When Michelle Yeoh said that it felt like everything she’s done in the past 40 years of her career prepared her for EEAAO, I felt that. Growing up and watching her films, being inspired by this woman for DECADES- I cried many times but especially when they gave us the supercut of all the Michelle Yeohs. She deserves it ALL 🙌🏻
Agreed. She is sublime in everything she does. She should get all of the things. ALL. OF . THE. THINGS.
I've loved her so much since memoirs of a geisha
Yeah right…..awesome reviews on her latest piece of garbage. Blood Origin. I invite you to peruse the amazing reviews…..bahahahahaha, groundbreaking stufff!
It actually made me tear up
@@Tarquin67 One bad show literally doesn't matter. it's not even her fault the show was bad lmao
When Michelle Yeoh is talking about her role in "Everything Everywhere All At Once", every actress in the roundtable is looking at her with envy-admired eyes that this role is what they dream of and they know and have witnessed Michelle could do it as perfectly as she did
trash movie
Bravo!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Timestamp?
that is a role that many actresses want but do not get. Blanchett's role is what most actresses cannot do even if they get
@Cat litter angyl It was actually made with Jackie Chan in mind originally
Claires comment about movies/movie-makers fetishizing traumatic events that happen to women rather than prioritizing the humanity of that person and their experience -- maybe the most powerful statement said. This is a global pandemic and diseased perspective that is rampant in the world. See, understand and connect to women as human beings. They are not "others" to be fetishized in movies or in real life. They are humans.
This is why I hated "Blonde"
Um. Yall just stupid. You and her. Relax.
What films are “fetishing traumatic events that happen to women”?
exactly! Blonde and their abort scenes for example. So irresponsable.
@@j2174 So many
Michelle Yeoh’s performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once shows she can indeed do drama, action and comedy-everything all at once.” She deserves to win at the Academy for best actress
This aged well.
She won a Golden Globe award… Oscar is coming up next!!! 🎉😍✨
As someone who has been a Michelle Yeoh fan since seeing her in Heroic Trio and Executioners, it struck me odd that she was correct that mainstream Hollywood and casual movie people only "discover her" when her next movie comes out. This year when people saw Everything , Everywhere All at Once, some of my friends or my friends children were saying " This NEW actress Michelle 'something' was AMAZING in that movie. I hope she does something else." I then have to get on my high horse and give them a history of the legend that she is and has always been.
YESSS. My dad used to buy VCDs of all her movies (from the Hong Kong films to Hollywood) and we’d watch with my grandpa. 3 generations of Asians sharing a love for Michelle Yeoh. She’s a living legend in Southeast Asia and it’s completely normal. So to hear how people know her just from Crazy Rich Asians and EEAAO I’m genuinely surprised before I realize not everyone had my childhood with Dato Michelle Yeoh being literally in everything everywhere all at once 🥲✨
I really don't want to be a snob but I roll my eyes hard at folks who just 'discover' Michelle
Like to me, she was always up there in stardom WITH Jackie Chan
I'll be honest, i first saw her in tomorrow never dies as a kid, but she really has done so much great work
I have seen a lot of people (not super young people) saying they only discovered her recently which I find quite amazing because in my mind Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was very popular, even in a "mainstream" way back in the day. She has also been fairly consistently in her output since then? But I guess since Crouching Tiger, her works have not achieved as much mainstream success besides some moderate success with Memoirs of a Geisha.
44:33 All of them just busting out laughing when Jennifer Lawrence talked about Bryan Singer SENT me. I was over here giggling too.
Lmao yes that had me floored
Bryan singer is the poster child for emotional man. I CANT. 🤣
Bryan Singer, the child molester?
yeah that went viral on twitter lol
It’s funny how all she had to do was bring up his name and everybody knew what she meant
I love how Michelle directs her conversation to everyone including the camera/people watching this to make everyone a part of the discussion. Shows so much of her incredible experience with speaking publicly ❤️
Michelle Yeoh, not only she's drop dead gorgeous, elegant, talented, funny and the list of adjectives goes on.... she catches everyone's attention with her aura, and of course by just being the legend she is, but especially with her brilliant way with words. She speaks her thoughts with such outright confidence and gracefulness, like everything else she does, and I just can't help but be totally and completely enchanted by her.
I had the biggest laugh when Claire Foy screamed she LOVED love is blind, just so unexpected 😂

