Well, healthcare is very affordable in Korea. You can visit specialist for under $10 most of the times. And basic education is already free, even the school lunches are free for every students here.
Raising a child in South Korea is more expensive than in other developed countries because, the average South Korean desires a standard of living that is far more expensive than what people in other countries desire. Most children in the USA do not require private academies and tutors in order to do well in school. However in South Korea education is so much more competitive. Parents have to provide their children with private education in addition to what is provided by the public school system. Children who's parents can't afford to provide them with these social norms are often bullied at school for being poor. I think if there were less societal pressure toward materialism, more people would be willing to have children.

@Big617E Well, I say women here, but it could be men. It's just on the whole, women look after the children and the household in a family as well as working a job. More often than not, women in a family take the role of carer for elderly family members, too. Now, we have a declining population in the UK and in many Western nations around the world. If women (or men who take on these traditional female roles) were paid for their work, then more children would be born, thus improving birthrates.
@@Brellowcroptaking care of your home and your family is not “ unpaid work” this is the most retarded thing I’ve ever heard. It’s called a life, you are not supposed to get paid for keeping your dwelling clean and your offspring well kept.
Women (and men) can be legally discriminated against at work for having children, taking parental leave, or being married. Since most women will struggle to work with their kids, it means men have to work twice as hard to afford housing and provide for 3 other people after marriage. Of course, this takes years to earn enough. So, it draws out their time window for having children. Women, on the other hand, are deciding that their job will pay them and sustain them, a baby won’t. So, they choose the job for survival. 🤷♀️
@@fangirl7914 Yep. Especially in Japan where some “salary men” literally live at work. They have hotels attached to the companies, so their workers have no excuse to not work. It’s insane. They only visit their wives and children on the weekends or holidays. You’d basically just be a single parent.
@LoneWulf278 In Korea, I've definitely heard the case of men 'going to work' at the office on the weekends when reality is they're just hanging out with the bros, watching games and ordering food. They don't want to be home put to task by their wives. I also know of several couples where the wife and kids live overseas or in a different city and dad just comes to visit occasionally, too. What a breeding ground for resentment, eh? Good on younger people choosing themselves when they know they can't functionally afford kids. It may be sad, but for the best In the long run. Population stuff will sort itself out. It always does.
It's not lack of money. Every developed country has lowering birth rates. Europe keep throwing money at the problem, yet still can't reverse falling rates. No couple has ever said "housing prices are dropping, now is a good time to have children." South korea is especially vulnerable to lower fertility rate because it doesn't have as much immigration, single motherhood is not normalized, education is hyper competitive and there is huge pressure on children to perform. We can't have an honest discussion about the real reason why all developed country has Lower birth rate but here goes... Women do not marry because they have to but only if they want to. Whereas in old generations, women needed to get married to survive (and hook up culture was not normal due to lack of birth control). There is not enough desirable men for every woman to want to marry.
Exactly. It’s a tough pill to swallow because nobody likes to frame their society’s history as… let’s say exploitative. But it’s the basic truth. If you don’t HAVE to do something, you simply won’t do it.
Not Israel though. Israel manages to be exceptional in that it has high birth rates while still being a developed country that maintains women's rights and freedoms.
@@sunnysunshine8897Israel is a genocidal settler-colony that has an ultra-Orthodox segment who has a high birthrate and no military service requirements, while male conscripts rape female colleagues and Palestinian prisioners. Then maybe men need to work on themselves to become more desirable. What your dogwhistle-implying is that you think women should resume undue burdens and risks otherwise; not really a society worth saving.
Excellent comment. I agree with you 90%. But take it from me. I raised two children into adulthood as a single parent. And I’ll tell you it was the hardest 25 years of my life. When you are raising children and you want to do it better. Then what your parents did it with you. You have to sacrifice some much of yourself. You have no more freedom, privacy, identity and self care. People expect you to financially support your kids and if you ask for help . They literally tell you “ what you can’t afford to provide for your kids” “ You shouldn’t have open your legs and got pregnant in the first place”. And that is very embarrassing. A lot of times the fathers do not want to pay their child support. So it’s all up to the mother to provide for herself and the kids. This is very difficult and hard it do. So hard that I had to teach my kids to eat by rations of food and not to throw out any food. And a country paying a woman to become a mother. That will never had. No one is going to pay women to get pregnant , stay home and raise their own kids. Do you know how many women would do that . If they get paid? A lot bc it will be to easy. Do you know how many women will get pregnant? And the will get creat a mother problem. Just like in USA. There was families of 5 or 6 kids on food stamps and medical insurance. None of the parents working. I don’t think that is going to work . That used government taxes dollars. But I understood your point of view. You are very smart. If women want to have a career there is nothing wrong with that, they just have to make it easier for women to be able to have a career and kids like they do for men. If they do it for men why not do it for women also. Both men and women should have access to a balance between work and kids if they want it but many people choose to only give that to men and shame women who want to work. So in your world, every time a woman wanted a raise all she has to do is get pregnant and have another baby
What a laughable scenario 😂
@Big617E Well, I say women here, but it could be men. It's just on the whole, women look after the children and the household in a family as well as working a job. More often than not, women in a family take the role of carer for elderly family members, too. Now, we have a declining population in the UK and in many Western nations around the world. If women (or men who take on these traditional female roles) were paid for their work, then more children would be born, thus improving birthrates.

