I watched the male actors' round table, waiting for them to bring up sexual harassment and pay inequality. I watched the directors' round table, waiting for them to ask about harassment and inequality. It never happened. Right from the start, the women are asked about these issues. These are not women's problems. They're industry issues. They're institutional failings. They're human problems. Why is The Hollywood Reporter only addressing gender issues with the actresses? Shame on you. I am grateful for these women sharing their experiences and opinions, but it's not their job to address these wrongs alone. Ask these questions to the leading men, directors, producers and studio heads.
I guess you didn't watch the actors' roundtable, then... They WERE asked about this, hell they even cut that part only and made it a shorter video before they released the full roundtable... Also, "pay inequality", funny...
well, that might be because they agreed to speak out about that subject primarily, then because the audience is more interested in the female point of view on this subject rather than the male opinion. Or they, the actresses themselves, requested it. However, I think is cute for you saying that men should speak and give more their opinion on this subject.
Shadooow 23 it’s also mainly men who commit these crimes... also they’re ALL part of the industry so they should all talk about it. Also, we want to hear about these actresses careers and thoughts on their movies as well not just about this stuff or family or whatever.
I read the different comments and I find myself waiting to also hear a certain topic confronted. I have feelings by this being the first and foremost question posed to this panel reduces them down to that being what they are good for instead of their amazing talent, skill and profession wealth of knowledge. At what point do we direct a specific topic to singular sex. I don’t argue that sexual harassment isn’t proportionally directed to women over men (of course men are affected and on the receiving end), but this gives me the same feeling as actress being asked on a red carpet what they are wearing or their relationship status vs a actor getting asked about a project or their role that they are there to celebrate. These are conversations and topics that need to be aggressively confronted and discussed, but I wonder why these comments are only first stated on this video apposed to being buried deep deep down on the male round tables. Is it reverse sexism, is this what feminism is, is only one panel supposed to discuss it, is the commentary only posted to the question list that is imposed by the host?...etc...etc.
Jessica Chastain immediately noticed(7:22sec) that the host asked everyone about their views on sexual harassment except for Mary J.Blige and then she herself asked Mary about her views.Hats off to Jessica Chastain!
Jessica Chastain is one of the only women in Hollywood who claims to be a feminist and actually advocates for all women and not just the ones that look like her. Kuddos to her
darshan garrewall Well that is simply not true no body was skipped over yeah she was last which is kinda weird but Jessica just cut in before he had the chance to ask her a question if you truly believe she was skipped it is simply cognitive bias
HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY THIS. GET RID OF THE INTERVIEWER AND JUST LET THE ACTRESSES SPEAK WITH EACH OTHER ON THEIR OWN TERMS. Maybe give them a set of questions to give them guidance or whatever but otherwise...🙄
Yes! I Was So Angry With The Host He Pointedly Directed His Question At Each One Of Them But Not Mary? Yes, I Think Even Jessica Felt Uncomfortable (Like Me) Noticed It And Directly Asked For Her Opinion To Her. So Yep! Really Appreciate It.
Thank you Jessica Chastain for including Mary J as part of this conversation you did that, that was polite, sweet and very professional. That guy needs to learn!!
@Thisis Fun As he went around the table asking every actress questions he skipped Mary J. It took him 22 minutes to come back to her. Seriously dude "stop making assertions that are" just asinine af.
I don’t think his (seemingly) lack of recognition of MJB’s presence at the table was intentional. I think she is just quieter and more reserved than the other ladies in this situation, thus said, she didn’t interject as often as the others did because they felt more comfortable than she did. It seemed as though, at times throughout this interview, it was hard for any 1 person to get a word in because most of them are very confident and had a lot more to say, or should I say, they felt more compelled and comfortable expressing their opinions and sharing their stories. I got the impression she felt a little intimidated, not due to race, but because all the other woman have a lot more acting experience than she does. This is not to say that she has less talent but less acting‘notches in her belt’ than her peers at that table. This is not a derogatory opinion against MJB - she is hugely successful within the entertainment industry in general, particularly since she can not only act but she is an incredibly talented performer as well, something the rest of the ladies at this table cannot claim.
Mary J Blige has been acting since 1998 and has done plays and guest starring roles. So ignoring her was completely ridiculous. Jessica Chastain should've moderated this. This is just the role that has placed Mary J in a better spotlight but she's been an actress for some time now and has a valid voice. Lets not forget that Mary J Blige was originally supposed to play Nina Simone but had to drop due to financial reasons and the role went to Zoe Saldana. Don't short change her. New moderator for sure.
