW (Wide) version. I had issues with spreader poles due to being a big guy...one broke znd one bent....company was very supportive and replaced the poles quickly under Warranty. Very impressive! I would like to see the poles reinforced to accommodate more stress
    Overall thus hammock tent is impressive, well made of sturdy materials, & well engineered. I sleeped well once I Tweed the setup of the tent. I sleep on my sides and back. I even had a US Army sleeping bag in with my...in a 12" snowy camp i sleeped comfortable and warm. I would recommend this unit to anyone!

      Im having issues with middle sag.at the moment and the pad going down so not sure if it's faulty but need to test it. Never had an issue with the poles but I'm only about 200lb. Have you looked at carbon fibre ones? Lighter and possibly stronger?

    • @davidwalling3499
      @davidwalling3499 2 года назад +1

      @@NoviceWildCamper the problem with Haven spreader poles is where they slide together...that is where one broke the other bent. The shaft of the poles not effected...just the joiner sleeve inside the poles that is thin aluminum.

    • @davidwalling3499
      @davidwalling3499 2 года назад +1

      @@NoviceWildCamper the middle sag is normal in a hammock...Haven hammock has less of a sag then regular hammocks. The only other way they could eliminate that would to put 4 additional tension straps that go out each side each end of the bottom of hammock with supporting straps running underneath supporting the middle and sides creating an floor support joust like strap network. Then the bottom of the hammock would be truly flat...that would require 6 trees not just 2. Or very strong ground anchors for those side straps..like military grade u shape pickets driven into the ground 12" to 18* deep. Either way tents cost, weight, and practicality goes out the window.

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  2 года назад +1

      @@davidwalling3499 I've seen splmpmw do a review where they use two onewind straps tied together underneath to reduce the sag then they sewed straps to the underside too to hold them in place. A lot of faff though.

OK regard to weight, totally agree. I was surprise buy if you look at hammock camping in comparison to normal tents, most are hammockers don't seem to hike far and also tend to carry saws and Bushcraft gear so don't seem worried about weight. I won't be hiking far so it's perfect for me. Camped Wednesday and had the best sleep ever. 👍

    Awesome hammock! I hadn’t watched this video of yours yet but I’m glad I did. I’ve been avoid this hammock for the initial price but now that I’ve investigated things properly, it’s actually not that expensive as you said Mike, considering all that’s included. An ENO skyloft and comparable sleeping pad is going to cost around 300€ same as this whole kit.
    This is great for something like bicycle touring where comfort and versatility matters more than pack size. Weight isn’t bad at all tbh, but definetly not for the UL fanatics, and the pack size makes it unlikely to be used for backpacking honestly. I would guess this would appeal more to someone who would also use a trangia storm cooker than to a dehydrated meals type of person.
    As you said, the pad means you can use it on the ground if you need to go above treeline, or somewhere there aren’t trees (unlike with an underquilt setup).
    One major problem though is that it can’t be used as a chair for a long time, as opposed to a gathered end hammock, because you’ll get sore under your legs from the fabric that supports the flat shape.
    Definetly agree with the tarp being too small, I would prefer a longer and wider one, as porch mode is nice to have, and I suspect water would get in, or at least wet the hammock on the head and foot ends.

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  Год назад +2

      Cheers Pedro. It is a great set up but I've had some issues if you check my later videos. Resolved admittedly by Haven. You definitely need a bigger tarp though as if it rains you're confined to laying inside the whole time to keep dry. I use the onewind tarp which is excellent. And yes using as a chair cab be painful after a while as it cuts into your legs but I just put a jacket or something under my legs and this stops it 👍

    Mike a great review there pal👌all the points you covered at the start apply to me also except the bad back. The hammock looks a great improvement on banana shape style, however it's really not for me. If I were to use one it would be next to a parked up vehicle containing all my stuff. I was wondering about the tarp, and I might buy a bigger one. My Haven XL cost me $549AUD, which right now equates to £307, but I’m in Tasmania, Australia, about as far away from either yourself or the manufacturer as can be! We have a similar climate to the UK in Tassie though, so I think it’ll be perfect. Time,will tell though. I got it from an Australian retailer online and I’m very happy with their service!

