She’s certainly smart and thoughtful. More complex than we could have predicted, given the far right wing views of her father and her liberal positions on issues. They all seemed clever to me.
13:08 - 16:08 it was SO rude that Angelina finished telling the hell of an emotional story, the director from Montreal (don't remember his name) asked her a question about it because he had an experience himself on the subject but the interviewer cut the communication to ask HIM to tell his story first and never let it come back to Angelina. Is that desperation to participate and lead the table all the time to the point you cut two directors interacting on a beautiful emotional common ground? I'm so pissed off
yes! i was so frustrated by that. he really wanted to hear an answer from Angelina and get her experience from that, ( and it was an interesting question- so i was curious to hear if she had a story of someone telling her something). but then the moderator frames it as - well, lets hear your answer FIRST and we'll switch back to her. so we hear his answer and you can see the moment after, he's expecting the attention to go Angelina to answer what he'd asked originally. right around 16:07. but suddenly 16:09 the moderator just asks a different question to someone else. completely skipping Angelina, who was the person on the receiving end of the question in the first place. smh this part and some other parts. galloway was absolutely interrupting the flow. the directors had a good vibe going and reacting well to each other but galloway chopped it up. it's really unfortunate when the members sitting at the table have something to say and they're cut off instead. this is supposed to be a roundtable discussion and the moderator should step in when it's needed or rewording a question to focus the answer but it really wasn't necessary for him to interrupt at most parts when he did. rather than letting the members dictate the flow and seeing where the conversation goes, what topics to bring up.... increasingly galloway turns it into Q&A and metaphorically passing the mic over. then it's just like any other panel and interview at other places. it's not roundtable discussion in that regard
He's just moderating very articulate, passionate people with a lot to say. If he lets everyone talk as long as they want then you won't hear from everyone at the table. Not an easy gig.
Just yet another copycat. If you have and i know you dont, any experience with tv editing that i have done. You can see clearly many times clips are cut and edited back together so it looks like his next question is almost happening when other guy just finished. Besides, their production company propably had sent him list of things to ask and to keep things in schedule too. You dont know ANYTHING about tv production, lot less even youtube.
Yeh every time I click on one of these roundtables and I see his face, I am so tempted to just turn it off immediately because I cant grab him and throw him out the room
I never leave negative, or really any, comments on RUclips videos, but as a film student these roundtables are my favorite things on RUclips. And I understand stand Stephen Galloway is doing his best, but the way he interrupts people is really frustrating. I would LOVE to just see these directors interact with and converse with each other with guided conversation rather than just question and answer. If you do that then these videos are just like any other interview. I really hope these round tables continue. The interview style just needs to change. I do not mind if Stephen stays. He just needs to adjust the way he moderates these discussions. I wanna hear every little things that comes out of the directors/actors mouths. So the interruptions make them hard to watch. Matthew Belloni is great at these.
I kinda wish there wasn't moderator. Not just because this guy gets off on interrupting everyone, but because I like the discussions they get into when they ask each other questions and talk freely and it's annoying when a moderator interrupts the flow of that. I know they have a moderator to make sure that everyone can get a word in, but I think they've all been talkative enough on their own. It'd be interesting to see.
Kristina Lauren No. It's not having a moderator. It's just Galloway. I've seen the same format with Lacey as the moderator and it's way better. Galloway can just fuck right off.
Bob Mob Have you seen the roundtables with Lacey as host? They're infinitely better because the editors don't need to awkwardly cut while the interviewee is talking.
12:50 It is so fitting that Angelina talks about her experience in that jungle, and the spiritual moment she had. Sitting next to her is Guillermo who not only completely believes in spirits and ghosts, but he also understands that ghosts are rarely malevolent. Spirits are echoes, reflection of evils committed on this earth in past, and present. They can do you no harm, and you can learn a lot from them if you stop and listen. True monsters, true harm comes in physical form. They wear the faces of men. Me personally, I've never experienced nor am particularly keen in indulging in belief or practice of anything related to spirits. But far better men than I are convinced that spirits are real. Who am I to say they are wrong? Science has not yet proved they don't exist, nor that they do. So for now, I will keep that as my opinion. I just don't know yet. However, I have come to truly appreciate the fact that spirits; if they do exist, are to be shown respect and compassion, and this is partly due to Guillermo and his works.
Denise Villeneuve asked Angelina Jolie a question and the interviewer deflected it back to him saying "you first" and then never returned it to Jolie. I wish he had kept that ball in the air, it makes it awkward when interviewers do stuff like that.
it doesn't happen often but sometimes a nominee seems so genuine so happy to be in the awards race that its a pleasure to watch.. Guillermo Del toro Amy Ryan gone baby gone Hailee Steinfeld true grit
That answer he had to the last question, if he could film anything it would be his own childhood... I've never heard anyone answer that question like that and it's the best answer I've ever heard.
It is NOT edited or at least not to the degree that the editing is the problem. HE is the problem... this discussion appears below every video he's in and we rarely have it when _anyone_ else is (actually) moderating. He is not...
Ignorant people will remain ignorant. One of the main jobs of the moderator is to keep the conversation going, especially when the time is constrained.
I met Guillermo and I can say that he is one of the most incredible and humble people I have ever met, he is definitely a person who knows his priorities and knows how to handle success with a grace and sympathy that only a few have, a true artist