How was she being ignored or excluded in the dialogue between the actresses and the moderator who facilitates the conversation between all them. She made some very awesome points on all topics and was able to share plenty during the interview, if one were to think about how some of the other 6 people at the table were not sharing as much then you'd see that she wasn't being singled out. Maybe she didn't relate to and want to share as much cuz she was around only white people and was led by a male moderator. I feel that should change but she wasn't intentionally being left out of the conversation by everyone else. Like is a classroom, if you want to share you have to speak up in the conversation
@@tian_obia but it's not a classroom. It's moderated. It's up to that person to direct the questions. For a nice chunk of this interview he directed them all to every actress but her until Jessica Chastain invited her into the conversation which she shouldn't have to, that's the moderators job. We wouldn't know if she wanted to answer or not, as he wasn't directing anything towards her for a minute.
@@BlackGirlMarvel Thats true but some of the discussion is voluntarily based like you would in a classroom raising your hand while the teacher facilitates the discussion. I mean I agree that it was weird that she was the last one to speak only because Jessica decided to ask her about that topic. But a lot of the talk was an open discussion that the actresses could chime in on and even ask each other questions. In my opinion he isn't a great moderator and maybe should've had a women but he wasn't being a racist or trying to single people out like so many have accused him of doing
@@tian_obia I never stated he was a racist just that he wasn't great at what he does. Watching it, to me, he didn't pay her any mind. Through all these I watch, including this, they ask the actors questions. Or they'll ask a question and then call an actress out. He pretty much called out everyone to answer a question he asked but Mary J Blige. It wasn't until Jessica asked for her point of view that he started to include her in the conversation.
@@BlackGirlMarvel No true I know you didn't call him a racist or think that but some other people do and am curious why people think that he singled her out when its a white male moderator who didn't engage with her until later in the interview. I agree that he should've been better in general or that they should've just brought in a good female interviewer but he certainly wouldn't have gone throughout the whole interview without asking her questions or having her engage in the discussion. Alls I'm saying is that some of the issue was him not giving her a chance to speak until later in the interview (poor job on him) but some of it was on Mary and any of the actresses to engage with each other in a voluntary discussion.
You sound really transphobic, homophobic and ablist - you made no mention of trans people, homosexuals or differently-abled people. For the love of God.
That was sickening, for real... Why would you ask questions you don't feel concerned about it... You don't have to be a woman, just be a human for god damn sake
They not only gave him that look, then he was incorrect AGAIN by calling it a 19th century movie and Saoirse had to correct him again by saying 20th century. Jeez.
Jessica: "It's an industry that has normalized pay gaps" Interviewer: Huh. *moves on* And that's just it. The difference is so CLEAR when it is a male interviewer vs. a female interviewer. Or more to the point, an interviewer who OBVIOUSLY cares about women's issues! The conversations are more lively and free-flowing when it's a female interviewer. Because they're talking about these difficult (but necessary) topics, but this man is approaching this like it's a class and it's mandatory recitation time. There's no rapport, no easiness, which is his job!
@Lauren Cummings Yes, but JLaw brings box office receipts..nobody gives a f about the host. It's an industry about sales....like any OTHER business. Eye roll.
Actors/Actresses probably get as much as their movies can make, there is pay gap also in some sports like basketball, football because more people watch men sports. Pay gap is not always unjustifiable.
I think it's really shameful that Mary J. Blige was not invited into the conversation until 7 minutes into this video, and that it wasn't even by the moderator, especially considering that she is one of the only women at the table who has admitted she was abused, she has more to add to this conversation than even the rest do. It's also shameful that she's the only woman of color in this round table, we are at a point where lack of diversity cannot be overlooked. This is a great conversation to have, but you should pick your moderators more consciously and choose your subjects more wisely.
RUclips User oh wow. the white privilege JUMPED out. i really hope you get ~educated~ soon. it’s got to be exhausting existing in the world so ignorant.
She’s done that before in the interview with Stephen Galloway. He kept interrupting everyone to get his questions in, and she made point to tell a story about a time where ‘she’ needed to sit back and listen, and stop interrupting. She’s awesome!!
I feel like the host could have eased into the conversation about sexual abuse. Ask about their roles and ACTING first, and then steer the conversation into that. Women are always expected to speak for all women's issues when the people who should be put under pressure is MEN. Why ask them if things are gonna change? The one's who have to change are men who benefit from this system, even if they are not perpetrators themselves. Humble opinion.
First, that's not a "humble" opinion. If it were, you wouldn't accuse "MEN" as in all men in the industry. Second, women aren't expected to speak for all women's issues. They are taking it upon themselves to speak for all women's issues. Third, It's sexist to say "MEN" should be put under pressure because as individuals we can only control our own actions. If a man wants to sexually abuse, assault, or rape a woman he will do it no matter what happens. Which doesn't mean we as human beings shouldn't do anything about it, but it does mean we should have a civil discussion about this subject together and come up with solutions to minimize the possibility of it happening again.