Same! I have always loved Michelle Yeoh but I am obsessed at the moment. I'm so happy to see her in different kinds of roles now, she's amazing.
@@liannegrayphotography5042 now is the time for her to shine more!!
best highlights : Michelle calling out Hollywood favoritism and telling the girls should be lucky they don't have to deal with directors or producers you can't be a certain character because of color. Also Jennifer calling out Bryan Singer out while doing xmen and just being honest and vulnerable. Love this table they should do it every year see how the progress is with each actress like they did with Billie for her teen years..
Watching this confirmed two things for me : 1) Michelle Yeoh is the epitome of grace and intelligence 😍2) Jennifer Lawrence has perfect comic timing 😂

Yeah I really liked the line about how she was the first female action star.
I used to like JL but I can see her slowly turn into a toxic femininity figure there's negative vibe from her

Facts
There is still a very marked difference in the questions that are asked at the actress roundtables versus the questions asked at the actors roundtables. I get that there are some social issues that are important for actresses in the public eye to talk about but I find it strange that only the women have to have these types of conversations where as the men get to wax lyrical about their art, character psychology, method , experiences etc. I would like to hear more about these extraordinary actreses artistic processes!
Tbh I find these topics way more interesting. You can watch other interviews where they talk about their method like the one where two actresses/actors talk to each other about their work.
Instead, I wish the men would be forced to talk more about social issues. I find it more that the men are hiding behind the excuse that it's all just about the work. The work is easy if you're a man. Women need to talk about social issues because they are hindered and hurt by those issues. Men NEED to talk about those issues so that the rest of the world listens up. Men get paid more, men have more power. Unless they start talking about that fact, they are keeping the system alive
Exaclty!! I want to hear men talk about abortion.
@@phoebeel Couldn't agree more. A lot of the reason we're not seeing the progress we should is that we label these "women's issues" and allow men to leave it to us to fix. We are all impacted by SA, sexism, and anti-abortion laws. These are not "women's issues;" they're human rights issues.
@Jennifer Ludewig I agree with Jennifer Lawrence that men need to protect women from our toxicity by excluding them from our spaces whenever possible.
I’m so glad someone else said this. I was annoyed with the way this entire interview was conducted when compared to this years Actors and Writers round table.
I love that Emma Corrin is part of this. I feel like younger actresses like Emma, and also Emma Mackey for ‘Emily’, have not gotten enough recognition for the stellar performances they gave this year :/
shes non binary- soo shes not an actress. shes an actor- not a male actor or female actor just actor. the word actress needs to die.
@@kainkaminski888 they don’t have a problem with being included in the “actress” category, so you shouldn’t either.
Her playing Diana was awesome
Oh so she's an actress when its convenient, but also not a woman
Emma Corrin is like a chameleon! Magical to watch.
Seeing Michelle Yeoh sitting here amongst all these A-list actress makes me so so proud as a Malaysian, being a Malaysian Chinese seeing someone represent us in Hollywood... we really needed this triumph especially how Malaysia has been in the news for the past few years (with corruption, plane crash etc).... We are proud of u Michelle!! Thank you!
none of em are a-list actors except michelle williams, jennifer lawrence and michelle yeoh herself
@@wattfadad688 I wouldn’t say Michelle Williams and Jennifer Lawrence are all that A-lost either. But I’d take Williams over Lawrence any day
I could be biased but I think the other actresses should be honoured by Michelle Yeoh's presence.

@@henryng149 Plenty of people have won an Oscar and aren't a-list. Lawrence isn't real at all. She is full of herself. She comes off as a narcissist ulimately.
Michelle Yeoh adds an important voice to this table. Her maturity and experience lends itself to this group of women. Some of them experience life a lot easier than those outside of their realm.
Great discussion. Katherine Heigl has raised some of these issues up before in regards to working hours and was canceled and mocked. Let’s not forget about her bravery.
That's not why she was cancelled and mocked.
@@Largentina. yes, it was. What else did you think it was?
@@suzannefarrington4143 She was cancelled for being incredibly rude and difficult to work with on set. And in 2013 I had an encounter with her as well. She came into the Market Street Oyster Bar in Salt Lake City, Utah and she ended up getting into an argument with the owner and the GM because they wouldn't allow her to vape in the restaurant. She expected to get different treatment, even if it was a literally law being broken, than regular people just because of her being a celebrity. So I tend to believe people when they say was difficult to work with and was often rude to people for absolutely no reason. Sometimes actors can be difficult to work with but if they're talented enough and release great movies and shows, then people seem to put up with it. Katherine is obviously not talented enough for people to put up with her attitude and the way she talks down to people, or clearly she'd still be here.
thank youuuu
@@suzannefarrington4143 She insulted the writing staff of Grey's and willingly took back her Emmy nomination because of it. I don't think she's a bad actress but damn, talk about the hand that feeds you.

