  • Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz will be sentenced to life without parole for the 2018 murder of 17 people at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, after the jury said Thursday that it could not unanimously agree that he should be executed.
The jury’s recommendation came after seven hours of deliberations over two days, ending a three-month trial that included graphic videos, photos and testimony from the massacre and its aftermath, heart-wrenching testimony from victims’ family members and a tour of the still blood-spattered building.
Under Florida law, a death sentence requires a unanimous vote on at least one count. Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer will formally issue the life sentences Nov. 1.

To certain extent, I understand they didn't want to see this young man killed. Who wants to see the death of anyone?
However, those mass shootings won't stop if the people keep showing compassion for the responsible of massacring innocents.
It must be zero tolerance to mass shooters.

There has to be severe consequences for his actions and life alive in a protected prison eating 3 plus meals a day, receiving education, playing video games, never having to work to pay bills, never having to worry about a roof over his head is not a severe consequence.

ONE HUNDRED THIRTY NINE TIMES!! and only left because “there was no one left to kill” his own words included “no mercy” he “enjoys seeing the families suffer” what in Gods name is going on down in that state? I agree with you that the justice system is failing people that have lost their family members in these shootings but the police are stuck having to follow protocol and have to do things by the book or they will be treated like they committed a crime just for doing their jobs because if they would of shot the kid and killed him the parents would of sued the department for killing their son And you and I both know that because no disrespect their are to many people out there just trying to get cops fired for doing their jobs but I believe it doesn't matter how old you are if you run your mouth and try fighting with a cop just to try and be cool well when they slam you to the ground even if your head hits the ground to bad if people want all these shootings and gang related crime's robbery's and drug related crime's to end then our military should be brought into every state and they should go house to house Town to town from the noth coast to The south coast east coast to the west coast and clean up The entire country and it doesn't matter if people think it an invasion of their privacy if you have nothing to hide or are not a felon that isn't allowed to own fire arms and think selling drugs is your job or making meth cocaine or other drugs even though pot is legal they should be searching every house too to bottom and if they destroy everything in every home searching and don't find anything to bad buy new stuff and if they find something and you have children well both parents should be locked up and tested for drugs and questioned why they found it and why it is in their house and that the parents are stupid to think they need drugs to get through life you have children that are way more important than drugs and if people are to stupid to see that then clearly there is something wrong with them and they need to spend a whole year in jail no matter what but felons that have things their not supposed to have should be sent back to prison for the rest of their sentences and have additional time and charges added after they served the Time they owe

society deciding punishment for cruz that killed peoples children, not right in my eyes, makes since though we are not god or the higher power that decides that, but the bible does say you will follow the laws of the land. so ultimately people decide his fate, is not right in my eyes... if my child was killed I would have gone a different route,

I'd have bet all my money on the death penalty. This outcome is a major step forward ! Out of medieval times forward into the third millenium. The USA still has the abillity to change for the better and to adjust to new times. Welcome to the new world, well done. This is justice, not simple revenge.

You actually need help. You don’t understand justice at all. You have no good reason for this sub human to live. You have no emotions to losing a loved one in such a horrific way. You should be checked.
If new times = mass shootings with zero consequences, I won’t none of it.

I'm glad the death sentence was not imposed. This helps set a precedent against a old and barbaric practice. And I don't care what your points of view are, I'm not even going to read them, so don't even waste your time. Giving your government the authority to execute its own citizens is a bad idea. Sending the message that killing can be justified by killing is insane. And killing to satisfy your own grief is immoral. Killing is only appropriate in terms of self defense. An eye for an eye is a horrible message. Preserving life in the midst of so much loss of it is a far better message.

The juri has to be unbiased and cannot judge according to their beliefs but follow the law. A member of the juri that cannot be unbiased should have been excluded. This trial wasn’t about the law whether the death penalty should exist or not. It’s about the victims of these terrible shooting.

@@felipecarvalho499 I feel no simpathy for this monster, make no mistake. I just think that even a monster’s life is valuable. The FBI learned a lot in the 80’s from serial killers who weren’t sentenced to death. Apparently, a Sandy Hook mother finds solace in visiting this monster and understanding what drove her baby’s killer. He is valuable for a whole lot of reasons. Preventing future school shootings is just one of them….and I’m a mom. I know that I wouldn’t want the grief plus a human life on my conscience. But maybe it’s a cultural thing, I don’t know…..❤️

@@felipecarvalho499 but the law is ultimately about precedent. What I'm saying is that hopefully a new one was just set. And they did follow the law, the mitigating circumstances simply outweighed the aggrivating ones. Which is how it should be. Violence does not happen in a vacuum.

The main issue i have with the death penalty argument, is that it does not even try to aspire to anything higher or more noble. It appeals to the most base of our emotions and reasoning. The death penalty will never be the mark of a truly civilized society. Do not feel bad for a second Raquel, you are on the right side of history.
