I was reading that John McTiernan fought for Carl Weathers to be in this film, against studio demands. McTiernan saw how Arnold watched and admired Carl. As both men came from athletic backgrounds, a nervous Schwarznegger (who hadn't really found his footing as an actor) found a role model in the remarkable Carl Weathers. RIP to another legend.

The actor who played the Predator was Kevin Peter Hall. He also had a cameo at the end as the black chopper pilot (the director wanted to give him a little face time for all his efforts). Kevin Peter Hall was over 7 feet tall and frequently played various creatures due to his unusual height. He was Harry in Harry And The Hendersons. A movie about a family that befriends Bigfoot and brings him home. You would probably really enjoy that movie. Kevin peter Hall was a super nice guy in real life. A RUclips channel named Corridor recently tested the theory that mud does _not_ mask the thermal signature of a person. They used cheap thermal imagers to really expensive ones.
Spoiler alert: their theory was proven wrong with all thermal imagers they used. A person covered in mud was undetectable while attempting to locate them with the imagers exactly how this film depicted. The only person who was able to locate the test subject was the dog they had with them.

He was a nearly 7 foot tall, African American actor, who also had a cameo as the helicopter pilot in the rescue chopper that rescues Dutch at the end of the film. Cassie, if you read this comment, let me fill in some blanks for you.
The Predator is/was an alien whose race comes to Earth on a "safari" every so often. The original writer said that he envisioned The Predator as an accountant on a tourist hunting trip.
The Predator's laugh was actually a recording he made of Billy's laugh when Pancho told him that lame joke. The Predator was standing directly above them observing the firefight at the hostage "rescue". Remember that he picked up and looked at the scorpion that Mac stabbed and killed on Dillon's back.
Billy died a true warrior, and The Predator showed him his brand of respect by cleaning and keeping hs skull as a trophy.
Finally, yes, Dillon was Carl Weathers, who also played Apollo Creed. The guy with the big spinning gun was Jesse "The Body" Ventura, who was a professional wrestler, and later the governor of Minnesota. Billy was played by Sonny Landham, who ran for, and very narrowly lost, the governorship of Kentucky. Arnold was, of course, the governor of California, so there were two governors and one almost-governor in this film.

“He’s killing them so easy ….” It only seemed easy because the Predator was smart. He studied them before he acted. He waited until they were separated and took out the biggest and most heavily-armed soldier first, which was Blaine. After that, he carefully took the rest out individually, when he had the right opportunity. If he had taken on the squad as a group, they probably would have killed the Predator first.

  • @waterbeauty85
    @waterbeauty85 2 года назад +77

Dutch was orginally supposed to win the hand to hand fight with the Predator because that's what people expect Arnold Schwarzenegger to do, but it was Arnold himself who said "I can't beat him. He's a monster. I'm just a man," and so it was rewritten with Dutch having to rely his expertise in unconventional warfare to survive. I think that alteration elevated the movie, and it made a stark contrast with the fragile overblown ego contemporary action star Steven Seagal who wouldn't even allow any of the jokes to be at his expense when he hosted Saturday Night Live. Speaking of which, I've never seen any YT reactor react to a Steven Seagal movie. As obnoxious as he was he was big deal in the martial arts action genre back in the day. Even more of an oversight, I've never seen anyone react to a Chuck Norris movie or a Jet Li movie. 23:45 Reaction reminded me of my little sister doing her tough girl act, which I always thought was adorable.
This was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. My friends and I had it on VHS and we watched it over and over and had the lines memorized. We would go out in the woods and pretend we were Dutch and his team. I was fascinated by all the different guns and equipment that each of them had, their different cool guy personalities. This movie contributed significantly to my conceptualization of special operations as being cool and alongside Full Metal Jacket, one of the bigger media influences that would lead to my commissioning as an officer when I graduated college.
Loved watching your reactions and thanks for the memories.

I have watched your prevouis watch along to this movie, I love this movie, the evil laugh is billys laugh, the predator can learn voice tones, he uses it alot in the film, also the pilot at the end is the same actor who is playing the predator, Kevin peter hall.. The Mud covers the body heat, thats how it sees, like some reptiles like pit viper snakes for example..
he also plays the predator in predator 2, which you should watch cassie!

The Predator movies take place in the times they were made, except Predator 2 and Prey. The Alien movies take place in the future in the 2120’s. But the they are in the same universe.

I totally loved your review! Really enjoyed your reactions watching the movie and your review comments! You totally got it and appreciated much of the same aspects as I did. Predator is one of my favorite movies and unique in the sense that it was maybe the first movie to combine an army jungle war theme with a sci-fi Alien encounter. And the music was awesome. And every character in the movie was memorable. The ultimate macho man squad! Great review! 😎👍

I saw Alien alone in the theaters when it came out and was also the first 'scary' movie I had ever seen. I was 9 and I enjoyed every second of it, so much so that I dragged my mom and grandma to watch it for a second viewing. They did not have the same reaction to it as I did.

Cassie: "It's like home alone ... but more demonic." Unintentional comedy gold. Should have been the tag line on the theatre posters.
Fun fact: For the heat mode view of the Alien they purchased a state of the art (at the time) actual IR camera to do the shots, but they couldn't get any decent footage out of it because their shoot location environments were so warm, so there was very little variation between human body heat and the ambient temperature. The images were just a melded indistinct haze. So they just ended up using much cheaper chemical and costume techniques and got a much better result.