@Enoonmai it's just hard to tell in a youtube comment y'know.
@@russellcrossley8724 She clarified after the fact that she misspoke. But of course the internet loves to ignore that and put strong women under a microscope.
michelle williams has always been poetic in interviews. i remember a print interview from like 15 years ago where she said “i want to be like water, slip through fingers but hold up a ship.” never forgot it. admittedly i do not understand what she means by “we all love to run but they make us wear colors”
I was confused by that too. I ended up interpreting it as "we all love to run, but they make us wear medals of different colors" (gold, silver, bronze) to indicate who is the "best." They were talking about the silliness of awards at that part of the interview. And I think Michelle was trying to say how awards are given to indicate the "best" movie/performance/etc when really it shouldn't matter because everyone involved just loves making movies.
@@dianetran6503oh!!!! that's totally it, and that's so beautiful, thank you for decoding :)
Yeah that’s how I understood it, like school colors or race horses where a different color to show who wins 1,2,3rd placed when really we just love to run and that the act is what’s important not the outcome. I don’t remember who wins what Oscar for which movie but I do remember the movies that moved me to tears or made me smile
@@dianetran6503 it was meant to signify that you have to start for "a team", "a country" and so on...because it was about gender identity at that point and if the categories should change.
She’s probably just poetic. We only see her in interviews.
I clicked for Michelle Yeoh but realizing Claire Foy and Emma Corrin are in the same room kinda blew my mind
If they'd invited Carey Mulligan and Cate Blanchett my mind would've exploded
Speaking of Claire and Emma, you’d never imagine young Queen Elizabeth and young Lady Diana reunited here hehe #TheCrown references
@@kareninacarado that's exactly why my mind exploded lol
It was great hearing from everyone, but I especially loved hearing from Danielle Deadwyler and Michelle Yeoh. Really happy that both of them are getting their flowers, as I've been a huge fan of theirs for some time now. 👏👏👏
I feel like Michelle was invited the table long after she should have been - she ran this table. She ran it because she has so much knowledge about her craft and the world. It's such an a-ha! moment, where such talented voices exist, and have existed for so long - but we only invite a certain demographic to this table. Thankful for EEAAO, that Michelle is having her moment in the Sun, and she is using it. She handles all of this with grace.
@Name Agreed. Michelle should be at a table with a ate Blanchett, Jessica Lange, Angela Bassett. She is a wise woman not an ingenue.
@Name she literally was the first female lead in an action franchise by a major production company. She didn’t say first in action movies ever. And all of them agreed with her. Sooooo?
@Name I understand the situation from both sides. Michelle’s struggle and Jennifer’s struggle are too completely different situations though. I think that people like to get carried away when interpreting what these people say to put them in a bad light. These women came together for this interview and had nothing but complete respect for each other. So why shouldn’t we do the same?
I think it’s been awhile since we haven’t invited a multitude of voices to the table. Stop living in the past. We have the world you want. We are all invited to the table. The only group that gets excluded is the poor. Honestly really tired of this liberal bourgeois attitude towards social justice. A comment like this on a video of mega privileged mega wealthy people demonstrates what is wrong with the world honestly. We think about people based on gender and race now.
I really hope that Michelle Yeoh wins the Best Actress Oscar!!
Jennifer talking about Reality TV and diagnosing people on there is so real 😭 the way everyone said 51:24 “Oooh!” Then Jen said “Borderline!” Is so funny
I love Michelle Williams, Michelle Yeoh, Claire Foy, and Emma Corrin. They are such phenomenal actresses. Danielle and Jennifer, too...this is one of the best line ups of the series I've seen. So much talent and beauty. Quite an interesting group of ladies.
Emma Corin is not a woman
@@SuperiFox Then why is she on actress roundtable?
yeah, so cool to listen to clueless actresses insert their 'identity badge' into the conversation now and again.
@@shadysorkin9214 Emma being there is important to bring nuance into the conversation of representation. They show us viewers the fluidity of gender and how that affect our views on acting
@@gabo_n Then why not join the actors round table why the actress one?
I also like how the interviewer helped steer the conversation. Michelle Yeoh made a point about feeling put in a box because of her age and her race. She was being passionate and also showing her upset with this in a very respectful and poised way. The interviewer then opened the conversation to others, saying how she is sure some of you others have also probably felt that you were put in a box in some way as well. I liked how the interviewer phrased that
Claire Foy is me when Michelle Yeoh said they did EEAAO in 37 days. Completely unbelievable!
Michelle Yeoh is an absolute treasure. What a Queen 👑
I adore this series. Please NEVER stop creating these.
I still think that Cate Blanchett's performance in TÁR is the best this year and among the best of the decade. However, Michelle Yeoh's performance is really ONCE IN A LIFETIME. The race between Cate Blanchett and Michelle Yeoh to Oscar Best Actress will be among the toughest and greatest in the history of this award. If the Oscar does not honor both two actresses (like it did once in 1968 with Katharine Hepburn and Barbara Streisand), then I wish Oscar will give the golden statute to Michelle Yeoh, marking the first time an Asian actor/actress winning Best Actor/Actress title. We have white, black winners and now we have a yellow winner of this top category.
Agree but Yeoh could not have these great characters again but Cate will. Just saying, the race imbalanced still there. So, Yeoh all the way!
I hope she wins too.
Michelle Yeoh deserves it because she earned it, not to tick a box or break a record.
Blanchett is my favorite actress, and yet she didn’t surprise me in Tár. If anything, her best performance to me is between Blue Jasmine and Carol in recent years. This is Yeoh’s year. Versatility personified.
I loved all of their performances but, in my opinion, Danielle Deadwyler's in Till is the strongest one and deserves an award.
Thank you Jennifer for sharing a little of your story about miscarriage and needing a D&C. Its not something many people even know exist because its rarely ever mentioned. My wife through the same thing a few years ago and we cannot imagine her not being able to have a procedure that was already such an awful thing to go through because we wanted that baby but also could have threatened her life and taken away our living children's mom.
Sorry for your loss but it’s a huge misconception that a D&C procedure post miscarriage is the same thing as elective abortion. There is currently no state law which bans treatment for miscarriage. And Catholic hospitals which do not perform abortion procedures perform treatment for ectopic pregnancies & D&C post miscarriage. Stopping a beating heart of a growing baby is NOT healthcare.
@@vanessajanik4623it's because an extraction after a miscarriage is abortion in a medical sense. The technicalities aren't often understood and are misconstrued.
Vanessa, I truly do not care about your opinions on this matter. I came here to say how heartless of a reply this was to a man sharing his wife's story about a traumatic loss that impacted both of them and their family. How cruel and unfeeling to say "Sorry for your loss, but--" just to spew your uneducated, inexperienced vitriol. Sad, disappointing, and grossly lacking empathy.@@vanessajanik4623
@@vanessajanik4623 actually, laws banning and criminalizing abortion are also affecting women who had miscarriages.

