- 5 Rare films with some cool dance moves from the 1920s - the Black Bottom, Waltz, Salsa, Charleston and Foxtrot - popular dance styles in the Jazz Age. The roaring twenties! The age of the flapper!
The Black Bottom - became popular in the 1920s, which could be danced solo or as a couple, or, as in this case, in a group.
Waltz - The waltz actually goes back to around 1770, but enjoyed a renewed period of popularity in the 1920's.
Salsa - The salsa originated in New York but has clear influences from Latin America, incorporating dance styles from Cuba, Colombia and Puerto Rico.
The Charleston is named after Charleston, South Carolina. The rhythm craze was started by a broadway show tune called The Charleston.
The Foxtrot - you'll note the smoothness of this dance. Usually danced to big band music. It is similar to the waltz, except in a 4
4 time signature. Originated in the 1910s, but was most popular in the 1930s.

my grandmother taught me all those dances. she was a teen in the 20's!
omg! that is super cool! wanna re-live it again! how is she?
Oh so she was a flapper thats amazing!
Super Dope,god bless your Grandma.
@@kaiyzott she would be over 100 when you posted that
Better than any modern dance moves, that's for sure.
ShaneD3488 stfu
ShaneD3488 yep
They are good dance moves, but those being better than dance moves now is just an opinion. Dance moves now have more bops and movement then before, and that's facts.
Absolutely true.
ShaneD3488 ok boomer
The black bottom and the Charleston i totally got to learn them, such smooth and interesting movement in the routine.
Charleston dancers had such swag-!!! 👍😎
No...Class
That's Al Minns and Leon James! They were professional performers from the 1930s onward. Definitely check out more of their videos.
The Charleston clip is actually from 1960 and features the incredible Al Minns and Leon James, but they're demonstrating a style of Charleston moves that evolved with swing music, moreso in the '30s onward than in the '20s. You won't regret looking up more videos of these guys.
The first song is jumpin'!!!!!!! ❤️
The Black Bottom and Charleston👍👍
lol in the future our kids are gonna search cool dance moves from the 2000's...
Or we will just recycle all the old moves because it'll be the 20's again in what.. three and a half years?
Jona Villo there is no cool dance move from the 2000'
Agreed
Bold of you to assume we have any good dances
@@parallax-821 2020 now, who new it was gonna be like it is 😷
Researching in preparation for 2020 😂
I love the black bottom
The videos may be from the 20s, but the Waltz has been around since the 1500s, and the Tango since the 1880s. The Foxtrot was originated in the 1910s, and didn't reach its peak until the 30s. Only the Black Bottom and the Charleston could actually be considered "from the 1920s".
KORNY!!!!
Remember when this genre was in full swing? Let's bring it back
We busting out the Charleston as soon as the calender hits 2020 😤😤
@@localshithead7430 lol. Rip.
Meanwhile twerking is our number one dance move
It's not even from our time, hilariously, though! Apparently it's centuries old and comes from a dance from cote d'Ivoire, but has seen small moments of popularity abroad. There was an animal dance from the 1910s which used it, for instance :D
@@chrskrpp5506 it came from africa
•u•
*vomits silently*
+ chrskrpp Yeah but it still sucks.
Now its twerking
The 20s look fun as hell!
those Charleston high kicks get me! i love it!!
Imagine these dance moves to Ms Jackson by P!ATD
Grace and style 🎶
Unlike today😲
I have seen my parents dance these in the living room. It was great. :)
I love this channel. Keep up the great content.
I know you probably don't care, but I believe the opening sequence you label as Black Bottom is really the Good News. I know that I've seen this same clip labeled as such before. The other dances are correctly labeled.
WONDERFUL, AND VERY WELL EXPLAINED THANK YOU
That was the cat's pajama's.
THIS LOOKS SO FUN
Thanks!
Thanks.
Most say that salsa of son cubano version, with slow quick quick, started I in Cuba in 1880s, and casino. version started there in 1950s, with ts quick quick slow basic step rhythm.
Great collection of film clips!

Great examples! What is the name and artist of the first song? Others have said "Shake That Thing" but I would like the version in your video, please. Much appreciate!
What is the song of the charleston in this clip?
Much appreciated, especially Black bottom, slow Waltz, Foxtrot, and a late 20's version of the early 1920's Charleston. Just two comments. You should have included the currently popular Lindyhop which evolved in 1928 . And, that wasn't Tango, or more properly Argentine Tango, as danced in the 20's, and certainly not traditional tango music.
Someone please do these to nowadays music
Can somebody tell me the name of te song in the charleston vid???
the modern charleston is now the money dance look it up
What's the name of the song of the first one please?
Whats the name of the song playing over the charleston dancing
They would be over 100 years if they were still alive..

i only liked the video because of the charleston dance
What’s the name of the music for the black bottom?

Is the speed increased or they really danced that fast?
The waltz came in 1800’s

Crazy how these are in Fortnite probably
Music is NOT The 1920s!!! Great Dance Moves though! There were several bands from the 1950s to 1970s that tried to play 20s Music and wound up sounding Corny and Mousy!
roybo1930 It can in some cases hard to find good recordings of 1920's music because recording technology was in its still kinda in its infancy.
roybo1930 Correct me if I am wrong.
roybo1930 It says 1920's dance moves, so I guess they could use that music....
NOPE! You can do the same moves to 1950s Music! I LIKE TO HEAR ORIGANAL 1920s Music in My videos, that are supposed to be about THE 1920s!! And You Tube has a Million samples of this Music posted! I will not stop anyone from using this music in this video, BUT IT`S WRONG IN EVERY RESPECT! It just does not have that 1920 Flavor!
Columbia, OKeh, Brunswick Victor, His Masters Voice, All have very Clear and AWESOME Sounding recordings! Look up My Playlist! Some were very Clear and crisp, Some were played so much that they have a rough sound! But there is TON`S Of 1920s Music that is on You Tube, That will make this video better! As far as recording being in it`s infancy, NOT REALLY! By 1925 Columbia was producing records that sounded like the band was playing next to You! Recording was in it`s Teen age Years! With some Great sounding Records, to Records that sounded quite awful recording wise! Look Up "Give Me A Heart To Sing To" by Will Osborne / on Prozoot `s channel! The Music in this video sounds silly! and does not sound anything like 1920s music! Also look up "Oh! Doctor" by Louis Panico`s Orchestra! on Phonomono78s Channel! Pick through the records listed beside this video showing the record labels By MusicProf78`s channel!
Wow if these didn't have the woman doing a huge majority of the work
it is just me or does anyone else hear kazoos?
Back in real America when most people had $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I’m afraid that the music for the tango wasn’t a tango... it was a habanera. Yes, tango was influenced by the habanera, but that tune is missing the tango cadence...
I can't dance
I remember doze yeers dancin waltz w my first love in the yeer 1925 hihihi... ( chocking sounds ) uuuuhhhhnggg! hea...rt...atta..ck
That's not funny dude :/
Trevor Philips too bad it is funny
And the best part is there was no, "Ok, Boomer, " back then.
ee
The dancing is fine, but who the hell uses the word cool
I stopped watching this factually incorrect video at the first example. The waltz was not from the 1920's. It dates back to the 13th century in Germany and Austria. 🙄
Poo
Dropped waist hid that sugar and fat well yet was soooo blah
horrible video- doesnt even use the correct music for each!
