      Such DLC will be far too limiting in these times, since I won't expect it to be bigger and better a la Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer. No, a fully voiced and well done fanmod of X-Wing Alliance Upgrade would suffice instead, just like how FreeSpace 2 got the FS1 Port and Silent Threat: Reborn remakes.

    Really wonder why they didn’t use these more. Just a few Buzz Missiles fired at a capital ship would be able to slowly chew into it, shutting off life support, causing shortages, and gradually moving further and further towards the core of the ship. The capital ship would literally have to send out personnel armed with weapons and vacume suits to get rid of them all…and good luck doing that in the middle of a battle!

Even if such damage control teams are able to contain 90% of the buzz droids sent their way, the remaining 10% that fall through the cracks are more than enough to continue wrecking whatever complicated delicate systems are on their way, before the damage control teams could clean them all out in time.

    • @quox3987
      @quox3987 Год назад +1

      My best guess would be the sheer scale of the target. It takes multiple to effect the quite frankly minuscule ETA-2 Actis fighters, just how long and how many would it take for them to do anything meaningful to a Acclamator or Venator? There’s also the question of how long they could operate for because when you look at the body these things there is no such thing as wasted space and with so many different limbs, sensors, and in some cases dual blasters, they’d need to use a considerable amount of energy on something that likely doesn’t have a charging station for them.
      After that it becomes an issue of what could they reasonably damage, could they breach the hull like on fighters or would they need another way into the ship? Once they do get inside what stops the crew from just sealing that room and venting it back out to space? In the Clone Wars episode with D-squad and the stolen Venator an open airlock sucks out a whole swarm of Buzz droids.

    • @FalconWindblader
      @FalconWindblader Год назад +1

      @@quox3987 A ship, even one built & meant to operate in space, ain't gonna be all covered in armor plating without an inch to exploit, moreso when shielding being so damn common. There's bound to be at least gaps that most organics can't reach to be exploited by something so small. Operation time needn't be taken into account, as SW battery tech is far more advanced than our own in the real world, which one can easily tell seeing even the likes of b1s being able to run for days doing combat without needing recharging. Buzz droids, despite their size & compactness, i'd say can run for at least a full day without running outta power.
      Finally, when the buzz droids manage to worm their way into said big ships, there'd be loads of spaces, UNARMORED spaces, for them to do whatever they please, that organics can't easily get access to. Imagine the likes of roaches getting under couches & behind closets. A great deal more of such spaces in ships than regular houses & apartment units. Measures like sealing off rooms would be limited at best, & totally useless at worst, given how easily such small droids can just tunnel their way out in those out-of-reach spaces, where delicate parts of critical systems can definitely be found, which they can make a mess of.

    As a kid doing Star Wars fan fiction in the 1990’s I had come up with something similar, it was a fighter-sized droid in the shape of a virus that would cut a hole in the hull of a Capital ship and inject the ship with a bunch of small spider-like droids that were essentially walking bombs. The walking bomb droids would find critical system and detonate. Another twist of that (which would complete the virus analogy a lot better) would be small droids that could hijack control of the ship.

    I thinks there are two reasons why we don’t see Buzz droids continuing on in latter battles, aside from the obvious cancellation of production on these droids:
    1. Since the Clone Wars, starfighter weaponry was becoming more powerful, like the twin ion laser cannons of the tie fighter or the s-foil guns of an X-wing. With the higher damage output of these ship weapons, firing a discord missile at an enemy isn’t just cruel given that the droid would eat at the enemy ship, but it’s a lot slower to bring a starship down than just blasting them with a proton torpedo.
    2. The usage of Buzz droids and their discord missles arises because droid starfighters like vulture droids (not so much tri-fighters) and limited in intelligence, alongside their armor and intergraded laser cannon systems showing age when countering newer republic craft. So in order to stay relevant, the buzz droids changed the vulture droids, by keeping their advantages in speed and numbers, while adding a chaotic element that can scare organic pilots, at least in close combat situations.

Given how potentially dangerous these things could be perhaps it’s best that we don’t have something like these in our world, undoubtedly they might have to be banned for use in war or at least heavily restricted to military targets only.

    • @marrqi7wini54
      @marrqi7wini54 Год назад

      For every weapon that exists, there are ways to counter them.
      One method is active protective systems for tanks that can defeat the missile carrying it before it hits. Or even a new kind of ERA that can repel such attacks if they manage to get on the tank. Having metal harder than the droid's cutting tools wouldn't hurt either.
      For aircraft a good method is advancing your standard anti-missile techniques like chaff, flares, and if possible stealth that can defeat the missile delivery system. Not to mention anti-missile missiles. Along with the possibility of laser point defense.
      Though if all else fails, just have some of your own to protect equipment from other buzz droids.
