  • 5 Rare films with some cool dance moves from the 1920s - the Black Bottom, Waltz, Salsa, Charleston and Foxtrot - popular dance styles in the Jazz Age. The roaring twenties! The age of the flapper!
    The Black Bottom - became popular in the 1920s, which could be danced solo or as a couple, or, as in this case, in a group.
    Waltz - The waltz actually goes back to around 1770, but enjoyed a renewed period of popularity in the 1920's.
    Salsa - The salsa originated in New York but has clear influences from Latin America, incorporating dance styles from Cuba, Colombia and Puerto Rico.
    The Charleston is named after Charleston, South Carolina. The rhythm craze was started by a broadway show tune called The Charleston.
    The Foxtrot - you'll note the smoothness of this dance. Usually danced to big band music. It is similar to the waltz, except in a 4
    4 time signature. Originated in the 1910s, but was most popular in the 1930s.

      They are good dance moves, but those being better than dance moves now is just an opinion. Dance moves now have more bops and movement then before, and that's facts.

    The Charleston clip is actually from 1960 and features the incredible Al Minns and Leon James, but they're demonstrating a style of Charleston moves that evolved with swing music, moreso in the '30s onward than in the '20s. You won't regret looking up more videos of these guys.

    The videos may be from the 20s, but the Waltz has been around since the 1500s, and the Tango since the 1880s. The Foxtrot was originated in the 1910s, and didn't reach its peak until the 30s. Only the Black Bottom and the Charleston could actually be considered "from the 1920s".

      It's not even from our time, hilariously, though! Apparently it's centuries old and comes from a dance from cote d'Ivoire, but has seen small moments of popularity abroad. There was an animal dance from the 1910s which used it, for instance :D

    Much appreciated, especially Black bottom, slow Waltz, Foxtrot, and a late 20's version of the early 1920's Charleston. Just two comments. You should have included the currently popular Lindyhop which evolved in 1928 . And, that wasn't Tango, or more properly Argentine Tango, as danced in the 20's, and certainly not traditional tango music.

      NOPE! You can do the same moves to 1950s Music! I LIKE TO HEAR ORIGANAL 1920s Music in My videos, that are supposed to be about THE 1920s!! And You Tube has a Million samples of this Music posted! I will not stop anyone from using this music in this video, BUT IT`S WRONG IN EVERY RESPECT! It just does not have that 1920 Flavor!

    • @roybo1930
      @roybo1930 7 лет назад

      Columbia, OKeh, Brunswick Victor, His Masters Voice, All have very Clear and AWESOME Sounding recordings! Look up My Playlist! Some were very Clear and crisp, Some were played so much that they have a rough sound! But there is TON`S Of 1920s Music that is on You Tube, That will make this video better! As far as recording being in it`s infancy, NOT REALLY! By 1925 Columbia was producing records that sounded like the band was playing next to You! Recording was in it`s Teen age Years! With some Great sounding Records, to Records that sounded quite awful recording wise! Look Up "Give Me A Heart To Sing To" by Will Osborne / on Prozoot `s channel! The Music in this video sounds silly! and does not sound anything like 1920s music! Also look up "Oh! Doctor" by Louis Panico`s Orchestra! on Phonomono78s Channel! Pick through the records listed beside this video showing the record labels By MusicProf78`s channel!