    Hi Mike. As I stated earlier on you’re Facebook page, I did indeed watch this twice in a row and the reason…. Firstly I thought “WOW” and secondly… I had to watch again because I’d decided I wanted one after the first viewing because of all the reasons you hadn’t ventured into getting one in the past … and I have a few extra ones like only being to tie my shoe laces in my knots repertoire 🙄🤣 It’s deffo a game changer like the title suggests and Haven, who couldn’t have sent out this product to anyone more deserving should replace their promotional video on their website with this one because the clarity and information in this review is top drawer Mike… and well done and thanks for sharing. Thanks for the review. For me, these are just too heavy. I think they have so much potential though! If you manage to get your hands on one, I'd be curious as to how you would find a traditional 'flat lay' hammock working just from a diagonal lay. I am mostly a side sleeper and also shift quite a bit, but somehow manage in this style of hammock (Dream Hammock, Hennessey, Warbonnet, Dutchware etc). I have even found that 90% of the flat lay effect is from the length of the ridgeline, which you can add on to even a cheap hammock. Anyway, just food for thought.

    This video kinda makes me sad I forgot about the kickstarter that I obviously missed out on. At the time they were having some issues with leaking tarps, and typical new production issues.
    I think it would be nice if they offered each item separately. Like the tarp. I know the tarp with it, and pad etc.. make a sort of perfect kit, but I agree that I’d rather use a tarp I already have, and I would be way more likely to buy one if I didn’t have to pay for a second one.

    Anyone who lives somewhere with mosquitoes will not appreciate the fact that they didn't do double zippers on the mosquito net. There is only one zipper on either side of the nets so you have to open it all the way up. I spent the first night in mine last night, and I had to grab something off the ground underneath my hammock. I had to open half the bug screen up just to get to what I needed and I let in about 30 mosquitoes in the meantime. On any of my Hennessy style hammocks, they are double zippered which allows you to unzip a small portion to reach out and get anything off the ground or outside the hammock. Serious failure right off to get go. It seems like their only concern was the ability to remove the bug screen. Also, with a bit of movement flipping back and forth from your stomach or side, the bug screen zipper will start to work its way down opening a gap. Gnats, no-see ums, and mosquitoes became a problem from that as well. There is a good chance that my brand new hammock will be sold shortly. I waited a long time to buy one of these, very disappointing.

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  2 года назад +2

      That's a shame. I agree about the zippers though. Haven't found it the best in my usage so far. Also gets very tight to do up sometimes and comes adrift. We get mozzies here too when the weather is right for them and midges which are a nightmare.

    Fwiw mate, a “banana” shaped hammock is a myth and wholly depends on how you actually lie in one: and we’re referring to “gathered end” style hammocks.
    For a flat lay in a gathered end hammock it would need to be long and wide enough for you to lie on a diagonal.
    If it’s too short or too narrow you would be unable to lie diagonally, thusly forcing you into the banana position.
    Just an fyi.

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  2 года назад +1

      I know, but you can't lay diagonal, then turn on your side, then your front etc. I toss and turn all night so would never work in any standard hammock from all the videos and reviews I've seen. @@NoviceWildCamper It's true, we can't always have it all. By the way, I'm about to get into the hammock thing too but, are hammocks naturally used with air mattresses or you just included it 'cos you can? I remember in movies, hammocks are use just like that, people would hop into them without even cloths on, opps! I'm kidding, I mean, without mattresses. How are they used normally?

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  2 года назад +1

      Virtually no hammocks are.designed for an air mattress but the Haven and the Amok are. Its there for wonter protection, comfort and rigidity of a flay kay hammock. They both come with pads and are designed to be used with pads. If you winter hammock camp then you will need insulation under you as your sleeping bag down will be flattened providing no insulation from the cold. Most hammockers use under quilts then a sleeping bag or another quilt on top. An under quilt can cost anything from £100 to £300 plus depending on the quality and temp levels. If you only summer camp then yes, just hop in a standard hammock and you'll be fine however you won't get a flat lay, can't lay on your side or front where you can with the Haven and Amok. Plus you habe tons of space inside these to put your gear rather than leave it on the floor to get nibbled on by mice or god knows what amd you aren't pinched at the head and foot end like a normal hammock. Hence, gamechanger 👍