You are right. Thankfully in the Roundtable with Taraji Henson and Isabelle Huppert the conversation was asked and Huppert bluntly said, that question is misogynist and I'm not going to answer. The other actresses backed her up. They never ask the men these questions, in any form.
@@TheSlodfj5 Perhaps, Frank, you might listen to a man, because you, like most guys, are not getting it. www.ted.com/talks/jackson_katz_violence_against_women_it_s_a_men_s_issue And btw? Your comment about it "happening again?" - - > it's happening *right now:* - - > every 4 minutes a woman is raped in the world by a man. (And please don't argue this statistic with me, or ask where is the study backing it up? Look up the multitude of studies yourself, the evidence is overwhelming. But.... Can we agree that no matter what the statistic is specifically, that this number is unacceptable? Can we agree, you agree in writing, that a *single woman or child* being raped by a man is incontrovertibly unacceptable? Can we start there? That seems to me to be unarguable. If it is not incontrovertible that a man raping someone is a bad thing, if that is even a question that exists in your mind, what does this say about men? - Watch the TED TALK if you are a man and you are reading this and you are not putting your hands on your bowed head and sobbing for your gender.) This isn't a "few bad apples," this isn't the occasional exception, a "one-off." This isn't something that we try and "minimize the possibility of it happening again." - - *We can't "minimize the possibility of something happening again" *if we can't get it to EVEN STOP HAPPENING in the first place.*- - People say that sexism is no longer a real problem. My reply is always the same. When roughly half the elected officials in this country and roughly half the higher management/officers in business are women, then I will stop talking about inequality in our society based on gender. S
I should add a quote from the recommended TED TALK at the beginning of my previous post, illustrating some of my points above: " Why is domestic violence still a big problem in the US and all over the world? What's going on? Why do so many men abuse physically, emotionally, verbally, and other ways, the women and girls, and the men and boys, that they claim to love? What's going on with men? Why do so many adult men sexually abuse little girls and boys? Why is that a common problem in our society and all over the world today? Why do we hear over and over again about new scandals erupting in major institutions like the Catholic Church or the Penn State football program or the Boy Scouts of America, on and on and on? And then local communities all over the country and all over the world. We hear about it all the time. The sexual abuse of children. What's going on with men? Why do so many men rape women in our society and around the world? Why do so many men rape other men? What is going on with men? And then what is the role of the various institutions in our society that are helping to produce abusive men at pandemic rates?" - Jackson Katz
I knew as soon as I saw that they chose a man to be the interviewer for this that something would go wrong. Him interrupting the women, leading their responses with questions that assumed a specific answer, but the blatant racism of skipping over Mary and not making a move to rectify that even when another actress was making a point to include her was by far the worst.
@Lauren Cummings I wouldn't find it strange, there should be a parent if not a legal babysitter you never know what bs goes on with a bunch of crazies in their own world of bs
There was a part in this interview when the actresses were talking and having fun and I forgot the interviewer was there. That was my favourite part until he opened his mouth again.
I'm 6:56 in and I've just notice him skip Mary for the first time, headed straight to the comments to see if others had noticed it. I can't believe he has the absolute nerve to do it!
Next time there’s a male roundtable, ask them some of the same questions about women’s equality in pay and opportunity, and sexual harassment and victimization.
...or.... ...you hear never, how many hard working man struggle in their daily job to see the (young) family see through, ....or deivorce the cut of! Heather Mills has been sought £125m for divorcing from Paul McCartney!! There are millions of women really struggling! Where is the solidarity here? ...the persantage of cuckoo chuld and yoou`ve no foundation to judge! ...women who blackmail their ex with their together child...broken existence following... The truth is in the middle darling!
They were asked about harassment and the accused Franco spoke. He did not tilt the narrative, though, as he is either guilty or did not want to suicide his career. No men's table would want to talk about "equal" pay as it is a FALSE narrative and speaking the truth would get you canceled.
Gmail name MJ should be speaking for herself, she was absolutely unwilling to participate. All the others are laughing, pitching, sharing ideas, even interrupting each other..... honestly, she needs to learn to speak up, or just don’t go to round tables, it was cringy to see how uncomfortable she looked.
@@rombrana6311 the interviewer directly looked and point at people for certain questions he did multiple times and bounced over Mary j bilge and ignored her Jessica saved this interview
Go Jessica for bringing Mary in the conversation. I loved this, not all the questions being about the actresses outfits or interactions with men in acting. These ladies are all very well spoken in these subjects and I don't get why interviewers dodge these deeper topics.
I love Jessica so much, she was very aware the interviewer was ignoring Miss Mary J. I don't wanna call him a racist, but why was he ignoring her? I'm mad
Chaco M I think he's either a racist or he thought his next question doesn't apply to her because she went through the music industry rather than the film industry first.
