  • Jason and Kenna live full time on their sailboat which is a Cheoy Lee offshore 41, and they give me a tour around this amazing boat. Jason has been sailing for years and has outfitted sailboats for off shore sailing from BC Canada to Hawaii, and Mexico, but this is what he calls his forever boat. Kenna grew up in the Canadian prairies and never sailed until she met Jason in Victoria BC. Their goal with this boat is to up fit it and restore it to be able to sail it to Mexico and beyond (they actually did and are there currently, this tour was filmed a few months ago) This boat is fully equipped with solar for electricity, a full galley (kitchen), a head (bathroom) and multiple cabins for sleeping as well as a large living space with rounded seating for hanging out. I really loved making this video and they inspired me personally a lot to think about getting a sailboat for my next alternative dwelling. If you enjoyed this video please share it with a friend, and subscribe as we post new documentaries every week.

    Alternative dwellings are great when it's your choice to choose to live that way, but do you ever wonder why less of us are able to buy a traditional home?
    The answer simply is currency debasement. The answer more deeply is answered in my new podcast

      @@user-hd2to7lv8y Hi there! Thanks for the comment and the interest in our personal life! We met the old fashioned way, in person and through mutual friends! My best friend is dating Jays best friend and we all met to go rafting down Cowichan River in BC with a small group of other people and well, it was love at first sight sort-of deal ☺ We hit it off immediately and ended up staying up until 4am just talking around a campfire and now here we are! It was a connection I've never felt before, almost like our souls already knew eachother... We love our story, just very real life and genuine! Shortly after that, he invited me to go sailing to Desolation Sound for 10 days and I fell completely inlove with all this minimalistic lifestyle had to offer. I moved onto Sitka nearly right away and never looked back. Skip to a year and a half later, we have now sailed from Victoria BC Canada to La Paz Mexico together! Life is so wonderfully crazy, you have no idea where it'll take you, you just have to say yes and take the chance!

      Love your boat!!!!! What's the max length you think is ok to solo sail? I have an opportunity to get a 50 over a 30 but it will mostly be me alone. Is that doable?

    • @sailingsitka
      @sailingsitka 5 месяцев назад

      @@philCTO we know multiple solo sailors with 48+ footers! As long as it’s designed in a way that is suitable for a solid sailor, I dont see why not 😊 Anything is possible! But of course a bigger boat comes with bigger bills and I think that’s we stay with our 41’ 😂 Thank you for commenting! Hope it all work out for you⛵️🤙🏻

    I know absolutely nothing about sailing however my dream home was going to be on the beach. Living in Destin Florida. With a crappie draw of life at 28 years old I will most likely not live to be old enough to save and buy what I wanted to do so as of last month I am pushing as hard as I can to learn how to sail and going to put my life savings into a sailboat and I know it won't be this nice but me and the love of my life are doing everything we can to make the dream come true. Thank you so much for the inspiration.

      Don't be so pessimistic my friend, I'm literally in the same position doing the same thing. I went from motorhomes to houseboats and I'm now stuck totally on a 40 ft yacht. It's going to happen in the next few months. Do I know how to sail, sort of, do I have a boat license, nope! Don't care, I'm doing it, it's happening, I spoke with all of my executives (me, myself and I) and they all signed off on it. 😂 I've already done a lot of research across the board and 40 ft suites me, I'll clearly learn along the way, but it's the right way. Just chase it man.

    • @Brads-strung-out
      @Brads-strung-out Год назад

      I'm seeing yachts for like $10,000Aud where I am. My buy in will be around 50k, but that will come with less drama than a way cheaper yacht but outfitting it myself. Rent where I am is around 25k per year. A nice class mooring is around 8k pa. A motorhome the same size as a yacht is near three decent yachts. Yes there's plenty of upkeep and running costs, but so do homes. Some things can be expensive, yeah, so is a mortgage. Seems to be quite a challenging lifestyle too, right up my alley.

    I sailed with a friend in the Caribbean for a few years then we went to South Hampton in the south coast of England in 1975 and bought a Choey Lee Rhoads Reliance 42, Yawl and sailed her back to the Caribbean . She was fiberglass , not old enough to be all teak haaha. She was a Lloyds +100 A1 rating . You have a world class yacht, enjoy every day and every year. Happy sails to you both.