This was an incredible conversation, thank you. I've never seen an actor roundtable, panel etc. that had this kind of depth, where everyone is holding space for one another.

I LOVE it that when Michelle starts talking, the other actresses are so intently listening to her cause she is the GOAT. This woman is ROYALTY 👸 Every actress should take notes
I first saw Michelle Yeoh in Memoirs of a Geisha and I was so drawn to her character. Since then I've seen her other characters and she is just amazing in each and every single one. She really draws you into the film and story.
I love the convo about their hours and they also need to mention the crew more. We’re there before the actors and after the actors leave. Everyone else is appreciative when the day is cut shorter than 12 hours because an actor says no. Been on so many 90 hr work weeks, and 7 days a week with all over nights and we have less of a life than actors do. It’s exhausting. I’m navigating getting out of the business because it lost its magic for me. Still love art and films but I’ve missed so much of life because of it.
I have often wondered about the work hours a crew puts in when preparing for a film.
Come to think of it.
Film Crews would make for a great round table conversation, because you guys see and do it all.
"The Unsung Heroes of film" 👍
That is so true!!!! I missed really simple things like reading books or even watching a 2 hr film and was so grateful if I got to have an 8 hr sleep
@@vivekkarajasegaran2664 exactly and I've seen so many people have hardships in relationships because they're never home. They can't go to kids activities. I just wanna live my life. If I hadn't have stepped out of the business I wouldn't have met my boyfriend. I was so focused on work and had no time for anything else. I personally never wanted to date within the business either but guys outside of the business couldn't handle my schedule. It's a very tough balance. They really should do a table of some of the "lower" staff. Everyone thinks working in movies is glamorous. It's not for the crew depending on the actors. I've worked with great atmostpheric actors who love to talk with the crew and hang out and some that couldn't even look in the direction of someone making $15 an hour.
Claire's comment about Sarah Polley prioritising the experience of making the film makes so much sense. Like Branson talking about looking after employees who will in turn look after the customers - if employees and actors are happy then the outcome will be better!
I love Claire Foy. I met her at a deadline event and I love ‘breathe’ and I brought it with me for her to sign and she was basically like ‘I haven’t seen that in forever’. 😂

I always love watching these formats as I feel they are a lot more genuine then general interviews
agree! so often, though, the interviewer is not as skilled or knowledgeable as this one. I've heard many ridiculous, shallow questions in other round tables. Rebecca Keegan does a great job imo.