It was an abomination when GDT was telling the story about the car mishap, and Stephen interrupts him and ask others a question. The energy of that conversation was electric, Stephen just turn itoff.ugh...
So, the problem with the moderator isn't that he interrupts the conversation. It's a produced segment and it needs to keep moving but when he interrupts the conversation to ask a question that was previously written rather than digging in deeper is really disappointing.

Angelina’s gaze, it speaks volumes, it has a deep emotional depth. What a wonderful woman, intelligent woman. I just want to stare at her all throughout the whole interview. My feelings for her has not changed since I discovered her in Gia back in 1999....
Angelina Jolie is simply brilliant. I love all the other directors, but she has a special genius that makes her see things from such an original angle all the time. For example, the way she answered the very last question, pointing out that it's not the place where the camera is set, but the outcome and that we witness so much destruction and violence and we don't change. Where should we place the camera in order to change? I just love her.

Angelina is such a passionate director, she wants to convey messages so that the world can change for the better, she is not there to make block busters.
But it's easier to spread that message if you can get more people to watch it and be moved by it. I applaud her for that desire, but it's not like she's the only director or writer or actor, or anything, that cares about that. She's a person, she deserves to be respected for that, along with the rest of us, not idolized on a pedestal.
Love Guillermo Del Toro. His reactions to the questions are so real. Great at what he does and a great human being as well. One of the best of our times!
Love Guillermo's interruption on the last question. Really fell in love with him during this roundtable. So honest and happy to talk about the process. Almost want someone to interview him on the technical stuff as he so wants to talk about it.
My appreciation for Guillermo Del Toro has increased ten folds. Angelina Jolie is distractingly beautiful, her cheekbones could slice through a diamond. I love how concerned she is with action in time of need rather than any other aspect of living. I love that about her, I aspire to be able to be at that level of action in the near future.
I never really payed attention to Angelinas directing career but after watching this it is clear she is incredible. I have so much more respect for her now.
Listening to Angelina talking about Cambodia while that scene with the kid was on screen brought me to tears. That's so powerful and I don't know how to explain. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and give that powerful testimony to the world
Shitty people generally get more success. It’s because they know they’re shit and they try to get along with management to get better jobs. Whereas people who’re good at their jobs just do it and expect things to come to them which never happens because someone shitty had already licked some shoes to get it.

