- Join Mike Joy as he visits Joey Gray at Joe’s Second Generation Camaros to see what goes into building some of the nicest #camaro is the country. Joey builds immaculate second gen Camaros for both daily driving and for competition at the Camaro Nationals.
Thanks for joining us on this episode of garage talk on Joy Riding! - Авто/Мото
That was way to cool, I have restored 3 68 Camaros myself and did everything farmed out nothing, Boy that was a nightmare. But man did I have fun. One can spend 20,000 to 60,000 depends on the amount of work that is in need, but the last day is the coolest when that car gets reunited to the owner and the smile and tears worth every dollar spent on that Camaro.
In 1985 I owned a 1970 Z28 with the split bumper... I wish I still owned it!😊
Listening to these gentlemen brought back found memories of cruising the winding roads of sunny Southern California without a care in the world!❤️☀️❤
My 2 adult kids are named Mike and Joy. When they were little in the 90s and we watched Nascar, I used to tell them they were named after you, Mike Joy. 😊
Nice interview Mike, Joey does beautiful and accurate restorations on the second generation Camaro's. You can see that he takes a lot of pride in the job that he does.
Would love to hear some obscure racing stories from over the years shared on this channel. I’m sure you have absolutely incredible racing stories. A video going over say the crazy under appreciated events you remember from all your time with the sport would be a treat for many. Long form analysis content is getting very popular recently and I’m sure many many fans would love to hear some of your stories.
Thanks Mike! Your knowledge on the classics is simply unmatched. Love the 2nd gen Camaros.
The 70-73 is the best. Had the privilege of driving a '70 Z28 when I was a Senior at FSU. My buddy's family had money and he got one of the first Z28s in Florida from Slaton Chevrolet in Pompano beach. Car was Shadow Grey, black stripes, black vinyl top 4SP and 3.73 gears
Cool video, MJ !!!
Gotta love those 70-73 Camaros!
An NCO friend of mine in Germany had a 1970 back in the seventies it was fun fun fun on the autobahn!
Really cool shop!
The Camaro Z28"s lives on from People like this ..These are very important people in my eyes .
This interview brought a smile to my face. I purchased an exhaust system from Joey and he was a joy to speak with. One day I hope to stop by his shop with my 71 (full bumper) Camaro.
Mike, as a lifelong lover of cars, nascar and you as a broadcaster, this channel you have started is a fantastic look into the classic car world. I absolutely love it! keep up the great work.
Wow, thanks!
Mike, I am working with Joey Gray right now to purchase his 1972 Z28 that he built for himself, what a great guy he is, I stopped by his shop with my wife recently on our way back from a Fl trip could not have been more impressed both with the shop and him as a person looking forward to getting the blue 72 that he has completed
Great video.
Damn, I like that..brought me back too
Wow, what a great Video! Well done Mike, Joey and Bart!
Mike, you are doing great, they keep getting better, keep them coming ❗️🇺🇸
Thanks 👍
Thanks so very much for the videos I really appreciate and enjoy them been listening to you for a long time on other things you never disappoint GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY much respect ✌🏻from Ga.
Great interview Mike, I really enjoyed it. Joey and his crew does some amazing work.
Mike, I have a 73 z28 rs 4 speed car restored .
My dad was a racer all his life first scca road racer than stockcars.
so I grew up with these cars. I loved both forms of racing but so many of these cars and others
are no more because of stockcar racing .But that`s just the way it was back then.
Blessed to have mine. Split bumper Mike
Thanks Mike, very cool interview and access to a shop as well as 2 guys that know there stuff!! 😎 😎
Someday, I'd like to be successful enough to relate to anyone in that room.
It's great to hear from restorers of these beauties. Thank you Mike.
Note that the rad for the 70 Z28 is a 2 core. In 1981 when I bought my 70 Z28 I knew a guy in GM Parts office and we both went to the parts bin where the rad was. I didn’t believe it was a 2 core in a Z28. I opened up the box and yup, it was a 2 core. If I knew how hard these are to find I would have bought 10 rads. Back then I had a 4 core built with my original tanks.
Making a Camaro an "RS" is probably the most common altercation done to these old F cars. I love the lines & shape of these cars regardless which nose it has.
Aaah yes … Memories!
Wow, glad I found your channel Mike. Didn't know what you were up to these days, always enjoyed your nascar broadcasting and Barrett Jackson deal. Great to see you out there in the historic trans-am series too. Best of luck and health in the new year!
Thanks you too!
@@Joy-RidingMile I'm not up to date. Am I going to enjoy your coverage of any national venues this coming season?