Chaco M good point, the fact that people's kneejerk reaction was that he's being racist, (when there are a lot of other possible reasons as to why she was skipped, there's also a possibility that he wasn't actually done askin that particular question yet) shows that they too, are being racist. At least sub-consciously. Edit: I meant to tag the autist whisperer.
Mike Lee he really did. He went in perfect clockwise sequence up until her and then just skipped her and went to the next lady. Whether he did it or not isn't up for the discussion because it's literally in front of your face. Why he did and why are u defending him is the question.
CuntRollFreak_nowasabi Well that is simply not true no body was skipped over yeah she was last which is kinda weird but Jessica just cut in before he had the chance to ask her a question if you truly believe she was skipped it is simply cognitive bias
Mike Lee no it's like right there...it's just a random coincidence that he just skipped mjb, but not Emma or Jen..that's what they've been doing for years..brushing off things as coincidence...in fact that's what this roundtable is even about..are you listening?? It's not my cognitive bias dude i think it's your cognitive dissonance
CuntRollFreak_nowasabi I am open minded to your point of view you might even be right but I honestly just do not see it maybe they edited to seem like that but Ima just stick with IDK on this one
Yeah like telling girls or other women that they needn't learn to defend themselves because people are just gonna stop being creeps, or stop being sexual predators. Such helpful feminist advice. I'm sorry but Chastain is a dunce.
Sarah when he said “I mean we can talk about pay if you like” as if he was giving her permission? I can’t believe they didn’t completely ridicule him because he’s awful
that point towards the end where the interviewer directly addressed Mary J Blige and said her name and everybody else around the table reacted..."omg. he said her name.finally! " #gold
Actually Saoirse said to Allison, "I can't think of anyone, what do I say?". Jennifer then makes a joke saying "Just say me", Saoirse looks over at her and laughs, then Emma mouths to Saoirse, "Say her, say her."
After Saorsi spoke for the first time I was expecting the interviewer ask Mary J Blige something. However, he massively ignored her. Hats off to Jessica who instantly reacted and included her. Love her!
Ah, of course you had trouble understanding this basic conversation. You subscribe to fucking "learn astrology" youtube channels. You are the bottom of the barrel when it comes to intelligence. My apologies, I had no idea. I'll let you get on with your fulfilling life of starting shit with people in youtube comments and learning made up bullshit from old senile women.
Jen is that one friend that would say something funny in the midst of a serious conversation and make everyone forget what they were discussing about for 2 seconds. Love her
@@No1More1Mr1Nice1Guy1 Precisely. I'm sick of their victimisation. It's evident it's blacks who can't seem to just get over it and so they perpetuate the issue. @@gutsk345nd7 don't belittle and say "dumb" ..that's so rude. On occasion, i've seen the interviewer engage a little with some light hearted responses or agreements or smiling/nodding to show there's some soul underneath.
I think the host's job is to really listen and not speak, in order to get as much on the topic before moving onto the next topic, his job is to get through in time, he knows that if he speaks it just takes away more time to get other words out and it should be from the women. If enough people are interested in how the hosts of these roundtables are, then maybe petition to have them have roundtables just for the key interviewers and have an actress like Jessica Chastain host them and do the questioning :)
Oh god, at 51:07, after the host said "Mary", look at their reactions! I thought there was something else going on, but there is a clearly audible "He just said her name!" exclaim from Allison! Ughh, just shame on him. It wasn't nervousness at all and they all caught on. Even gave those big reactions while being fully aware of all the cameras around them.
No it wasn’t that - just as he asked the question, saoirse audibly said “I can’t even think of anyone” and then Emma and jen were both saying “just say her name!” “Just say her,” about each other...
Ms Rana for crying out loud - no they did not. They reacted to the question! Yeah he’s an idiot and didn’t really say much to Mary J Blige. Maybe it was a race thing, and if so that’s horrendous, maybe it’s down to her being known first and foremost as an RnB artist rather than serious actress - but whatever it is, it’s still not fine to make stuff up about this interview.
Actually Saoirse said to Allison, "I can't think of anyone, what do I say?". Jennifer then makes a joke saying "Just say me", Saoirse looks over at her and laughs, then Emma mouths to Saoirse, "Say her, say her."
I am impressed by Jessica Chastain i think i might watch alot more of her movies. She has and understanding that doesn't come from books. She gets the essence of emotional situations which I have not seen in many people.
Her _understanding_ rarely comes from facts either. She has defamed several innocent people for being "sexual predators" or "rapists" in the past year. For instance, right off the bat here she names Fatty Arbuckle in her litany of alleged perverts and abusers, fully ignoring the mountains of evidence that Arbuckle was falsely accused by a notorious grifter. That instinct to promote and portray falsehoods as true has served her well in her profession. Not, however, in reality.
