This is AMAZING. Never in a million years would I have considered making a thumbnail in FCPX like this. But more important, this gave me a new appreciation for what I can do in my videos. Thank-you 🙏🙏🙏
Dudeeee I have been using Canva for over a year to make thumbnails and have been struggling to take them to the next level. I have been editing my videos with FCPX this whole time and had no idea you can make thumbnails... and not only thumbnails but really well edited and bloody amazing ones!! So glad I found your channel brother! Thank you so much for this one and for making such high quality content for us fellow creators 🙏🏼
Very clever. I've seen this before as a tip, but you took it so much further than anyone else I've seen. This is why I watch your videos consistently. You teach the same stuff, but you make it practical. More than a How To, you show a Why. Nicely done.
Thanks for the well thought out CC, Lucas. It's really hard for me to do something and NOT explain why I'm doing it. It could be because I was an ESL teacher for a couple years. Thanks for the kind words 🙏🏼
Yep, before I had Ps I used this FCP method - honestly still use FCP - it's faster for me since I'm used to the software - i'm so green with Ps - it's going to be a while before I used Ps 100% of the time.
I am new to your channel but I am always happy to watch your content. Such a great teacher and while you introduce us to each technique, you make sure that you are not talking so fast or moving from one point to another before your audience get the opportunity to wrap their heads around the subject under discussion. Than you so much Dylan. ♥️♥️♥️
Hey Hatim! That means a lot, brotha 🙏 I actually have worked on my pace and flow a lot since starting the channel a couple years ago. My earlier videos were WAY too fast, but I think I've started to find a nice flow. It's still too fast for some people, but you can't win them all. Thanks for the kinds words and enjoy your weekend ✌
Thanks brotha! Of course 👌 I was actually thinking about how I could add a stroke and then I remembered all the tools in your plugin and sure enough, it was there. So useful 👊
Originally the video was going to be titles 'How I made this youtube thumbnail in Final Cut Pro' but I figured people would get upset that the first thing I said was 'I didn't make this thumbnail in FCP' lol. So I changed it. Thanks for the kind words! Enjoy your weekend as well 🤙🏼
@@dylanjohndickerson Got it, thanks. Any particular reason you use the LC vs the Cine? Just personal preference? I’m trying to find the most natural conversion LUT for my FX3.
@@Jonathan_Kirsch No particular reason! I actually switch it up all the time. Whatever conversion LUT I think will help me get to my desired stylized look easier.
I have an issue when masking where if I make a curved line the next one becomes curved as well and sometimes you need it to revert back to straight, how do you do that, in photoshop with the pen tool you can switch back from a curved line by holding option, that little detail was so helpful to me but now I feel lost again in Final Cut Pro when masking
really cool thumbnail .. and with the cooler things FCPX can do, i will definitely try to make my thumbnails in it. Another thing i learnt .. in the colour tab i was searching fr the sharpness slider but wondering why its not there .. so how will i adjust sharpness in fcpx 🤔…. now o know there is a separate sharpness effect which u hv to add frm the effects menu 😄😄.
😂 Maybe give it a try first before you do that. It is free, which is nice, but I think in Canva you can cut out things pretty quickly, right? Those control points in FCP definitely take some time.
@@dylanjohndickerson Canva is pretty straight forward, I use it for a month now and so far so good! Is good when I need to quickly design different size thumbnail, cos I post in different platform as well! So many work for thumbnails😮💨😮💨😮💨
I don't, but one day that'd be cool! I make about $400-$600 a month, including affiliate links and stuff. Not enough to cover living expenses, unfortunately. This month has been a bit more though because of my past few videos 👌

Great job showing how multiple programs can achieve the same result. Also, where did you get the SLog3 conversion LUT you use at 1:01?
Thanks so much! I think I got it off of the Sony website. It should be free!