My favorite Camaro is definitely the 1970/71/72/💪🔥💥😎🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Love it! Mike i had standard bumper on my 71 Z 28. But did a resto mod and ended up doing a split bumper on it. Mike keep up the Great work! Love your videos! Especially on 2nd gen Camaros! And your car is Nice!!
Doing the work of the Lord! I really like the color of this car featured. If he could only do everything in house but he's got a system. I dig the 71-73's esp 4 speed.
What a well done video!! Excellent workmanship and passion for the cars. For me I have evolved from a standard 70 nose to the RS nose as far as preference. Both are very cool. I am down to just one 70 car now, had a standard bumper and RS, both basket cases. Ended up taking the RS nose off the one car and sold it as a standard car. In progress on a LS build RS, LS7 wet sump with a six speed. Making a fast driver.
So good to see you sitting and talking Steve! Stay strong and I'll be thinking about you. 😎👍
Steve isn’t in this video, but he posted an update on his channel. We are wishing him a speedy recovery!
Mike I’m from Massachusetts and have a 68 Camaro. Love the car. Been listening to you for years and I myself have been involved in professional endurance sports car racing
Great Job as always Mike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tks Mike, an tks for Joey an his crew for remaking those memories come back again, an I luv both fronts, lol just sayin.😅😅
Mike SO glad to get a new episode from you. Totally fascinating listening to a man that loves his work, and has his knowledge!
I wish you and yours a very "Merry Christmas", and a "Happy New Year"!!!
P.S. Stock bumpers only!
I close my eyes and listen to Joe talk. I would swear it is Mr H. speaking (Rick Hendrick). The Carolina accent is so distinctive.
I had a 1972 Rally Sport, unfortunately living in Connecticut, it had a terminal case of rust that i wasn't able to fix, had to sell it for $900 dollars. I really enjoyed your interview with this gentleman, he really is a craftsman with Camaro's. you could tell he wasn't used to be on camera, but you framed your questions so he could easily explain in great detail what he does.
That was a cool video thanks for doing that. I have a 70 with standard front that is being restored.
Great channel Mike, subscribed immediately. If I have the ability to hear you talk about racing, or classic cars, I'm listening. You're truly an ambassador of the sport and hobby. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks!
I'm with you Mike, full bumpers all the way
Listening to Joy here sounds almost like an build up to a Nascar race.
You just wait for the race to start after ;)
GREAT series of videos Mike!
Big fan of all of your work (going back to ‘79 Daytona 500 😳)
Happy Holidays!!!
Awesome video. Met Joey many years ago at Charlotte Motor Speedway, bought a few parts from him, talked a bit and learned a bunch!
Always learning something every time we are over there!
Bart is a cool cat
Owner of a insurance collision repair shop could build /restore any car decided on a 72 Camaro funny thing high school car was a true 71 z28
Full bumper for me.
FYI Split bumper cars did not get sold in Canada .
I am Rally Sport too.
That 70 is a beauty, I hope they take it all the way to 1500 and win it this year.
Fingers crossed!
Paint shop money is made on insurance jobs where they can flip a car through quickly. Restoration work requires more labor for prep and usually takes a back seat to insurance.
Question for you. I am in the process of restoring a 1970 Z28 and I am not able to locate the correct color fuel and brake line clips. Do you know where I might be able to locate these, or do you just paint yours to the correct color?
I have a '70 Z/28 4spd car that I've owned since 1986. Currently, in long term restoration. Question: Are these 2nd gens going up in value ? Seems like a resurgence.
Rally Sport for me
My silver '73 Camaro 350/700R4 has the shifter on the column..do you think that adds to the value as a #'s matching stock car I think it's an LT. ( I have the orig. th350 also)
My favorite model year is 1970!To me, It's that time table thats really the main issue. I mean...2 years?
Folks, I need a set of those roller wheel stands! Any idea where they can be found? Thanks much.
Is there a longer door than a 2nd gen F body?
Did he say how much for complete restoration driver and show price?
Keep up the good work Mike. Have you ever thought about a career in media????
Look at any racecar from back then and they were standard Bumper cars.
Correct
Mike please do a story on the Second Gen. Camaros and the Trans Am series I have a 70 that I would love to campaign in a Vintage race series.
We race two second gen Camaros that competed in the Trans Am Series. Lookup Historic Trans Am to get more details. If you want to race your 70, I would recommend looking into Vintage Racer Group (VRG). We will do a video on the Trans Am Series, hang tight! Thanks @@davidmolaison2933
I have 70 rs z28 needs assemble would you willing to make happen
Hey Mike,
How can i get you on my podcast for an interview?
Wonder how much it costs
I had a 72 Z/28 with split bumper 4 speed black with white stripes and interior ..paint code was - -