FungusMossGnosis that's an interesting perspective I did not consider. I was looking more at the manner in which she engaged each person at the table while including Mary J Blige in the conversation while not embarrassing the interviewer from some poor facilitating. With that being said I would have to fact check the fatty Arbuckle situation before I can rebut your claims of distorted thinking on her part but want to know more now. Thanks.
Yeah, she seems to respect everyone equally and not look down on others from a bubble of fame and entitlement (unlike narcissists J-Law and Emma Stone)
Because... guys are creeps? This is a horrendous analogy, but here goes: "Why are you teaching me to lock my door instead of teaching people not to break into houses?" I'm curious to hear (or I guess read) your response.
you assume we don't already teach girls and women to protect themselves. we learn to protect ourselves from a very early age. his daughter knew how to protect herself, like every woman does. it doesn't always work. the lock doesn't always hold. yeah, lock your door, but if someone gets through and is caught they're going to jail and there are going to be repercussions. we're taught not steal and if someone does steal, society tells us there are no excuses. so lets teach men there are no excuses to rape and harass.
its more on the side of, you can be comfortable with yourself if you feel you can protect yourself. instead of just relying on other peoples sense of decency.
Serious...heavy... serious... female rights, sexual assault ..."soooo...allison...what was your fav role?" Really? Wtf is HE asking these questions. He transitioned that so badly. Hes awful
MissKK660 Right, one of the actresses (I forget who, sorry) made a lovely point on pay equality and he's like "hm. Soooo Allison, what role affected you blah blah blah"
Mary j Blige is one of the most seasoned and successful artists apart of this conversation and should have been acknowledged by the host sooner, Jessica literally had to do his job for him.
As a father of 3 daughters, I’m really thankful that the woman of Hollywood are shining a light to the injustice of sexual abuse. All girls and woman should be respected and protected. The awareness is going to create a change.
That's great and everything but do you really need to justify what you're saying "As a father of 3 daughters"? Can't women just be respected and protected because we are humans and we exist? Not just because you happen to have female children?
G -Race When a father has daughters, you empathize about women’s issues on a deeper level than if you didn’t. A fathers desire to protect his daughters is a sacred thing. My main point is, Hollywood is a megaphone that can do allot of good where normal people like me only can leave a comment on RUclips. It shouldn’t matter to you how and why we men support and respect woman’s issues, as long as we do. Because these actresses are taking a stand, it creates a climate that change can happen that will hopefully impact and help my daughters further down the road.
I've just realized I've also been pretending to be a tomboy for the last couple years because of this. When you show your femininity men and boys will treat you different, and mostly not in a respectful way. Not in a way that makes you feel positively valued. EDIT: Serious actors are some of the most Empathetic people out here.
Marlena Sien you’re very clearly indoctrinated. So sad young women think that femininity, a weapon actually used to hold you down, will bring you high regard and power. Femininity fades, superficial beauty fades within a blink of an eye and all your left with is a vapid shell. Femininity is not natural for any species, so why would we humans, specifically women, be the exception?.. because we, women, are not the exception, it isn’t baked in our brains to like makeup, high hills, subduction, dresses and all things “girly”, we’re deliberately socially engineered through countless of hours and years of indoctrination into being that unnatural way.
Jessica Chastain! Sweet move. I was about to turn it off because it was bugging me more and more as he made eye contact with every person save one, and was about to start a second round. Thanks to Jessica I kept watching.
Great roundtable! Probably one of my favorite. Such classy ladies from all ages and backgrounds. Allison Janney is awesome just in her ability to be present and comfortable, and Jennifer and Emma's friendship gives me life! Saorise holds her own so well for someone so young, and Jessica is an eloquent, humble, beautiful lady. Mary J. Blige has a beautiful soul. This one is for keeps!
As a man this brought me to tears I won’t see a change in my lifetime unless I live to 100/150 I feel for this struggle my mother experienced abuse and it has stayed with me since I was a little boy. I know there are millions of brothers and father’s out there who would give their lives for their sisters and mothers and father’s who would give their lives for their daughters. We will support you no matter what happens but I also know that you don’t want us to do anything that could be detrimental to our lives. Discussions like this should have men and women participating.
I love Jessica Chastain for asking Mary to speak the dude was just glossing over her 😂 Mary has a story and I think Jessica knew that and I’m again happy she asked her to speak as soon as she had
j. Nicholl you do realise how Razzie's work? People pay $40 to be a member then they can vote for their choices. So, this year loads of Jennifer haters have paid up so they can help her win another award - I mean, even her most ardent fans don't spend that much on her do they? You gotta laugh at how dumb they really are!
Rob C mother didn’t get great audience or critical reviews. It was predictably going to get Razzies. The metaphors and story were a little obvious and try hard but that’s just my opinion.
