    Goodman is almost in tears toward the end - I feel he's remembering the first recording, done with a very young Peggy Lee a few weeks after Pearl Harbor was bombed and the U.S. entered the war.

    so wonderful, so spare, so heartfelt, and so very, very glamorous as you sang the perfect song for this occasion. one of the highlights of your singing career. it proved Benny Goodman was right to have the faith he had in you.

    They should have given Peggy s standing ovation. So under appreciated. Their is great emotional power in restraint.

      Yes - restraint in music creates a space of partial silence that pulls you in - to an interior space. It's a lost value in modern performance, especially in singers.

      @@tomkelly4336 they all died too soon, along with Elvis. they were definitely on the list. i know. interviewed Peggy and Sarah. separately, of course, and both sublime singers.

    NOW, THIS IS REALLY GREAT MUSIC. LIONEL REALLY SWINGS WHEN HE PLAYS THOSE VIBES. ONE OF THE GREATEST PRESIDENTS OF AMERICA IS IN THE AUDIENCE WITH HIS BEAUTIFUL FIRST LADY. I LOVED THIS TIME IN AMERICA! GREAT MUSIC, GREAT PRESIDENT AND MY LIFE WAS FULL OF HAPPINESS JUST KNOWING ALL WAS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD. AND, AS ALWAYS, GOD WAS ON HIS THRONE! SYLVIA!

    Peggy Lee was so seductive when she sang. Her clothes fit her perfectly and no one had her color hair. You just couldn't take your eyes off of her. She had a most unusual voice. I always loved her. SYLVIA!