    What a beautiful sentence, " We sailed down to the Caribbean during the Winter." I wonder if there's still an opportunity for a 55 year old man to do something like this. And my twenties I wanted to be a marine biologist and study Caribbean reefs somehow I got sidetracked terribly and lost myself for myself for more than 30 some yeand now that I'm 55 and not getting younger or healthier I'm starting to take a hard look at my life ending And wanting to do A few extraordinary things that I've always wanted to do such as learning how to sail an experiencing that Entire experience. I've been living in my short top Van for 2 years now and I'm starting to consider raising the roof with wood and Maybe real roof shingles , try to work as much as I can for 9 months or a year to sat least $30000. Anyhow I'm glad your video was made or posted 4 days ago so this is current? I'm going to follow you guys.

      Of course you can, anyone can do it.

      @sailingsitka Год назад +3

      Absolutely! Your mind is your only limitation in life! You can do anything with enough hard work and passion. Sailing is an exceptional way to escape the crazy and busyness of life at times, I hope you follow through and learn. It makes you feel so alive to smell that salty air. In the meantime, your van adventures sound incredible. I wish you all the love and that hopefully your dreams do come true!

      Man at 55 you're not old. Wait until you get older,and look back at 55. You will say WOW! I can't believe how young I looked. Don't go by numbers,it's just mathematics..Go by what you feel, and how you feel. I've seen many in the late 70s early 80s sailing, boating.
      FOLLOW YOUR HEART, AND LET YOUR BRAIN GUIDE IT.
      MY ISSUE WAS I COULD NEVER TELL MY BRAIN WHAT TO DO, IT AWAYS TOLD ME. SAILING IS ALSO A WAY OF LIFE, NOT JUST SOMETHING TO DO. SOME GROW INTO IT, OTHERS IT'S IN THEIR DNA. OUR ORIGINS OF LIFE IS FROM THE WATER.

    Sailboat terms are confusing, typically a two masted boat is referred to as a ketch. But after you called your boat a yawl I looked it up. A yawl has the mizzen mast behind the rudder post, a ketch has the mizzen mast forward of the rudder post. Details details! Nice boat, great adventure, have fun!!

    Beautiful boat. Cheoy Lees are amazing.
    Not to be a nitpicker, but I think it is a Ketch because the mizzen mast is forward of the helm.

    • @sailingsitka
      @sailingsitka Год назад +2

      Thank you very much! Yes we know, it’s technically a Ketch. According to Cheoylee this is the offshore 41 Yawl. The offshore 41 Ketch; the mizzen mast is a metre forward of where is it on our boat. If you want to be technical, the position of the mast in relation to the wheel has no baring, it’s the position of the rudder post which in this case would still make it a Ketch but like mentioned before, this is the Yawl model.

    • @petec9686
      @petec9686 Год назад +2

      @@sailingsitka yep, mizzen/rudder post relation does determine it. I guess you could say that your boat is yawlish, while the "ketch" is more definitely a ketch.

    Yes you could literally die tomorrow without having any health issues. I know the experience.we were sailors of forty years, my wife who died in my arms from a massive brain aneurysm. She was 59 picture perfection of health, she was going to retire at 60. She was making our plans to sail the world. You guys should have a sailing channel, do you have one?
    You may already know, do not keep cardboard food boxes,or paper can rappers down South. Cockroaches will lay eggs in them, plus they retain moisture and will mold quicker. The big issue with cheoy Lee sailboats could be their fuel and water tanks, being steel ,and not stainless steel. They have rust issues in the saltwater environment. Good luck you guys ,I say you have a very knowledgeable, and thorough captain. I can see why you have fallen for him. From a Quebecer who has sailed the west coast for years.

      Hi there, it’s nice to hear from you. My condolences to your wifes passing, an event as such would shatter anyones world.
      Great suggestions from one sailor to the next! Our water tank and our fuel tank are actually made out of fibreglass and we’ve replaced everything that was metal on the boat as we know that Cheoylee used inferior metals.
      We absolutely do have a RUclips channel! It’s called Sailing Sitka. We post real life videos of our journey for anyone who is interested.

    ## You are way too young to have your 'forever boat' . After 7 yrs you will be ready to upgrade, maybe 10 yrs. After you get tired of continuous maintenance and you see newer boats with modern day conveniences, you will then be ready to sit back & enjoy your trips & passengers without the worry of being stranded. And then you will realize that you've earned it.