Watching this is 2/2020 and Thank you Jessica Chastain for including Mary J Blige into the conversation because Matt COMPLETELY and almost rudely overlooked her! No clue why maybe he was waiting to involve her when he got to the newbie section or the music to actor transition but she's apart of the industry and I really wanted to hear what she had to say. So again thank you Jessica.
No they weren’t reacting to him addressing Mary by her name, Soirsa was whispering that she didn’t know what to say, as in what example to give in regards to the queue asked all of them...it had nothing to do with Mary at all.
How about you make the topic of inequality and harassment just as much a part of conversation in the male round tables? Every single female roundtable THR makes it a huge portion of questions; while just talking about craft in the male ones. There has to be conversation on both sides for any change,, just saying!
14:36-14:41 Emma Stone throws a perfect segue to Jennifer Lawrence and gets verbal pushback from that announcer. Shut up dude, recognize a smooth transition and step out of its way.
You want to spend a whole hour talking about gender equality? You do realise it’s a round table about actors talking about movie making correct? Moron.
17sunnyhour I definitely get that and agree to some extent but she is already there and she was asked to be there so I think since that’s the case, she should be treated with as much respect as everyone else at the table.
Ima Go Apesht I dislike the host, but I didn’t notice him mistreating MJB.. are you referring to the fact that he didn’t pay as much attention to her as he should have?
Slobodan Tosovic That would obviously be the entire point. She might as well have not been there. That's mistreatment and it's quite embarassing on their part. Typical actions and then they claim to have morals and respect....pfftt!
Anna Rae Well I enjoyed her on the panel.. but also as a singer who’s also good at acting she’s obviously gonna be overlooked compared to professional actresses.. until she establishes herself as an actress
Actual ally Jessica Chastain speaking up in ways the other 4 white actors at the table don't, or won't. Let's get her to moderate a panel and hear some real questions, shall we?
That's... the whole point. They didn't care to speak up. The panelist asked one question about the wage gap, mentioned nothing else about the inequalities in Hollywood, and also pointedly ignored the only black actor on the panel when he asked the pay question. Who gives a fuck what she's like IRL (because I'm sure you know her), at least she's trying to give others a voice of their own instead of speaking over them.
Alison that would be JLaw. Maybe Emma Stone did too but it’s definitely clear she’s slept with other producers and directors. Her meteoritic rise was way too fast not to. If not she would been heading straight back to Arizona!
That's a very good point with the directors roundtable!
Louder for the people in the back!
No pay inequality morons.

Men’s round table first question : is now a good time to be an actor?
Women’s round table first question : S E X U A L A S S A U L T
well, that might be because they agreed to speak out about that subject primarily, then because the audience is more interested in the female point of view on this subject rather than the male opinion. Or they, the actresses themselves, requested it.
However, I think is cute for you saying that men should speak and give more their opinion on this subject.
because women are mainly getting sexually assaulted in the industry.
Inequality everywhere

Emma Stone's side eye when the interviewer says "Brooklyn" is a big mood.
Alls I'm saying is that some of the issue was him not giving her a chance to speak until later in the interview (poor job on him) but some of it was on Mary and any of the actresses to engage with each other in a voluntary discussion.

xxoxox you shut the fuck up. You support sexual assault?
Jessica Chastain is honestly one of the most genuine people I've ever seen.
He was a horrible host. Chastain had to bring MJB into the conversation initially. The women hosts in this series do a much better job.
@@TheSlodfj5 Perhaps, Frank, you might listen to a man, because you, like most guys, are not getting it. www.ted.com/talks/jackson_katz_violence_against_women_it_s_a_men_s_issue
And btw?
- Watch the TED TALK if you are a man and you are reading this and you are not putting your hands on your bowed head and sobbing for your gender.)
This isn't a "few bad apples," this isn't the occasional exception, a "one-off." This isn't something that we try and "minimize the possibility of it happening again."
- - *We can't "minimize the possibility of something happening again" *if we can't get it to EVEN STOP HAPPENING in the first place.*- -
People say that sexism is no longer a real problem. My reply is always the same. When roughly half the elected officials in this country and roughly half the higher management/officers in business are women, then I will stop talking about inequality in our society based on gender.
S
I should add a quote from the recommended TED TALK at the beginning of my previous post, illustrating some of my points above:
" Why is domestic violence still a big problem in the US and all over the world?

I think the host's job is to really listen and not speak, in order to get as much on the topic before moving onto the next topic, his job is to get through in time, he knows that if he speaks it just takes away more time to get other words out and it should be from the women. If enough people are interested in how the hosts of these roundtables are, then maybe petition to have them have roundtables just for the key interviewers and have an actress like Jessica Chastain host them and do the questioning :)
exactly
Oh god, at 51:07, after the host said "Mary", look at their reactions! I thought there was something else going on, but there is a clearly audible "He just said her name!" exclaim from Allison!