Greta Gerwig is so lucky to be apart of this round table. Not that she doesn't deserve to be there herself, but to be able to connect with these veterans of the craft must be invaluable to a new director.
It is glad.to watch Guillermo developing the tenure with such confidence and arguments on an easy and natural way... He is one of a kind Kind regards from México
He takes so much interest in what other people at the table are saying and relates their experience with something that he has himself experienced before. Shows how down to Earth he is. Love him! So happy now that his movie won the best picture award even though I didn't like it.

i think this roundtable deserves to be moderated by someone who is at least genuinely interested in what these directors have to say. not even knowledgable, just interested. he has to be able to grasp the meaning of what they are trying to say. this will in turn encourage them to share more and go more in depth into what their experiences and feelings truly are concerning their craft.

I'm so pissed off
the interview always upsets me
Yeah that pissed me off as well. It was unbelievable.
yes! i was so frustrated by that. he really wanted to hear an answer from Angelina and get her experience from that, ( and it was an interesting question- so i was curious to hear if she had a story of someone telling her something). but then the moderator frames it as - well, lets hear your answer FIRST and we'll switch back to her. so we hear his answer and you can see the moment after, he's expecting the attention to go Angelina to answer what he'd asked originally. right around 16:07. but suddenly 16:09 the moderator just asks a different question to someone else. completely skipping Angelina, who was the person on the receiving end of the question in the first place. smh
this part and some other parts. galloway was absolutely interrupting the flow. the directors had a good vibe going and reacting well to each other but galloway chopped it up. it's really unfortunate when the members sitting at the table have something to say and they're cut off instead. this is supposed to be a roundtable discussion and the moderator should step in when it's needed or rewording a question to focus the answer but it really wasn't necessary for him to interrupt at most parts when he did. rather than letting the members dictate the flow and seeing where the conversation goes, what topics to bring up.... increasingly galloway turns it into Q&A and metaphorically passing the mic over. then it's just like any other panel and interview at other places. it's not roundtable discussion in that regard
That director from Montreal is a maestro hahah 👀
Yup that bothered me too 😡
STOP INTERRUPTING PEOPLE WHEN THEY ARE PASSIONATELY TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING!
He's just moderating very articulate, passionate people with a lot to say. If he lets everyone talk as long as they want then you won't hear from everyone at the table. Not an easy gig.
He has to control the time and wrap everything in an hour
@@kushall3515 And yet the other moderators manage to accomplish that without tactlessly interrupting people.

Angelina's face was carved by greek gods. Breathtaking
Who else says Guillermo del Toro is their favorite director?
I kinda wish there wasn't moderator. Not just because this guy gets off on interrupting everyone, but because I like the discussions they get into when they ask each other questions and talk freely and it's annoying when a moderator interrupts the flow of that. I know they have a moderator to make sure that everyone can get a word in, but I think they've all been talkative enough on their own. It'd be interesting to see.
Exactly
Yes! I want it to be like Variety's actor on actor interviews!
Kristina Lauren No. It's not having a moderator. It's just Galloway. I've seen the same format with Lacey as the moderator and it's way better. Galloway can just fuck right off.

Angelina Jolie AND Guillermo Del Toro, two of my favorite film artists of all time at a table interview together? WHAT A TREAT! THANK YOU!
*Denis
It was so incredibly rude and came off a bit chauvinistic.

That answer he had to the last question, if he could film anything it would be his own childhood... I've never heard anyone answer that question like that and it's the best answer I've ever heard.
I see why the moderator is called the interruptor...
That guy is so disrespectful.
He’s probably got not more than an hour with them and has to ask as many questions as he can
it's edited (trunchated): blame the editors, not the host
It is NOT edited or at least not to the degree that the editing is the problem. HE is the problem... this discussion appears below every video he's in and we rarely have it when _anyone_ else is (actually) moderating. He is not...
Ignorant people will remain ignorant. One of the main jobs of the moderator is to keep the conversation going, especially when the time is constrained.
Im a cambodian, to hear angie speak so passionately about our country makes me so happy.