Yup, and many of these women are essentially married single mothers.

It's great for employers 😊
But you need to remember back then there was not 50 million koreans

I FUCKING LOVE IT👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
The toxic environment in the country is the main reason why. Who wants to raise somebody in this kind of situation?

Try 24 months fully paid family leave per person per lifetime (so fathers, too) and universal childcare/schooling from age 1 through university. Oh, and a year of formula and four years of diapers/training pants. Also various forms of therapy if needed, as well as healthcare in general, at least to age 21. THEN. maybe, people will choose to have 3-4 kids sometimes! 🤷♀️
They (as well as all countries) shpuld work on the economy so we can afford to have children. It's impossible herein the US too.
Does anyone exactly what will happen at the end of the century?
Decline of humanity, but it is gonna start around 2050, cause climate and petroleum will be gone by 2050.
If the population keeps on declining then that specific race will go extinct at some point.

You're a twin you have no opinion
Because they are focusing on their beauty , not raising children
As they should. Women need to take their powers. It's women who decide who is born or not. Not men. It was never men and will never be them. It's us women who decide. And if we say no babies. It's no babies.
@@Misu.A most women who are childless are not childless by choice...do you know that?

700 pounds is nothing!
Government: have more babies and you're going to struggle anyways but here is 700 pounds as a nice gesture. 😂😂😂
Why? try Feminism that fills women with the idea that career is more important than children.
Sadly, alot of men are completely useless, can't adequately provide, so now alot of women ( not all) are forced into job market / pursue career .
Not being funny but now a days it takes two wage packages to live
@@teetstothebeat245 Basic economics; double the workforce, half the wages.
It is not feminism and you could say the same about men, “men put more of an importance on career then raising their children”.
@@roykliffen9674you need to stop dumping that feminism is the issue thing. that's not what we do here in Asia.

Yea, I think they can adopt kids from other countries if they're so serious about this.
@@jypapiiiii Declining birth rates are happening globally. Immigrants also adapt to the average birth rate in around 2-3 generations. It's a temporary solution.

Nah… Men are the factor. Google the 4B Movement. There’s your answer.
Well a low birthrate, at least initially, can make the country more economically prosperous. But long term, low birthrates will obviously lead to societal collapse. This happens in the third world where birthrates are typically high but poverty is also high.
Being pregnant doesn’t fit the beauty standards of Korea
Pregnancy and childbearing come with sacrifice on the woman’s part that is not even appreciated or rewarded. Even some of your grandmas didn’t want kids but they didn’t have a choice. But luckily in this day and age women DO have a choice. And the numbers show they don’t want to go through the suffering when no support is offered by their partners or government.
But I mean, you can take charge and get pregnant on women’s behalf. Or stfu
I think it would have made more of difference if they said at least £700 a month 😂 just a one time 700 pounds is a shame when you raising a human for 18+ years.
Weak societies fall and strong societies survive. This is nothing new. The country will fall and a better one will take its place.