Ughh, just shame on him. It wasn't nervousness at all and they all caught on. Even gave those big reactions while being fully aware of all the cameras around them.
yeah, someone literally whispered, "he said her name!"
Omg I noticed this too! I wonder what was going on.
No it wasn’t that - just as he asked the question, saoirse audibly said “I can’t even think of anyone” and then Emma and jen were both saying “just say her name!” “Just say her,” about each other...
I don't geddit... please explain...hahaha
51:06 i love the women's reaction, someone even whispered he said her name, i-
Actually Saoirse said to Allison, "I can't think of anyone, what do I say?". Jennifer then makes a joke saying "Just say me", Saoirse looks over at her and laughs, then Emma mouths to Saoirse, "Say her, say her."
26:28 did the host really think Brooklyn existed in the 16th century LMAO
i know, so cringy
Emma's look to him after he said that should be freeze-framed and made into a meme.
I am impressed by Jessica Chastain i think i might watch alot more of her movies. She has and understanding that doesn't come from books. She gets the essence of emotional situations which I have not seen in many people.
If you haven't seen it yet, watch The Tree of Life! Magnificent!!
Thanks.
Incogsino Channel watch zero dark 30 and interstellar. My tops!
Incogsino Channel interstellar and zero dark thirty are my tops! But I still have to watch Molly's game.
Jessica Chastain came across really well here.
Blue Calm Productions i will give you that
She always does in my opinion. She seems like a highly intelligent and aware individual.
Yeah, she seems to respect everyone equally and not look down on others from a bubble of fame and entitlement (unlike narcissists J-Law and Emma Stone)
How?
T Clark she was the only one in this table who showed respect to a legend like Mary J Blidge
Yes Jessica! Thank you for including Mary J Blige into the conversation!
..Lol! I Know right! ..That was the Interviewer's Job!
..Racist asFux.
"Why are you teaching me to defend myself instead of teaching guys not to be creeps?" 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Mareeen14 when did they said that?👏
Victoria Quesada 22:00
Because... guys are creeps? This is a horrendous analogy, but here goes:
"Why are you teaching me to lock my door instead of teaching people not to break into houses?"
I'm curious to hear (or I guess read) your response.
you assume we don't already teach girls and women to protect themselves. we learn to protect ourselves from a very early age. his daughter knew how to protect herself, like every woman does. it doesn't always work. the lock doesn't always hold. yeah, lock your door, but if someone gets through and is caught they're going to jail and there are going to be repercussions. we're taught not steal and if someone does steal, society tells us there are no excuses. so lets teach men there are no excuses to rape and harass.
its more on the side of, you can be comfortable with yourself if you feel you can protect yourself. instead of just relying on other peoples sense of decency.
Emma and Mary J's faces when the host mistook Brooklyn for the 16th century movie should be in the Meme Hall of Fame.
Serious...heavy... serious... female rights, sexual assault
..."soooo...allison...what was your fav role?" Really? Wtf is HE asking these questions. He transitioned that so badly. Hes awful
MissKK660 Right, one of the actresses (I forget who, sorry) made a lovely point on pay equality and he's like "hm. Soooo Allison, what role affected you blah blah blah"
I'm wheezing
Mary j Blige is one of the most seasoned and successful artists apart of this conversation and should have been acknowledged by the host sooner, Jessica literally had to do his job for him.
As a father of 3 daughters, I’m really thankful that the woman of Hollywood are shining a light to the injustice of sexual abuse. All girls and woman should be respected and protected. The awareness is going to create a change.
One earns respect and isnt just entitled to it. Men have to earn it, women just want to get it for free.
That's great and everything but do you really need to justify what you're saying "As a father of 3 daughters"? Can't women just be respected and protected because we are humans and we exist? Not just because you happen to have female children?
+Eugen Glassmann
Shut the fuck up, sick freak
G -Race When a father has daughters, you empathize about women’s issues on a deeper level than if you didn’t. A fathers desire to protect his daughters is a sacred thing. My main point is, Hollywood is a megaphone that can do allot of good where normal people like me only can leave a comment on RUclips. It shouldn’t matter to you how and why we men support and respect woman’s issues, as long as we do. Because these actresses are taking a stand, it creates a climate that change can happen that will hopefully impact and help my daughters further down the road.
Crazy water Says it's not just women. Men have also been sexually harassed, and they should come out and tell people too.
All these women had such empathy on their faces and I loved how they listened to one another so intently.
I was wondering how long this video was and saw I’d been watching for 40 mins! I could listen to Jessica and Saoirse talk forever.
Saoirse Ronan is such a talented actress.
I love how when everyone gave the guy the WTF look when he thought Brooklyn was 16th century!! homeboy watch these lovrly women's films
We all notice this idiot just omitted Mrs Blige and Jessica pull her inside the topic, she is awesome.
I could hear Saoirse speak in that accent forever!
He just straight up cut them off at the end?? Bro it's a RUclips video, there's no time limit! That was super rude and awkward
Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence need to be in a movie together!
I know! I was so intrigued by the "secret project" they said they are working on
Best actresses panel in quite a few years. But can the moderator please stop interrupting them?
Jennifer Mathis Jennifer and Emma should not be here this year
Can jennifer lawrence stop interrupting everyone to talk about her self??? the rest awesome actresses and people
At least it's not fucking Stephen Galloway
it's weird cuz wasn't she Harvey Weinstein's muse/prodigy for a while?
And I I was gonna say...but I can sense he's picking up on some of galloways habits
Thank God for Mary J Blige
As a man this brought me to tears I won’t see a change in my lifetime unless I live to 100/150 I feel for this struggle my mother experienced abuse and it has stayed with me since I was a little boy. I know there are millions of brothers and father’s out there who would give their lives for their sisters and mothers and father’s who would give their lives for their daughters. We will support you no matter what happens but I also know that you don’t want us to do anything that could be detrimental to our lives. Discussions like this should have men and women participating.
THR really needs some genuine, smart, and competent moderators! He was just so inadequate in the conversation of these intellectual women!!
I love Jessica Chastain for asking Mary to speak the dude was just glossing over her 😂 Mary has a story and I think Jessica knew that and I’m again happy she asked her to speak as soon as she had
Erm why did the host pay little to no attention to Mary J Blige
Lay Are you going to pretend you don't know why?
UltimateBrody is that rhetorical?? i think it pretty obvious why.
He didn’t ask her the first question because she answered it before in a previous round table if that answers your question
Two reasons. Either he's a racist or he's so intimidated by the light shining from this amazing woman that he can't even look that way.
Natalya I AGREE FULLY
Saoirse Ronan's accent is like so soothing and lovely. I could listen to her talk about anything.
The talent is amazing at this table
j. nicholl uh, Meryl Streep isn’t there...
Oh yeah I wish she was here but come on.... there all great! A Razzie non for Mother! really?
Rob C Well mainstream audiences are not very smart are they?
Rob C mother didn’t get great audience or critical reviews. It was predictably going to get Razzies. The metaphors and story were a little obvious and try hard but that’s just my opinion.
Jennifer's "uuhh that's Saoirse Ronan" joke really got me. I love her sense of humor so much 😂
what part?
Smart talented women having deep open and real conversations. Love this!
When the guy say Mary and they all reacted. So painfully awkward how he didn’t address her that even they noticed and made it obvious 😬😬
campervan20 I was wondering what this comment was about until I was in the last 10 minutes hahaha shoooook
Best moment in this video is minute 37:09 with Alisson asking Saoirse to stop doing that accent XD
😂😆😆😆
14:36-14:41 Emma Stone throws a perfect segue to Jennifer Lawrence and gets verbal pushback from that announcer. Shut up dude, recognize a smooth transition and step out of its way.
emma stone, jennifer lawrence, and saoirse ronan......those are literally my top fav actresses wtf OMG
Jennifer Lawrence+Harwey Weinstein=👫🤮
ree dolly no it’s the truth there’s multiple videos of Jennifer praising Weinstein
the worse host ever... asking not very intelligent questions, turned the topic into movie making instead of the gender unequality...
Male feminists are the WORST creeps
You want to spend a whole hour talking about gender equality? You do realise it’s a round table about actors talking about movie making correct? Moron.
@unknowning unknown yes ALL of them ,you desperate LOSER ,lower form of life
I hate how the guy treats MJB throughout this discussion.
17sunnyhour I definitely get that and agree to some extent but she is already there and she was asked to be there so I think since that’s the case, she should be treated with as much respect as everyone else at the table.
You invite all the nominated actresses, do your damn homework and speak on topics they All can speak on. Not just the ones who make you comfortable
Some serious talent at this table. Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain and Soairse Ronan are 3 of my favourite actresses
emma stone too 😍😍🔥🔥
Actual ally Jessica Chastain speaking up in ways the other 4 white actors at the table don't, or won't. Let's get her to moderate a panel and hear some real questions, shall we?
courknob Rather not, she's a bore and a narcissist, can't act for shit either and I didn't see the other actresses notice it either.
That's... the whole point.
Seeing a female moderator in such a delicate topic would feel amazing. It would have been of great thoughtfulness of the show.
*They ignored it because almost all of them slept with a man in charge. Its obvious.*
Alison that would be JLaw. Maybe Emma Stone did too but it’s definitely clear she’s slept with other producers and directors. Her meteoritic rise was way too fast not to. If not she would been heading straight back to Arizona!
